If I just push the "display" button on my car, nothing happens. I have to push and hold the "display" button for about two seconds for it to change once between the modes. Then I have to do it again to keep cycling. It's time consuming and dangerous while driving. There should be an easier way to cycle between the display modes.

This problem continues to bother me, simply because it would have been very easy to get it right and because it is distracting while driving.

I have a 2007 G35 6MT Sport and the cruise control is much more jerky and uneven than the 2003 G35 I had... mostly when coming down a slight hill. I plan to bring it up with the dealer.
  • akubikakubik Member Posts: 20
I have an 06 auto sedan, and I also find the cruise control jerky going down hill. I had a '95 Maxima before and it was much smoother. I think that the Infiniti cruise control uses the brakes to slow the car when going down hill, where as previous models probably slowed the engine. The Infinit feels as though the brakes are being pumped every few seconds.

    Hi Andrew,

I just came across your post and wanted to contact you. My friend Lisa has had this car for a few months, and experienced a major problem with sudden acceleration last night. She is going to need some body work to fix the damage. I'm helping her do some research on this to see if anyone else has experienced it. If you read this post, please e-mail me at krystin_70@yahoo.com. Anyone else who has experienced this, please contact me as well.

    Thanks.

I have a 2006 G35 sedan and having trouble with the front windows rolling down and doors locking with my keys in the car. I also have trouble with windows rolling down once I lock the car. Alarm will sound if anyone attempts to open the door without the remote. Any ideas???? I was told it was probably a bad remote sensor...
  • gooddeal2gooddeal2 Member Posts: 750
:surprise: Alarm will sound if anyone attempts to open the door without the remote. Any ideas? :surprise:

Unless you lock your car w/ the key then you might be able to use the key to unclock the car w/o waking up the alarm. If you lock your car w/ the remote, I just don't see how you can unlock the car w/ the key ONLY.

    Hi All,

Please help!! Haha. I recently purchased a new 06 coupe 6MT.

Here's the problem: After filling up the tank at the gas station, I would drive 1 mile or so back to my house. Some time later, when I need to go out again...when I start the car, the gas meter only goes up like 95%. When I start driving it for like a minute, then it goes up the whole way.

Or....after parking it at home at I'm at half tank, the next time I start the car, it will read less than half, then when I start driving for a minute, it will go back to the halfway mark where it should be when I turned the car off from the last drive. Is this a problem? Has anything experienced this?
  • hvan3hvan3 Member Posts: 630
    It's not a problem. It's quite normal.
  • robkanerobkane Member Posts: 4
I have an '07 auto sedan and I have to agree about the jerkiness. I wouldn't go as far as saying the brakes are being pumped, but whatever it is, it is noticeable.

Has anyone purchased a 2006 G35 without the Bose stereo system. I am very unhappy with this system. Any suggestions.
  • paulo6paulo6 Member Posts: 94
I have a 2006 6MT sedan with the base stereo. Can you be more specific about your concerns. Maybe I or others can shed some light. I have a few things I am not happy about either, but again, I did select the base system rather than the Bose one.
  • macman246macman246 Member Posts: 118
I'm not sure if the '06 models had the audio adjustment problem, but '04 (and '05 I think) would "forget" the base and treble settings with each restart. The display will say +5, but it wouldn't sound like +5 until you took it down to +3 and then back up to +5 each time you start the car.

My 2003.5 Bose doesn't have the problem, but newer non-Bose loaners I've gotten definitely had the problem. FM radio would sound like crap whenever I restarted the car. HTH
  • macman246macman246 Member Posts: 118
Definitely a warranty problem. One or both "fuel sender" units under the back seat are bad. I'm surprised they haven't revised the part for '06. My 2003.5 had the exact same symptoms. Lots of other people have had theirs replaced.
  • tennisguy1006tennisguy1006 Member Posts: 6
    Hey Macman246,

Even on a brand new car...the fuel sender units could be bad??

Any recommendations on how to solve the problem? Bose and the dealer have been totally worthless. Thanks.

Brought the car back for a third time and they found the right front tire was defective, so they balanced and replaced it. It still bucked at 38-39mph. Brought it back a fourth time. Took the tech for a ride and he acknowledged the bucking at 38mph. The service manager later took it for a ride and claimed "they all do that" and no work was performed. I've been getting loaner cars each time from them and it has been an 2006 Infiniti G35x and no such bucking or lurching effect is noticable. We are going the lemon law route now and I am disgusted with the incompetence and ignorance of the service people at Infiniti of Norwood, MA. I encourage anyone thinking of buying a car there to go to another dealer. By the way, now I can smell a burning rubber odor when I stop the car. What an awful car this has turned out to be.
  • macman246macman246 Member Posts: 118
I vaguely remember dealers trying to swap out headunits, but I don't think anyone had much success. Most people just re-adjust the bass and treble each time, or installed an aftermarket headunit.

