I was hoping the dealers would be very anxious to deal, but so far only one dealer out of five has expressed any interest in my offer. He told me wait until July to see if the incentives improve. We'll see. Meanwhile I have a deposit on another vehicle, in case the MDX doesn't work out.

Purchased 2008 Sport/Entertainment with added roof rack, cross bars, sport running boards, leather shifter and fornt/rear garnish. $45K plus tax.

    2008 MDX Tech w/PTG

    Got this quote today:
    $37,900
    plus tax, title, destination
**This is already inclusive of the $2000 cash incentive that ends 6/30

Deal or no deal? Should I wait until July? I'm in no rush anyways.

A dealer just e-mailed me with the following offer:

The base MDX at invoice of $37,229 with 36 months financing of 0.9%. ( I asked for this financing, but was hoping for a lower price).

They absolutely will not give any cash back rebates with the 0.9% financing. If you want $36229 or lower, one must deal with much higher interest rates.

    Any opinions? Good deal?
  • sfbayersfbayer Member Posts: 11
Why would you want the base when you can have the Tech w/ PTG for approximately $50 more a month. Tech w/ PTG goes for $37,800 without Honda financing or $38,800 with Honda financing + tax, license, and fees.

What is the best one can expect for a tech / ent in SF Bay area ? I am actively looking for one now.
  • sanjaysdcasanjaysdca Member Posts: 269
Seems an OK deal not too great

Here is Southern CA I was quoted 34800 for base and 38000 for Tech.
Both were Cash deal...No financing..First offer from dealer..No negotiations YET....

May be you should take a look at the interest rate outside Honda Finance...might be better overall.

Check with Bonnie at Los Gatos Acura. I found her price to be better than most. Tell her Philip refers you as I am still working with her on a deal.
  • hpowdershpowders Member Posts: 4,331
I think I can do better. I will check the July incentives.

I have a portable GPS. I don't need the NAV.
  • sm126sm126 Member Posts: 2
Thanks. I have a quote from Bonnie already, but I have a better quote from another dealership. Do you know if there are any special promotions coming up for july 4th ?

I would have liked to wait but circumstances prevented me from doing so. The dealer I bought from had 149 MDXs in stock. In this market I can't imagine that they could move them quickly - 2009 models arrive in Sept. That' has got to worry a bunch of people!!!! I think the incentive will bet better in July. Unless you need to buy - like a tree falling on your car - I'd wait.

I just got offered a 2008 mdx with tech pkge and power liftgate for 39,500, includes everything but sales tax and tag transfer. what do you think, am suppose to go saturday for second test drive, do you think I can get rails and step bars included, I tried other dealers but they didn't have the color in and out in stock. thanks
  • suvwannabsuvwannab Member Posts: 1
Got an offer for the tech + Entertainment package at $42,780. The dealer said that this is the offer with 0.9 financing and if its a lease offer then the price goes to 41,500 and then for cash purchase (LOL) its 39 something. This is Metro Acura of Philly

Ok everyone, finally decided to purchase an 08 Acura MDX Tech with Entertainment (DVD, power tailgate, etc.) package. Because of this fourm and working on dealers to compete with each other I was able to get the selling price for -- $39,000 !!!! (after 2,000 dealer cash incentive). I had to pay the $715 dest charge and sales tax and reg (6% - high in Texas), But was VERY HAPPY with the Sales Price. I ended up adding tint front 2 windows and body side molding. I would think you could get this price and maybe even an accessory or two since they should be desparate in July and August. I just bought because I really wanted silver color and there were only 2 in the Area. Also, I really would not buy any accessories (mats, wheel locks, cargo net, cargo cover or tray, etc.) from Acura dealer as there are a few website companies than can beat the price for genuine acura accessories. Only advice I need now is who to buy extended warrantly from as my dealer offered 1,830 for 7 year 100K miles which seems high. GOOD LUCK

Paid $34,600 (includes dest.) + TTL, total drive out was approx $37,200.

