Last weekend, I leased a 2008 G35 Journey with premium, tech and Nav. Before I went in to do the deal, I studied this thread for tips on leasing. Thank goodness I did because I would have way over paid had I not come here first. They started out offering a cap cost of $38,820, a MF of .00230 and a residual of 57%. They did not mention the Texas Tax incentive at all. I walked out with a cap cost of $37,000 (I know I could have done a little better), a MF of .00150 and 60% residual and IFS paid my sales tax.

After the deal was done, the sales manager asked me how I knew about the tax incentive. He told me that they do not tell customers about it until they need a closer. I'm not sure they would have told me about it at all. So thanks to those who posted about the Texas tax incentive.

    my question would be:

if i purchase the vehicle IN texas, but plan to TAG it IN Oklahoma, does one still get this tax incentive???
  • dwynnedwynne Member Posts: 4,018
In most states if you are not a resident then you have to pay no taxes to the purchasing state. So if you live in OK then you can go get a TX car w/o paying tax, but it will be due in OK. I think OK and TX both normally tax the entire car on a lease, so unless you want to move you may be hosed and have to pay the taxes.

Congrats on the new car! What colors did you get?

In the future, I would not set foot onto the dealer's lot until I had all the numbers worked out. Work with the "Internet sales" folks at several dealerships and get the best prices, get the lease buy rate, and get it all worked out. Then you just come in, test drive, sign papers, and drive out.

I got the platinum graphite with stone interior. I know I should have shopped around a little more, but I am one of those people who wants instant gratification. I did haggle with them over the phone before I went in to the dealership. Armed with the info I got from this forum, they knew I was an informed buyer before I walked in. In fact, the sales guy jokingly (but probably a little serious) told my wife "I want to talk to you, not your husband."

The tax incentive is a really good deal. Three years ago when I leased my first G35, I paid over $3k in TTL and first payment. This time, I only had to pay the first payment (which they forgot to collect).

    Dennis,

thx again for the countless replies.

from what i can tell, tx and OK tax the exact same way, HOWEVER, i don't think OK has the tax incentive program through IFS. i was told by the dealer(tx) that if i bought it there, titled it there, then "moved addresses" at some point. infiniti would come after me for that incentive money??? can anyone verify this?

also, another question Dennis as i'm getting things confused. could you please clarify with me again if the "fair price" of $500 over invoice should also include the acq fee of $595 or is it separate? or is it just carsdirect.com's invoice price,+ destination + any dealer fee's should =no more than $500 over invoice? you also mentioned some dealers have advertising fee's like in tx. should i allow that in negotiations, or ignore? know what i'm saying?

right now my stated invoice on carsdirect remains $34,655, the dealer in texas has countered with my $35,000 offer to them with $35,328 + TTL and 1st/mo pymnt.

as you've told me, i'm doing exactly what you've said. so i'm working the price first, BEFORE talking finance. i did allow them to run my credit as i feel i'm getting close to striking the deal.

    thoughts? comments? suggestions?

P.S. for the love of god, lets hope Dennis isn't in fact infiniti's mastermind corporate finance guru who is paid to sit in here full time and orchestrate deals.....lol!! to be honest, if i were a salesman, i'd work these darn message boards dang it! alright now, raise your hand and come out where ever you are salespeople!!!
  • dwynnedwynne Member Posts: 4,018
I would say the car with destination and dealer fee should be $500 over invoice (including dest) or less. As long as there is no customer cash or dealer incentive this is a fair price. If you lease, you have to add the $595 bank fee on top of that or pay it at lease signing.

I am planning to buy a G35x with Navigation, premium package, sport package, splash guards, and cargo net.

the price being offered from 1 dealer is 37700.00 which is about 455 more than invoice but also includes added options wheel locks, Nitro filled tires, all season mats, and door edge guards. Dealer says the MSRP for these is about 1000.

I am soliciting other offers from other dealers but wanted to check what the opinion is on this forum for this price offer.
Also, are there any hidden costs that I need to worry about when I go through their financing (2.9% over 5 yrs). And are there any Tax incentives that I can get? it has been a while since I last purchased a new car so are there any other gimmicks to worry about besides taxes where the dealer may charge me cost that they are not sharing with me right now (like processing fee, registration etc.)
  • loudog2loudog2 Member Posts: 83
As a tax incentive, you can right off the tax at the end of the year. I got the same model w/options. I paid 36900 with the remote starter included in price. with 2.9% for 60 months. Additional charges besides tax would be license fee. Don't get pushed into a extended warranty. If you decide you want one, you have until your factory warranty expires to get it. So you have 4 years to make your mind up.

    Dennis,

Thanks for your earlier reply about buying now or waiting.

