    hey everyone,
i just recently purchsed the 05 ram daytona qc and i love it. the thing looks awesome, and smoked a few punks in imports around town :) well the question that i have which im hoping someone can help me with is: i am looking for a good hard tonneau cover for the truck, but i want to install the rear wing on top of the tonneau. any suggestions as to an affordable cover? the latest quote i got was for 1400, im just not willng to pay that kind of money, and i definitely do not want a soft top. also, any ideas as to how i can use the functional hood scoop with an optional cold air induction without getting the water in? thanks, luke.

Something that I added to my Dakota was the optional Dodge door scuff plates. For the Dakota they're plastic with an adhesive on the back. They have been no trouble for three years and keep the bottom of the door jams from getting beat up by boots and shoes.

Hope your Dad has good luck with the RAM.

    Regards,
    Dusty

Title says it all. I've read a few posts where some have installed Edelbrock and liked them, but nothing referencing Bilstein. I've had it the rough ride with the factory shocks and am going to swap them out on my 05 QC 1500 4x4. Like to hear if there's any difference between these two shocks. Thanks.

I recently purchased a 99 Dodge Ram 1500 from a used car dealer. It came with white face gauges that glow blue or green at night. It has a touch pad that allows you to select the color it glows. I now have two problems. One, it stopped glowing. The needles still light up but the background no longer glows making it hard to read the gauges at night.....and two, I have NO clue who made this product. I have searched online for hours and cannot find one like it. I have taken pictures of it and will send it to anyone willing to help identify the brand. I figure it's just a loose wire because it will flicker when I use the dimmer but it will not stay on. APC has confirmed that it is not one of their products.

While I agree that Speedliner is a superior liner compared to a Rhino or Linex, you chose the wrong reasons. 1st, Kevlar get's it's strength from the way the fibers are woven together. When you cut it into pieces for a liner it loses all of the strength properties. You might as well throw polyesther in the liner. The reasons that a batch system like Speedliner or Superliner is better is because they use aliphatic resin which has the UV protectant built into the liner which has the benefit of retaining it's color and results in zero chalking or fading.
  • charlieperezcharlieperez Member Posts: 2
Why would you buy a drop in? Any impact you put on that liner scratches the underlying paint which in turn causes the bed to rust. Go with a batch system spray on liner like Superliner or Speedliner. They have non chalking or fading liners that can customize the color of the liner to the truck and can do graphics.. not to mention 50-80% stronger than the rest of the liners.

I have just bought a 2004 Ram 1500. I would like to determine if it has the anti-spin differential. The window sticker is incomplete. I think the info is coded on the dorr post label, but I don't know how to interpret. Any one know how to decode?

    Thanks

I had already looked at that page and none are mine. I've looked at all the popular name brand ones and cannot find any like mine. I had thought I narrowed the problem down to one of the two harnesses in the rear of the instrument cluster and replaced the part....no luck. Still has the same problem. I don't think the dimmer switch would have anything to do with it and don't want to purchase a new one just to find out. If anyone can look at the pictures I've taken of it or might know how to solve the problem I could sure use the help. The other night it just decided it would start working again but then stopped about 15 minutes later. I've checked all the wires I can find that connect to it and cannot find one that has been cut, damaged, or is loose.

I to am looking for the NAV CD updates for my 2004 RAM 4x4 turbodiesel truck. Its the standard NAV system without the map just the voice directions and turn icons. Have you heard where I can order theses cd's? I talked to dealers and they tell me they are not available??????? GPS has to have updates for it to be current info and useful. Did you ever get a answer for yourself? Thanks, Scott

There is another sticker inside the glovebox. It will tell you which rear end you have and is not coded, so you can read it.

Has anyone installed the OEM # M82208160 flame kit or have you seen it on a truck? I am interested in installing it on my truck but I am wondering if it looks professional or does it look like a cheap decal.

