I feel pretty good about the deal, what do you think? Also, almost all dealers that I dealt with were willing to trade around the invoice price(in NJ)... is this something that is common nowadays(with the recession and all)?
Meanwhile, one thing seems certain — if also painful — for the months ahead: higher levels of incentive spending. All the major OEMs but Chrysler held fairly steady against the temptation to offer blowout incentives in March. But, Toprak noted, “incentive spending has reached $2,500 per vehicle, and it should continue to increase until July, breaking past record incentive spending in 2004.”
Wonder if any of this will make its way to the G37 in the form of cash back or lease incentives? The same report mentioned that overall G35 sales were flat last querter but coupe sales were double last year sales.
Keeping fingers crossed as I start to play the "when should I commit" game.
I agree 100%. If a dealer will not give you the lease residual and money factor over the phone or via e-mail, I would not even bother to go onto that dealer's lot. If they are not willing to be up front with the customer about these things it is probably because they have something to hide (like they are jacking up the rates for extra profit).

I love how these automakers are making this "daily sales increase" claim for March. Since there were fewer selling days in the prior Month (February) some are saying that "Daily sales were up for March compared to February". They take the Feb number / 29 and compare to March / 31 and see the same or larger average and crow about it. In some cases it is just them burying their heads in the sand

Whos your guy at Pinnacle? You got a G35X? What about the Journey Edition?
Thanks.

Our G is a G35 Journey w/Premium in Platinum Graphite/Stone. No Nav because my wife drives it and she doesn't use it/like it.
I bought a 2008 G35 Sport Sedan a month ago. Here are the details:
2008 G35 Journey AT Sport
Garnet Ember
Prem/Nav/Sport/Spolier/Splash Guards
MSRP: $40,100. Bought @ 36,300 plus taxes, license, and registration.
I got the $500 rebate also.
$10K cash downpayment, financed the rest at 2.9%.
Total price of ownership = $41K (including the financing)
I'm in SoCal.. los angeles.. and the car was up in NorCal (infiniti of pleasanton).. so had to pay for portion of the shipping fees from Pleasanton to Santa Monica (the dealer I bought it through). If i didn't have to pay for portion of the shipping, my purchase price would be $36K even plus tax/lic/reg. The dealer wanted to get something out of my purchase too since this was such a special hard find.
The Garnet Ember is so damn sexy.. it was hard to find this color everywhere till i got lucky and the Infiniti of Santa Monica Internet Sales/Fleet Manager found this car for me in Pleasanton. We found the car the same exact day it arrived at the Pleasanton dealer all wrapped up in plastic, manufactured in Feb 2008. And, then the rest was history.
It had 8.3 miles on it when I first touched it. Not a single buyer test drove it since I already had my name on it when it barely just arrived at the dealer, it was only test driven by the service department at pleasanton. It's a sweet @$$ car... I'm loving it more day by day! It's my first brand new car and luxury too. I'm so extra careful about everything, especially parking far away from most cars in dingless parking spots. haha...
All in all, I have to wait 5-6 days to finally take delivery.. but it was so worth the wait. I got so lucky with this coz I found the exact configuration I wanted in terms of options and most importantly the color I wanted so bad. Anyway, let me know what you guys think of my deal.

The deal could not have been easier - made them the offer via their website once I found the vehicle I wanted. They accepted, I faxed the credit app, then picked up the car after 20 minutes of doc signing, etc (and a minor push by the finance manger for Lojack, etc but not bad). Very smooth deal - good internet department at this dealership. I wish I could have done this last month and got the $500 rebate, but I was happy to get the car at invoice.
I like the car so far - the technology contained in the nav/audio system is amazing. iPod interface works perfect. I'm coming over from a BMW 328i. While the BMW did seem to be put together better, and felt just a tad better, the Infiniti is really nice. Especially for the money. A similar equipped 335ix would have cost me about $10,000 more. I really don't think you can beat the G35 in terms of value with it's competitors.
I got my G37 on VPP pricing and used a dealer that has $0 doc fee so my price was about $300 over invoice less the $500 in customer cash that was available at that time.
So I would find a dealer with little or no doc fee and see how low you can get the price on your own, if you can't get to $300 over then hit them with your VPP claim code.
The web page with the formula for figuring the exact amount and other info is here, at this link.
Dennis
In some states the fee is regulated in other states (like mine) it is not. So if you have a VPP claim code you should hunt around for a dealer in your area that has little or no fee - which should net you the best price.
My local dealer adds over $1k of dealer options to every car before they are offered for sale, they have a near $500 doc fee, and they mark up the lease rates. You can't get a good deal there with or without a VPP code.
Dennis
$10 extra for the navi is fantastic!
One thing that did enter into my decision was the Internet Sales Mgr./Sales rep at the dealership. Great guy to deal with. Honest and straightforward throughout the process, answered every question quickly and honestly. Even met me on Sunday although the dealership was actually closed to let me do a final drive when I told him my schedule was tight.
I know this forum saved me a bunch of cash (and untold hassle) on this transaction. Thanks again!