Looks like I'll be buying now. It's been 10 years since I've bought a new car. I've been reviewing this thread trying to figure out what is a good deal. Let me know if I have this right. A good deal looks like this:

Invoice price + $500 or less (includes destination charge & any other dealer fees)
    + Tax
    + Title ?
    + Liscense ?
    = My out of pocket

Also I looked for the post talking a about a tax incentive for people who live in TX & couldn't find it. Does that only apply to leasing? If not, what is it & how do I go about getting it?

    Thanks for your help.

  • Hi All,

    :confuse:
    1) Can anyone enlighten me on the correct way to calculate the dealer holback
amount on Infiniti vehicles. I have info that says 1% of the BASE MSRP, but seem to recall seeing a figure of 2.5% somewhere else in this forum.

    :D
2)Opinions of this potential deal are welcome:
    2008 G37 Journey (red/black)
    Premium
    NAV
    Cargo Net
    MSRP = $41,425
    INV = $37,824
Agreed upon Net Cap Cost = $38,000 (includes Dealer fee)
    Inceptions = $1365 (1st Payment, Bank Fee [$595], Tax + Tag)
    Lease details = 24 months @ 15k miles/per
    Payment = $532 (tax in)

    thanks!!
  • brodwaybrodway Member Posts: 85
Your question should be posed in the lease portion of the forum, but i ran your numbers and they seem to be off. A 24 month lease with 15k miles, 71% residual and a money factor of .00184 on the G37 Journey with the fees paid upfront should be either 502 or 507 a month depending on whether FL tax is 6 or 7%.
  • thanks for your opinion.

do you have any information about my 1st question...

Just wondering if anyone knows what 07 G35x's with automatic are going for at auctions around the country. I know a couple used G35's I'm looking at came from there and want to put in a fair offer and surely don't want to pay a lot more than I should. (which I've done in the past!)
Thank you in advance for the help.

    Gross Cap. Cost Itemization
    Vehicle Price: $36,393.53
    Gross Capitzalized Cost: 37,601.60

Please explain the above numbers. I am not sure I understand how $36,393.53 became 37,601.60. Did not you pay all MV fees upfront?
  • brodwaybrodway Member Posts: 85
Bcarter...you should really pose this question in the lease portion of the forum, but your deal seems very good. I'm getting somewhat different numbers fort the MSRP, but that could be because this is a pre-price increase vehicle and the MSRP is $240 is lower than it would be now.

Running your deal at invoice, your payments are coming out at $430 per month, so your quote of $435 a month for 39 months seems quite reasonable. If i had to guess your price is about $200 over invoice.

If i were you i would opt for no money down, just put up first month payment and roll in the $2565 into the lease. Your payments would go up to $511 given the same parameters of the lease proposal, but you run no risk of losing the $2565 if your car gets either totalled or stolen. If you pay the Doc Fee and Motor Vehicles up front your lease should run right under $500...or $499 to be exact.

anybody happen to have the G35 numbers?? like these numbers for the G37: http://www.g37driver.com/Pricing.pdf ??

    thx
  • dwynnedwynne Member Posts: 4,018
Edmunds, KBB, carsdirect.com and many other web sites have the invoice numbers for the G sedans. Not an "official" document, but they have the numbers. The PDF you linked to is out of date for the coupe in any case :D .

    thx denni,

i just didn't know if the "official" guide had lessor amounts posted. btw, i'm at a stalemate with the dealer in dallas. any idea on the best way to get a hold of the internet department's?? tried looking on respective dealer sites and didn't find anything but a form to fill out.

    thx

I would just go through the web pages of all the dealers in the area and see what they say. If you have a good price on the car and the problem is the MF it may just be that is going to be a problem elsewhere as well. I only ever see the top tier rates so I have no idea if your dealer is giving you the buy rate or not. The only way to know is to try other dealers and see if you get the same story or not.

Just want to pass along some thanks to all the advice I have been given on this site over the last 6 months.. I picked up my new G35x with Premium, Navigation and black on black.. The technology upgrade from my '04 g is unbelieveable.

