Thanks for the advice Dishwash~ I will get the math done... If the difference is not so big then I would probably still finance since it is always good to have the extra money available in the account just incase for emergencies or investment opportunities.
I was hoping to get some input on how "good" of a deal to expect...short story - I'm moving back to the US from Switzerland, and want to buy two new acura's (TL Type S and MDX Tech/Entertainment) - thought is that in buying two cars from one dealer I can get better deal....also, these we love these two cars.
Anyone ever done something like this? Is it reasonable to expect them to sell one car to me at cost and allow/expect profit on one? This should be a very easy deal for someone, I need to buy two cars, have no trade, etc. could set up online and walk in to sign papers....that said, I want to get best deal possible so any thoughts on how to handle/approach is greatly appreciated.
Hi, I just got a quote for an MDX Tech Package for 40,000 (including destination charge) plus tax and license. I've been reading the messages and there is a discussion of document charges, advertising charges, etc. I am in Califonria and I would assume that those are not part of "tax and license" -- Thoughts?
First, I appreciate this forum for helping me so much to get a idea about the true price of MDX. I've been looking for a good chance to buy sport & ent so far, and today I got one deal at $48000(OTD) w/ 2.9% financing which include pro pack and running board at additional $750 if I need. (They'd also keep my current car until late June in thier storage for free which I need) Considering the scarcity of sport & ent model, I think this is kind of the bottom price I get, however, I still wanted to hear you guys opinions.
Invoice + Destination on Tech + Lift is $40,900. Weather mats cost $100, Roof Rails cost $200 plus installation or less online. Side steps cost $500 or so plus installation.
If you take the accessories and installation charges out it looks like you got the car for about $1000 over invoice which is certainly a reasonable deal at about 2% over invoice price.
OTD is meaningless without knowing all the individual costs.
What are you paying for the car including destination but without any tax? What are you paying for accessories? What are you paying for other fees such as documentation fees, advertising fees, etc?
With all the hype about gas prices, I'm confused. Simply put, should I keep a 2007 MDX Tech Package with 25K miles on it...or purchase a 2008 Toyota Highlander Hybrid with all the extras to feel I didn't 'trade down'.
I just got one more deal at $48000 including running board(which is $750 value), and $48300 if I add pro pack. He assured me that this is the final price and I would not pay even a penny more. Like I mentioned, this price includes everything (tax, destination, etc). Since I've been talking with breakdown, I don't know all the details in that price. But I think I'm paying the invoice price.
I would hardly put it that way. The MDX is a luxury vehicle. If you can't afford to put gas in it then you shouldn't buy it.
The problem is that good residuals and low interest rates have convinced many people that they "need" a vehicle like this, even if they can't actually afford the fuel and insurance premiums for an expensive SUV or crossover.
I have zero sympathy for those who knowlingly buy a car that gets 12-20mpg and then moans and complains about how much it costs to fuel it up.
I'm staying put. Drove the HL yeasterday...even the salesman when he saw my black Acura MDX commented...gee nice truck, all decked out.
Just for kicks I followed all the overly-abundant advice everyone seems to be dishing out this days, especially on the Today show...avoid quick starts, hard accelaration, use the cruise, yadda, yadda....and you know what...my MDX yielded 24.7 this last tank! 80% HWY!
So, I'm not going the HL route. I did not really like it when I drove it.
for what it's worth, my wife knows that if she comes home with less than 15 mpg there will be hell to pay. cuts down on her frivolous treks around the block or to get her nails done for the umpteenth time.
I picked up a new Base MDX 2008 today. Was this a fair price? I negotiated my best price with several dealers quickly- over the phone with each respective internet department. I went to the best priced dealer and signed paperwork when I arrived. Quick and painless. Waiting for car to be prepped was more taxing.
$35,095 Base model price, plus $499 doc prep fee, plus tax, tag, title...
Anyone unlucky enough to buy an MDX on May 1st lost $2000.
Starting May 2nd and running through June 30th, there is $2000 cash to dealer support from Acura involved on all MDX models. So, purchasing at $1500 under invoice on May 2nd is the equivalent of buying at $500 over invoice, the day before!
The best time to go vehicle shopping is during a recession, provided one can spare time away from the bread line. :shades:
PS: The $2000 incentive does not apply to the capitalized cost of leasing an MDX. Tough choice: I wanted to lease an MDX but that $2000 off involved in buying one is mighty tempting!
Bought a new MDX on Wednesday (4/31) at 4.9 for 60 months. Now I see that they dropped to 2.9. Is there anything I can do?? Am very frustrated - with dealer and myself... Know I should have waited. Actually changed length of loan because payment was high - now could have got the shorter term I wanted for a similar price. Any ideas? Calls into the dealer and waiting to hear back...
What about the poor soul who bought an MDX for $42,000 cash on May 1st only to helplessly watch someone else on May 2nd doing a deal on the exact same model MDX with the same salesman for only $40,000?
If one drives 10,000 miles in the first year, that $2000 savings will just about pay for the year's gas!
I just bought a 08 MDX yesterday base model with accessories like sport running board, cargo tray, roof rail, cross bar, and body side molding as well as window tint; tax, title, fees included for $40900 plus a 0.9% for 36 months.
Not a bad deal I believe considering just a week ago, I offered $38K out the door plus accessories with a 2.9% and got rejected from a different dealer and another $41K OTD for 0.9% offer rejected on May 2nd from the same dealer who rejected my $38K.
Also, my trade in offer was $2200 higher than the stupid greedy dealer who rejected my $41K offer.
One thing that I don't understand is that many of you have mentioned paying a document fee of $500, but I paid only $50, why is there such a huge difference?
Acura doesn't mix the new 0.9% financing with the $2000 cash to dealer, from what I have read. It's an "either or" thing. Maybe some dealers are offering both the financing and the rebate because of slowing sales. Did you get both?
I don't know about the document fee being so different. Shouldn't be that large a gap. Don't call the dealer and ask!
I'm thinking of leasing an MDX because many dealers at this time are refusing to deal on SUV trade-ins and I don't want to be stuck somewhere down the road with an unsellable vehicle.
No doubt about it: now is a good time to buy an MDX if the gas expense and the possibility of getting stuck with an unsellable vehicle doesn't bother you.
Enjoy your new ride! (I drove it twice recently and loved it).
Hi could you give us the name and address of the dealer? In austin Base with top rack and side rails is $43000 and they still act as if they are handing it down low to you...jeez....
The $2000 dealer support is good through June 30th. The 0.9% financing is good through July 7th.
