I now agree that this dealer was misinformed.

    1. New 05 Muranos are on the lot at another dealer.

    2. All VINs start with J so it would appear they were made in Japan, not the US.

    Ah well, trust but verify . . . .

While at the Nissan dealer to have oil change on my 04 Murano I had a chance to drive an 05. Not any major changes, the rear hatch has an elect. sw. instead of the mechanical latch to open hatch. The key fob will unlock the doors when you approach & ignition sw.will operate W/O the key inserted. There is a rectangular knob to grip the sw.
The exhaust front muffler still exposed & willowy. I didn't catch the sticker price. The ride is still rough and noisy.

And homeouner, have you stopped beating your wife? Rough and noisy ride? Do I detect an "agenda" here? My Murano rides quietly and very smoothly thank you very much!

Well I finally did it, I bought a Murano. After months of research on various vehicles, Honda crv,, Toyota rav4, Highlander, Ford Escape, Explorer, Chevy Tahoe,Equinox...then I test drove a Murano. WOW! It handles like a sports car, is as comfortable as sitting in your big ol easy chair at home, and has more room inside for passengers...front and rear than all the others.

I have been following some of the comments on the "Big MO"...so I decided to take a look at them and maybe test drive one. Well I was sold. This is the car that suited me and the wife.

Her parents are older 80's, and both have leg problems. Getting in and out of other vehicles can be extremely difficult, not to mention storage of both of their walkers. Well the MO has more leg room and is easier to get in and out of than any of those other vehicles that I looked at.

I bought a 2004 SL AWD Pearl White, leather, sunroof, with touring package, Boze radio, mud flaps, roof rack cross bars, rear cargo protector, rubber floor mats, and dynamic control. $30,900. Every where I go I get "What is that?"
"It's beautiful" and those who ride in it say "WOW!" dealer was GREAT ...Have 2k miles on it. The gas mileage around town about 19.7 mpg Highway 24-26 mpg. at 60-70 mph NO NOISES YET...The CVT takes some getting used to..(no shifting) but is great here in Western Pennsylvania with the hills. The CVT holds you back a little going down hill. Barely have to use the brakes. It holds the road so well I thought I was driving a Z car...not a SUV. MAKES MY FATHER IN LAW'S EXPLORER LOOK SICK ALL THE WAY AROUND(He paid $28k for it)

    What a car...I love it...YO BIG MO

Consumer Reports reports my findings, but since we are the aficionados of Marano we are their best critics. That is why I post these comments, to get others opinions, yours is always welcome. To get a smooth ride out of your Morano you gotta be sitting on a lot of pillows or your head!!

twp_chief--it would appear that you are quoting a price $7000 below invoicefor your MO (I'll assume $1000 of that is the nissan incentive). Did you have a trade in? If not, how did you manage to get that low? What area of the country are you in? thanks--any info would be appreciated

2004 Murano SL - This started about a month after purchase and is getting markedly worse. The first start of the day is the worst. Later on in the day it is there, but not nearly as bad. I get loud nasty sounding crackling and pops for several seconds, less than a minute, from the speakers. It does not matter if the stereo is on or not. It still happens with the stereo off. It goes away usually within 15 seconds and everything is fine.

Yes, I do crank the stereo. They should be cranked. That's why they put the nice high power Bose system in there. I've also played my sister-in-law's just as loud with no problems.

    Anyone seen this problem?

    hi all,
well i own a '03 SE Murano. everything but the NAV system. i got regular oil changes until last month when i was advised by a freind about synthetic (i knew about it but never though for that) i did some research for the products and found that AMSOIL is way better than mobil 1. first, it goes upto 6 months or 12,000 km ( i aint gonna wait that long for my oil change). second i saw the comparison at this site http://www.smartsynthetics.com/articles/nothing_outperforms_mobil- 1.htm and then some more research showed that amsoil is really better than mobil 1. Has anyone of you got experience with amsoil ? i got it at a really good price too ( almost same as Mobil 1)
also, i was reading the NHTSA ratings for roll overs and Murano performed really great in their tests.