I must say I'm blown away with the power, ride and comfort so far (although I am coming out of a BMW Z4 roadster so comparison especially on ride comfort isn't exactly fair). Also the level of technology built into this thing is incredible. It will take the better part of the weekend I'm sure to go through the manuals to find ALL of the possibilities. My wife was particularly impressed that you can have the nav system bark at you when you arrive home to emulate the waiting dog. I think that might be over the top a bit but still fun.
I posted a link a few weeks back to PDF copies of the owner's manual, Nav / stereo, and maintenance schedule. If you don't find them, let me know and I can find the link again.
It IS a shame that my giant "bag" for all these books will not fit in the glove box in the car - poor planning.
In your printed manual there may be lots of voice commands listed that no longer work (unless you got an early production G), the newer version of the PDF has those removed.

To help others who might be purchasing a G35 in NC, I'll give the prices offered from several dealers. Since NC does not have very many dealers, I couldn't find a deal at invoice although I came close. I also purchased the vehicle with cash and no trade so the dealer couldn't make money on financing or a low trade price. I didn't buy an extended warranty either. Here are the prices relative to invoice.
Modern Infiniti (Greensboro): $939 + $500 doc fee
Lake Norman Infiniti (Charlotte): $1099 + $599 doc fee
Charlotte Infiniti (Matthews): $956 + $500 doc fee
Crossroads Infiniti (Raleigh (local): $583 + $399 doc fee
Crossroads Infiniti clearly had the best deal. They are local, and I waited to deal with them last after I had worked best prices by phone with the other dealers. The local dealer quickly recognized that they needed to deal and gave me a great price on the first round. It helped that I was only 4 days from the end of the month, too.
Since I purchased before the end of March, I received a $500 rebate off of the price listed above which put me very close to invoice before the doc fee.
I was very willing to drive to Greensboro if Raleigh was unwilling to deal. I told them that I wanted $500 over invoice but wouldn't tell them the prices from the other dealers (they would just match it). They gave me a price which they said was $500 over invoice but was more like $583. The difference was so small I didn't want to argue. There could have been differences in the invoice prices anyway. One of the other dealers said there had been another price increase in March. In the end, it was close enough, and I was very happy.
The G35 has been wonderful to drive. I look forward to my commute to work now.

