Well, I'm going in to the dealer this afternoon. I already mentioned my current lease, and I'm going to offer they cut me a check for $1200 and I'll pay the remaining $910 on my own.

Good point about paying interest twice, forgot about that. I'll definitely try to see if they'll cut me a check, but try not to roll any payments into the new lease.

Congrats on your new car!! I can't wait to take my baby on the road. :D

    G35x with:

Nav, premium pkg, wood trim, cargo net, mud flaps, wheel locks

    MSRP: 40,334
    Invoice: 36,806
My price: 37,000 + $249 doc fee + tax and registration

    How did I do?
  • dwynnedwynne Member Posts: 4,018
That is decent, you are within $500 of invoice and there is no customer cash right now. Prices can be regional - what is good in MY area may not be as good as some others post here. So in some locations your price may not be "great" while others folks may not be able to even match your price.

You got a nice deal on a great car - go enjoy it (once the break in period is over, that is) !

"....dealer's price for the car, destination, and any doc or prep fees. If you are not within $500 of invoice, you are paying too much. "

So what you are saying is that all of the fees on top of the price of the car should be within $500 of invoice? Is that what you are suggesting?

    good day to all,

i'm in the market for an 08 g35 sport edition. i know exactly what i want in the car. that being:
    black w/stone interior
    premium package
    splash guards
    (obvious sport package)

i've looked around online and have "read" the things to look for etc. i live in tulsa, ok and have entered what the invoice should be. i know my fico is fair enough to lease the car(673) but as far showing up at a dealer, or calling them via phone to get the best deal, i'm still not confident with my grasp of all the details.

even if i had the money factor, i wouldn't know what to do with it etc. is there a resource anywhere that can help explain how to sort through the details?

any help is very much appreciated. :confuse:

Thanks Dennis. I'm in the Boston area.

What is the break in period by the way? The salesman didn't mention it and I forgot to ask.

I meant what I said - the car + destination + dealer DOC / PREP fees should be within $500 of invoice. There will be other legit fees on top of that, like the $595 bank fee (if leasing) local and state taxes, tags, title, etc.

The break-in period is 1200 miles (yeah - 1200!). Keep it under 4k RPMs and avoid driving long distances at the same RPM. The break-in period is twice that of our Accord :P

Not sure if this is the right forum, but I would really, really appreciate input:

    fsbo
    2008 g35 journey w/ navi, premium, tech, tires/wheels
3,700 miles -- no work, 1 owner, obsidian black, wheat leather
    ask is $32K (paid $36K)
    excellent condition
they are switching to SUV for kids. have only had it a few months.

bad deal? good deal? great deal? thoughts....

Was offered this deal in suburban Philly. Any thoughts?

G35x, Premium, Nav, splash and cargo
    39,725 MSRP
    37,350 purchase
    36 months/12,000 miles
    61% residual
    .0016 mf
$1,500 due at signing BUT will cut me a check for $1,000 to cover last 2 months of current car
    -----$504/mo. including 9% PA tax

Any thoughts? Told them that I really needed to be under $500/mo. and they said that it couldn't be done without going to 39 months or giving up some of my $1,000 cash back. They let me walk and now I'm thinking that they really won't budge. Should I continue to look around?

This would be the point where someone will say "RTFM" :D .

In this case, it might take you days or weeks to "RTFM" since there are several (more if you have Nav). If you look here in the forum I posted a link to download the manuals from Infiniti in PDF form. Makes it a lot easy to read and search on stuff.

As was mentioned, a silly long 1,200 mile break in period. I don't drive any one car many miles, so that means it takes me a LONG time to get through that. Heck, it will be time to change the oil before the car is broken in :D .

What is invoice for this car? How much is the dealer's doc or prep fee, if any? You want to be within $500 of invoice when you count the car, destination, and dealer fee. Once you have the price low, you just plug the numbers into a lease calc and see what the payment is. Roll in the taxes, tags, title, and $595 bank fee and see how it looks. If it is too much money per month, then you either have to lease less car (fewer options, other model), pay money down, or try to bargain the price down further.