While the Murano may not be Lexus smooth and quiet I find mine (an SL) to be just as smooth and quiet, or more so, than any other mid sized SUV I have driven. I owned a Maxima before the Murano and the Murano is easilly more smooth and just as quiet. Remember, this is not a luxury sedan we are talking about here.
  • twp_chieftwp_chief Member Posts: 7
The Murano I bought was sitting on the lot. I did my research. I walked on to the lot late in the evening and the General Sales Manager was the only one there. I told him I wanted to test drive one. He gave me the keys, and for two days I drove it around. I came back and told him what I wanted to pay and that I knew what he paid for it (research). He looked up the invoice, then showed it to me on his computer in his office. He took the incentives off and haggeled over the pricce for two days then he finally let me have it for what I wanted to pay. I got the invoice price from an insider at another dealership, not consumers report or edmunds. Consumer report was closer to the real invoice on this vehicle than Edmunds. Have to remember some dealers get bigger hold backs, and incentives than others.

I live in the Toronto area. Could you tell me where you bought Amsoil.
    Thanks
  • steverstever Guest Posts: 52,454
Amsoil is a MLM type of company. If you want some of the product you may just want to check out becoming a dealer. My old neighbor was one and never sold a drop of oil to anyone else.

1-800-777-7094 and ask for your local dealers.

    Hello
getting a low tire pressuer warning light last night. after add more air into it. the warning light still on and the tire pressure is up to 32 now. Can I reset the warning light? anyone know how to do it or I have take it back to the dealer.

    Thank you
  • dklaneckydklanecky Member Posts: 559
The Murano tire pressure warning isn't specific to any particular tire, it reports when any of them are low. What are the four readings saying?

    Are all four tires OK?

If so, try driving for a few blocks and see if it doesn't report higher pressure?
  • email77email77 Member Posts: 27
Yes, it works. Thank you dklancky. all 4 tires are O.K. just the weather make the tires pressure go low. after I follow your instruction. the light go away. thank God. NO thank you.

I'm considering getting a Murano, but sometimes have to carry a kid in the front passenger seat. Can I turn off the bag to do this more safely?
  • gerapaugerapau Member Posts: 211
No you can't. Not many cars allow you to do that. Usually just the 2-seaters. You are wise not to put a young kid in the front since even a small fender-bender can end up in tragedy.

    Hey all,

Lease-idiot here with a few questions.

Does it really matter how much the Murano is if you lease? seems to me the important number here is the residual after the lease ends. And if you wish to buy the car then, you want a low residual. If you want to give it back you want a high residual?...or am I back wards?

Also, does paying extra every month help anything when going the lease route? sales guy says no...but they have agendas sometimes.

    Thanks

I got my murano several months ago , I love nissan .. The only thing that I heard a lot about the suv's and they are dangerous ... I don't know what think about the murano AWD re ability in winter , in snow and without the vehicle dynamic control...

Also what is the best seat for a car seat , on side or the middle but i know that murano has a 4 stars out of 5 in the side impact

    thanks!!
  • dodoc2003dodoc2003 Member Posts: 20
SUV's are dangerous if you drive them like a car. As long as you keep in mind that their higher center of gravity makes them more prone to rollovers, you should be fine. This unfortunately can't be helped if you need to make an emergency maneuver at higher speeds so when choosing an SUV, it's important to assess it's tendency to roll over as all SUV's are not created equal in this respect. Regarding car seats, they always belong in the center. Also, have your car seat installation checked by your local fire department personnel who is certified in car seat safety since most car seats are improperly installed.
  • gerapaugerapau Member Posts: 211
As far as rollover tendencies are concerned, the Murano is one of the safest SUVs. Check out http://www.safercar.gov/RollRatings.cfm for info on suv rollover tendencies.

I recently purchased a set of OEM wheels off a Murano and plan to install them on my Infiniti FX35 for the winter. I'd like to get chrome lug nuts for the wheels, but don't know what type (tuner, acorn, etc).

