I am hoping to purchase an MDX with Tech Pkg. within the next month in the Washington DC area. I stopped by Chevy Chase Acura and have had a good experience so far. I hope to avoid having to deal with multiple salespeople/dealerships in order to get bids.

The dealership has offered me the MDX Tech w/o the power tailgate at $38,402 (invoice is $40,402 so invoice - $2K incentive). Plus, tax license, etc. Plus about $799 for running boards installed (full price, it seems).

Does anyone have comps in the MD/VA area? I hope to stay near home unless I can save significantly. I will not be financing. Very much appreciate your thoughts.

I used Costco to get a quote on a 2008 Acura MDX tech/entertainment. The price is $40,398 plus $500 off if I buy by end of month (tomorrow). Tax, title, registration and destination is $3,989. Total OTD is $43,887. The only dealer accessory is wheel locks which is included in the price above. Is this a good deal or not?

Also, accessories seem a bit high. This is what he quoted me:

    - Roof Rails and Cross Bars $700
    - Backup Sensors w/ Attachment $1,100 (you can buy parts for $523.80)
    - Body Side Molding $150

I found a 6 year/120K mile with zero deductible extended warranty for $1,350 through AcuraPartsSuperStore.com.

Can I get the accessories installed cheaper?

    I'm ready to buy tomorrow.

After talking with three DFW-area Acura dealers, here's the deal I just signed for a 2008 MDX w/ Tech and Entertainment plus body side molding and roof rails: 36-month lease, 12,000 miles/yr, all costs, fees and taxes rolled into the lease payments (tax rate in TX is 6.25%), lease payment = $680/month. The only payment I made when I signed the lease was the first payment.

Contrary to what I have read on here, I saw no indication that they were having trouble moving these gas guzzlers. That may be because DFW's economy is strong due to the oil & gas industry's strength.

Great to read the postings. Thanks.

In process of buying MDX with Navi..according to older posts - (6 months) - appears that prices were at Invoice then.

Now, with $2,000 incentive should be Invoice less $2,000? Appears that
dealer will give $2,000 or the low .9% financing - not both.

Observations while shopping. I only went to one dealer. Very attentive and somewhat aggressive. I never gave my last name, but they must have done a lookup on my license plate...Sales Mgr called me at home and received a personalized letter, etc. I was turned off by that and would have preferred that they just ask for the correct spelling of my last name, address, etc.

I talked about reading reviews on Internet, comparing models, etc. I think the dealer was deflated - almost like..lf you go out for quotes, we probably won't get your business anyway. If the dealer closest to my house is within $500...probably go w. them.

I was waiting for the 09 Pilot before making decision. In person it is more acceptable than the pictures. However, I don't like that everything is bigger and it actually led me more to MDX. (already have a minivan)

I am still waiting to ensure I want to spend $40K+ on a low MPG SUV. I can not believe the amount of Inventory at dealers. I think incentives will no where but up.
  • inmarketinmarket Member Posts: 4
I also test-drove the new Honda Pilot. And am still considering it instead of the MDX. MDX is a nicer driver's car but even though I find the '09 Pilot fairly ugly, I might go that route. It will all come down to who will give me a better deal for the car.

The Pilot is very well thought out, in my view. With a car seat on passenger side second row, I need to crawl into the back seat of the MDX. The Pilot allows entrance on both sides. I want to buy the MDX for all the luxuries but logic is beginning to take me in another direction.

Curious what you end up doing.

Has anyone ever try to get quotes from overstock.com. I got a quote from them for a Tech + Power TailGate pkg for $1500 under invoice. And that's not even including the $2k incentive. So total would be $3500 under invoice (of course I won't be getting the finance deal). Just wondering if I can get even lower than the overstock price? And does anyone have any experience taking overstock quote to different dealer to match the price? Thanks.
  • dexterbotdexterbot Member Posts: 4
I never tried them but do you mean, under invoice or under MSRP? $3500 under invoice would be under $35K for tech/pwr liftgate.

I got mine for $7500 under MSRP which was $37,400 which probably was a few hundred under invoice.
  • fooglefoogle Member Posts: 9
$3500 under invoice. Maybe you can try it yourself at overstock, no need to give them any personal information in order to see the quote.
  • JBaumgartJBaumgart Member Posts: 890
foogle, are you 100% sure the $2,000 dealer incentive isn't already included?
  • fooglefoogle Member Posts: 9
I am not 100% sure because I haven't try it yet. (Won't ready to shop until next week) I am based on what overstock says on their quote, "Does not include incentives. Make sure that your dealer includes all applicable incentives when calculating your price."
  • hodog16hodog16 Member Posts: 53
Overstock quoted me $500 over invoice in my area (NC). They say no incentives are available.

