Some very valid points...Only exception might be the price of a V8 with Premium Plus, unless of course you were referring to the Dealer that Sean visited...

I have 550 New VWs in stock, but not one available V8 with Premium Plus...each one has been sold before it arrived, and they were all built to order...

well put about those 90%/10%. but is it true? you'd put the 'well-informed' figure at 90%? You're trying to be a nice guy ;)
  • markcincinnatimarkcincinnati Member Posts: 5,343
The customer leased the car -- while generally depreciation "gets" you when you lease an old, new car, at an MSRP of $50K for both vehicles and an $8K discount plus "free maintenance" for one -- well there will be no issue, practically speaking, of depreciation since it was built into the lease price and the lease price on the $42K car was substantially less than on the $50K car.

I rode in the BMW today -- it was quite nice and very car like. The engine under some medium acceleration did not sound as nice as my 2.7T V6 Audi and I can tell you that my 4.2V8 had great sounds, as, apparently, does the T-Reg V8.

I currently lease a 2002 Jetta. The lease ends in May of 2005. Do you anticipate that VW will offer a smiliar "Pull Ahead" program next summer as they are running currently. I would be very interested in participating in such a program once I am within a year of my lease expiring. I figured that with the new '05 Passat's and Jetta's being released in the first half of '05, VW will be eager to unload '04's sitting on their lots. I know it's hard to know for sure, but just wanted your feedback.

I would love to get into a new Passat or maybe a 1.8t Jetta, I guess it all depends on prices.

    Thanks for your feedback!!

I believe there is a 3-4000 dealer incentive on the '03 x5 right now. so 3700 under invoice should be doable.

Looking for a little help, I have been reading your posts, and I think I want the 2004 V-8 Touareg with 4 corner suspension, Bi-Xenon head lamps, convenience package and sound system 1. In Southern California that comes to $45,865 retail.

I have been offered $750 over invoice, but what invoice? The one that was shown to me had and extra S.C.V.D.A. for $200 and flooring reserve for $142. That puts the car at $42,632. That is realy $1092 over invoice.

As for the lease, the dealer wants to put some ACQ fee of $575 on the front end with the $45 Doc fee in the Cap cost. This means an additional $18.46 per month in someone elses pocket over three years, and what is ACQ fee. In addition he wants a $750 Security deposit when I have a FICO score of over 800. O-Yes, one more thing, he is adding a $211.96 for Lux Tax Up front? I thought Lux tax was gone by now.

Looking for another dealer in southern California?

Any help on the numbers I have posted and ACQ fee SCVDA or lux tax info would be helpful

    Thank You

said is really true, for me...90/10...I cannot speak for anyone else...

And there is really no way to predict what programs will be available a year from now...All we can do is hope that your logic is correct...
  • vwguildvwguild Member Posts: 1,620
When you are dealing with Invoice pricing, as opposed to discount from MSRP, you have to deal with the Invoice...We all pay FloorPlan Interest Reserve($142) & Port Prep($25), and in major metropolitan areas, such as LA, SF, NY, Chicago, Miami, Dallas, Houston, etc. We all are responsible for these Regional Ad Fees...This is for National TV & Print and not the local ads that you see Dealers run with only their names on them...There are several regions in the US where there are no Regional Ad fees, but you do not live in one...In San Francisco it is $177.00. Additionally, every Manufacturer does this...

So all of those numbers are correct and, with that one exception, apply to every VW for every Dealer Coast to Coast...

The $575.00 is Volkswagen Credit's Acquisition Fee...EVERY bank has one...Chase, Wells, Bank One, Bank of the West...they all have acquisition fees...

Security Deposit for a First Time VCI Lessee is the Monthly Payment, rounded to the next $25.00 increment, but maybe waived by adding .00015 to the Factor...Your Score is reflected in your Factor...Tier 1 and changes with Term.