I can probably use my current lug nuts, but they are hidden behind the center caps on my Infiniti wheels. I'd like to protect the studs from the salt and slime of winter, plus dress up the wheels a bit. I am pretty certain the size is 12mm x 1.25mm.

One option is to go to a Nissan dealer and buy them there, but I thought I might be able to get them at Autozone or a similar shop close by.

    Thanks in advance.
  • dklaneckydklanecky Member Posts: 559
On the stock Murano wheels, the lug nuts are also hidden behind the center caps.
  • GischpelGischpel Member Posts: 133
    The wheels look like these...

    image

My guess is they must be upgrades on a Murano. I actually would have preferred the stock wheels which look more like FX wheels, but these are sharp.
  • gerapaugerapau Member Posts: 211
Gischpel, those are the wheels from the Murano SL. The SE wheels are what dklanecky is thinking about and are covered by the center caps.
  • GischpelGischpel Member Posts: 133
Thanks for the clarification. I installed the wheels today and the end result looks good. Thanks again.

I've been told 2 versions of the AWD System on the 2005 SL Murano. I just want to know if it is possible to be in 2 wheel drive on clear roads. Does the AWD system automatically do this?

I was told to only Lock AWD when stuck in snow.

    What's the deal.

    Thanks,

    Steve
  • dklaneckydklanecky Member Posts: 559
I believe all AWD Muranos are two wheel (front wheel) drive vehicles UNLESS the AWD lock switch is engaged. At least that's the way I drive mine. I only lock the AWD button when in snowy conditions (like this morning here in Milwaukee).

The owners manual for my 2003 is VERY CLEAR about not driving on dry pavement with the AWD locked.

Says it can cause serious damage to the system.

    Your 2005 maybe different.

Hi, I am new to this forum and I am taking the delivery of Murano SL AWD Fully loaded with all options and loaded with all accessories except tow package. Since I am getting a good deal I went for this. So far I have not seen many negative feedback and it was one of the reasons to go for MO. I needed a 4 wheel drive and something that will ride smooth. I preferred MO than RX330 since I am saving about 7K and still getting all options I needed and the ride is smooth. I may not get a Lexus treatment at the dealership, but I do not care that much for. I will post my feedback soon.
  • steverstever Guest Posts: 52,454
    Congrats on the new Murano.

Please post details about the deal over in the Nissan Murano: Prices Paid & Buying Experience discussion too.

  • ron_mron_m Member Posts: 186
Well, the "Lexus treatment at the dealership" is overrated. I have a 2002 Lexus IS300 that I purchased brand new and I can assure you that a Lexus owner can end up getting just as frustrated with a Lexus dealership as they could with any other brand of vehicle's dealership(s). It's not always an overall pleasant experience. However, the vehicle itself has been flawless to date. I'll admit that.

A fully loaded Murano SL AWD is also what I have my sights set on now; but as an additional vehicle for our family and not as a replacement for my car.

OK, I have got my new MURANO, SL AWD, Fully loaded, Platinum exterior and Charcoal interior and love it so far. The MSRP was 40,200 and the invoice was about 36,350. I paid 36,150 since I have VPP from my employer and the price is fixed and no haggling. VPP pricing was one of the reasons for me to go with Nissan. So the dealer experience was good and I also took the extended warranty since I heard some stories about CVT and Alternator.

I like the ride, xenon head lights, NAV is cool. The backup camera is too cool, it even has the guide lines to indicate how close you are to an object. The stereo is good and sub woofer is nice. I love it so far.

Thanks for all the feedback on this forum.

Can you use regular unleaded gas in the Murano, or

do you have to follow the recommendation of the

manufacturer to use premium or ________.

Looking at the Murano for the gas mileage.

This is a factor, if I have to pay more

    for gas.

