If it makes you feel bad, then pay them some extra money - otherwise just drop it :D .

We all know there are hidden incentives, bonuses, tiered quota rewards, etc that dealers get. Their business plan is to make enough to cover expenses and make a profit without selling a new car - and anything they make there is gravy.

I don't understand why you need to understand how the dealer makes money. Do you not purchase anything from the grocery store until you understand their business model? How about Sears, Walmart, etc.? The bottom line for any business is to make a profit. You can rest assured a dealer isn't going to lose money selling you a car, and let it go at that.

I am also looking at a 2008 G35x platinum graphite w/premium pkg, nav, sport pkg sticker $40,575. What would be a good price? Or what have some of you paid for this model?
  • dwynnedwynne Member Posts: 4,018
Look up the invoice online, take off the $500 customer cash and you have a great price. Anything from that number up to invoice for the car, destination, and dealer doc/prep fee would be an acceptable price.

Does any one know what is the going sell price on a new 2007 G35 Sedan with premium, navigation and sports package in Arizona??? :shades:
  • waltazwaltaz Member Posts: 163
see the post above yours, but you should be able to get straight invoice, incl. destination, MINUS $500, then plus the dealer doc fee. And don't pay one thin dime for the dealer add-on package of tint, door guards, wheel locks, etc., and don't pay the $297 for the ZakTek paint protection. Just tell them you won't pay for those, and to white out the $297 for the ZakTek that they "hard code" on the order form. They'll agree - it's Infiniti's fiscal year-end this months and they have LOTS of cars to move. I was at Infiniti of Scottsdale today looking at EX35 colors and they were unloading a full carrier of new arrivals...to go with a zillion other cars they have on-hand.

Did you mean a left over 2007 or a 2008?

Since you should be able to get a new 08 G for invoice or less with the $500 customer cash, a left over 07 would have to be several thousand under invoice for me to even think about.

    oh, missed the 2007 there...get the '08

I wouldn't think you would want to pay more than 29k for this car. Even Carmax has examples with <10k miles for under 30 grand, and they tend to ask near full market value, so this should be a good indicator. If you go on there right now, they have one G37 with 8k miles for like 36 grand, while 07s are going for 28g with similar mileage. The 07 coupe is a sweet car, no doubt about it. But the market is showing you should get a substantial discount such as 8000 or maybe try for even more off the original msrp.

I would know, I bought a leftover 07 back in September but only got about 4500 off at that time. I really like the car and honestly it offers all of the performance of the 08, maybe even slightly sharper handling at the cost of higher road noise. But now realize I could have gotten an 08 for nearly the same monthly payment and had the fresh model with all the improvements, given the good lease rates right now. The performance hindrance of the new coupe is the extra 200-300 lbs it has gained. That nearly offsets the impressive punch of the 3.7 motor! It would be nice to get the 3.7 motor punch in a 350Z which weighs about 400 lbs less. There is talk of a new Z coming out soon with a little less bulk and more refinement. Also talk of the 3.7 finding itself into the G sedan which weighs 200 lbs less than the coupe.

Still must decide between three DIFFERENT cars -- all that I like Lexus GS350, Cadillac CTS (with blue tooth added, giving me separate screen), or Infiniti G35. Then, must decide whether to buy or lease. Incidentally, Lexus has best mileage, but Cadillac uses regular gas. I currently have BMW 530i.
Anyway, for GS350, G35, and CTS, could you please provide:
    (1) Target deal relative to invoice+destination (and any rebate)
    (2) If buy, available finance rates
    (3) If lease, money factor or interest for 24mo, 36 mo for 12K, 15K annually
Thank you for this information. I'll also put on other forums, in case you guys see that first.
    Thank you!

For 3 cars I mentioned, any better lease MF or interest rates for multiple security deposits.

Last night I purchased a Platinum Graphite 2008 G35 Journey with premium package, performance tire and wheel package, wood trim, and trunk cargo net. The final price was invoice plus tax, license, registration fees, etc. minus the $500 rebate (for using their 1.9% financing). I am in So Cali and the out the door price (not including estimated interest on the financing) was $35,737.43.

It didn't take much haggling (almost closing time). All in all, a fair price for an awesome car!

Thanks to everyone on this forum for all the tips...I thought this car was too high in demand to get under invoice, but I guess not.