Did adjusting the bass and treble help?

Don't give up, you need to file a conplant with the www.nhtsa.dot.gov online or by calling them, they will help you like you have never been help before!!!!!!!!!!!

I have the same trunk release problem with my 06 6MT. I assume that it is a software issue. It seems to happen to me when I roll into my garage, and turn off the ignition before coming to a complete stop (so the headlights don't come on - call me cheap). Occasionally, the trunk openers (inside and outside) are completely non-responsive. Like you, I have to put the key in the ignition and turn it to "on" to get the trunk to open. Of course, this causes the headlights to come on, defeating the purpose that I had in mind. If you have any more information or you've gotten a response to your post, please let me know. Thanks.

Anything's possible, but it is suspicious the fuel senders would be bad on a new car. Have you taken it in yet? What did they say?

I have an 07 G35 and was wondering if there is any way to change the 5 and 6 station memory from AM to FM. 1-4 are FM, and I would like to set the other two to FM as well. Any idea? It might be some simple thing I may have missed.
  • gooddeal2gooddeal2 Member Posts: 750
Select one of the FM stations, seek the channel you want, then you can set that new channel to the staion 5 or 6 (press and hold the station).

I would definately bring this up with the dealer, I own a 2007 6MT Sport and I have not experienced this problem.
  • tennisguy1006tennisguy1006 Member Posts: 6
    Hey MacMan246,

I took it just one time. They said that the measured the level of the gas before they turned the car off and then meausred again after and said it was the same. I don't think that's the same thing as checking the "fuel senders", am I right?
  • macman246macman246 Member Posts: 118
The gas needle will slowly fluctuate while driving, might not read full after a fill up, and/or read more than what is really in the tank. I don't think they can diagnose it by turning off the car, then restarting and checking where the needle was/is.

I vaguely remember the writeup on my work order said something about the fuel senders being constantly on or closed, so they must have tested them electronically. I'll try to remember to look it up tonight.
  • tennisguy1006tennisguy1006 Member Posts: 6
    Hey macman,

Thanks. I will wait your reply after you get a chance to checkup what your repair orders says.

    Thanks
  • macman246macman246 Member Posts: 118
Here's what it said: "Found fuel senders with open circuit. Replaced both fuel sending units."

I don't think they can determine that by looking at the needle. Good luck!

I just purchased a 2005 G35 Sedan. I LOVE the car, but it only came with one intelligent key. Called a few dealers for pricing and averaged about $125 for an additional Key and Key Fob/Remote which is OK, but they also want to charge about $150 to program the key to the car! I was told, "We have to hook up to the car and it takes about an hour". I simply don't believe that. Anyone know of a way I can program the key myself? Thanks!
  • jimlacoursejimlacourse Member Posts: 14
I purchased a 2003 Sedan and when I found out there was only one key I complained to the place where I bought it and they picked up the tab for it.
You may be able to get Fob/Remote at EBay I have seen them there in the past.
  • sprinkler13sprinkler13 Member Posts: 455
Well...I don't know about the charges for the key and the programming...BUT, I had to have my ECM computer replaced recently and they needed both keys at the same time they were going to reprogram the computer otherwise the spare key wouldn't work, and they gave me the same time estimate for actual programming as you. So, they aren't BSing you.
  • raizelgsraizelgs Member Posts: 84
I had to get a new key/FOB for my 2005 (key was stolen). New key, FOB and programming both keys was around $300. That's just what it cost.

Hi all. I have a 2005 G35x with 24,000 miles on it and went to the dealer for oil change/tire rotation. Dealer informed me that my front brake pads were down to 3/32" and needed replacement ASAP. They quoted $385 to replace the front pads. ($$!)

Is that a "normal" life for these brakes? The dealer said "15k is average". That doesn't seem right. I've never had a car's brakes last that short!

I also called around and was told by another dealer that I need to replace my rotors too. Sorry, that doesn't sound right. Everyone else experiencing this same issue? Did you use different pads when you had them replaced?

Lastly, I've never had dealers trying to push their "factory" maintenence so hard before. $450 for the "15k" and $750 for the "30k". The most disturbing part was the treatment I received from the service advisor after declining their special service. I honestly don't see anything on their services outside of a "visual inspection" - and I don't see any reason for such a premium price for so little actual work. I replace wipers, air filtes, etc myself.

