I believe tax aply on destination as well but could vary by state. Destination charge does not change for vehicles on lot since it's tied to the sticker.
no. they did not charge me the destination fee. i highly recommend chevy chase. talk to robert mckeon or joe. the deal they offerred me, they are not making much $$ on it.
Thanks, JW. I assume they must have just not itemized the destination fee. I thought Acura requires the fee. Either way, you received a terrific deal. Appreciate your help.
Has anybody tried to look at more than one trim? I am curious whether dealers are more willing to deal on base models or higher trim lines? I originally was going for base only but after getting a nice offer on my old car I'm willing to upgrade if I can still get the price down.
I came across this website powerxtractor.com through a friend of mine and this new engine sounds pretty impressive, but I don't know enough myself. What do you all think, is it really good as my friend said?
So far I have Acura 101West in Calabasas at $38,402 before fees. I'm trying to get another dealership in Valencia lower. 101 West has 70! yes 70 MDX's in stock right now. Ouch!
I got mine in NoCal 08 MDX blk/blk Tech/Power Liftgate for $37,800 dest fee included. Just needed to pay tax and lic and drive out. This is with the $2000 incentive. So our apr went up to 4.9% for 60 months
For those who got the MDX below invoice + rebate (meaning getting into the holdback), do you start with a low-ball offer and then move up, or did you initially offer what you got it for and just held your ground?
well, i originally offerred 38k out of door for a mdx with tech. i knew it was too low. then, the dealer showed me their bottom line, which is 37.5k. then, i did calculation, 37.5k at 4.6 is about the same as 38.4k at 2.9%. So, i told the dealer if you give me 2.9%, i am willing to pay more. So, eventually, we worked out a deal. both are happy.
So, don't just look at the price, take apr into consideration also.
I have worked out my own financing separate from the dealer, so that will not be an issue, and I've already privately sold my old car, so I am strictly going for the bottom line so it should make negotiations straightforward.
I'm just curious what's the best approach to begin with. 38k out the door for tech is definitely in the low-ball range!
what is the best apr you have gotten so far? if you can beat 2.9%, go straight to their bottomline. but i could not find anywhere near 2.9%. So, if you let the dealer make some $$, and with 2.9, you still have a low monthly payment, then, it is a win-win situation. every one is happy. 37.5k is their bottomline. if a dealer goes lower than that, it is a loss to the dealer.
I am looking to purchase an 08 MDX Tech with Entertainment Package in Dallas, TX. Invoice should be 41,683. Ent. basically means they add DVD from what I can see (+1,999) I want advice on starting offer and is there only the $2,000 dealer incentive currently or is there also an additional $1,000 cash to customer but you have to take financing at 0.9%. I wont need financing so should I start with $38,683 and inquire about the new cashback and incentive? Keeping in mind that auto/mid size lux sales are way down, gas up and premium gas required for this car, I would think the dealers are willing to negotiate! Thanks

You have two options with incentives, $2,000 cash back with I believe 4.9% is the best available financing, or $1,000 cash back with Acura's 0.9/1.9% financing. The first deal expires 6/30 and the 2nd on 7/7. You cannot combine the two dealer incentives.
If you don't need financing, the most I would pay is invoice - rebate, I would start offering into the holdback (3% of MSRP I believe), which evidence from the past few pages shows others have gotten.
Depends on the dealer, some cut to the chase while others still give a high offer. I think once you show them you have done your homework they will start lowering their offer.
I am in the DC area. I am looking at the MDX also. The two best quotes I have so far from Laurel for $34,500 for the base MDX and $34,719 from VA.
I see by your post that the dearship also get an additional 3% holdback off the MSRP. That is about $1200. Does that mean that the dealer may have an additional $1200 under the lowest price?
Also, it appears that, based on the large inventory, I should go for the 2.9% financing, too.
I also live in SoCal and I am in the market for a family car. I like the MDX tech package/PTG. I got a quote from Metro Acura for $42,400 OTD and a $500 gift card that can be used towards service expenses and or parts/accessory purchases. Is this a good deal? What have you found?
34500 is 475 above thier base including holdback, that is very low, are they not including dest charge? 34023 is base, holdback is 1206, 2000 rebate and 37229 is invoice.