May I ask where you get these genuine accessories? And why no mud guards... i thot those should be pretty standard
  • kaabobkaabob Member Posts: 6
Pls tell us how that goes, I'm in the bay too and was wondering how good the dealers are in the South Bay.

Just picked up my 2008 MDX sport & entertainment. Sterling grey with taupe. I added roof rack, bars, side molding, leather/wood shifter and front/rear garnish. I must say the front/rear garnish is my favorite. It really makes the car stand out, have not seen it on any other one around. It is a satiny aluminum finish that compliments the grille in front and the chrome exhaust in back. My deal was $45K (including destination charge) & ttl. Got the car through a broker in So. Cal, Okuma Enterprises. If you have never used a broker I would highly recommend it. No haggling, they absolutely work the best deal possible with the dealers in our area and deliver the car to your door. You never have to set foot in a dealership. They also get the accessories at wholesale and install them themselves, no dealer markup on either. So far in my one day with the car it is meeting all the expectations I had. It is absolutely a screaming deal for the money you pay. :)

"I must say the front/rear garnish is my favorite. It really makes the car stand out, have not seen it on any other one around."

the reason that you have not seen it on any other one around is because it is a lame accessory. not as bad as the leather/wood shifter, but come'on - front/rear garnish??? sheesh.
  • cpisanocpisano Member Posts: 23
I'm sensing some sort of insecurity or something there. Everyone has their own preferences, I certainly would not knock choices that other people make. To each their own. I may think 20" chrome wheels are foolish and a waste of money, you may not.

As long as you LOVE your car/suv who cares, I am getting a 2008 black with black leather, tech/power lift gate, moonroof and cargo mat for 38,559, add tax/tag and my otd door price is 40,862. cash sale. I could not have done this type of car shopping without all who have posted here to give me ideas. So thank you to all and look forward to driving a wonder, cool new MDX. WHOOO HOOO. I pick her up on sat am. :)

Lately I have seen a few low-mileage used 2008 MDXs around and am wondering whether I should focus on a brand new 2008 or opt for a slightly used low-mileage 2008. Long-term bumper-to-bumper warranty is a must for me in either case, and would appreciate if some experienced buyer could give me some advice on my dilemma. I am in New Jersey (with 7% sales tax) and was wondering if someone has had some good/bad experience with some particular Acura dealers in New Jersey.

    Thanks.

    hi,

Been looking for a while and found an MDX sport with PTG for $39,900. Seems like a pretty good offer. the pricing looks to be around invoice plus $2500 incentive. Just want to make sure there are no other incentives around that will bring that price down. thks.
  • dishwash42dishwash42 Member Posts: 89
PTG (power tail gate) is a total waste of money. don't, i repeat, don't plunk down your hard earned money on this nonsense.

I am deciding between Acura MDX or Lexus RX350. I will be happy with either car, but want to buy one that is a better deal.

I was trying to follow several pages of posts, but it’s hard to know if the price people quote includes all the junk fees (documentation, destination, dealer, etc.). Is it feasible to get MDX for $2500 under invoice?

Robocop1 was able to purchase Acura MDX +Entrainment Package for $39,715. I assume that includes everything except tag/title/taxes.

What should be my target price for MDX 2008+Tech+Ent be in Atlanta?

From what I can tell, $1k “marketing” incentive and special financing will be gone June 7. Monday should be a good day to negotiate.

Thank you in advance for any advice!

Last week I bought a new MDX base model for 35650 + tax in Detroit MI. Though I never liked the dealer, it was my nearest dealer. So I had to take it. I am hoping the deal was an OK deal and I haven't given away money to teh dealer.
  • futureboyfutureboy Member Posts: 3
I bought Acura MDX with Tech. package in Atlanta for $40k including all the junk fees (dealer, doc, etc.) + tax/tag/title, plus got 0.9% finincing for 36 month.