(FYI - I have owned Hondas, Toyotas, and Audis in the past. None of them have ever had brake issues like this)

I own a 2005 G35 sedan and I need to replace rear brake pads soon. If I am not mistaken, 2005 G35 and G35x sedans
each have different types of brake pads. My car has about
32000 miles on it and my front pads are still okay.

If 2005 G35X has same exact type of brake pads as 2004 models, you might be able to pursuade dealer to do a
warranty work on it.(Check previous posts for 2003-2004 brake problems)

If warranty is not possible, then check other Infiniti dealers. I am in So California, sometimes I go to nearby
Nissan dealer for simple maintenance like oil change, tire
rotation, replace coolant etc. Also, some dealers have
specials on certain services, such as brake pad work,
    oil change etc.

    good luck :)

You need to find an independent service shop that specializes in Japanese cars. The labor cost at the independents is 1/2-2/3 less per hour than at the dealer. They all get their parts from the same place. It's the labor that cost so much. Dealers charge upwards of $90/hr. I know lawyers who charge less. Find a guy you can trust and never use the dealer again. I use Pacific Rim Auto in San Diego off of Mira Mesa Blvd.

Dealers will always rip you off, especially if you got a good price on the car. They make more money on over-priced service than they do selling vehicles.
  • timhooligantimhooligan Member Posts: 8
That's a great suggestion - and one I have considered. However, my area on the Wussy Coast (VA) seems to have a shortage of GOOD and reliable shops to use. There was a good one close to my house, but they sold that shop and now who-knows-what uses it.

I'm thinking the smart idea is to just get some better pads (and rotors) from TireRack.com and get those installed instead.

    Thanks for the pointers!

PS - If anyone around DC (noVA) knows a good shop, please email me!

Ok Thanks, I have already dropped off the car to have the fuel senders replaced. But originally, those bastards try to tell me that I needed to drive the car more (only 3300 miles now) to fully understand the car and for me to bring it back when I have driven it 10K miles.

I looked at them and said do you think you're talking to a 10 year old child!!! LOL. The guy who said that wasn't even the mechanicc, just an appt scheduler. He later went back and found out from the mechanice that there has been a fuel sender recall on 05 models that very well could have carried over to mine, the 06.

I am looking for an independent mechanic to take care of my 2004 G35 Sport in Nashville (Bellview). The dealer is out in Cool Springs. True they give you a car and yours comes back washed...but the prices for service are RUDE. Suggestions are welcome.
    Thanks, agm18

I am hoping that someone can help here. I am looking for a couple of things:

    1. Excellent detailer in NY/NJ area
    2. What is a good quality car cover for this 2006 g35x model? how much should i spend?
    3. I want a wind shield/guard/protector. Should I get it from the dealer?

    any suggestions is greatly appreciated
  • al_macaronial_macaroni Member Posts: 2
I'm also in the DC area, and have not found a good independent shop. I'm still looking. But in the mean time, the Annapolis Infiniti dealer does run Internet service coupons and also snail mails service and accessory coupons. For routine maintenance items, the coupons make the dealer price competitive with that of independent shops.

I just replaced my brakes on a 2005 G35x with 38k miles. The dealer quoted $350 for front pads and around $600 for new front rotors and pads.

I replaced the front on my own for around $240. I purchased ceramic pads from TireRack.com and new Nissan rotors from Pinnacle Nissan's website. Pinnacle also has good prices on factory pads. I did the install myself.

If you are not comfortable doing this, you can purchase the parts as you suggested and have an independent shop perform the install.

I have a certified I30 which is covered under a 7-year, 100,000-mile warranty. The "service engine soon" light came on the day before yesterday. I made an appointment with the Infiniti dealer yesterday and brought the car in this morning. It turned out that the oxygen sensor needs to be replaced. The dealer said that the O2 sensor itself is covered under warranty. However, in order to install the new sensor, the dealer said a new computer program has to be installed, which is NOT covered under warranty and will cost me $120. To me, it doesn't make sense at all. If it is required, shouldn't it be covered by the warranty? I suspect the dealer is just trying to squeeze some extra money out of me (in addition to the $50 deductible).

I've seen many times in Acura, BMW, and other forums that people are routinely getting free software upgrade during the warranty period, especially for first-year models. So, I thought it should be free of charge for Infiniti as well. Does Infiniti always charge customers for software upgrade even during the warranty period? Please help, thanks.

By the way, I hope it's OK to post my I30 question here since it also applies to G35.