On the other hand...The $211.96 for Lux Tax has me stumped...

heehee. that's why I was asking vwguild if he was serious or just trying to be nice. though perhaps dealing with internet-savvy people does tilt the percentage in favor of the well-informed.
  • thbarrettthbarrett Member Posts: 19
Thank you for the information, but should not the flooring interest and advertising come off the stores profit because there is about 3% or more on the back end.
  • vwmanjimbvwmanjimb Member Posts: 28
Have you heard of the horsepower in the 8 being 330? I read something somewhere that VW had to rate it at 310 because of Porsche. I put an e-mail into my trainer at VW ((CER) to see if he's heard anything like that. Just wondering if you heard anything like that.
  • vwguildvwguild Member Posts: 1,620
The bottom line is what we pay, and that includes all that we discussed...If you read here about "Holdback" you will learn that including this in any negotiation is not a trump card, unless you are dealing with distress merchandise...which is not what you are looking at...

I have posted here for years, and I do not BS. You are looking to buy the C&D Lux SUV of the Year AND the MOTOR TREND SUV for 2004...You want to dip into Holdback; buy another brand...A Durango maybe...Dealers here in Monterey Co. sold 14 Dodges in October...We do that on a Saturday...
  • vwguildvwguild Member Posts: 1,620
I believe, although do not know for sure in this case, but would bet serious $$$ that the 330HP # is correct...
  • vwguildvwguild Member Posts: 1,620
I only deal with Internet Customers...How were you treated? That is why I do 300 VWs a year, and with a CSI of 98%...:)

Can anybody give me the lowdown on the Nav system. It looks like its a little outdated with CDs, plus I heard that you can't listen to any music while using the system. Any users out there? Also, does anyone know if VW plans to upgrade to a DVD system?
  • thbarrettthbarrett Member Posts: 19
Thank you for all the information. I was not looking to tap someones hold back. I am interested in where all the money is so I, as a consumer can get the best and HONEST deal.

If I was buying the car for cash it would be much easier than a lease.

I feel there are to many ways to pad the monthly payment in the dealers favor when leasing.

I will try and find that elusive straight forward and Honest dealer in southern cal.

    Thanks again

  • vwguildvwguild Member Posts: 1,620
all looked fine to me, save that Lux. Tax...get that out and you should be fine...And you are right about leasing...there are a lot of corners to hide stuff in...

One good thing...The new VCI Lease form has been redesigned and MUCH simpler to read...

    Good luck...

Has anyone been able to successfully program the home link in the T-Reg? I have an older transmitter, so no rolling codes. I figured that this would be easy. Not! I have tried numerous times, and cannot get the system to take. Is there some incredibly long time that you need to get the system to recognize the transmitter? Thanks....
  • fish8fish8 Member Posts: 2,282
I have had the same problems with my Wife's Tahoe. I went to Homelinks site but still no luck. I gave up and am using the transmitter.

    Hello Everyone:

I own a 01 Passat Wagon, GLX W/4 Motion under the owner's choice program. My balloon payment is due in May of 04 and I am either going to keep it and wait for an 05 Passat Wagon or I would purchase a V6 Touareg under the Owner's Choice program. The Owner's Choice program is better for me as an IL resident. Under a lease, IL sales tax laws would tax me on both the purchase price and the residual value if I purchased the vehicle outright at the end of the lease.

My questions: Does anyone have the residual values and/or factors VW Credit has for the Touareg under the Owner's Choice program for 24/36/48 months? Also, I am concerned about the V6 being under powered, but would prefer not to spend the extra cash for a V8, comments anyone.

    Thanks to all.

    I am a bad customer, I only lease and I buy the payment. . . by markcincinnati Nov 12, 2003 (3:19 pm)
I have found that the dealer's get to a "number" -- or CAP COST, no matter what buy, finance or lease. As long as you are happy with the cap cost and the method of payment is YOUR choice, I find I can sit beside the sales rep and enter the numbers into their lease-alator program and make a change or two here and there and come up with the number that I trust and that I can afford or am willing to pay.

The dealers some of y'all must deal with must really be slimy to read some of these posts.

Now, if VWGUILD is an Internet Only rep, I would assume that we could "all" buy from him, if we felt uncomfortable buying from our "local" dealer.

As I noted, my friend used to deliver cars for dealers all over the US -- and he always flatbedded them so as not to put miles on them, of course.

If you are in Cincinnati and want to buy from a non-slimy dealer, well I know for certain of one (at least) that qualifies as slime free and of high integrity (kinda rhymes doesn't it?).

Vote with your dollars -- don't vote for the slimy guys.

Any one with a 2004 Touareg axperiencing wind noise out of the rear air vents at the door frame? I am getting a whistling sound when ac is on.
  • qpowerqpower Member Posts: 34
I had no trouble setting up the Homelink device, my first.

