sewellgsm.... Hope you're well I'm out looking at G37s. Any big changes coming for 2012 that you can share? How's the stock situation with the tragedy that had hit Japan? Is production coming back online? Are inventory levels starting to fill up again?

    Thx!

No big changes for the 2012 as for stocking - things are getting low, should hit bottom in July and the vehicles should start rolling back into dealerships in August. They are building as we speak. We carry one of the largest inventories in the US and we only have 5 G sedan w/ Sport packages and 2 of those are demos. But, there is a light at the end of the tunnel. :)

Sewellgsm....that's good to hear (not the short stock situation, but the light at the end of the tunnel).

Around SW OH, it seems like they have pretty good stock. But, these stores aren't even remotely as big as your dealership. They have said that they can do a dealer trade for any options, colors, models, etc.

Is VPP still a pretty good deal? Separate question, the m37x is interesting to me, too. I'm thinking with Premium package and VPP, we're in the mid $40s. Good assumption?

    Thanks!

VPP is the best. An M like that would be in the high $40's.

I am considering buying a G37 in CA, but won't be moving there for another week. The dealer wants me to put down half in cash today and sign the paperwork. I offered to put in a down payment but am not comfortably signing documents without having seen the car in person (my friend has taken a look at the car and says its fine). The dealers response was that what he's asking me to do is ok because technical ownership of the car does not begin until I drive it off the lot, so I can walk away at anytime and they will refund my money. Anyone know what the truth is? Thanks.

Why wouldn't you wait until you get there? Why would you give someone your money for nothing? It seems like you can get a car in a day or two, why sweat it?
  • poodog13poodog13 Member Posts: 320
I think a partial deposit to hold the car is reasonable, but half seems a bit ridiculous.
  • kdshapirokdshapiro Member Posts: 5,751
$100 is reasonable to hold a car, as long as you have an out.

Have you checked out Gunn Infiniti in San Antonio?

I've never bought from them but they have great pricing online and they seem to get good dealer reviews.

Interestingly, Gunn discounts ALL of their G's online as opposed to Austin who seems to list only a limited number of specials online. Also, Gunn lists the mileage of their cars online as opposed to Austin who doesn't list mileage online. I make this last comment because I looked into a few discounted Austin G's (in prior years) only to find out they were low mileage demos which I guess can still be called new if they have never been titled. I didn't bother to go into the discussion since I wasn't interested in a car with any type of mileage.

Note: These comments are just my opinion. I have never spoken with the Gunn staff and the Austin staff was extremely friendly when I spoke with them in the past.

Let us know what/where you buy...I am just starting to search in Central Texas but have a long lead time since I want to put down a large downpayment for the purchase of a 6MT.

I recently purchased a 2008 FX35 (I know this is the G35 forum but my question is applicable) as an Infiniti Certified Pre-Owned vehicle. I understand the CPO Warranty has some different exclusions and coverages than the original new car warranty. Neither my dealer nor Infiniti has been able / willing to provide a written CPO warranty document, booklet, etc.

Anyone who has purchased an Infiniti CPO vehicle - did you receive such warranty documentation?

    Thanks, Steve
  • sewellgsmsewellgsm Member Posts: 775
Both have one thing in common - they are the only dealership in their respective town. Gunn in SA and obvioulsy Austin Infiniti is the only dealer in Austin. So, neither have to discount too much. Gunn is one priced - they do not negociate, they lower the price as the vehicle gets older. Austin is more conventional - they start at MSRP and you work out a deal, but they are willing to work on any vehicle some.

Infiniti has some strict guidelines about how they allow dealers to price vehicles to the public on-line. They want to have an image of a luxury vehicle - and a bunch of price slashing does not convey that image. Those dealers who have a bunch of "cheesy" adds will be "warned" and eventually could lose their advertising assistance (which is about $100) per vehicle sold.

So, Austin is following the rules and Gunn is not....(I should note that Infiniti relaxed the rules after the stock market crashed at the end of 08 and then again after the earthquake - so they have not been enforcing things much, but they have sent out a couple of emails warning all dealers to get their websites within compliance.)

Feel free to come to Dallas... :)

    I just purchased a 2011 G37x with the following:

    Illuminated Kick Plates
    Premium Package
    Navigation Package
    Midnight Black Grille
Carpeted Trunk Mat, Trunk Net and First Aid Kit
    Interior Accents Package

OTD price was $39,600. Happy with the car and happy with the cost!
  • kevinc5kevinc5 Member Posts: 204
Congratulations. What was the price before taxes? OTD price doesn't help us if we don't know your tax rate. If you don't mind, what dealer?

I'll have to get the paperwork from the house. I bought it from Passport Infiniti in Alexandria, VA. I worked with Tommy and Jeremy.

Shopping for off-lease 2008 Infiniti G37. Have offers for G37 Journey and Sport from Atlanta Dealerships. Journey with 29,500- 34,000ml for around ~$25,499-25,999
Sport with 41,500-49,000ml for around ~ $26,500-26,999. (both typically with premium and without navigation packages and before ~ $499-599 admin fees and before title/lic/tax). (1) Any reasons to go for Sport vs. Journey? (2) Are these prices reasonable? (3) Should I try to get lower mileage like ~30,000ml vs. 45,000-50,000ml for 2008 G37 or not - since basic warranty will be up in 6-10 month? (4) Should I target Pre-Certified G37 with extended warranty?