With that said, I do not think you can get the MDX for $3,500 under invoice. I went to a few places today and my wife took another look at the MDX and liked it better. Didn't have time to crunch the numbers but they said they could not combine the $2,000 rebate and the special financing.

I will probably try to forgo the special financing and try to get the lowest price possible. I have no doubt invoice + destination - $2,000 will be easy to obtain ($35,229), it's just a question of how much more I can try to get off.

Purchased on MAY 31 in NYC. Vehicle is $38,846. Out the door $42,361.85.
After factoring in the $2000 dealer cash, the car is 1,492 below invoice (Invoice should be $40187 plus $715 destination).

Needed backup camera. Was considering 2008 Pilot EX with Navi, Highlander Limited, MDX, and X5. 08 Pilot was $10K cheaper than Highlander and MDX but couldn't find stock. X5 camera seems to suck at night. That left the Highlander Limited and MDX. Toyota packages the Limited with Nav (wanted large LCD for camera) with the DVD in the NY area so the difference between it and the MDX was under $2K. Picked MDX due to better safety ratings and because everyone's got a Highlander here.

The was my first time buying a car. If you don't do your homework, you will get fleeced. I got bids from 6 or 7 dealers. Highest bid was $6,000 more. Carsdirect won't give you the lowest price but if you don't want to do your homework, it's a good place to buy a car.

    Hi,

I got a quote for a 08 MDX with tech pkg for $38,402.63. out of door price is 39.5k. Sounds like a good deal from what i have seen so far. Have not discussed the financing yet with this dealer.

    thanks

overstock is $38902 so it looks like your are ahead. Out door price seems too low....because it's only 3% more than the vehicle price. Where are you located and what's the sales tax rate there?
  • rjw_mpwrrjw_mpwr Member Posts: 13
i am in VA. it is 3% tax, plus 200 processing fee. the dealer is not even charging me the $715 destination fee.

  • hodog16hodog16 Member Posts: 53
Tech package's invoice on edmunds is $39,688 + 715 destination which equals $40403. Take the $2,000 rebate off and you essentially have your offer of $38,403, so the dealer is trying to pull a fast one on you about "not charging destination." That's a non-negotiable, required fee so buyers will pay for it somewhere.

That's all logistics anyway, regardless, I think invoice - rebate is a solid deal as most posts recently seem to be a few hundred above that price. I'm interested to see if anybody can get into the holdback for an MDX.
  • seawolf21seawolf21 Member Posts: 11
I agree with hdog16. "not charging destination" is bogus. "Dealer's cost" is currently $38403. This includes destination minus the $2000 dealer cash.

At the end of the day, it's all a numbers game. Invoice price doesn't really matter...one dealer can offer it below invoice but nail you on dealer fees while another will charge you a higher vehicle price and not charge you any additional fees. For example, I just purchased a 2008 MDX Tech with Power Tailgate five days ago. One dealer was "offering" a part of the holdback and the $2k dealer cash, but had DMV and doc fees of $405. The dealer I went with was only giving me part of the dealer cash but only charged $262 in DMV and doc fees. Another one charged even more for the vehicle but only charged $227 in DMV and doc fees.

What you should really do is get out the door quotes from several dealerships for comparision. You should also get quotes from carsdirect.com and overstock.com.

Is $47345.54 OTD a good deal? I am planning to get the MDX Sport/Ent. package and the $2000 cash to dealer is already deducted. Any comment is appreciated.
  • sfbayersfbayer Member Posts: 11
Hi Seawolf21, I am also interested in purchasing a 2008 MDX Tech w Pwr Tailgate. What was your OTD cost and did that included any dealer installed options. Also, where was the purchase made. Thanks.
  • seawolf21seawolf21 Member Posts: 11
My purchase is in NY. My OTD is $42,361.85 but that's with a NY registration and sales tax. If you are in SF, it's gong to be different. Invoice for Tech with PTG is $40902. There's should be $2000 dealer cash expiring end of June (at least in NY there's one). You should forget about vehicle price and focus on the getting detailed OTD quotes from several dealers in your area because vehicle price doesn't really mean anything. One dealer can give you $xxx below invoice but nail you on dealer fees while another will charge a higher vehicle price without any other fees other than sales tax and DMV. I had quotes from six dealers and they all charged different registration fees and sales tax; some dealers charge sales tax on their doc fee while others don't have even have doc fees.