    Nice...that's what Infiniti's fiscal year-end will do...
  • mcgreenxmcgreenx Member Posts: 179
This is what the cash rebate offer says here (for NE Illinois): http://www.edmunds.com/new/2008/infiniti/g35/100943788/incentives.html?vdp=off&s- etzip=60035&state=IL

$500 Cash to Customer start: 02/29/2008 end: 03/31/2008

Restrictions: Conquest bonus cash is available to current registered owners of a Non-Infiniti vehicle. Offer is good towards the purchase or lease of eligible vehicles.

Comments: Dealer participation may vary. Incentives and Rebates are provided subject to the terms of our Visitor Agreement.

It doesn't say it isn't, but are both the 1.9/2.9% financing AND the cash rebate available?
  • luvmygluvmyg Member Posts: 2
That's what I got last night...$500 rebate plus 1.9% financing for 36 months.
  • bmajikbmajik Member Posts: 14
"it's Infiniti's fiscal year-end this months and they have LOTS of cars to move"

Not so fast! Once a vehicle is ordered or delivered to the dealer from the factory the manufacturer considers it sold. You must also know that the dealerships are separate entities and do not necessarily have the same fiscal year end as the manufacturer.
  • dwynnedwynne Member Posts: 4,018
For the purposes of monthly sales as reported by the car makers, only cars delivered to CUSTOMERS count as sold cars. Delivery to the DEALER means nothing, except maybe the clock is running on the free floor plan from the manufacturer.

The dealers make big money in the service department and in disposing of used car trade-ins, either by auction or on their own lots. The real value of a used car is somewhat mysterious ... there are guidelines but no solid data upon which to base a price. When I bought my wife's GX470 they gave me a fair $7K trade-in on her ten year old Grand Cherokee w/ 60K miles (after discounting the Lexus). They gave it a bath and put it on their lot for $12,500 and it sold within a few days, obviously not for $12.5K but certainly a whole lot more than the $7K they had in it. $10K? That would be a 42% return in a few days. Nice work if you can get it! Bart :shades:

When did the recent G35 price increase take effect?
  • dwynnedwynne Member Posts: 4,018
Feb 1 the new prices went into effect. On cars produced (or perhaps delivered to the dealer) before that data have the old prices. It is up to $250 per car higher, so the average non-full-loaded example may have gone up less than $200.

:) Thank you guys for all of your advise. I purchased a 2008 G35 Sports with premium and navigation packages. Sell Price $34,874.00 and got $18,100.00 for my 2007 honda civic SI. The car so far has met all my expectations!!!! Waiting to break in the car before I check how it handles over 60 mph...

Hi guys, i just got this offer from my local dealership. I dont know if it is good or not, any advice would be highly appreciated.

Okay, The MSRP for 2008 G37,6MT, Black/Graphite, premium package, navigation package and illuminated kick plates is $42,575. The offer we can give you is $39,130.19 for a savings of $3444.81.
I based $5,000 down on both lease and finance:
$5,000 down, lease at 42 months, 15k miles per year=$392.00 plus tax per month(I'm thinking Seattle is 9.1%=$426.00
$5,000 down, finance 2.9% at 60 months, $682.00 per month. Your bank might be able to offer you a really low interest rate at 72 or 84 months if you choose to lower your payment and extend your term.
if you come down here, I'll give you your choice of all-weather Infiniti floor mats ($100.00 value)or a coupon book with 2 free oil changes and discounts off detail services, parts, etc..

is this a good deal? ok deal? bad deal? THANKS GUYS

And o yeah, should i opt for the tech package (what should i expect from that? Do i really need it?)
  • waltazwaltaz Member Posts: 163
Holy cow...I can't speak to the deal on the G37 - let the guys who know the G37 numbers answer that - but in no way should you put down $5K on a lease! If you lease, roll everything in and take that down payment money to establish a lease payment fund. Cash is king! Don't part with it upfront on a lease.

I just bought a platinum graphite G35x w/premium, tire wheel pkg, nav and splash guards. Got it for $37,400 w/remote starter included in price. After rebate it came to $36,900. Also got the 2.9% for 60 months. So I got it for $250 above invoice. I wanted the car. I could of haggled over a $200 more dollars. I'm glad I got it. Way more fun to drive than my 2004 4runner limited V6.

I'm finally making the move to purchase a G35 Journey with the Premium package (decided not to pay for the nav package). I'm getting quotes from different dealers but so far they are high. I'm getting quotes of $1500 - $1800 above invoice (including their doc fees) (before the $500 rebate). The $1500 price was from a sales manager from a different town and the $1800 is from the internet sales department of another out of town dealer. They are more than $1000 over what I would like to pay. I'm still waiting for my local dealer to get back to me. They don't appear to be as hungry for a sale as I thought.