Trying to fit something to a payment is doing it backwards and usually leads to a very bad deal. Price the car near invoice and run the numbers using the lease buy rate. That will be a "good deal" and if you can't afford it, so be it.

You can buy one at or below invoice which is around 33 or 34k. All this talk about switching SUV for kids are mostly bogus, but then again, it shouldn't really matter. A fair deal would be 15 - 20% off of 34K, that puts it around 27 or 28K tops.
  • gooddeal2gooddeal2 Member Posts: 750
A fair deal would be 15 - 20% off of 34K, that puts it around 27 or 28K tops.

IMO, 28K is too low if the car is clean. If the invoice is 34K, ~30K is a good deal for a couple months old car. 28K is o.k for trade-in value but not private sale.
  • go_bluego_blue Member Posts: 3
    update: $30K is his revised asking price. 2008 g35 prem/navi/tech/tires/cargo, w/ 3,700 miles.

weighing this against 06 Acura TL for $23.5K w/ 27,000 miles.

    decisions, decisions, decisions...

    08 model vs 06 model
    G vs TL
    3700 miles vs 27000 miles
    ....for $6.5K more :confuse: :confuse:
Seems like a no-brainer to me :surprise: :surprise:

    Also think about the financing...
On a used car from a private party you are likely to pay 7-10%, vs. 2.9% on a new G35.

Assuming 8% tax and 7% interest on the used and 2.9% interest on the new, the 60 month payment is $666 for new and $641 for used. At the end of 5 years you are only saving $1,500. This is assuming you pay sales tax on both the new and used (here in AZ there is no sales tax on used cars from a private party).

IMHO, if the used car at $30k is not EXACTLY as you would purchase a brand new one (color, options, condition, etc) then I would pass on the used at that price. You can always offer $28k for the used one...

As far as the Acura, I don't think these are even in the same ball game. I would not pay $20k for a used TL. I shopped the new TL and it is lacking a lot of features that are standard on the G35, can't speak for a 2006 TL, but I am pretty sure that the the 06 has less then the 08.
  • mkadams9mkadams9 Member Posts: 25
Has Infiniti ever had 0% financing on the G35? Has anybody heard what might be coming for May for either a lease or purchase?
  • loudog2loudog2 Member Posts: 83
til 6/31/2008 -1.9% for 24/36 months, 2.9% for 48/60 months. Unless models or brand are crap, you won't see 0%. I can't remember see 0% on infiniti, lexus, acura ever. Let alone on honda or toyota, maybe on nissan.

Lease is $359 month with monwy down. Can't remember how much.

good points all. although the credit union I use is offering 4.25% new or used right now -- so the diff is not too terribly signficant for a 60-month loan.

Here's the purchase I'm considering from a dealer in CA (bay area):

    2008 G35S Prem/Nav/Sport/Splash Guards/Tr mat/Cargo net
    Blue Slate/Stone
    $35,500 plus TTL

Is this a good deal? Also, what might I expect in terms of ClearCoat, extended warranties, etc. upon close? Is any of it worthwhile or should I stick with the deal I've got? Thanks in advance for your feedback!

I am finally ready to start banging out a price on a new G37 sport and wondered if anyone had found a deal in Ohio? I think there are only 4 dealerships- Cincy, Dayton, Columbus, and Cleveland. I am in Dayton and could make it to Indy as well. Sounds like most have been able to purchase a little over invoice price.
    Thanks for any help.

    will1405,
I made my purchase in Columbus on Saturday for $200 over invoice on a G35xS with Prem, Nav, Sport (obivously), Net, and Guards.
  • winstewinste Member Posts: 6
I'm in Indy and am about 3 months away from purchase.

I have been concerned about being in a one dealership town. Today I sent a request through the Dayton Infiniti dealership. I do not want to approach the Indy dealership yet as I may go through a buying service I have access to through work that deals with our local dealership.

I plan on getting internet quotes from Cinci, Dayton and Louisville to use as leverage.

I can post what the Dayton dealership offers.
  • will1405will1405 Member Posts: 7
Thanks for the info on the Columbus dealership. I went to the Dayton dealership yesterday and test drove the sport model. Very nice. As I was leaving, I dropped the hint that the best deals were around $500 over invoice price. I could tell the saleperson was shocked to hear that number. They are going to send me a quote next week. They think the May financing will be better than current offers. I can post it when I recieve it.