Without the financing the price would be $38k.

    Hope this helps someone.

Watch out for doc fees :):)

I just came back from a visit at a local Acura dealer in NJ looking for an MDX. I saw one white base model which is exactly what I wanted. He asked me to quote him a price that I am willing to pay, he will take it to his manager and let me know if he agrees with it or not. Now I am in a dilemma about how much to offer him and still feel that I got a good deal. I want four year bumper to bumper warranty plus an extended 7-year/100,000 miles power train warranty. Can anyone here help me with my problem. I would really like to buy this car but don't want to sound too cheap to make a very low offer which will be rejected, but at the same time I want to get a real good deal. From the experience of many MDX buyers here what do you think should be a good price to offer (including all the junk fees, like destination chgs, doc fees etc.,) Of course I will have to pay 7% state sales tax on top of whatever we agree upon. So, I need some help in coming up with a good dollar number to offer him; I promised him I will be back in a couple of days with an offer. Please help!!! Thanks very much for any insights in this matter.

My advice is to go in with a low-ball offer, nothing ridiculous, but below their theoretical cost. This will make it a lot easier to get a good deal.

If you are buying, it is a $2,500 rebate, if you are leasing, it is $1,500. I would offer a few hundred below what you calculate for invoice minus the correct rebate. In other words get into their holdback some and offer that.

Some people in this forum have been able to get into the holdback, so it can be done. Depending on your patience level, you can work the dealer by walking out, using the dealers to bid against each other, etc. Supply should be over demand (although I've heard that MDX's still sell well in some parts of NJ) so don't let the dealer make you think these are flying off the lots like a Prius.

Bottom line you should feel like you got a good deal if you can get the car for invoice minus the rebate, plus or minus a few hundred bucks. If nothing else ask them to throw in some accessories, that's what I did when we were only a few hundred apart in numbers.

Others will probably have better suggestions, but either way good luck!

Do you mean an offer of 2500 BELOW the invoice price?. I just looked up at Costco site, and it shows list price of $40,195, invoice cost of $36.514, plus a dest. charge of $760. I want 4-yr B-to-B warranty PLUS a 7 Yr/70,000 miles Power Train warranty. I feel like making an offer, for everything included (before Sales Tax) of somewhere between 37,000 and 38,0000. How does it sound? Am I offering too much or too little?

They have plenty of 2008s on the lot, plus 2009s are coming withing a few weeks. So, I want to take advantage of all these circumstances.

    Help, please!!!

Today, I purchased base model @ $34,000.00 ( included Des Charge) + Fee with cash purchase

add cost for Running board & 4season mat @ $750.00 ( Included installation)

before I go to see dealer, I offered my target price $34,000.00 and she would accept. so, not much spent time for dealing @ shop
  • whsuwhsu Member Posts: 6
which dealer? That sound like a great deal.

it's oakland Acura in Northern CA
  • comet123comet123 Member Posts: 9
Thanks for the message. You mention the 2009's will be out in a few weeks.
Does that mean mid-August? The deal I went to said the 2009's will not be here until late November at the earliest, probably Dec.
I have been doing some shopping, appears to be a ton of 2008's on the lot.
    thanks!
  • sfbayersfbayer Member Posts: 11
I also brought my MDX from Raquel at Oakland Acura in Northern CA last weekend. My cash price was $2,700 below invoice and Honda Special Financing price was $1,200 below invoice.

I took the Special Financing at 0.9% for 36 months and keep my money in my Money Market earning 3%. The saving in interest over 36 months is approximately $3,000.
  • hodog16hodog16 Member Posts: 53
Yes, $2,500 below invoice. If you are going to offer $38,000, do it on a tech model, not a base one! Look at the post below yours: base model for $34,000.

Forget sites like costco, etc. Just take the invoice and subtract the rebate and go from there. You can buy your extended warranty from any Acura dealer, there are 2 dealers selling those online for cheaper, buy it from one of them (I forget their websites). I doubt your dealer will match their cost.