Just purchased a 2008 MDX with Tech without the left gate. Sticker 44410.00, took the Honda Financing 2.9 for 60 months, sale price was 38488, which includes the 1000 cash to dealer. Could have found my own financing with a sale price of 37488, 2000 cash to dealer. (Lowest I could find was 4.6%) Total out the door was 41843.40, including tax, title and plates, dealer fee was 295. I figured the price was 85 over invoice. Sterling Gray/Taupe. Has anyone installed thier own running boards?
  • hodog16hodog16 Member Posts: 53
That is a good deal. The $37,488 offer without financing is below invoice + destination minus the rebate ($38,403)? Even if that's without destination it's $200 off.

I'm shopping for a base model, but if I were offered that price for tech I'd probably upgrade!
  • baijingyubaijingyu Member Posts: 1
What is the best deal you got so far for base model? Lowest I got is the 35,570 including destination fee. Thanks.
  • hodog16hodog16 Member Posts: 53
We just recently narrowed our search down to the MDX, so I haven't actually tried to nail down a specific number yet, but that will come next week. I am shooting for 35274 which would be invoice + destination - rebate. Either that or to have some accessories "thrown in" like all-weather mats and a cargo mat.

Just FYI, looks like the destination fee just increased from $715 to 760, and on 6/3/08 Acura started a $1,000 dealer incentive to be combined with the special financing only, both of which expire on 7/7/08. The $2,000 dealer incentive continues unchanged until 6/30/08.

Interesting sign to see Acura add the $1,000 to the special financing deals, July will probably bring an increase but I don't know if the timing will be good for me personally.

What kind of prices have others paid for an '08 MDX w/Sport & Entertainment Packages? I am in southern CAlifornia in zip 92223, if that matters. I'd also like to know what kind of 'real world' mileage others have gotten in City/Hwy and straight-Hwy trips (over 100 miles or so) at 65 or so MPH w/ the C/C on. This group is great! I've learned quite a bit since reading all your comments...THANKS SO MUCH!

Sorry paid 39488 to finance, could have found my own financing and paid 38488
  • spark763spark763 Member Posts: 13
Base model would be about 100 to 300 over invoice, minus 2000 also at Prime Acura, 35300 to 35500. But saleman said that the tech package is important when you go to trade it in, everyone wants it in a used MDX.
  • hgsrobinhgsrobin Member Posts: 11
Just purchased one this past Tuesday (6/3) at Cerritos dealership. 2008 Sport + Entertainment. Final price before options/etc: $43,300. We added a bunch of accessories:

    Roof rails
    Cross bars
    Side body molding
    Sport running boards
    Cargo tray
    Cargo cover

That totaled about $2.5k. Add on another $3.5k or so for tax. Got the 0.9% financing with this deal. Added the extended warranty. Worked with the sales director. Did all negotiations via email. He knew exactly what I wanted. Had 2 on the lot. Went in next day and the car was ready to go. 1.5 hrs later, we were on our way.

I am considering a 36mo./45K lease for a '08 MDX w/tech, no ptg. The dealer wants $622. / mo. I don't feel like this is a good deal. What does the forum think ?
  • hodog16hodog16 Member Posts: 53
Getting a few internet quotes for a base. Was quoted $35900 by one, another quoted $5,500 off MSRP for any car on the lot, which for a base would be $35455. Still waiting on three others.

Vehicle price looks good. Invoice minus dealer cash is $38403. He's giving you a part of his holdback. I'm assuming this is not a demo. You may want to check out ebay for cargo net and cargo tray. I think those two accessories are DIY.

Looking for best deal for 2008 MDX-Tech/Ent. for 36 months/15K miles. Currently best offer I have is $593/moth (incl taxes+all fees) + $4,000 down.

I got it from Chevy Chase Acura. I did most of the negotiation thru email thru their internet sale department. the internet sale manager joe is a nice guy. i went in last thursday to see the car, and we did the numbers. it did not work out. then I went home and next day, I got a voice mail and email from him and he offerred this awesome deal. So, I took it. I walked in today and signed the paper and got the car. it is a nimbus gray with taupe interior. I highly recommend Chevy Chase. Very professionaly run place.

2008 MDX basic (no package) in Queens, NY. I visited the dealer last week. and got this deal. I exchanged email one time before getting this quote. 36 month, 12K/year, $559 due at signing.
$559 per month (including all fees and taxes). Is this good deal?
Also, is it possible to discount a little bit when I sign the deal? thank you

    JW,

I am about to purchase a tech package with a similar deal at Chevy Chase Acura. You did not list the destination fee of $715. Was that included in your selling price? Be happy that VA taxes are lower than in MD.

Thanks for feedback on destination fee.

Does sales tax go on sale price only or sale price plus destination? Just curious.

Also destination is now 760, but I dunno if this applies to the vehicles already on re lot.