    08 G35 Sedan Journey
    Premium pkg.
    Navigation pkg.
    Painted splash guards
    Cargo net
    Ivory w/stone interior
    3% tax
    $599 doc fee
Lake Norman Infiniti in Cornelius, NC

    $36,309 total out the door

I got quotes from Infiniti dealers in NC and SC, then asked Lake Norman to beat the best one (which was from Bradshaw Infiniti in Greenville, SC). Lake Norman wouldn't beat it, but they matched it. And since they are local to me, I took the deal. Picking it up tonight after work.
  • bmajikbmajik Member Posts: 14
$599 Doc Fee. WOW!!! You could have talked that down a lot with a little effort.
  • osodeoroosodeoro Member Posts: 6
    Blue Slate/Stone
    Premium
    Nav
    Sport
    Splash guards
    Trunk mat
    Cargo net
    ...and, yes, wheel locks

    MSRP $39,375
    Invoice $35,860
Paid $35,560 at Infiniti of Pleasanton
  • jennejjennej Member Posts: 2
A little effort? Please. I'm not sure what area of the country you live in, but around here doc fees are outrageous and the dealers won't budge.

Besides, even with the outrageous doc fee, I was still at a little less than invoice plus $599. Not a bad deal by any means.

sales price = $34,548.54 (invoice according to edmunds is $34,592)
    3% tax = $1036.46
    tag = $125
    doc fee = $599

The out the door price was more important to me than the individual pieces.
  • dwynnedwynne Member Posts: 4,018
The net of the car, destination, and dealer fee (if any) is the key. If you are within $500 of invoice then you have a nice deal - no matter if the dealer fee is $0 or $600.

BTW, here's the rest of the breakdown on my deal:

$35,560 negotiated price ($300 below invoice)
    $3,116 tax @ 8.75%
    $55 doc fee
    $300 CA tags

    $39,031 total out the door

    hi all,

I'm thinking to get a G37 around June possibly wait till July for better deal. I've been hesitating to request an internet quote, but eventually I did through carsdirect, and the dealer they got me in touch with is hardly responsive. (Sacramento Infiniti) It takes them average 2 weeks to reply my email, and without any contents to answer my question.

My question here, can anyone suggest me to a good dealership around Bay Area to Sac? I'm actually in Reno (there is no Infiniti dealer here), so I would prefer a dealership that is around I-80.

And anyone had good experience in getting an internet quote via email? (I'm working oversea, so it is hard for me to actually talk to them on the phone).

Lastly, what's some of the latest deals that you've closed on a G37 (purchase, not lease)? Most of the quote I've seen here is on G35.

Thanks in advance, really appreciate everyone's information here.

    Hello,

I've been test driving cars the last three weeks and had my wow moment test-driving a 2007 G35 today. I'm seriously considering buying it. It is black with 24k miles, the premium package and the navigation package. There are some minor, but noticeable cosmetic defects to the bumper as well as the control panel on the driver side door (looks like key scratches) The dealer is in Clear Lake Infiniti in Clear Lake TX (just outside of Houston) and is asking $31k. TMV seems to be $26,700, KBB $29k and NADA $32k.

Thoughts on a reasonable final price before TTL would be appreciated. Also happy to provide more information if needed. Thanks!

Coupe or sedan? 6mt or auto?

A NEW 08 journey sedan with premium would be around $33k or $35k with Nav. Not much difference between the 07 sedan and the 08 (ipod interface, etc).

A new 08 journey coupe with premium would be $36.5k or so. If this is a coupe then it is the old design and the new interior is head and shoulders better than the old one.

You can get cheap financing on new coupes and sedans (2.9% for 60 months) and better lease deals.

So in other words, depending on what it is and in the shape it is in you had better get them to knock a LOT off the price or you would be better off buying new.

  • hammuhhammuh Member Posts: 3
    Hi Dennis,

Thanks for your prompt thoughts. It's a sedan and automatic if that helps. How much do you mean by "a lot"?

