Picked up bright silver G35 with premium package Friday. The salesman gave us the "performance" demo, that was really cool. Can't go into details. Regular suspension, which seems fine for me. Love the power and the handling, the smile-factor is HUGE. What a blast to drive. The short turning radius is great. Upgraded the old radar detector to the Passport 8500, I can see tickets in my future.
I am considering buying a G35--love the performance and handling. BUT I am extremely concerned about performance in snow with RWD. Please share your experience in the snow with me!!
If you are looking at the sedan, you may get away with a spare set of rims and snow tires. If you're looking at the coupe, especially with the 8"wide 18" tires, it's just not going to work well as a winter car. The "near perfect" 52/48 weight distribution definitely works against snow. Wide tires simply will not bite down into snow. You're going to need another vehicle to drive in the snow belt Dec - March.
Got my G35C in late Jan. 6MT Blk/blk Aero Package + Premium Package- No Nav System Had clear bar installed Too soon for the XM radio. Went with after market unit-unit put in nav sys space.12,400 miles and counting. Great driving car- lots of leg room for a 6'4" person. Nice pick up and power to go. Drove from MB/SC to PA- great drive and music. love to hear from anyone near MB-SC
I purchased an '04 coupe 5A on Saturday. I pick it up on Wed. It's black/graphite with premium, wheel, aero and navigation pkgs. I test drove several before we bought, 17" wheels, 18" wheels, 5A and 6MT but can't wait to get behind the wheel of mine. Since I live in Boston I am looking into winter tires and wheels. Any recommendations appreciated.
I just picked up my 2004 G35 Sedan w/ Leather, Premium package, Wood package, trunt mat. It's Ivory Pearl/Willow. Just drove for 25 miles and it's perfect!
Just bought an '04 G35 6MT coupe in Flemington, NJ. I got it in diamond graphite/graphite with premium and aero packages. Love driving this car and the look of the interior pleases me more than various postings led me to believe I would; I chose the dark interior, by the way. I would have appreciated a little more headroom since I am 6'2", but with a little slouching all is well. The fun I am having driving this car is well worth the slouching.
Purchased an 04 G35 5A in September and have been withholding judgment until we have had time to live with it for a few miles. Currently have 2500 miles and this car is growing on us as the miles add up (my wife does the bulk of the driving on this car). So far no complaints to speak of unlike some folks on this board. Will keep an eye on the brakes though. Drove to the Smokey Mountains this past week putting a little over 900 miles on the car. Got 26.5 MPG on the interstate running 75-85 and surprisingly 20.5 MPG in 155 miles of 2nd and 3rd gear mountain driving. This is where the auto-manual feature shines. Have gotten around 22 MPG in mixed driving since new and neither of us is shy about using our right foot. It came with the Goodyears and they seem to be just fine. The Bose system is running on a steady diet of bought and burned CD's with no problems. Also, it seems to be more comfortable for me on a long drive than on a short trip. I'm 6'2 and my 5' wife does find the center armrest too far back when the seat is adjusted to her size. As far as the buying experience goes, Infiniti of Memphis was very pleasent to deal with. Good thing because there are only four Infiniti dealers in the state of Tennessee and the closest besides this one is in Franklin, a suburb of Nashville, a 3 1/2 hour drive away.
I bought my G35 in May 2002 and recently uncovered a design defect other owners will want to correct.
There is an opening under the hood near fire wall on the passenger side (under battery cover) which allows fresh air entry into the AC system. This opening is about 3" x 6". I know about this because a squirrel crawled into it, had babies, and fled. The babies dug through the cabin air filter and got into the fan housing and ductwork. They died, and the effort to eradicate them and the resulting smell is still on-going. No help from Infiniti on the cost either (they said contact my insurance).
So if you buy a G, remove the battery compartment cover, take some metal window screen mesh, and cover this opening if you don't want your new car to become a critter condo!
Hi all, I'm looking to buy a G35 in the next 3-4 weeks, and wanted some advice on options from some people who own the car. Specifically:
1) Does anyone know how the AWD is going to drive? The local dealer is claiming he'll have one the 1st week of December. We're in Texas, so snow is not an issue, but we do get some crazy rain. Wondering if anyone has heard about performance in the dry & the wet -- everything I've read just talks about things like "snow mode", which I'll never use.
2) "Sport" package - the wheels don't seem to be any different in size, the only difference is the suspension. Does anyone have any thoughts about the difference in the two suspensions? I'd like something sporty, but comfortable. Also, the sport package disallows the wood option, so if I do the sport package, I'd have to do an aftermarket wood kit.
3) Bridgestone vs. Goodyear. I've heard some bad things about the Goodyears on the G35's vs. the Bridgestones, it seems like there is a mix on the lots right now. Personally, I've always had good luck with Goodyears, and haven't had good luck with Bridgestones, but I'm hearing the opposite on this car. Any advice? It sounds like the dealer will swap those out if I ask them to.
