We're seeing more and more 5 and 6 speeds, time for Subaru to get with the program.

But, I personally have not had any problems this morn. Please report these problems in "Ask the Hosts", as the techies do monitor that discussion.
paisan: more gears allow closer ratios, to keep an engine in its narrow power band. It can also allow for a lower 1st gear, to get started quicker, while at the same time offering a taller overdrive, for fuel efficiency.
I think GM and Ford are concerned with fuel economy. With a tall overdrive, even some 3.8l V6s can get 28mpg highway on the EPA scale, saving them CAFE fines. Even if the gear is too tall for passing (the tranny can always shift down).
Subie's H6 could us it - it likes to rev, and needs a shorter 1st gear to help it off the line.

How are the HIDs doing?

As for a new car, I'm leaning to settling for an OBS. Still haven't convince myself that a WRX is for me.
-Dave

The OBS weighs 3105 lbs. I could do without that 430 lbs unless they build me a 2.5l Turbo GT

Brenda
The Legacy L is about 3300 lbs, something like that. Get an L/SE, they're a screaming bargain (moonroof, 16"s, CD, etc).
-juice
juice: The SE is definetly a good buy.
Ken
H6: Yep I knew I loved torquey engines for more than one reason.

Nah, actually, road trip! Went to the beach again, took Sandy this time. Nice to get away from the threat of the sniper, however unlikely. I waited to get gas until after I crossed the Bay Bridge!
Filled up again before crossing on the way back. I'm not really looking forward to be a sitting target at any local gas stations. Good thing she gets good mileage, at least.
I read about Bali, too. Looks like Al Queda is linked, and at least that country will start taking terrorism more seriously now.

We told her not to stop until she was well past Richmond.
Bob
Sandy's tank is full and I hope they catch the guy before I need gas again. I'm strategically using both cars to use up all the gas already in their tanks!

Hang in there, guys.

Many after school activities such as football games are canceled until further notice. High school football players, who are counting on football scholarships are in jeopardy, in that college football scouts can't watch them play. It's really having domino effect on everyone within a 50 mile radius of Washington.

Power tools. Yum. :-)

I don't know the exact models your looking at, but Makita makes great cordless tools.
I have 14.4 drill/driver and it has outlasted my Milwaukee cordless drill already. My Dad's Dewalt died about as fast as my Milwaukee did, so I'm not real impressed with them. Actually his cheap (~$60) BD Firestorm cordless drill has done very well considering price paid.

My schedule is wide open, wanna do lunch Monday or Tuesday? Or we could make it a happy hour some where.
Wanna come, Mike? Bob? If you guys come down, we can be flexible about the time.

I hate that center pod, they are totally stupid. The Echo sells poorly so WHAT were they thinking?
It does have a accessory power delay after you remove the key, and a 5 speed auto. Some interesting features even high-end Subies still lack.

Quigley's is right above the Metro, not too much of a walk.
Szechuan Pavilion is also in the same building, in fact you don't even have to go outside at all.
Then there's El Chalan, a Chilean place, but that's a block or two walk.
You guys like Chinese? I eat at the Szechuan place every Thursday, and they've never let me down, plus it's the safest, considering.
If we can't decide, there is a big food court right there as well, we could grab whatever. They have a nice Cuban place with some good cheap eats.

-Frank P.
Juice, why don't you decide, since you're the most familiar with that area.
Bob
From the red line you get off at Metro Center, go down stairs and take the Blue or Orange towards Virginia for 2 stops.
We could even be spontaneous - meet at the Metro exit (18th street) and then go to any of the above. Or let's let Frank choose since he's the out of towner.

Still, you try to limit your exposure. It's not far though.
Edit: Frank - here is your hotel? Where is your training site?

the weather was brisk, might've reached 50-55ish. mostly cloudy and it sprinkled a bit, and of course there is always the wind in Kansas.
anyway, we drove 130 miles to Milford Lake where they had a ~600 acre off-road recreational vehicle park. there was a small "track" but it was pretty mild, no big jumps at all, and a LOT of "woods" riding in and among the hills.
we took turns on the bikes, but I mostly rode a Yamaha YZ250 (a 218lb, 43HP 2-stroke motorcrosser) and my dad mostly rode the new bike, a Honda XR650R (a 275lb, now 60HP four-stroke enduro).
neither is much of a "woods" type bike and some of these trails were pretty um, interesting with roots, large rocks, sand, small stumps, logs you name it. And hillclimbs between 45 and 60 degrees.
Going up one of said hillclimbs on the XR650, I was dismayed to find a double-jump at the top. I wasn't going fast enough to clear it, and too fast to stop at the top of this ~20' hillclimb. Result: front tire smacked the leading edge of the second "surprise!" jump, roughly bouncing the front of the bike up and , unfortunately for me, off the beaten path right into a small tree.
Being only 1.5" diameter or so, this tree was no match for 450lb of me + motorcycle, but it did pitch the bike to the right and it got away from me... still going uphill. I tumbled down to the right and hoped the bike would miss me.
No such luck-- the bike tumbled 180 degrees and the left side of it landed very heavily on top of me. It partially knocked the wind out of me but I got out from under it in a few seconds. I then thought about picking the bike up, but decided instead to just sit down and catch my breath. About a minute later, I decide nothing's broken thus I'm not hurt.
Turns out, those four-stroke dirtbikes are pretty darned hard to start if they flood. So after I pick myself up and my dad gets turned around and next to me on the trail, we each take turns trying to kick start it and after about 10 minutes I finally succeed. Kept riding for another hour or so, and then several other 30-45 minute sessions the rest of the day.
If you read this far, yes I'm fine. Sorta. If I have bad bruises maybe I'll post pics tomorrow. Don't think I cracked any ribs...
-Colin
Bruises I bet! I'm no doctor, but your self diagnosis sounds ok. A little Advil to help the soreness wouldn't hurt either.
-Brian
Wished I'd that.