    Thanks again.
  • dwynnedwynne Member Posts: 4,018
You can get a new G for near invoice and they will finance it for cheap money. Take a journey + premium for $33k and compare it to this used car with a $31k asking price. Even if you talked them down to $28k I think I would forgo the Nav and take the new car. Find out what kind of used car rate you can get from your bank or credit union and run the numbers against a new car at 2.9%. The difference in rates for a used G will narrow the difference in price between the two.

CapitalOne is doing 6.19% for 60 months online for used cars. If you did $28k it would be $543.80 per month. $33k at 2.9% for 60 would be $591.50. Less than $50 a month you could drive new.

You may can talk them lower and/or get a better rate on the used car - but don't overpay for the used one.

here my initial offer from my local dealer, and it really sucks to be honest:

2008 g35 sport w/prem package only:(includes mats and cargo net etc)

    black w/stone interior

the lease term is 39 month w/ 15k per year.
    - the sticker price is $37,935
    - the sale price is $36,635
    - the money factor is 0.00185
    - the residual value is $ 22,381.65
    - the paymt. per month is $ 520 to $530 w/ approved credit.
    - the total tag, title, license, and 1st paymt. due up front are$1,840.29

thoughts/suggestions and or ideas are appreciated =)

I was a little nervous to post this due to me finding out how bad I got hosed. But this was our deal:
    2008 G35X
Every option except the cruise control thing.
trade in was a 03 hummer that we purchased 8 months ago and we carried over $8,000 negative equity towards the G35X (ouch)
    $2,000 down
3 year lease/12k miles per year
    payment with tax (5.5%) 767.00 a month

We took the H2 in to get an oil change and found out there was about $6,000 in repairs that needed to be done, got a second opinion and they said the same thing. So with gas prices, we decided to look at cars and found the Infiniti and we love it. Me being in real estate, the nav. works great. I have no complaints and I don't have a stroke writing the check every month. It is definetly worth the money knowing we got out of the H2 with all the problems and into this vehicle. How bad do you guys think we took it in the shorts? I am a little curious to hear everybody's remarks.
  • loudog2loudog2 Member Posts: 83
Well considering a 5 year loan for $40,000 at 2.9% is $715.00 w/no money down. And would be under $700 w/ $2000.00 down. I think you got hosed a little. If you purchaed the car instead of leasing it. You'de get a little money back if you sold it three years later.IMO.

What happened with the H2? Bought from Dealer or private?

G37 Journey, Navigation, Premium Package, Illuminated Kick Plates, Splash Guard, Cargo Mat.
$5,000 total out of pocket includes first month payment, $396 month, 39 months, 10k miles per year. Negotiated cost of car, $38,600.
Right now I am paying $249 doc fee which I figure I can get reduced...

I just bought a G35X on 04/30/08. Everything except the Nav. package.

    Lease term 39 month / 15 K per year.

    - gross cap cost is $37,255 ($35,114 + $1,546 tax + $595 aquisition)
    - residual is $22,021
    - depreciation amt is $15,234
    - rent charge is $4,207
    - monthly payt is $498 (payt would have been $492 but the dealer gave me $500 cash for my last SAAB lease payt)
    - $716 down (1st month + DMV fees only)

I live in Albany, NY and had a great experience with this transaction.

They originally told me $542 mo. payt + $2500 down and I ended up with the above deal. I've been leasing since 1988 and I felt this was a good transaction.

    Good luck

    Hi:
I got 2 weeks ago the following car:

Infiniti 2008 G35 Journey with the following:
    Premium Package
    Infiniti Navigation Package
    Painted Splash Guards
    Trunk Cargo Net
    Tinted Glass
    Lojack
    Price Paid= $35100
This is not including ttl etc...

I calculated with the tint glass and lojack I paid $400.00 below invoice

I also included a 7 years 100,00 miles extended warranty 0 deductible for $1900.00. I think this was a little high.. but I did not want to keep pushing..
I also got a good discount in my insurance for the lojack
    Is this a good deal???