Any suggestions for motivating the dealers to lower prices? The out of town sales manager said he wouldn't make money if he sold cars at or below invoice. I bawked, but he went on about his 'costs'. I sent an offer price (below invoice with rebate) to the internet sales dealer first, but it didn't help.

Would I be better off using a buying program such as AAA or Costco? I'm not a Costco member but could change that easily if I knew it was worthwhile. The Costco call center would only say the savings would be between MSRP and invoice (not useful). Anybody know what to expect for savings if using Costco? I'm in NC. Costco does have a dealer in Greensboro in their program.
  • loudog2loudog2 Member Posts: 83
Give them your price. Say this is what i'll pay. If you agree I'll buy it right now. That usually will light a little fire under their butts.

One of my friends sells cars. He said salesmen are trying to get more for the cars, since then don't sell as many as they were(bad economy). Did you try going to one of the larger dealers. They usually are the ones who want to get rid of inventory faster.

Hi, the offer I have for a G35X with Prem, Nav, Wood, Mats, Net is $37,060 and I am yet to bring up the $500 rebate discussion which would bring it downt o $36,560. Thoughts?

Do Infiniti dealers charge bogus fees after agreement on the sales price? What should I be looking for?
  • jeffmo2334jeffmo2334 Member Posts: 23
When soliciting offers, I always make sure they are explicitly clear on the full details of the offer. I ask for an "out the door" price offer, then broken down and itemized by:

    1. Selling price of car
    2. taxes
    3. License fees, etc.
    4. Any dealer fees
    5. Any incentives ($500 rebate).

Otherwise, they can do things like include the rebate in their offer, when you expect to get $500 more off, or to add some $400 dealer prep fee or some other bogus charge.

That way, you know you are comparing apples to apples when you consider offers from different dealerships.

90% of the dealerships I have dealt with are willing to do that -- some initially don't but will provide the information when I press them for it.

    I hope that helps.
  • dwynnedwynne Member Posts: 4,018
The dealer knows about the customer cash and has figured that into their quote, most likely. No need to play any games with it - seems like you want them to give you their best price then you can just tack on the $500 on top of that. They know about the $500 and have figured it in, so just ask them about it and they will tell you for sure one way or the other. You want to be at invoice of less when you count in the $500 rebate and the dealer's doc or prep fee.

Speaking of the dealer's fees, it is a good idea to get that out of the way up front as well. Just ask each dealer for a quote that includes the car, destination, and any dealer doc/prep fees - and less the $500 customer cash. If you are specific then you can compare various dealer quotes accurately and decide on your next step.

Some car dealers to all kinds of things to try to make extra money - doc or prep fees, "business" or "gross receipts" taxes that are charged to the buyer, forgetting to include destination charge in their quotes, etc. I am sure there are Infiniti dealers that operate that way and I am sure there are many that do not. You just have to ask them up front and make sure what they are including. If you get to the dealership to take them up on their offer and find they "forgot" things or are adding stuff to the deal just walk out and go with another dealer.

I have been waiting for the dealers to come down in the Dallas/Houston area. I have a gotten a couple of calls this week so far with a quotes for $36,500 (Houston) and ($36,773) Dallas OTD prices TTL , rebates and incentives. Niether dealer have given me the qoute in writing (fax or emai). Is these good prices for using the VPP Plan D?

    G35 Journey
    Premium/Nav System
    cargo net/splash guard
    Black exterior/interior
  • dwynnedwynne Member Posts: 4,018
If you have a VPP claim code then there is no negotiation or haggling (and no "waiting for the dealers to come down"). You price will be < $300 over invoice then less the $500 incentive plus any dealer doc or prep fees and dealer installed options. That is a nice price, but in many areas of the country folks are able to negotiate lower prices w/o the VPP code.

You have to either choose to try to negotiate a better price or just present your VPP code. Once they find out you have VPP they will not bother with trying to make you a deal, since they would prefer to just honor the VPP price.

Find the dealer with little or no doc/prep fees and no accessory add-ons and use your VPP claim code. That would make for a nice deal with little work on your part.

I got my G35X Sport back in December using the partner employee pricing plans for about $300 over invoice. Costco pricing varies per dealer, but I have seen ranges from $100 to $500 over Invoice in the NYC Metro Area. Hope that helps. So, the Costco membership could pay for itself immediately if the dealers in your area offer prices in this range.