Another thing, dealer said they don't offer a 24mos/10k lease, but doesn't IFS increase the residual percentage by 1% for lowering your mileage? :confuse: i.e. 12k would be 71%, 10k would be 72%
I've got an appointment set up for Saturday, so I should be turning my 2005 Pathfinder lease in and driving out with the G37! :shades:
I'd love to know your thoughts and any answers to my questions!
Thanks!!
Did I miss something or did you post what you are paying for the car (which is the most important part) ? You also should get a 36/30k lease quote and see how that compares to 24/24k.
Dennis
Gross Cap Cost: $38,424
Second question, I have 5 payments left on my lease. Haven't addressed that yet with the dealer because I wanted to get the best price on the car before they started factoring that in. :surprise:
Is it possible for them to write a check for at least 2 of my payments and roll the remaining 3 into my new lease? I'm not quite sure how to approach this one with the dealer.
And, do I need to ask them for this offer in writing? I'd hate to go to the dealer and it changes. Thanks!!
If you bargain down to or near invoice, there is no money left to pay off your old lease - so that will be up to you. Either you write the check or roll the negative equity into the current deal - neither is a good deal. What *I* would do is simply wait for the current lease to be over and turn it in, then worry about a new car. Even if the rates are higher at that time it will be FAR cheaper than paying 5 extra lease payments. Say your current lease is $450 a month, that is trowing away $2,250 to get out of the car early. No way would a deal 5 months from now be that much worse.
You can see what you current car is worth on trade compared to its current buy out price. If your car has held value well, you may can get the dealer to buy it from the lease bank for the buy out price (or even more for money in your pocket). If not, it may be cheaper to sell them the car and pay a little into it to make the numbers work. Paying lease payments includes interest and usually sales tax and the total of the payments may be more than the cash you need to make up the difference between what it is worth and the buy out. If you car is not worth even close to buyout, you either have to just keep it or pay the last payments one way or the other.
If you decide to do the deal now, if the dealer does not buy your trade, then do not turn it in now. Keep driving it, you are paying for it. There can also be extra fees for doing an early turn in above just the last 5 payments.
Dennis
The dealer had no problem accepting my price. But, another dealer said that price was way too low and to jump on the car if it was real. (Don't know if they were just trying to call my bluff and get me scared)
In regard to my Pathfinder, I'm currently 1,300 miles over my allowance, so I'm basically driving a taxi! I called NMAC and there is no charge to get out of my lease early. I just have to pay the remaining payments. The dealer said they could work something out to pay some of the payments and roll the remaining payments into my new lease. I'm only looking to get out of the Pathfinder early because I'm over on miles. If I wait for my lease to end in September, I'll probably be coming out of pocket for excess mileage about $1,700.
Shyla
Check the Edmunds, KBB, etc trade value for the Pathfinder and compare to the buyout price (get NMAC to give you the current buyout price w/o tax). If they say it is $15k (for example) and trade value is $14.5k (for example) then make the dealer buy it (rather than turn it in) since then it only costs you $500 rather than 5 payments.
Dennis
Edmunds and Carsdirect are $37,781 and $38,198, respectively. The price he is selling it for is $37,824.\
I looked up the value on the Pathfinder and it's $17,425 on KBB, $19,092 on Edmunds. My buyout is $21,767.71, so I guess I don't have much room to bargain there. The suggested retail is around $22K to $23K, but that's still no incentive really for them to buy it out.
Guess my only option is to roll the payments?
Getting in the G37 will make me feel a LOT better though! :P
This is what we settled on....
$492.00 lease payt
$709 cash due (1st mo + DMV fees)
plus they are giving me a check for $500
The cost of vehicle was close to $38,000 with everything included except nav.
cap cost was $34, 700 (approx)
I never like to put $$ down on vehicles to lower monthly payts since you lose that money if you totalled the car the next day.
JO
Actually, you can take the MSRP of the car in question - or take the residual and figure the MSRP and it will match either the number at Edmunds or carsdirect.com then you will know the right invoice.
Is the $21k number the current buy out or the residual on the lease? The current buyout should be 5 payments of principle and taxes cheaper than the end of lease price. In any case, it sounds like there is too much difference in the prices to make it work.
What you could do is pick some number between $0 and 5 payments, take that off the buy out price and ask for dealer to give that to you to buy the Nissan. So if 5 payments is $2,500 then ask them to give you $1,500 less than the buyout for it (and you make up the difference or roll it into the new deal). Since they can retail the Nissan, they may be willing to do it to move another G.
How much are the over mile fees on your lease and how many might you be over at lease end? That might still be less money than paying all the payments.
Be sure to get enough miles on the new lease, whenever you do it. Be over miles limits your options and kills the value on the car - making it expensive to return or hard to sell if you need out early.
Dennis
I was able to negotiate down to invoice price before having to pay about $500 for "doc" and misc.fees that I paid at deal signing.. So the dealer made their money in that. BTW, I had two payments left on my current car and decided to pull the trigger on the G37 anyway so I could get the color I wanted. Probably a bit more prudent to wait two months, but I sure enjoy the Infiniti.
Based on the residual they gave me, I factored the MSRP to be $45,197. They could have been using a 75% residual instead of the 71% I used, and that would figure closer to your number.
What did you do with your remaining two payments? Did dealer just write you a check?
Shyla
I will try to negotiate at least 3 payments ($1200) to be paid by dealer. The remaining $910 can be rolled into the new lease. Does this sound like a fair deal?
With the new lease, it will be garaged M-F and only driven on weekends. I'm moving to the city in September, so it will be a car driven for pleasure only.
On the last lease, I got it while in SC, and had a few trips between SC and NYC I made. Between that and trips to Maine (since I had the largest vehicle, it was always the car of choice for road trips) I racked up miles quick! This time, I've got basically a 2 seater that no more than one person can ride in! :P
Thanks for all of your help. I'm going into the dealer tomorrow afternoon. If all goes well, I should be driving away with my G37!
I was thinking of the Blue Slate, but feel like I've been seeing a lot of that color on the road. Anyone seen a lot of black G37s on the road?
Shyla