    Negotiated price down to 38,600
Dealer throwing in Splash Guards (invoiced at $140)
    IFS Bank fee= 595
Doc fee= 249 (I think I can get this reduced)
    Reg fee= 250

    MF= .0019
    Residual= 60% (I think i can get this to 62% since I am leasing 10k miles only)

39 months, 10k miles per yr, 5000 total out of pocket, 395 a month

    wow,

i can't get the dealer to work with me at all. they offered me the deal at whatever i had posted earlier, something around $36,600, and i countered with $33,000 thinking we'd eventually end up at $34,000. instead, they told me good luck and wished me well.

oh well.......next dealer i guess? but this process is frustrating and i'm almost just as suited to keep the car i have.
  • dwynnedwynne Member Posts: 4,018
That is what can happen when you make a totally unrealistic offer. From your other post you are looking a journey sedan with sport and premium packs plus splash / mat / net with an MSRP of $37,935. Invoice on that car including destination is $34,655. Offering them $33k tells them you have no idea what the car costs or is worth. If you have offered them invoice + $0-500 then you might be close to getting a deal. Of course, some Infiniti dealers have really high regard for their cars and don't like to sell them without making a few thousand profit. So you may have to try several dealers to find one that will price the car right. You want to be within $500 of invoice cost (including destination) for the car, destination, and any dealer doc or prep fees.

Dennis, is this a good deal?
G37 Journey, Navigation, Premium, Illuminated Kick Plates
Invoice 38292, My negotiated price 38500
Dealer adding 4 splash guards invoiced at $150
    MF= .0019
    Residual= 62%
39 month lease, 10k miles per year
$1630 down payment (fees, registration, bank fee of 595, first month pmt)
    $491 a month

This deal was better than my VPP code which only got me to 300 over invoice. I figure this is respectable, no ? I ran this dealb other dealerships on-line and they claim to be able to beat it, but sounds like it wouldnt be worth the hassle for a few bucks. your opinion greatly appreciated...
  • dwynnedwynne Member Posts: 4,018
Is there any dealer doc or prep fee? Did you check the lease rate against the buy rate I posted the other day? I would skip the splash guards, personally. I am surprised you found a car that did not have them as port added options. To me, they look like the cheap plastic that they are and don't add to the looks of the car - they detract from it and look stuck on.

Anyway, unless you have a high dealer fee or are not getting the buy rate then that looks like a nice deal to me.

    Dennis
  • joenycjoenyc Member Posts: 6
Hi Dennis, many thanks for your response... Regarding the splash guards - you are right, they are not ideal looking, but I figured it is better than nothing, especially since the roads near my home in the NYC suburbs alway seem to be under construction! Makes owning a nice car difficult....
Dealer said only G37s with the Sport Packages were being delivered with port installed splash guards... without the Sport Package it would be an add on... who knows... Initially I was able to bargain the price down to 300 over invoice... other fees in the deal included standard 595 bank fee, standard motor vehicle fee 250 (if actual cost here is less they rebate me the balance), document fee 249, no prep fees or anything else. I complained about the 249 doc fee, dealer said they are forced to charge everyone the same doc fee due to legal reasons, but I was persistent so he knocked another 100 of the car, bringing me to 200 over invoice - considering the splash guards being added, I considered I am getting the car for basically invoice. I double checked MF was accurate at .0019, added 2% to residual due to 10k miles only on the lease, checked bank fee - everything legit, dealer really was honest. When I hit him the VPP, he was also honest - said that deal gets to 300 over invoice, and even admitted they are incentivized by IFS with a 2.5% holdback on MSRP rather than the regular 2% - but that the numbers on my deal were better. I know dealers tend to dispute invoices, but I was able to find this on-line and when I presented it I was able to get the right deal.. the salesman and manager were shocked, said they had never seen a customer bring this into a dealership... check out this link: http://www.g37driver.com/Pricing.pdf
In any case, I am satisfied.. went to a high volume dealer, they sell 180 Infinitis a month.. Regarding the lease rate vs buy rate - not familiar with that aspect, can you tell if I am in line? Anyway, I want to thank you for all your posts - I was able to educate myself about the process by researching this site and I felt so prepared in the dealership.