The sport package nets you a lot of "sport" upgrades inc. wheels/tires, suspension, limited slip diff, massive brakes, paddle shifters (if auto), etc. If you are not looking for a sporty ride you should avoid the sport pack. Also, the 08 is a 5 speed auto while the 09+ is a 7 speed auto which will give you a little better mpg (manual is a 6 speed for all years). Those admin fees seem atrocious for a used car!! You should try to negotiate those at least down to 1/2. Also, I think Carmax has similar cars for around 26 or 27 grand.

Hi, I'm a newbie to the car buying game, so I'm really hoping to get some advice. I'm looking at a G37x with premium, trunk mats, and splash guards. The dealers I've talked with are quoting between $36,600 and 36,800, claiming it's about $1,000 under invoice, as if invoice was their true cost. (Curiously, these figures are also higher than I get via zag.com/amex.)

Reading this thread, it seems like I could do a heckuva lot better, no? It sounds like others are getting nav, sport and others thrown in for only slightly more. Anyone with recent experiences in Chicago?
  • poodog13poodog13 Member Posts: 320
Why not just use ZAG if they are giving you a better price? They deserve a reward for their work, don't they?
  • sewellgsmsewellgsm Member Posts: 775
If you buy (not lease) a G37 sedan - there is 1.9% plus dealer cash of $1000. That means at the end of the month, Infiniti will reinburse the dealer $1000 for every G37 sedan they sold. So, if they sell it to you for invoice - then in the end they will gross $1000. If they are offering it to you for $800 below invoice, then they will only make $200, etc.

Zag is a company that advertises dealership prices. The dealers pay them for leads (your name and number, etc). We, the dealers, tell Zag how much over invoice (or under) we are willing to let a car go for - they take all the dealers and average them together and put out a Target Price to their audience. It is a good program for the consumers - cuts straight to the "bottom line".... :)
  • chicusechicuse Member Posts: 4
Thanks for they replies. I didn't go with the zag price, as I tried to explain, because it seems that even that is not competitive with the deals people are posting in this thread. Perhaps others are embellishing their deals since its an anonymous board, but who knows?

As for the post re: invoice and how the dealer's only breaking even if selling at 1,000 below invoice (after rebate from manufacturer), that goes against everything I've come to understand re: dealer cost vs. invoice. Am I misinterpreting something here? Also, is a dealer required (or expected) to show you the factory invoice (w/ holdbacks, floor fees, etc...) if requested?
  • sewellgsmsewellgsm Member Posts: 775
They will (most) if you ask. If the dealer is selling it to you and making "nothing" - then maybe they are making money on your trade-in, or the financing, or the doc fees? They hope you will use the service department. Dealers gets 1.5% holdback with Infiniti, so that is not enough to keep the lights on...sometimes Infiniti has sales goals that if the dealer hits there is a bonus. So, there are many factors.

If you are around invoice or below and getting 1.9% - and you feel they are fair on your trade, then your doing great.

    Hello all,

I am considering buying a 2010 G37X CPO sedan [base model – no packages] with around 20-30k miles. Dealers around the tri-state area are offering some at $29,500-32,000.

Edmunds TMV for such a car with 30k miles shows $29,199. My question is it reasonable to start negotiating at $27000 in hopes of getting a 28,000 sale price or are the prices offered competitive?

    Any feedback is much appreciated.
  • gooddeal2gooddeal2 Member Posts: 750
Are you sure it's a base X? There're not many base X out there. Most of them will have the premium package and a few w/ at least a sunroof.

IMO, 28K +TTL is great but it's tough to get that low. You probably can buy a 2011 BASE x for about 33.5-34K +TTL. So, in order to sell the 2010 car at 28K, the dealer needs to bring the car in at 24-25K (That's almost 10K depreciation for one year old car) + recon + CPO + about 2K profit.

Can you please suggest what should be good price with infiniti VPP (employee pricing ) claim code for G37X + Premium + accents package.

I am being offered 35,620 + Taxes. How much leeway do I have ?

What are the costs included TTL ? What is the best time for buying with in next one month ?
  • hiluxssrghiluxssrg Member Posts: 6
Going to try to see one particular car I have in mind this weekend and will hopefully get some idea of pricing. All the information I have read points to it being a base 2010 G37X.
  • gooddeal2gooddeal2 Member Posts: 750
If the dealer has enough pictures, I might be able to tell if it's a base or not.

For VPP are the options that you include (premium, navigation etc) priced at invoice or lower? The VPP price on Infiniti's website is for the base model (without the options) and when I provide my claim code to dealers they don't give me a break up of the individual options (if I do the math it seems like they price the options at invoice but wanted to some independent clarification

Also is Infiniti planning any major/minor changes for 2012 for G37 Journey?
  • sewellgsmsewellgsm Member Posts: 775
VPP is a set price. This month all those who qualify for VPP get the A plan. So, the VPP price will be $1250 below the invoice.