As a frequent visitor/poster in this forum, I finally got a chance to go to the dealer and took advantage of it. I moved up from shopping for a base to a tech package because I was able to sell my old car (98 explorer) for $3,000 to a local used car lot. Decided to deal for the tech/PTG as the dealer had gotten one in 9 days ago with 7 miles on it and in my first choice color combo.
After initially offering in the mid $38,000's and listening to the dealer's soliloquy about how he wouldn't make money selling below invoice, I told him I'd buy if I got invoice - rebate + destination (40901 into 38901). They came back with an offer of $300 over mine ($39,201). After getting them to throw in wheel locks and all-weather mats (which I would have bought for $150+ from the internet anyway), I agreed.
Here are the details: MSRP: $44,245 Price: $38,486 Destination: $715 NC Tax (3%): $1176.03 Doc fee: $398 Transfer plate: $55 OTD: $40,830.03
The kicker is I'm moving to Indiana very soon, where the state tax is 7%, so I didn't have the luxury of playing the game and walking out the door, etc. as it would have cost another $1600 for the exact same price just on taxes if I had waited a week to buy.
Anyway, good luck to the rest of y'all, I couldn't stop smiling on my drive home.
Hodog16 - Curious to know where you got your deal? In the past, I have found that dealership here in NC have been tough to deal with. Thanks in advance for any information.
ncmdx: Got it from Performance in Chapel Hill. They were a little tough to deal with honestly initially, but I pointed to the salient facts (high inventory, decrease in 10-13% in sales compared to last year, gas prices, etc) and gave them a low offer on purpose initially to try to get as close to invoice - rebate as possible to meet in the middle so to speak.
From the internet quotes, Stevenson in Wilmington is useless (gave me an offer that was $1000 off MSRP! what a laugh), but Crown in Greensboro ($5500 off MSRP was their initial offer) and Flow in Winston-Salem ($5300 off) had some very competitive internet offers without even haggling, but they were ~2-3 hours round trip away so less convenient. Leith in Raleigh has the most inventory but their quotes were a little higher. Didn't bother with Leith in Fayetteville or Apple Tree in Fletcher as they were farther away and smaller in size.
I just put a deposit on an MDX tech with entertain in NC. I wanted the black with bordeaux. Installed accessories, cargo cover, roof rails and trailer hitch. Deal was good in my opinion $43, 644 out the door.
I haven't got an OTD cost on the Tech/PTG yet but I received a quote of $38,400 from Acura 101 West. I've asked the guy for an OTD cost and should received that today.
this is from Auotweek..... it seems it is better to lease THEN buy rather then buy.... I am looking at a MDX and I am on the fence too lease or buy, but this might make me lease:
FROM AUTOWEEK: "If you thought $4 per gallon was a hit to the wallet, wait until hundreds of thousands of off-lease sport/utility vehicles are returned to dealerships. That's when the whammy of inflated residual values of off-lease sport/utes will hammer the market.
According to Oregon-based CNW Research, with some 800,000 truck-based sport/utility vehicles coming off lease this year, residual values projected three and four years ago will be missed by as much as $6,000 per unit.
Whom will this hurt? Those who lend the money--banks, credit unions, car companies' captive finance arms and others who write leases--will face a tab of nearly $5 billion just in 2008. That number rises to $5.24 billion in '09 and $4.74 billion at the end of the decade.
The only slight potential benefit to consumers is that they can buy their leased vehicles for bargain prices; experts predict that only 20 percent will do so.
You don't need a research firm to tell you that sport/ute residuals have plummeted. Go to Kelly Blue Book and see what a two-year-old V8-powered Chevrolet Suburban or Toyota Land Cruiser will run you.
A 2008 Suburban 2500 with a 6.0-liter V8, four-wheel drive, automatic transmission and leather sells new for $43,235; a two-year-old model with 24,000 miles in excellent condition can be yours for less than $20,000.
A new-generation 2008 Toyota Land Cruiser with a 5.7-liter V8 that gets 13 mpg city and 18 mpg highway runs for $64,785; a two-year-old model similarly equipped goes for between $34,120 and $35,975, depending on its condition
I bought this car about 1 month ago. Love it. There are very good deals going on in the bayarea. You can get it for $2K below invoice (without special financing). I bought the MDX with Tech and power liftgate. I am pretty happy with my purchase. Email me if you need more details.
