Yeah, best to have the dealer look at it, I'm drawing a blank -- many possibilities, nothing specific to point a finger at. Did you smell anti-freeze?

Best thing (or maybe worst, keep reading) I did was to build a loft in our garage. I have 15 foot ceilings in there, so there's a ton of wasted overhead space. I made a 4foot x 17foot loft against the back wall, and have plans to do a bigger loft right over the garage door if needed.

What kills me is that my first loft is out of level. My dad had given me a bunch of tools when we moved in, all very desirable (including pneumatic nail guns). He also gave me a 4foot level, which was apparently way out of whack. I used the level to line up the support against the back wall, and then also used it to level the main beam in the front of the loft. Clearly, I flipped to different sides of the level for each, because the back of the loft slopes one way, the front the other!! (and neither is right) I built the whole damn loft before noticing. When finished, I stepped back to admire my work and almost bugged my eyeballs out. It's off by 2" over 17 feet, and the combination of the two different slopes front and back is just lovely. I grumble everytime I look at it. You'd never know I was trained as a carpenter by looking at this thing! If anyone notices, I just tell them the house is crooked but the loft is level....

I love it! Next time I am down in Williamsburg, I will have to come over to see your level loft and the crooked house.

Gee, hope you point the rockets with more precision..... ;-)
    Which way is Mars, anyhow???

Joybell- I'm completely befuddled by the burnt mitten smell. And you're right, If the engine was really only idling for 3-5 minutes, it should've just been starting to warm up. For it to get that hot that quick leads me to think that the coolant wasn't circulating at all. Could something have frozen in a line somewhere? But that seems unlikely since as Pat pointed out, Canadian cars have excellent antifreeze. You've never had to add coolant/water have you? The only thing else I can think of is an air bubble somewhere in the system. In any case, let us know what the dealer finds and good luck!

I love my car port, but it still only covers 2 of our 3 cars. The Miata was covered in snow, but this time I brushed it off, because last time a coat of ice formed over it when I didn't. Took a couple of weeks to melt off!

My ideal house? A 5-car garage with a small loft where I could sleep. :o)

Oh, and a private track out back.

funny, there is house in my town that has just that - about 3 or 4 garages below the living area. The garages are about 3 times the size of the living area. Wonder if there is a Subie in one of those spaces.

    G'day

Saw the ideal houxse recently. Big house upstairs and parking for ten cars underneath. The guy who owns it is happy!

    Cheers

    More Honda truck(s)?

Looks like the rumors may be true. The all-new Acura RL will have 300HP, AWD, and may be a hybrid!

If that doesn't shake up that luxury market segment, nothing will.

For Honda, it's too early to tell. Remember, Toyota got a lot of criticism when the T100 came out for being a half-hearted effort.

Honda's will be more car-like, but it's unchartered territory, who knows what will happen with the SUT. As long as they don't have to invest too much, it could be successful.

RL will be interesting to watch. The rear axle needs to get power in a full-size luxury car, otherwise it'll be a niche vehicle at best.

More than a little bit of Honda Pilot from the windshield back in that new Grand Cherokee.

reportedly will have a IFS, like the Liberty. They may also offer a stretch model with 3rd-row seating.

  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
It actually looks more like the Grand Cherokee from 2 generations ago, they went back to the square look. Toss on Land Rover lamps, and call it new again.

Their 4WD needs an overhaul so it doesn't whine annoyingly when cold.

They dropped AWD, though. Even though only 3% got it, DCX used to have a full line of minivans, now they don't any more.

GM also dropped AWD from their vans. Another mistake.

I'm sure Toyota will happily pick up that lost market share...

At least DCX has a spare, even though it's a donut. Sienna has run-flats.

to have an electric motor powering the rear wheels, as there is no driveshaft to worry about. That motor could be located where the rear differential would normally be.

    Bob
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
I wonder if they'd have space for the battery.

We'll see, it would certainly be better packaged than 3 driveshafts!

Someone over in the QX56 area here made a comparison between the two Nissan kissin'-cousins.

Yeah, I agree with the JGC being too little too late. It used to stand out before when upscale SUVs were still far and few in between.

I read that the Phaeton is flopping in Europe. It'll probably do the same here. People who can afford a Phaeton are not going to want to shop and deal with VW sales and service.

    Ken
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
$500 dealer incentive on Phaeton already...

I think it looks great, they just overpriced it. VW isn't leaving room for Audi above it, all this is a hang over from Piech's egotistical days at VW.

Among european brands, VW was a big loser last year, among the worst 3 in terms of lost market share.

Did I call it? I've been saying this all along. Sales down with 2 new pricey products? Uh-oh...

Just my opinion but Armada/QX56 are gross and awkward looking, especially the QX. Why such discontinuity between all three side windows? Why such ham-handed front end styling on the QX? I've seen Little Tikes vehicles with better lines.

While I'm at it, when you say the names of Infinti models to yourself, can't you hear Marvin the Martian's voice? "Oh drat, you've made me very angry, very angry indeed. I shall have to destroy you with my Inifinti QX56 explosive space modulator."

Thank you, I'll be here all week. Don't forget to tip your server.

very well done, Lark. Call me if you wanna sell those SLs!
  • fibber2fibber2 Member Posts: 3,786
I think that is a shame. As much as I like our '02 Odyssey, Beth has often mentioned that she wouldn't mind an AWD GC as a future replacement (we had owned a pretty good '97 FWD GC). Especially if some overseas quality made it into the mix.

I wouldn't have minded giving up some sidewall space in the way back to accommodate a doughnut spare. Or even consider going without (a la Sienna).

Rumor has it that for the MY05, there will be a completely new interior design as many complaints have fallen on the Infiniti's G35.

    Revamps are as follows:
    -Repositioning of power control seats
-Design and interior quality and material
-Possible redesign of front seats (extra bolstering)
-Some other goodies to be addressed (most likely the radio).
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
Whoa Loosh, that your black XT in MTM!?

G35 is where the Altima should be in terms of material quality. You can say that about a lot of Infinitis. Some Nissans are sub-par, IMO. The Z got a couple of upgrades after just a year, too.

Bring Nissan to where Infiniti is, and upgrade Infiniti's materials, that'll do.

    "tightened hose clamps causing leak"

So there you have it...the cause of the temp guage rising and the smell (yes I guess it was the antifreeze and the hot engine that I smelled). Funny though, that it only happened on that really cold day. They also filled up the coolant/antifreeze and I got them to do the 6000km service at the same time, although I only have 5000km on it. And Patti, the service manager never heard of the "conditioner coolant", so maybe that's a purely SOA thing?

Wow. Maybe by 100 you'll type slow enough for me and Pat to read...

Bob: read something interesting in C&D - remember how I thought the BMW 6 convertible's rear window shape/position was odd? Well, it turns out that rises and lowers independently from the top. When the top is down, it actually functions as a wind blocker.

Pretty clever. It still makes for an odd looking C-pillar, but I'll concede that it's functional, and therefore worth it.

Also, when we saw it, I didn't realize that the Dodge Sling Shot was a convertible, nor did I realize it was built on the Smart platform. They really, really should have shown it with the top down! Dumb!