I have a 2003 Dodge 1500 Quad cab with 4WD, Hemi engine. It has been a completely trouble-free truck (16000 miles) and I am well satisfied.
The only way you'll get 20mpg is going downhill with a tailwind. I can get 17mpg at 60mph if there is not too much stop and go. Normal mileage is more like 15 for a highway trip and 12-13 for a mix of city/highway. Power is excellent, as is acceleration. Just expect to use a lot of fuel, like any other full size ruck!
  • dustykdustyk Member Posts: 2,926
    Dano,

There have two or three reports here of Hemi RAMs getting into the high teens and 20 MPG on two-wheel drives. Driving characteristics make a big difference with respect to gas mileage. I've had one actual (face-to-face) report of a steady 17+ routine driving in a RAM 1500 Hemi from a person I know only briefly, a former Chevy lover and long time Dodge hater. I suspect he's not embellished his results.

    Good luck with your's

    Best regards,
    Dusty

I am a new member here and would like some advice. I have an '02 Ram 4x4 QC 5.9L (360) w/ factory 20" wheels. I've had this truck for over 2 yrs (it was a District Manager's truck in Utah before I got it at auction). I've noticed it have a slight, but steady drop in acceleration and general "power". It just feels sluggish and "heavy". I plan on slapping on a Flowmaster 1 to 2 exhaust, a tonneau cover, a K&N cold air intake and possibly a performance module. I recently changed my thermostat out for a 180 degree. First, is it wise after all these changes/add-ons to drop down to a 160 degree thermo? And second, Is there anything else I can do? I love the truck. It's been very good to me and I'd hate to send it out to pasture...especially for a Chevy or (perish the thought) a Ford because I can get a good deal for one. I only have 26K miles on it. Also, is there a true dual exhaust kit for it out there?
  • dustykdustyk Member Posts: 2,926
First, how are you sure there's been a drop in acceleration? I would not trust your seat-of-the-pants feel on something like this. You drive the vehicle everyday and get use to the performance. Pretty soon it seems average.

With regards to installing a colder thermostat, I would highly recommend that it not be done. In fact, I would not have installed a 180. The Powertrain Control Module reads engine temperature an makes timing and fuel mixture changes based on this information. You could be reducing performance and actually hurting emissions control equipment.

    Dusty

on dodge ram 2500 4x4 can i fit 33" inch tire on a stock lift
  • roper2roper2 Member Posts: 61
I have a question? Replaceing the stock air intake system with a cold air intaketube system on this engine help fuel milage and power? Or after around 1-5hundred miles does the computer adjust to the system and run normal again.I was thinking buying one but not sure about it. I have a 2002 4.7 Ram.
  • stooges3stooges3 Member Posts: 18
I installed 33X12.50 R17 Pro Comp all terrain tires on 10" rims on the rear of my 2002 2WD Ram with no problems. I also finished the wheel wells off with the rear factory liners for a nice clean look and still had no clearance problems and they look great.

    Re-Gearing

I have a 2004 Dodge Ram Quad 4, 1500 with a 4.7 engine. I recently have put a 3 inch lift on my truck and have repalced the stock P245 tires with 315's. I have lost horse power since and have had a shifting problem. I was told upgrading my stock rear end gears to a 410 rear end gear would solve this problem. My question is how big of a rear end gear can I install without having to replace the whole back end ?

Help I am trading side mirrors on 2003 Dodge 2500(regular type that do not flip up) with a 2005 Dodge 2500 (towing type that do flip up). Would this be an easy project that I should do myself or should I bring it to the dealership. Can anyone tell me how to do this or a website that has instructions to follow. I would really like to do it myself if someone could tell me how!

I have a 2003 1500 with the Hemi. It is a 4x4 quad cab larime. It is my daily driver and I commute a bit, so I have 47k miles on it already. I have noticed lately a power loss. It almost feels like I am towing something. Sometimes it also sputters a little bit at idle. I figured it was the spark plugs since they needed replaced at 48k miles and it help a little, but not a lot. The engine was supposedly tuned at the time of the sparkplug replacement by the dealer and they said nothing was wrong. I thought maybe it was something with the air intake, but I have K&N already so maybe clogged fuel induction? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I guess I guess I should add that this is a stick shift. There doesn't seem to be too much room to put the box.