On the dealer side, I dealt with Infiniti of Bedford in NE Ohio and the Finance Manager was phenominal. I got the car less than $500 over invoice... My credit score was 4 points under tier 1 and the finance manager got me tier 1 pricing with Infiniti FInancial Services. I'm paying $50 less per month than I was paying on my 2004. Great experience with the Bedford dealership and thanks spefically to Dennis for all his help on Edmunds.

drop me a note. we may be able to get a better deal by negotiating as a two car deal, independent of each other obviously. i can email you his info if you care. i too plan to get a car at month's end.
  • bcarter610bcarter610 Member Posts: 6
all the other #'s remain the same as the original quote i posted except now instead of the final monthly payment being 426/m it's 415/m
  • newwhipnewwhip Member Posts: 4
I was also talking with that dealer... Did you lease? what was the deal you got? monthly payment, $ at signing, term, miles
    thanks.
  • drjustindrjustin Member Posts: 50
If we approve a dealer to pull our credit over the phone don't we have the right to a copy of the report?? i'd like the dealership to disclose what they made a credit decision based on.....

    any help is appreciated.

    thx
  • dwynnedwynne Member Posts: 4,018
I think that is only if they deny you credit - you can ask which reporting company they pulled from and can then get a free report from them. If they approved you but at a higher rate than you would like, I don't think there is anything you can do about it other than to try another dealer.

In general it takes better credit to lease a car then to buy one, which really makes no sense when you think about it :D .

  • drjustindrjustin Member Posts: 50
    yeah dennis,

they gave me tier 2 and said with the credit crunch, IFS isn't budging on their MF's to those on the cusp. oh well, i might just wait till they're willing to deal.

I wanted to pass on the deal I just completed today in NJ, which is for a G35x AWD with the navigation package, premium package, wood trim and rear cargo net.

36 months with 15k miles per year
    Money Factor is .00150
    Residual is 60%

    2008 Infiniti G35x AWD
    Edmunds MSRP - $40,025
    CarsDirect MSRP - $40475
    Edmunds Invoice - $36,785
    CarsDirect Invoice - $36,988

    Selling Price - $36,414.24

    Inception Fee breakdown:
    $475 - 1st month payment
    $595 - bank fee
    $0 - doc fee
    $270.50 - motor vehicle fee
$7.50 - NJ state tire tax
    $41.65 - upfront taxes
    $1389.65 - Total

Monthly Payment is $475 and I had the dealership throw in two free oil changes and free all-weather mats.

    MPK...

You bought the vehicle for under invoice and avoided doc fees. That's an incredible deal. Great job. Please share the dealer that was able to do this for you. In NJ i've found most dealers want a $200-300 doc fee.

I would also appreciate it if you could forward the dealer information, as I'm in the process of trying to negotiate for two infiniti sedans right now. Thanks!
  • mpkrasnermpkrasner Member Posts: 6
The dealership name is Ray Catena Infiniti in Edison, NJ. Please email me directly and I'd be happy to share the salesperson's name and any additional information you might be looking for.

I went back and forth between this dealership and another via email and then eventually the phone. It probably took 3 calls to each in a 30 minute span to get the deal I finally received. The doc fee was $199 at the other dealership and $249 from Ray Catena, but Ray Catena was willing to "capitalize" the $249 doc fee so I didn't have to pay for it.

The Sales Manager from the other dealership I was negotiating with said I had to go get the deal because there was no way he could match it.
  • brodwaybrodway Member Posts: 85
Even with the Doc Fee being capitalized, your total price was under invoice, which seems like an extremely competitive deal. When i spoke to Ray Catena a few weeks back, they were not as aggressive with the deals. It seems like there is a dealer incentive to push the 39 month lease, so they are pricing this deal better than some of the other terms.

"The Edmunds invoice price you're referring to doesn't include a recent market adjustment increase, which means, the newer units shipped from the factory cost everyone (the dealers I presume) more than the original units." Sounds like BS to me. I am currently getting a price of $38500 + ttl for a lakeshore slate G35 w/ NAV, Premium and sport packages. This is a rare combo and the guy found me one so I'm willing to pay a little more than I would but it didn't cost any more to build than a red one. Plus, I've seen prices on G35Xs on here for $36900 and such but they want $38.5K and haven't moved after 4 emails back and forth. Am I being unreasonable?
  • dwynnedwynne Member Posts: 4,018
Check the price on carsdirect.com and KBB and even the "build your Infiniti" on the Infiniti web page. I think Edmunds price is still the old one from back in January. The difference at MSRP depends on the options, but the max it went up is $250. They also raised the destination charge by $60 IIRC.

Current invoice on a G35 journey with sport/Nav/premium/splash/net is $36,432 including destination so $38,500 is a rip off.

You said the dealer "found" one, that means it is not on his lot but on another dealer's lot. There could be a car haul fee to get the car from there to your dealer and the stocking dealer could have dealer installed options you have to pay for, but no way is $2k reasonable unless they are bring it cross country.

Find the car yourself or simply work with other dealers and find one that is more reasonable. They can all pull up the inventories of all the other dealers and see what is on the way to each dealer. If one can find this car then any other dealer can too.

If you work for a company that has business dealers with Nissan / Infiniti then you may qualify for a VPP claim which will make the car's price $300 or less over invoice (plus dealer fee and transport charge if any).