Thanks to all for sharing their buying experiences...picking up my new toy tomorrow morning. I am jacked! Here's the rundown:

    G35 AWD
    Premium
    Sport
    SpGds/Mat/Net/Etc

    MSRP = 38850
    Price = Invoice minus $500 -- just under $35K

SM passed the rebate along to me in hopes of creating a new, long term customer. I think he will get what he wanted. I will be back for my wife's next vehicle.

OTD only included "normal" doc & title fees..no bs.

    Dealer - Fields (Chicago)

Salesperson specializes in G35...nice guy...really knows his stuff...

I was securing the vechicle with the specs that we wanted yesterday over the phone with $500.00 down on cc. I live in the Dallas/FT Worth area and the dealership is in Austin. About 10 minutes after we gave the sales person the cc info we got a call back that the vehicle was already sold (they were getting it from another location). We were offered several options but said no. The dealerships in my area said the specs we wanted had to be order and Austin would not be able to deliver prior to this. The dealer apoligized and said we could get the vehicle in April for the same price and at 2.9% interest rate. The price OT :confuse: D $36,908. The delivery is free to Arlington. Should I go ahead and fax my credit application now and get everything in writing or wait until April and see what incentives and/or rebates are offered.

I live in Austin and also almost bought a G from the Austin dealer. Similar thing, they had to get the one I wanted from another dealer. I ended up declining because the other dealer added Lojack and some other mop and glow junk that the Austin dealer was then going to make me pay for. I determined that it's better to deal with the people who actually have the car you're looking for.

And also, if the Austin dealer has to get the car from somewhere else, why can't your dealer in Dallas do that? I can't believe you'd get a better price in Austin than a bigger market like Dallas.

Car to buy? a pretty loaded G35:
G35 Journey (Auto so my wife can drive it!)
    Premium Pack
    Sport Pack
    Nav System
    Tech Pack
plus whatever Nissan will force you buy (Mats, Cargo Nets, Splash Guard, etc).

Trade in: 1999 Toyota Sienna LE with 124K miles.

Dealer visited: Infiniti Crest, in Plano TX.
    Sales Rep: Leasing Manger.

My Experience: As soon as I approached the dealer, someone offered his assistance. I thanked him and and I was left alone to browse the car inventory and check the new cars in the showroom. Then, when I am done, I stopped by the sales manger and asked for assistance. Available sales Reps were paged and the Leasing Manager took over.

The L Mgr started questioning me what car I am interested in. So, I explained that I am looking for G35 with the above packages . He started his search on his computer and each time he could not find what I want in his inventory, he tried to steer me away from that package. He was a bit pushy and annoying. Since, he did not have any Premium with Sport Pack, he goes what in this package that do you like? How about Wheel and tires Pack? I insisted that I like Sport Pack. So, he moved to find the color combo. I asked for Graphite/Graphite he tried to put in in Blue Slate/Graphite (which is Okay but not my first choice). Then, when I asked for Tech Pack, he said that to get it he has to swap it from California and I have to pay $1200 for Transpo fee. Again, trying push me in car of not my choice but his.

Then, he offered a test drive in G35 Journey/Sport (A Demo with one of the managers. It had 1800 miles). We went for like 15 mins on back roads to test road handling and short acceleration stints. I was bit impressed with available torque and road handling. It was a bit stiff on bumpy roads but this is expected. It did not have Nav to try it.

Back to the dealer, Now, the car that he tried to sell me is G35 with:

    Premium Package
    Infiniti Navigation Packag
    Sport Package
    Painted Splash Guards
    Trunk Mat
    Trunk Cargo Net
    MSRP: $39,625
    INVOICE: $36,089

And now it is time to talk numbers. Back from his Sales Manager desk He came with his Magic Numbers. I was offered $3k for my trade and I expected $5k. I asked about a Rebate, and he claimed he is not sure and has to check with his manager.

With VPP Plan D, I was offered $37K. I passed since I know they can do better. I skimmed at the financing numbers and decided to cut it short since the financing rate would be 2.9% anyways. He asked where I would like to be? and I offered $34k + Tax + Tags + and Title Fees. I added he can exclude the trade-in if he is not interested. He resisted my offer and said no way I can buy such car at this price. I mentioned that online research indicated at or below invoice minus rebate. Then, when I tried to leave he followed me to the front door and offered to sell at invoice.

