Craig: I bought spare bulbs for the ones at work, they cost me $290 for one model and $410 for the other.

But they actually last about 4-5 years.

The ML looks better in profile. They fine-tuned it nicely, it no longer looks so much like a minivan from the front. 7 speed automatic, too.

I bet prices creep up. I want to see the B and R classes. The B class might actually be affordable.

I saw the R class in C&D... looked pretty nice... I'd look into it too :-)

Interesting how they went to a unibody construction this time. I recall that when they first launched the model, they highlighted the fact that it was on a true ladder frame!

Hmmm. Who would have guessed that most M-Class buyers wouldn't really need chassis articulation?

Will it have a low range? The old one did. It was one of the more capable luxury utes out there. Volvo and BMW couldn't touch it off road.

I'm pretty sure they retained that feature.

looks like a good value for someone who does not need awd

Mazda is setting up shop in Mexico to sell cars, yet Subaru is still MIA. Why?

Not an attractive market for them??
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
AWD would appeal to the Baja crowd, maybe. They'd have to market it very differently, for off-road purposes instead of for snow.

I should drive a TSX. I guess it just doesn't do much for me, and I can't quite pin down why. 4 cylinder FWD, maybe? Or the rear that looks like the old Camry. Or that it's too tall/narrow looking?

Even if I tried to justify it to myself as a budget luxury car, it still requires premium fuel, which kills that angle for me.

It's a great car that I just can't excited about.

Just about every magazine loves it. Yeah, it's "classic Honda," in that it needs to be revved to get the best out of it. If you don't like that, I can certainly understand. I was was weaned on Honda bikes, so that's an aspect I love.

My Miata is like that, peak torque at 5500rpm.

I think that's OK for a sports car, but I would not want a family sedan, with a regular payload of 800+ lbs, with little low end torque. Not for that price.

a sports sedan; think classic Alfa point of view, not Fiat. The family sedan is the Accord.

I'm in "front" of the you boomers. Part of the "silent generation" I believe we're called. All you young whipper snappers, he, he......

Lots of experience with "3 on the tree", 6-volt starter systems, etc..

Ok- radio reception sucks in my car in my part of town.

    What to do:

    SAtellite radio

    or IPOD type device

    Opinions?

I don't know anything about Satellite or IPODs but I was browsing tomorrow's Best Buy ad and they had an IPOD like portable XM tuner w/ home and car kit.

Kind of pricey at $349 plus $9.99 / mo XM subscription.

drove one with my friend ( who was visiting from SoCal ). very nicely equipped for the price ( w nav, great stereo, leather for about 27k). shares a small back seat like my fxt.

very true about keeping it above 4k rpm for performance, unlike my fxt which goes right now.

    tsx has great mileage numbers.

I think if you can get past it's looks a v6 EX accord is perhaps a better choice than the TSX, unless you want something small and more sporting, of course. Then you can buy the TSX, a European Accord. ;-)

Another of the Mac faithful checking in. I think I will be buying a G5 17" iMac within the next year. My present iMac is a 600mhz G3 model (Oh, no its the Flower Power model) and I don't yet have a Superdrive to make DVD's with. I am pretty satisfied with my laptop at the present time: last years iBook 12" in the first generation with the g4. It is a great combination of reasonable speed, very small size and weight and long battery life. It is the machine I usually use for the Thurs. chat.

Neat ideas. Maybe that belongs in Future Models, if you think Subaru should incorporate some of those innovations?

I had the chance to drive my dad's TSX when we visited my parents over Thanksgiving. Overall, an excellent car that provides lots of value. It's perfect for up to a family of three. Anything beyond that and space becomes an issue.

We had the TSX loaded with five passegers (four adults + 1 toddler). It was a very snug fit and luggage space became an issue with two suitcases and a stroller. I really missed the flexibility of my GT wagon then!

yes i agree ken. friend and i went for a test drive with ( car is for him ) is single and doesnt haul much as far as people cargo go.

i tried to interest him in the STi and he couldnt stop laughing when he saw the mother of all wings and matching hood scoop. mileage numbers didnt help either.

being he lives in SoCal the need for awd is not so great.
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
Note that the Legacy wagon has more head room than the sedan, plus it just feels more open. Even the rear door has a bigger opening, making ingress/egress easier.

    Love them Wagons!

including an all-new V8 GS450h, which will reportedly give V-12 performance with V-6 fuel economy.

I bet that 450h powertrain will also eventually make its way into the Toyota Tundra and Sequioa.

Good point Dave. I bet you're right. Better still, if Toyota (Lexus) is working on a V8 hybrid, maybe the "hybrid" aspect could bolt right on to the existing Porsche V8?

    this will have to suffice.

Earlier this morning, we responded to a reported 1-car on the freeway. On arrival, found a 94 Legacy sedan that looked like it had rolled at least once, but there was no debris at the scene. Turns out this lady went broadside into the leading edge of the Jersey barrier, rolled once, and kept on driving... for another 5 miles!!

Windshield was a jigsaw puzzle, roof was partially caved, the driver's door was the only one that would still open without tools, driver's airbag had deployed, and the kicker was the enormous dent right at the passenger side B-pillar, about a foot deep into the cabin! The belly pan was bowed downward nearly scraping the pavement, yet this car was still moving at 40mph when the state patrol caught up to it. The troopers were trying to take pictures, but the flash was illuminating the fog crystals better than the car, otherwise they would have shared them with me.

Fortunately, her only injuries were minor cuts from flying glass. I suggested out of loyalty she should buy herself another Subaru, since this one saved her life! Merry Christmas, ma'am!

    Cheers!

That's incredible! She drove for another 5 miles?!?! Was she drunk, or something?

The best part of that comparison is that somehow the TMV of the Baja is $500 over invoice.

That's pretty cool news. Can you grab me a couple G5s in case I decide to get a Mac next year?

Cool Steve, I think I must have directly or indirectly purchased a few dozen of the processors! So when are we going to hit 3 GHz with the PPC970?? Steve Jobs and a head honcho from IBM promised it for summer 04 and then had to back-pedal. 2.5GHz is quite decent (especially with dual FPUs) but 3GHz has some psychological charm to it. Plus you could probably cook dinner on your tower at that point.

I hadn't checked this site in a while, but they just completed a test of Amsoil. It held up ok, but viscosity is way up. Interesting to say the least. Their initial Mobil-1 test didn't have that happen, but they will be testing M1 again in February.

at least the second time in just that group's sampling-- seems to be common.

    just use M1. :D

    ~c
  • subearusubearu Member Posts: 3,613
Yeah, I have no reason to jump ship from M1 to Amsoil. Our MPV (one of those 5w20 spec vehicles) is on 0w20 M1 now for the winter and has been noticeably easier/quicker to start than when on 5w30 M1. I'll switch back to the 5w30 in the spring.

I just rolled 5k in my XT yesterday. I had the dealer do the 3k oil change a while back. I think I'll hang on until 6k-ish and then switch the XT to M1, probably 5w-30 initially.