    Thanks!
  • tinycadontinycadon Member Posts: 287
I use 87 octane gas and do fine. I drive 70-75mph on highway trips and get 22-24mpg. City driving is about 12-14mpg, not great, but I don't drive to many city miles. No knocking, or pinging, acceleration is fine, there is absolutely NO reason to have to use high octane gas with this vehicle.

My intelligent key works fine for the drivers door and passenger door and not for the trunk door. Is there any calibration or procedure to enable it?

    Thanks in advance.
  • natasgnatasg Member Posts: 2
Did you notice that there is a button to the right of the hatch that you need to press before being able to open the back. This acts just like the drivers door and locks and unlocks.
  • srikanth2305srikanth2305 Member Posts: 22
Yup I did and it worked when I took the delivery of the car. It stopped working after that. Thats why I am trying to see whether I can do something before I have to take it to the dealer.
  • shopper7shopper7 Member Posts: 4
Thank you for responding. Are you suggesting that your getting low gas mileage in the city because of the kind of gas you are putting in?

Also, the sticker says that the Murano gets 20 in the city and 25 in highway. Do you think you will get better mileage in the city once you have your car longer?
  • tinycadontinycadon Member Posts: 287
No, I think 12-14 is legit in the city, remember, those are just EPA estimates, it isn't derived from real world driving experiences. Watch the monitor when you have the MPG screen up, every time you step on the gas the bar drops below the 10mpg line, think about how many times you do that in stop and go traffic, it'll do a number on your mileage. I have almost 8k miles now, so I'd say I'm about broken in, expect to get now what I'll get in the future.

I've never tried using high octane gas, maybe on my next few fill ups I'll give it a try and see what happens? But if it only gets you an extra 1-2 mpg, it isn't worth it, and that's my guess.
  • silvercloudiiisilvercloudiii Member Posts: 10
I would like to know if the 04 or 05 Murano has a light in the luggage area in back. The 03 did not have that light.

    Thanks SCIII
  • silvercloudiiisilvercloudiii Member Posts: 10
Octane will not add and MPG at all. The reason for higher octane is to get rid of a knock, if any is present. That's all it's good for. No more power, no nothing. Just burn faster so no knock.

Don't waist your money if your looking for better milage with Higher Octane. SCIII
  • depdep Member Posts: 79
That is true in cars designed to use regular and do not have varaible value timing.

However, a number of cars are designed to use either regular, mid, or premium gas and do extract more HP from higher octane fuel.

Most of the Murano's around here do not have the trailer hitch option and that is one option that I want.

I am sure that the dealer will offer to install one as an accessory but what I want to know is what is included in the factory installed hitch. Is it JUST the hitch and wiring or does it also include things like a transmission oil cooler, ect., etc. that most trailering packages do?

    Thanks! D
  • depdep Member Posts: 79
    Ok, another question...

NONE of the Murano's the dealers have here include the XM radio option installed at the factory and the dealers say they can install one (for more $s than the factory option of course).

What has to be done to install XM as a dealer option? Specifically,

Does the dash have to be taken apart?

Does the headliner or other parts of the car have to be taken apart?

Do they install a generic black antenna or is it color matched to the truck like Honda does?

    Anything else I should know?

    Thanks! D
  • hugheshughes Member Posts: 3
Muranos are AWD. That means (all wheels drive all the time).

When you lock in the dif. It locks the Difs. 50/50 front and back. Better for deep snow, mud.

AWD is for driving on reg. snow and ice and will transfer different amounts of power from front to back wheels when necessary. ie: 70/30--70/30

20/80 40/60. 33/67 etc. Lock the diff. in and your 50/50 all the time. and the ax. are locked. (both wheels turn at the same speed ratio, even though when turning both wheels are not turning on the same radius. (you drag the outside tire. That why they say don't do this on dry pavement. you will ruin a tire.
  • rinarina Member Posts: 2
Regarding AWD , I just want to make sure that I got right... When I bought my Nissan I was told by the dealer that I should leave it on Auto not on Off and the car it self sense the road and switch from front wheel to all wheels drive so why you have to lock it during snow and why we got th AWD than ... And what about rainin condition ....