Finally, he asked make an offer to buy. I said $34K for the above car, and $35k if Tech Pack is included. I added, Monday is the 31st of March and you can have 1 more car sold. I left with a feeling that I will be contacted next Monday.

I had in mind to get $5k from my car, put down ~$7k ($5k and, $2k tax+fees) and finance like $24k-$25k at 2.9% for 60 months and the monthly payment will around $450. With no trade in, I can still the put down the additional $5k

    Fair enough?

Yesterday, I went to Infinity dealer (I'll withhold name for now) to price a G37. I have 3 mos remaining on a MB CLK 320 lease @$610. Lease price quoted for G37 w/premium. nav and sport pkg was $599/mo for 39 mos,12k miles. $1800 down. They apparently only took 1k off MSRP. and were reluctant to divulge money factor. They would pay the 3 remaining mos of my MB. Considering I'm paying 610 for a car with MSRP of about 8k more than the Infiniti, I though the deal was terrible and left to enjoy the sun. I was expecting a monthly of about $540. Opinions?

  • kobayashikobayashi Member Posts: 50
The second a dealer "refuses to divulge the money factor" is the time to get up and leave. If you simply talk payments and how much down you need, you will make a salesperson very happy as they later discuss how easy it was to take your money when they have drinks with their friends. Work the car price (starting at invoice) then get the lease particulars from the dealer and calculate the payment.

Has anything been leaked out about if the $500 rebate will be extended past March? has any other incentives been leaked?
  • mickylongmickylong Member Posts: 29
As a point of reference, I received the following email quote from a dealer in Atlanta today:
    G37 Auto
    Premium pkg.
    Nav. Pkg.
    Premium Wheels and Tires
    Cargo net
    MSRP= $42,075
    Net Price = $38,385
    Lease terms:
    36 months
    12K miles/yr
    Cash at signing = 1164.46
    Monthly= $492.57 plus tax

Might be able to do better once negotiations really start but this already looks very attractive compared to what you received. Not sure if there are more available in Southeast or this is typical.

Hopefully you can use this in negotiating. BTW, dealer said he had at leaset five in inventory currently with this configuration.

I tried to get a last day of the month deal.

MSRP for 2008 G35xS with NAV, Prem, Net, and Splash Grds. $40,825
    Offer was $39,035.17
    Add $250 Doc Fee
    Tax $2672.20
    License $30.50
    Less Rebate $500
    Amount Financed $41,470.62

Dealer also agreed to cut me a check for $1150 to pay-off my current lease. I would continue to keep the car.

    I said, "NO DEAL!"

So I wanted to see how others thought I did on the price, I think I did fairly well. I got a 2008 G35x, Premium Package, Splash Guards, and Wood. Which from what I have found is a sticker price of $37,965 and a invoice price of $34,478. I got it for $34,329, which comes to $149 below invoice! I do have to pay a $199 doc fee on top of that, but still that is good, right? :surprise: It was the last day of the months as well, maybe that helped. FYI, it was a dealer in NJ. Oh, and what is this $500 rebate everyone is talking about?

Well I am finally pulling the trigger on a new G35xS but could not buy it before the end of the month since I am currently out of town. Will get back on friday and plan to buy then. Anyone know of any incentives or rebates for April?

Kinda bummed that I missed out on the 2.9% financing and the $500 rebate. Should I wait it out a few more months to see if any incentives come up? Or should I wait till the end of the month? I figure the beginning of the month is just as good since the delearships need to get sales rolling.

    Any input would help, Thanks

By the way mzancz, sounds like a heck of a deal. I would be very very happy to end up with deal like that.

I would wait to see what the April incentives are, and wait a few weeks in April.

After visiting all the local fair. I finally found the professionals in the area. Picked up my G35X, Premium, Splash guards with trunk cargo net today. Out of the area dealers Infiniti of Willow Grove just kicked the other dealers [non-permissible content removed]. What a great experience I had from sales through finance. All went very well eventhough the car was delivered with a scratched bumper. They pushed me for a delayed delivery so they could make the car perfect but due to time constraints I had to take delivery. Took delivery @ invoice minus the conquest bonus. So I bought the car at $500 below invoice and recieved a reasonable amount for my trade. Okay so I caved on the $55 doc fee so I walked @ $450 below invoice. Incredibly thoughtful dealership. On another note watch out for the "I'll tell you anything you want to hear professionals" around Villanova. The couple behind me were in vocal warfare with the finance guy scrambling there lease. I walked out in less than 20min. I love this rocket and must now keep a keen eye out for the man. Cheers!