Did you notice the update bulletin in the back of the owner's book telling you to hold the transmitter towards the front of the windshield above the mirror which is where the transmitter emitter is located?

I am not certain, but there are caveats in the literature about the system working with all door opener models. My opener is circa 1990...

I have encoded two buttons for two different garage doors - I rather like the feature, which also relies on a good antenna at the garage door opener to work well.

    Keep trying!
  • tregownertregowner Member Posts: 26
Yes...I have the same thing when the ac is on the highest blower settings. It appears to be caused by a loose seal between the plastic fittings between the door and the door post that carries the air to the upper outlet behind the front seats.
  • vwguildvwguild Member Posts: 1,620
There is a supplement in the Owner's Manual of newer T-Regs that address this issue...

Basically, what you need to do is hold your current opener close to the wind shield, behind the rear view mirror, and NOT in front of the HomeLink buttons...Try it...
  • tregownertregowner Member Posts: 26
qpower and vwguild's advice proved to be correct. Holding the transmitter on the winshield side of the unit works. It took only a few seconds for the HomeLink to capture the signal. My owners manual did not have the supplemental info. Thanks for the help....I can ditch my multiple senders now.

Touareg owners - what are your ACTUAL towing experiences? I am considering buying one, but need to tow a 6000lbs boat.
  • bsingh1bsingh1 Member Posts: 2
My new ( 5 day old ) Touareg has been at the VW dealer for two days now, and they tell me the wind noise in the rear vent cannot be repaired. They had a VW engineer come in from Los Angleles to repair this problem. NO LUCK!! Buyers beware. For a $47,000.00 vehicle, VW needs to do their homework on these items if they want to sell a higher end vehicle.
Anyone else had this problem resolved??
  • rower2rower2 Member Posts: 22
Is anybody else having a problem with the tyre pressure monitor warning besides the earlier the earlier post who had to enact the lemon law? Is there a fix for this or is VW yanking my chain? My Touareg has been in the shop 3 times for this and this time, it's been two days and they are still waiting for a call back from the "VW Techs". What kind of way is this to do business? I would appreciate any input from anybody who's had a similar problem.

I looked at this board for months.
I went to a local dealer a couple of months ago. The SUV was there but with many problems. First off the trunk would not open! Did you know that unless the battery is OK, you can't even open the trunk manually? It gets locked and closed.
Forget anything else, if your battery runs down, you can't even open the trunk to take out your emergency equipment.

I had to go to a Toyota last week and test drove the Land Cruiser. It may be long in the tooth, but is very smooth. The Navigation is excellent and the rear camera alone is worth all the extra money (and as a bonus, it runs on regular gas).
  • vwguildvwguild Member Posts: 1,620
Gross Towing Capacity of the T-Reg is 7716#s and the Gross Tongue Weight is 616#s...You may be pushing the limits a bit here...

Range Rover out as well...Gross Tongue Weight there is 550#s.

Both of these vehicles are more center weighted and handle speed very well, as opposed to your conventional 2500 Pick Up truck that carries most of it's weight up front...and hence will allow for more tongue weight capacity...

"There are plenty of good midsize luxury SUVs on the market; many, like the Touareg, are new or newly redesigned and some seem to offer a smoother driving experience. The one thing other SUVs simply can't match is the fact that the Touareg is a Volkswagen."

I am very interested in purchasing a T-reg, however I am very concerned about the Nav system. I've heard all negative things? Any experiences that either of you have had would be greatly appreciated. Is it true that you can't listen to music while using the system? Is it true that it doesn't know street names? I welcome your opinions. Thanks in advance
  • tregownertregowner Member Posts: 26
I did not purchase the navigation system. I shouldn't admit it, but I still use maps. I also feel that the cost of the systems put in cars continues to be artificially high, relative to what you can get in a hand-held gps. In any event, I'm sorry that I have no feedback for you.