It would be a huge gamble to assume that Acura will extend the dealer support into July. Then again, they may increase the dealer support to $2500 or $3000 on July 1st if the new incentives are not working. Who knows? :surprise:
If I was buying an MDX, I would take advantage of the $2000 discount already revealed behind door number one. I wouldn't have the stomach to pass up that sure thing $2000 to find out what is behind door number two on July 1st. After all, It just could be $0!
No, they normally don't mix the financing and the cash rebate, but it really depends on how you negotiate with them, your patient and your nagging skills. They first offered 0.9% on $42,000 OTD including the accessories I mentioned, but I didn't want to pay that much, so the negotiation lasted for a couple hours. We stucked at $41,500 for a long time; I finally found a way to push the numbers down, I called my credit card company who is offering me 0% on Balance Transfer but with a cap of $99 on transfer fees. Anyways, as I was talking to my CC company, I leaned towards the sales close enough for him to hear a bit letting him know that I am having my CC wire money as balance transfer to my checking account After the call, I said to him that I don't want financing no more and I am looking at Cash $39500 OTD including all those accessories; he freaked a bit, and told me that he would do $41,200 and I said, what's the difference; anyways, he then said $41K final offer, knowing that we are so close that he didn't want to lose my business, I pushed for one more $100.
Anyways, be really aware when they give you the so called break down sheet, if you don't pay special attention, they would add some money to that break down sheet and let you have that small amount of money off you wanted. We shaked hand but didn't sign a thing, and we went on to the paperwork. When he was not arround, I was able to think a bit more clear and when he came back to ask me to sign, I double checked and found that the offer that we shaked hand on was for $41262, $300 more than what I wanted, I then showed him all my calculation and he had that really [non-permissible content removed] face and go back and forth twice before he finally got the right numbers.
I will be driving this baby for at least 10 years, and we only will use it during the weekend, so gas and unsellable vehicle doesn't bother me as much.
Have you tried Carmax to sell your SUV? That's another way to get your money back.
The doc fee is actually $55 after I checked the paperwork, and it's imprinted on the contract, like if it's a set thing here in Texas; they didn't have to type it. Of course I won't call, lol.
You have to have a lot of patience to keep a vehicle 10 years.
I have been leasing BMW's since 1993. I don't currently own an SUV. I have until the end of July to make a decision as to what to get next and whether I want to buy or lease. I must admit that 17-18 mpg on premium fuel bothers me. My situation is different from yours as it would be my one and only vehicle. I wish I could spare an MDX as a weekend toy.
This forum is great...I will (probably) pull the trigger towards the end of this month. Time to replace my 14 year old Infiniti.
I think late sept the deals might be better, but 2K is good enough incentive for me. As they say bulls make money, Bears make money, Pigs get slaughtered
I will try to shoot for 38.5 to 39K + TTL for Tech/Tailgate package in Southern California. What do you guys think. Since I keep my vehicles for a looong time short term depreciation is not a factor.
There have been lot of conversation about the gas prices. If anyone is too concerned about it then just hedge your bets. Use 2K incentive to buy oil company stock....
In the end you got to live too...I believe you buy Hybrid to feel good and to do things for the environment NOT to save money.
Anyway back to my question Do you think 38.5K is do able for tech/tailgate in San Diego area?
I mean that in negotiating the price of an MDX for a lease, don't expect the dealer to automatically discount it by $2000 like he would if you were buying it. I guess it is possible, but I wouldn't expect it. Thus, your capitalized cost for a lease would be closer to $40,901 than $38,901.
However, if you attempt to be a real pain and wear down enough dealers and sales are slow, you just might just find one to go with $38,901 rather than just have the vehicle sitting there taking up space.
Ah, so potentially, the dealer would be more likely to go under invoice ($38,901) if I purchased (financed or cash) rather than leased. Hrmm, need to revisit my purchase options then.
Yes! Both the discount finance rates and $2000 cash to dealer are designed for buyers, not renters. They don't want these MDX's returning after 2 or 3 years.
$2000 under invoice should be very do able at this time on an MDX purchase.
Hi, Can you provide the breakup of the Charges ? ie how much did you pay f or the base model, Accessories, Doc Fee, Tax + Registration. You bought a lot of accessories. Its hard to believe the deal but if you got it you are extremely lucky.
Oh I know, the longest I ever kept was 6 years on a Chevy Cavalier. However, unless I suddenly make million more (haha dreaming), I would want to keep it for 10 + years.
Yeah I drive Accord when I go to work which saves me quite a lot considering how far is my office from home (30 miles each way).
Unless you've also signed something like a loan and rental agreement to give yourself some extra couple of days looking for better financing rate; otherwise, it's hard to back off from what I know.
What happened was that when I bought my Accord, they offered me a 7% financing, which I rejected, so they gave me an extra day to talk to my bank and try to get better rate, I turned out to pay everything off at once, but I sure love to see the face reaction on that sales when I walked into the building and told him that I decided to not purchase this Accord.
You might want to google around to see if you can back off to some extend.
$2200 Installed (Roughly, Sports Running Board, Roof Rail, Cross Bar, Side Body Molding, Cargo Tray, and Window Tint)
Selling price on MDX: $36,571.17 which also includes destination charge of $715.
The parts cost on Acura website is $1395 + Tax + Labor less Window Tint (I am guessing $100 + Tax), so roughly $1,600 not including labor. A $600 labor is a bit too much I believe, but it was really hard to get them to go down anymore than what I would like.
I purchased car from Ed Voyles- on Peacthree Industrial inside 285 perimeter... called them up- asked for 'internet sales manager' - there's only one person there with that title- I was transferred him right away. I told him what I wanted- base- no options- that I had done my research, had test driven, and was calling each dealer. I also told him I was ready to buy today (which was true)- and just want to come in and sign docs (which was true). He gave me the price- $35,095 right away- I tried to bargain lower, he didn't budge- but price seemed very fair (compared to other ATL dealers). He said he would also throw in 'dealer prep and wheel locks' I assume 'dealer prep' is what they do to every car before you get it... I didn't want financing from them- just bottom line deal. He offered me $38,885 for technology package- and I tried to get that lower- but he didn't budge... you have to add dealer fees- $499, tax, tag, title- to my above numbers to get OTD. My Base model OTD was $38,123 (7% tax). Negotiation was a 5 minute call for each area dealer.