Just 600 miles into ownership of a Black Obsidian Sedan with premium, areo, sports suspension and navigation. Had originally wanted the twilight blue, but I find myself very happy with the classic look of the black. I just love to drive this thing. Even though Michigan roads are awful, and I do feel every bump I think the extra handling and sport-car feel make the suspension choice a good one for me. I just was more road around to really push this thing and gain a true feel for what it is all about. I got it above 100mph on the empty e-way in the middle of the night and was amazed that it felt no different than going 80mph. I won't make that a feature of my driving, but it is just nice to know that it is there.
I just bought "Pearl," and I've loved every moment of ownership. I went for the performance tires and needless to say, I purchased winter tires (and rims) to get around in the snow. It's a tire made by Continental. The tires will be installed Tuesday, so I'll have details later in the week for those interested.
Hello, My name is Jason Miller from Bethlehem, PA. I've had my G35 coupe for 3 months and I'm starting to see chips in the paint on my hood, quarter panels and around the headlights. If this continues I'll be forced to repaint my car, this is ridiculous for a luxury sports car that is garage kept and sees no inclement weather. Plus, it only has 3000 miles on it!! If anyone else is experiencing this problem please contact me at jasondmiller@hotmail.com. I've filed a claim with Infiniti and apparently something won't be done until a lot of people complain about it. So if this is happening to your G35 make the call and let's get this crappy paint job taken care of!
It's affecting most manufacturers as a recently updated paint standard eliminates lead based formulas for everyone. Mercedes and BMW's recently acquired in my circle have the same issues.
My '03 G35 has the same paint issues. Normal daily use with some highway use has taken its toll on the front hood. The plastic overling the headlights has not been "treated" like some more expensive cars, resulting in pitting, haziness and discoloration of it. The service dept. admitted to the latter isssue only.
ChrisBoth: I don't have this issue with my other two late model cars, only the G.
I'm looking into geting a new G 4d w/leather, I was wondering if anyone here would mind sharing what there monthly lease payments are. I've looked at the edmunds price brackets, and found a coupe, between 300-400 w/leather and auto. I also found the price for the G AWD sedan for 465 I think or around about there... I'm hoping that just the RWD version of the G w/leather and the preamium package will be cheaper and hopefully match the coupes Gs price, with leather is 345, It would be fantastic if the sedan w/o AWD would come close to this. please I'd really appriciate it if anyone could share there lease payments, and if you don't want to post them you can always email me at Dstrange183@hotmail.com
Have you reported the paint chipping to Infiniti yet. If not, the number is 800-662-6200. They said the more people to complain about the chipping, it's more likely they'll do something about it. I'm also looking into acquiring legal council on the issue...
buy the car that has no complaints on any message boards!
Seriously, I don't think you can find a vehicle today that someone doesn't have a "problem" with in some way or another.
If you research all the possibilities (vehicles) that are in your price range, you'll probably end up right back here with the G35.
Is it perfect, absolutly not, but for a lot of enthusiasts, it's pretty close to the ideal combination of performance, comfort, and reliability at a fair price.
Just remember that people with problems complain loudly, while people that are happy with their car tend to stay quiet. Forums tend to highlight the bad in this way.
All cars are going to have problems. Shoot, the tranmission shift cable on my last car, an "uber-reliable" 92 Accord, broke, trapping the car in park. $300 in parts and labor to replace a glorified wire.
I've had problems with my G35, but if I had it to do all over again, I'd still be in the same car.
I've been watching and reading about the G since 02, and have been a happy owner since March 03. Now have 13K miles on my DP auto sedan with leather and wood, and my only complaint is that the stock tires aren't very good in snow. Fixed that with a set of Nokian WRs and am back to being a happy camper. My wife isn't terribly happy because the car is very difficult to drive like a limo(she tells everyone it is my last sports car). If you drive mostly by yourself, the occasional passenger may not understand that it is perfectly safe and natural for the G to accelerate briskly and take turns at speeds that would topple an SUV.
By the way, the service at Infiniti of Dayton is exceptional. I've had Infiniti vehicles from there since 1997 and see no reason to go anywhere else. Never had a warranty problem and always get a loaner when service is required.
Had my 1 week old G35x out in the snow today. Mostly packed snow and slush since the plows had already passed.
The AWD worked perfectly and, along with the VDC (stability control) kept the car straight and true no matter what the condition. The only slight disappointment was that the VDC was even needed, but that's likely due to the mediocre all-season tires on the car (Turanza EL42s for me).