Effectively agreed to deal on MDX with Tech/Ent for $40,125 (before tax, tags, etc).
Also, getting financing at 4.64%.
Seems good considering combination of price and financing. Also getting the sport running boards and roof rack/cross rails for an additional $930, which is I believe cost.
$40,125 (assuming includes destination charge) is not bad: Basically 40,125 = $41683 (invoice) - $2000 + $715 (destination) + $273. So the dealer is giving you $273 which is part of his 3% hold back.
$930 for sport running boards and roof rack/cross rails including labor is a very good price. I am not sure how much is the cost, but these 3 things are usually take time to install.
So I'm trying to seal up a deal here in So Cal for a base MDX and now the dealer is telling me his finance price is over $1000 higher than his cash price. WTF? Anyone else come across this?
hodog16 - Thanks a ton for your info. I am nearing the 50K mark on my 05 MDX and will be looking for a newer one with additional features than my Premium model. Your negotiations with the different NC dealers sounds positive. My experience 3 years ago was laughable (See my message 3372). I am encouraged I will be able to purchase in closer proximity this time around.
I posted the message below previously in another forum, but have had no leads. Therefore, I am trying now in a higher traffic area to see what others may know.
A few years ago, I thought I read a post that stated that dealers will sale the "Certified" warranty to existing Acura owners. My MDX just passed the 45k mile mark and I would be interested in finding out if I can get Acura Certification. Maybe I dreamed it, as now I cannot find any postings related to that discussion. However, I seem to recall that it was $500, but a dealer in VA was selling it for about half that.
If anyone happens to know, I would be very appreciative of information one way or the other.
No problem, glad I could help. Good luck with any possible negotiations, if you look at Performance, send me an email and I can tell you who I dealt with (plus they offer me a bonus for any referrals I send their way!). You can contact me through my gmail account which is my username here (hodog16@) if anything comes up.
Base model - $34,500 Roof rails ( not the cross bars) and all weather mats: $276 Destination is $760 Tax here in the beautful state of Maryland - even if you buy it in VA - is 6% I did my own financing
Thanks all - I'll be checking the forum frequently now that I am an owner.
Just purchased a 2008 Acura MDX with sport and entertainment package in Houston for a purchase price of $41,850. Really happy with the vehicle as well as the buying experience from Champion Acura. Thanks to everyone for all the helpful info. OTD price was 44,744 but I added some other features that added a little to my bottom line. Cheers.
Hi all. I'm planning to buy a 2008 MDX but don't have much experience dealing with the car dealers. If you have any pricing, advice or recommendations on the Acura dealers in NY, please let me know. Any information will be appreciated. Also, I want test drive the MDX, do they require any deposit to do so?
1) They should not require a deposit to test drive the car - any car. Leave if they do 2) the web is a wealth of information. If you use the site you are on - Edmunds - you can get competitive quotes in your area as well as find out how much inventory the dealer has - the dealer I bought from had 150 MDXs in stock. I think I got a great deal in DC. Invoice minus $2000. I don't think that they could have gone any lower.
There is no guarantee that the leasing company will sell for less then residual despite this news. Also i thought they carried insurance to protect themselves from such a loss.
I am also in Northern Maryland and have received a similar deal: Base 34600 (incl. dest.) Body Side Mldg 188 Stripe 50 Tow Package 716 OTR 37999 (incl. taxes, tags, doc fees..etc.) Has anyone in the area got a better deal than this? I have been working on this for about a month and this looks like the best I can do.....or should I wait. Inventory remains very high at most of the local dealers. Does anyone know if Acura is going to sweeten the incentives next month?
Just don't expect the incentive financing along with it.
I am willing to pay $35k on a base MDX with 0.9% financing. A dealer told me he can't do both.
He also told me, "let's wait for July, things might improve." I don't know if he was just BSing me or he knows for a fact that Acura may sweeten things a bit more by combining the $2000 rebate with the incentive financing, next month. Let's see what happens come July.
Yes it is out there. I couldn't get the financing and the 2k off either. I couldn't wait until July - our old car got totaled so we had to buy. But since the dealer had 150 MDXs in stock, I suspect that there will be an incentive in July, too.
Invoice is $36,415 so it would be tough to get $35k