You are paying just slightly less than MSRP.

Check out the HL boards, you can't chnage nav destination in the HL while in motion. Bluetooth sucks and sound system is not nearly as good.
The problem is that good residuals and low interest rates have convinced many people that they "need" a vehicle like this, even if they can't actually afford the fuel and insurance premiums for an expensive SUV or crossover.

In the Acura site, it is said that 0.9% financing offer is valid for through 7/7/2008.
Then I guess that 2K-support is also for through 7/7/2008.
I'm planing to buy one early of this July. Can anyone answer the question?
It would be a huge gamble to assume that Acura will extend the dealer support into July. Then again, they may increase the dealer support to $2500 or $3000 on July 1st if the new incentives are not working.

Thanks for the info. Can you clarify what you mean by "The $2000 incentive does not apply to the capitalized cost of leasing an MDX"?
I can't negotiate below invoice then use that amount as captialized cost to base a lease off of?
For instance, MDX w/Tech package (with pwr liftgate)
1. MSRP: $44,960 (includes destination charge)
2. Invoice: $40,901 (includes destination charge)
3. 2k incentive: $38,901 (includes destination charge)
4. Gross Cap Cost: $38,901 (includes destination charge)
Is this logic correct?
TIA.
Thanks.
$2000 under invoice should be very do able at this time on an MDX purchase.

$2128.83 Tax+ Title+ Fees
$2200 Installed (Roughly, Sports Running Board, Roof Rail, Cross Bar, Side Body Molding, Cargo Tray, and Window Tint)
Selling price on MDX: $36,571.17 which also includes destination charge of $715.
The parts cost on Acura website is $1395 + Tax + Labor less Window Tint (I am guessing $100 + Tax), so roughly $1,600 not including labor. A $600 labor is a bit too much I believe, but it was really hard to get them to go down anymore than what I would like.
Also, can someone confirm that at this price, I am about $400 lower than invoice? From what I have gather:
1. MSRP: $44,960 (includes destination charge)
2. Invoice: $40,901 (includes destination charge)
Was that $38,885 price for the tech package with the power liftgate?