Normal C & D plans are at the invoice - so August is the month to buy if your VPP (C or D plan) because you get bumped up to A plan.

You are getting a break on all equipment that is on the original MSRP.

Just go to the dealer that you like and get the car you want in the next 10 days. :)
  • rusduderusdude Member Posts: 41
    SewellGSM,

Are you sure A plan promo ends at the end of the month? InsideNissan says that employee pricing is good from Aug. 2 through Sep. 30 (with a disclaimer that it's for select Nissan & Infiniti vehicles).

P.S. I know, SewellGSM had pointed it out already, but I'll repeat -- VPP pricing now extends to active & reserve US military :)
  • sewellgsmsewellgsm Member Posts: 775
You are correct. I went back and found the email - it runs through 9/30/11. It is the sales tax credits (in Texas) that end on 8/31.
  • sobigsobig Member Posts: 2
Thank you all for your replies. It was helpful.

I went ahead and signed the contract and paid the downpayment. The car will be delivered at end of this month. Today I got a call from another dealer and when I told him that I got the exact car(with the options I want) he said he was ready to give me $500 less than VPP price. I declined as I don't want to go through the hassle of cancellation and more importantly don't want to back out as I don't think it is right thing to do. Anyways the reason I share this is that some dealers might be desperate to make sales and might be willing to negotiate a bit more on VPP price. Again I'm not complaining as I have got a really good price (VPP - already discounted) for what I think is a really good car

Does anybody have any info on what is a good price to pay for the warranties and which warranties are a good buy
  • sewellgsmsewellgsm Member Posts: 775
You can always buy the warranty right before your vehicle goes out of warranty - it may cost a little more 4 years from now; however, if you trade, sell, wreck, etc. the vehicle before it goes out of warranty you never needed it anyway.

I would only buy the warranty offered by Infiniti - other companies that offer extended warranties for cheaper prices usally go out of business, don't pay claims, make you pay up front and send in receipts, etc. Not worth the hassle and the risk. Infiniti does not make money on the sale of warranties - they hope to break even and keep their cusomters happy so they buy more cars from them. Dealers make a few hundred bucks when they sell the warranty; otherwise, it is not worth their time to offer them. Hope this helps.

PS The dealer who offered you a lower price after you signed up, probably was just saying that to make you 2nd guess yourself...it makes no business sense to sell a vehicle for less than you buy it for unless they were going to make it up somewhere else.

Hi, I just received a VPP quote for 2011 G37
    Blue Slate
    Premium Package
    Navigation Package
    Illuminated Kick Plates
    Wheel Locks

VPP price $34,703, out of the door $38,163. I got this quote from a dealership in the LA area, I think this is a good deal, any thought?
  • sewellgsmsewellgsm Member Posts: 775
VPP is a set price = to invoice. This month all VPP are getting A plan. So, your price should be $1250 below invoice, then Infiniti has a $1000 dealer cash on the G37 this month. So, your sell price before TTL should be $2250 below invoice. Ask to see the invoice - if this is it then you are good. :)

Hi, I just bought from a private party in Atlanta 2008 G37S White Pearl (grey leather interior) G37 Coupe with auto transmission and with Sport Package with sport bucket seats with power lumbar support, Premium Package, Navigation Package, Technology package, sunroof, premium sport wheels, rear spoiler, splash guards body color, illuminated kick plates, cargo net, etc. (I think the only option is missing is interior accents) with 19,315 ml. Full total price (before reg, tax, title) $28,900. I hope this is a good deal for a clean vehicle with a clean title, any thought?

Where are you? The doc fee varies by region...in California state law limits it to a maximum of $55.

How close to the target price is possible - it's based on Consumer Reports and Edmunds lowest available pricing, plus actual dealer accessory costs from the NicoClub forums (except the spare tire which I just guessed at)?

    Line# / Item / MSRP / Dealer /Labor hrs / cost (at 90/hr)
    1 G37 convert 51375 / 41285
    2 Sport 1700 / 1472
    3 Premium 3050 /2642
    4 Navigation 1603 / 1850
    5 Spare tire Pkg 150 / 214 / 1 / 90
    6 Spare Tire 150 / 150
    7 Black grille 360 / 235 / 0.5 / 45
    8 Sport Exhaust 789 / 547 / 0.5 / 45
    9 Wheel locks 51 / 32 / 0.3 / 27
    10 Tire valve caps 12 / 9 0.05 4.5
    11 Int accent lights 600 / 76 1 / 90
    12 Illum kick plates 340 / 201 / 0.9 / 81
    13 Airbag lock bolts 22 / 16 0.5 / 45
    14 Prem floor mats 290 / 114
    15 Wind deflector 545 / 420
    16 Console tray 10 / 7

    Total $61,047 / $49,270 / $428
    Plus labor $61,475 / $49,698
    Dealer incentive $(1,000) /
    MSRP / Target price $60,475 / $48,698