I am currently running 265/70R17 on my 2002 dodge 1500 with everything stock and am wondering if anyone has upsized to 295/70R17. According to a tire site I found, they say the 285 is the largest size that will fit without modification, which is a 32.5 diameter tire. The 295's are listed at 33.2, which is just .2 inches taller than running dodge 20's. Has anyone experimented with this?? The tire dealer said I should be fine given how small the difference is but dont want to take a chance either. Is anyone running 295's with a stock lift? Thanks

My truck gets sluggish acceleration and low bottom end torque at regular intervals. The first time, after ignoring it for 2 weeks, it got bad, and the check engine lt came on. I was looking at it, and found the oils smelled of raw fuel.

I took it to the dealer, suspecting bad rings or something major. The tech pulled the intake body, and did some cleaning, and also did an injector cleaning. He advised the buildup on the throttle body plates and passages reduced the efficiency of the system, and the dirty injectors prevented the fuel from atomizing correctly in the cylinder.

The difference was trememdous, but the price was 200 bucks.

Since then, I have tried to use only clean fuels, and that helped some. I have found that so-called super concentrated injector cleaner additives every other tank keep it running well. It has been 15000 since the repair, and after testing various brands, I found the black bottle with the three letter name works best for me.

    Good luck

I have a '96 5.9L Gas engine 1500 Pickup. I want to put a transmission temp Gauge in. I only see gauges for diesels. Does anyone know of a transmission temp gauge I can use and were to get it?

I'm thinking of adding a tonneau master cover to my Ram 1500. Any complaints or endorsements. Is it water tight. Please let me know. Thanks
  • loncrayloncray Member Posts: 301
Markson, I think tranny gauges are made for different models of transmission, not engine. So, if the diesel gauge goes with the transmission you have (even with a gaser), you ought to be able to use it. Dusty or KCRam will correct me if that's incorrect. As I understand it, diesels often get tranny gauges because they have so much more torque and pull bigger loads, which drive tranny temps up.

Fluid and mechanical components of the automatic transmission will generally yield maximum service when the transmission fluid is operating at approximately 175°F for Dexron-Mercon, approximately 175°F to 200°F for ATF+4. When operated at the prescribed temperature, ATF should last approximately 100,000 miles for Dexron, 150,000 miles for ATF+4. Both progressively lower and higher fluid temperatures will represent a change in friction coefficency of the fluid and increase load stresses on various friction materials and components in the transmission leading to shortened transmission life.

It is the higher fluid temperatures, however, that cause a non-linear increase in fluid oxidation and alters the practical life of the ATF. When the transmission temperature increases to 195°F, the practical life of the ATF is reduced to 50,000 miles.

It's been a while since the last time I've glanced at a transmission temperature gauge, but I don't believe that diesel versions of automatic transmissions are any more tolerant of temperature. In the case of Dodge truck transmissions, I believe this to be especially true since the same mechanical archetecture is used in the 47 & 48RE diesels trannies, as all other Chrysler designed and built automatics. The only real departure from that would be the 545RFE.

    Best regards,
    Dusty
  • dustykdustyk Member Posts: 2,926
I should add that on Dodge trucks the (automatic) Transmission Overtemp Indicator Lamp is illuminated when the transmission temperature reaches 275°F.

    Hey Luke,

I'm not sure if you still need an answer on the Tonneau cover/wing removal. First, to remove the wing, you'll need to remove the two visible screws, slide the wing back and thats it. Second, I was able to get a (Cap World) Leer 700 series cover for $840 installed. You can will need to visit an experienced fabrication shop to have the wing installed (to tonneau cover). It should cost no more that $150 (installed).

    Good luck

Have the 05 Ram Quad Cab with tow pkg. and came with plug in glove box. Trying to install the electric brake controller and can not find the darn matching blue plug which is supposed to be under the dash behind the guages, and on the large bracket.
Can anyone help me locate this?? Thanks!

Thanks Rick. My intentions are the same. Keep the 17's on during the winter and put the 20's on sometime in the spring. thx again.

I recently purchased new rims and tires for my 2002 Ram 1500 4X4. I am running 275/55-20 Pirelli Scorpion. But originally I was going for Nitto Terra Grapplers, Discount Tire Company suggested 305/50-20 for my stock lift. But they were on backorder for 3 months. So I bought the Pirelli's instead.

If your still having trouble find information on stuff for your truck try www.dodgtruckworld.com