I am in the baltimore region, I find the dealer (Nationwide) to be the best. Might cost a bit more, but free car washes and oil changes.
  • scottm123scottm123 Member Posts: 1,501
If the car is under warranty and a covered part requires replacement, Infiniti is responsible for that complete repair, minus the deductible on your particular warranty.

They're not offering you a software upgrade while you're there... they're telling you it's required for the repair.
    That's their cost, not yours.
  • tleetlee Member Posts: 44
I called the manufacturer and they told me that there is something called "long-term emission warranty" which only goes up to 80,000 miles. Since my car is over 80K miles, it is not covered. The problem I have with that is, when I bought the car, they didn't say anything about it. And it's also not mentioned in the certified pre-owned warranty. Furthermore, I don't understand why the O2 sensor is covered by the pre-owned warranty but the computer program update is not. It seems to me that both are emission related.

Anyway, since it's no use to argue with them, I just told the dealer to replace the O2 sensors without the program update. I have taken the car back from the dealer this afternoon and everything seems to be fine so far. However, I think I'll never buy another car from Infiniti. Previously, I've been thinking about buying a new G35 or M35.
  • smokey75smokey75 Member Posts: 434
I ran into this on my 2001 Nissan Pathfinder. But the ECM (including the reprogram) was covered under the 80,000 miles emission warranty and the O2 sensors were not. There was a TSB calling for the reprogram but only after the O2 sensors were replaced. I changed them myself & brought a receipt for the sensors to the dealership to prove they were changed & they then reprogrammed the ECM.... including giving me a copy of the printout from the scan tool to prove it. Be careful not getting the reprogram though. The reprogram on the Pathfinder delayed when power was sent to the rear O2 sensors to give time to burn off moisture in the exhaust. They were firing up right away previously & the moisture fried them causing rear sensors to go out prematurely. Not sure if the Infiniti reprogram is for a similar problem but if so you may end up with bad sensors again.

Just saw the post below. My 2004 Infiniti G35 coupe had the exact same problem today. It is currently running with the "Service Engine Soon" light still on. Is anyone aware of a recent Service Bulletin for this problem?

#1513 of 2447 ATC slip sensor problem by craiginnj Feb 10, 2005 (10:07 pm)
    Bookmark | Reply | E-mail Msg
FYI -- A few weeks ago my ATC light, Slip light, and Service Engine Soon light came on and the gas pedal cut out. Apparently the car went into some kind of limp home mode where the gas pedal doesn't work but the engine is overpowered enough to let you drift along at a few mph. I was afraid to turn off the car and be stranded, so I drifted 10 miles, mostly on a highway, eventually drifting up to about 40mph (I must have had a tailwind). As I got off the highway the gas pedal started to function again, and once I got home I discovered that turning off the car and restarting it cleared the problem (except for the Service Engine Soon light).

(There was a service bulletin for older G35's with that pattern of warning lights, but it didn't say anything about loss of power and limp mode.)

Anyway, my dealer checked my car today and found the error code indicated a bad sensor, which they tested and found was outputing such a weak signal that they really wanted me to have them replace it while I was there rather than risk a problem while driving again.

The hilarious thing, though, is that while I was waiting there a fellow came in with an identical 2004 G35 AWD with exactly the same problem. Only the car he was having trouble with was the dealer's loaner! It was so funny! Er, um, maybe there's a pattern here?

Just remember -- there's a good chance that you can clear the limp-home mode just by shutting off the car & restarting. If you have the problem I did, have the dealer check the error code in case it can be fixed so you don't suddenly lose all power again while you're driving along like mine did.

Hi...i just noticed a white dot(size of piece of sand) on the black rubber part where you close the door from the inside? On the power switch finisher. Its not a sratch but underneath or something. They are going to order the part to replace it. It not that big..can only tell when i look at it. should i just leave it the way it is so they don't take it apart leave everything in tact as it came from factory or have them replace it. HELP??

I own a 2005 G35 and it is approaching 30k miles. I know the service light comes on at that time and you have to take it in for them to shut it off. I checked on the price for the 30k mile service and it was astonishing to hear that a tire rotation and balance, oil change, air filter and microfiber filter change, new oil filter, transmission fluid check and bumper to bumper check was $750!! I know the car is nice and I have maintained it perfectly, but I have a hard time paying $750 for something that would cost no more than $300 at an auto shop.

Can anyone give me some recommendations or let me know from their experiences what is the best option. i want to do what's best for the car but I do not believe the dealership is any better than the firestone car care center around the corner. The guys seem nicer and more knowledgable anyways.

    I appreciate the input!