I bought my leftover Pearl 2003 G35 a month ago and have been enjoying it quite a bit. It came with virtually all the options. I've liked the sportiness of the acceleration and the handling as well as the interior ameneties. However an incident happened yesterday that gave me an all new appreciation for my new G35. I was driving a twisty, narrow two lane back road in the rain on the way to the office, when a pick-up truck starts to slowly move out from a driveway. I honked the horn and he continued to pull out. Rather than hitting the brakes, I cut sharply around him. The G35 responded as if directly wired to my brain. I was around the problem and continuing on the road before I really realized there was a danger. I am properly impressed of its emergency handling and gaining a better appreciation of the rest of it, including the styling which I was slow to warm up to, every day. In buying the new '03 with its reduced pricing and incentive financing, the dealer made it especially easy to own. Not much buyers remorse left now. My wife is finding new excuses to take it out most every evening. Anyone wishing to contact me, about my experience so far, please do.
Did any of you spring for the dealers Paint Protectant / Sealer. The initial gut check is that it may be a rip off (or at least overpriced), but you wonder if somehow it might be a good thing to do anyway.
Got it tinted ( medium for driver and passenger and dark in the rear.) Besides protecting the interior and keeping the car coolor, it makes the car look much more elegant and stylish.
I highly recommend a tint job, especially in hot environments.
It's a glorified wax job. Wax your car at least once every 6 months.
Your gut feeling that it's overpriced is probably correct. If it's a "teflon" type protectant, then A) it's been discussed that teflon in the wax doesn't actually benefit the car at all, and you could by a bottle of the stuff for $20 yourself and apply it like a wax.
Just bought an 04, 6MT, with premium package. Great car, love it. Drives well. Some SOB dinged my car on the third day. So now I have some red paint (I am on the lookout for all red vehicles that park in my office lot) and scratches on the right door. Need to get it fixed.
By the way, just as I was leaving the dealer, I was mentioning how I wanted the Nav package too but did not have the $$s. The guy told me if I get the Nav installed later it would cost me only $1.3k instead of the 2k that one has to pay when you buy the car. He said its the same system. Anyone know much about this?
I just picked up my '05 G35x last Wednesday - Premium Package C with Nav and Wood. I've enjoyed the car so far even with all the rain we've gotten here in the Northeast this past weekend.
The car meets my expectations so far, and I'll most likely update as I go along.
I was actually surprised how much I liked the wood trim over the brushed metal look.
The only issues I've had so far is understanding the Nav system (manuals offer little help), getting more outward vision from my passenger-side mirror, and reading my radio when it's hit directly by sunlight. These are minor quirks of the car, and I'll probably grow to ignore them in a couple of weeks.
I picked up my '05 G35x 3 weeks ago. Really enjoying the car. Just installed some winter tires.
I do however notice a high pitched whining sound when driving at low speeds, that changes pitch with acceleration. Wondering if it is the alternator? Is this normal?
I replied at the other post. First of all its a sedan not a coupe. I sent an email to all 3 dealers in my area saying I wanted a 6MT, with premium and full size spare and I would pay 32K gross, i.e., inclusive of taxes etc. 2 dealers said no way and one said OK. But as you can see in my post on the buying experience forum, once I got to the dealer he was trying to sell me another car (well same car but it had 400 miles on it). And then I had to howl, shout, and yell...lol and he finally gave me what I wanted (car with only 15 miles on it) for the price I wanted.
Bought in end-Spetember 04. Desert Platinum, Black Interior, Premium Package, Sports Tuned Suspension Package, Splash Guards, Trunk Mat, Wheel Locks.
Love the car, it now has 2.3k miles on it.
Previous car was an Acura TL, 2001. Did not have enough 'panache' as the G35. The TL is more the 'Ultimate Accord' rather than a luxury car in my opinion. G35 is more avant garde.
What a blast this is to drive. Having previously driven a 1998 Explorer, (last 3 months) a 1995 Maxima (since 2000) a 1992 Maxima (from 1992 to 2000)I can tell you I am really excited.
Just picked up my 2005 G35X diamond graphite graphite interior wood trim Navigation system..picked it up for $35,600....I absoloutely love this car ...I've had it for 1 week and so far I'm very pleased with my purchase. You get so much in return for your money....Love the way the car looks inside and out..if anyone has any hesitation about purchassing the 05 do not hesitate i was shopping around and was looking at the 325i as well as the acura tl and to be quite honest looks wise and style wise this car hands down wins out........Does anyone know out there if i could play regular DVD's with my navigation system?
Hello G-35 owners. I am also planning to buy G35 in May/June. I live in NJ and because of snow I am planning on getting the AWD. I would appreciate any kind of feedback on purchase of new car as this is first time I will be purchasing a new car from dealer. Also any suggestions on handeling of AWD in snow conditions.
Comments
Thanks.
Thanks for responding. I am considering the sedan. Have you had any experience driving the sedan in the snow?
We had a lot of snow in Virginia this year and my G did just fine. I didn't install snow tires. Just the stock Bridgestones.

I live in central New Jersey, btw.
New Atlanta owner here.
Just bought an '04 G35S 6MT in Diamond Graphite/Graphite with Premium. Love the car.