I just read the Edmunds article regarding the V8 Touareg's Full test Drive in the V8. I'm kind of puzzled as I have driven the V8 3 times over different kinds of roads and have never gotten the impression that writer gave me today. I never was concerned about stopping, the transmission shifted smoothly and hitting bumps in Comfort Mode didn't cause me to bounce all around in town. I think it gets to the point that the people who test drive these SUV's or whatever wouldn't be happy even with a 500K car. It's amazing how one review praises the Touareg and the next one finds several faults with it. It starts to make me wonder if I missed something and if I was dreaming during my 3 test drives. I liked it better overall than the Lexus SUV's, the Armada, and the MDX to name a few. Just my opinion, but it's no way as bad as this writer made it sound. And I have never even owned a VW, let alone one this nice..

VWGUILD should help; I understand it is CD based, but my 03 allroad's is too and it works GREAT 98% of the time. You mean you think you can't use the CD and the nav system at the same time? Again, VWGUILD to the rescue.

Or, better still, call a dealer and see what he/she has to say on this subject.

Mine has street names and, as noted, is very accurate. Trouble is, my system requires 9 CD's -- of the 9 that come with the car, in my case, I've only ever used 2, and almost always only use 1 -- for distances greater than 250 miles, I generally fly so changing a CD is not that much of an issue -- I mean even a CD covers a lot of geography.

My friend with a Mercedes and the Nav CD system has the system that occupies a slot above the radio, and be puts his music CD's in a changer that is located in the trunk -- perhaps, just perhaps that is what VW has chosen to do.

Assuming the maps on CDs are of similar orgin (VW and Audi, I would hope so) the coverage is impressive -- but not 100%.

I wouldn't be without it now.

is listed in this VW Touareg model/equipment PDF, even though it's still a no-show at dealers. Also, no mention of a full-size spare for other models yet.

I am thinking about getting a new SUV in the near future, and I am thinking about the Touareg.

Does the V6 have enough power to be fun and not struggle up the mountains (real mts like rockies, cascades, etc).

    Is the NAV worth it?

What are the Pro's and Con's of the V8, V6 and NAV?

    Thanks for any input!
  • rshollandrsholland Member Posts: 19,788
What's most surprising about this, is not that VW won the award, but 4-Wheel & Off-Road's obvious change of heart regarding off-roaders with IFS/IRS.

I've been a subscriber to 4-Wheel & Off-Road for a number of years, and I've found a distinct bias on their part against any SUV and/or truck with fully independent suspensions. In short, they HATE 'em.

Now the IFS/IRS-equipped Touareg has won their hearts. Amazing...

If it's a press release it should be easily found on the net and easily linked to. I don't see it anywhere on a net search though. Maybe when it hits the PR newswires.

    According to press release:

10 new four-wheel-drive pickup trucks and SUVs were tested: The Nissan Titan, Chevrolet Colorado, Ford F-150, Toyota Tundra Double Cab, Isuzu Ascender, Isuzu Axiom, Nissan Pathfinder Armada, Dodge Durango and Lexus GX470 plus the T-reg.

Doug McColloch said: "The Touareg redefines the luxury SUV segment....It was a runaway winner in my book."

The T-reg easily won the Mechanical, Interior and Exterior categories. It was a week-long test that contained tons of offroad stuff and some onroad segments.

Rest of the press release cites well-known facts and more laudatory stuff, not nec to repeat here.

The issue goes on sale on 12/28/03

First of all, I would never spend $40-$50K on a NAV System...;)The Touareg equipped with the NAV/Sound System II also includes a 6 Disc Changer; so that you can play all of the music you want and still use the NAV...

As to the NAV itself...this is a very subjective call...If you are coming to this from a Japanese product; it will probably not knock your socks off. It is not a "touch screen", the maps do not show street names, although the street that you are on is clearly displayed in the MFI screen...NavTech supplies a manual that is almost 50 pages long and there are certainly a ton of possibilities that, quite frankly, I have not had the time to explore.

But, I must confess, I am not the best one to ask...First of all, my primary client base is far more interested in performance than maps...And, being in my fifties, I have never really been the least bit interested in having a NAV System...never really needed one...The USMC spent considerable time and money teaching me and other Officers at Quantico how to read a map.

However; last Saturday I took a Phaeton to a Wine Tasting about an hour away, and just for fun we put in our DESTINATION, and it worked fine...Recognized our position and pleasantly directed us where to turn, and lo & behold, there
we were...Which reminds me...at the speeds we were travelling I don't think it would have been a good idea to be reading street names anyway...:)

I look forward to chatting about the touareg with everyone.