Listen to hodog16's advice. It all makes sense. The economy stinks (count your blessings that you are doing well), gas prices are very high, and auto sales, especially SUVs and trucks, are at the worst levels in decades. I believe that dealers of every brand would gladly unload every truck/SUV in their inventories for their rock bottom, below invoice price - no profit - and feel happy that they dodged financial ruin. Sales people still want to make commissions if at all possible, but dealership owners just want to manage their way through the current economic mess and survive. Take a look on-line at your local dealership's inventories. Local dealers in (financially healthy) northern VA have 100 - 250 MDX's on their lots, and they are doing better than domestic makers. It is THAT bad out there right now.

I just bought a 2008 MDX Entertainment and Tech package, $46,610 MSRP, $42,398 invoice, for $39,599 with no negotiating. That was the price the internet sales manager offered. I probably could have driven the price $500-$,1000 lower but didn't want to because the guy was so pleasant to deal with. BTW, Radley Acura in Arlington, VA.
  • chandra0102chandra0102 Member Posts: 8
Well, had a gruelling 2 hour session at my local Acura dealer last night. Finally agreed upon a price of 35,500 for the base model in white color that I wanted, but including an extra power train warranty of 7Yr/70,000 miles which was my sticking point. So, I have now the basic 4 yr/50,000 miles B-to-B warranty, plus 7Yr/70,000 miles power train. I don't know whether or not I got the best deal possible, but it seemed pretty good considering my needs. I did miss out on the 0.9% financing from Acura which had expired on 7/5, but I did go for the 1.9% for 3 years.

Now I have a need of a good quality car cover for my new MDX for outdoor use since the car will be outside until about Nov, when I make space for it in the garage. Any ideas of a source or brand?

Thanks for everyone's helpful ideas and tips, etc.

Any ideas on some sources of good quality car covers for this model

    Thanks

Final price $40,849 not including taxes etc. in MA. It was a moderate negotiation but dealership was willing to deal.

    I'm looking at a 2008 MDX/Tech w/ Pwr Tailgate:
    MSRP $44,960.
Can I assume that $40,000 would be a fair price in LI/NYC area? This would be for cash...no lease or financing.

ALSO, does anyone know..can the POWER tailgate also be operated MANUALLY?
  • hodog16hodog16 Member Posts: 53
I got a tech + PTG a month ago for roughly $38,450 last month prior to tax, title, fees, and that was before the dealer incentives went from $2,000 to $2,500. I think you can get them for $38k+ before tax, etc.

The power tailgate can be operated manually, I think if you open it manually it takes care of the rest. Should the mechanism fail it can be opened and closed manually I believe.
  • 90mercsable90mercsable Member Posts: 48
Thanks for the info, yes I see the info about the $2500 dealer incentive.
My problem with the tailgate is, the height of my garage won't allow the tailgate to open fully up, the ceiling is very low.
I don't want the POWER tailgate to crash into the garage door (when open), or auto garage door opener track (when door is closed).
The dealer has a really old one in my color (non PTG), but quite a few recent deliveries (with the PTG) in my color (Steel Blue).

    Central NJ Area
I bought a Beautiful Steel Blue w/ Tan Interior MDX Tech w/PTG. They wanted to start from MSRP and that just wasn’t going to happen so we started negotiating from the invoice price of 40,000.

Had a rough time at the dealership and I had to leave and wait for them to come around. They offered me the deal I wanted; then tried to take it back when I agreed to it.

    I checked two dealers
Open Road Acura, 38.500 - 2200, possibly 3300 KBB after they get a chance to look at it (phone deal)
Ocean Acura, 40,000 - 5000 – retail value for my trade, so Ocean Acura got the deal (walkin)

If you can’t get the dealer to drop below invoice; and you have a trade you can probably work “Up” the value on your trade to make up for the below invoice difference.

In this area I found the next best thing for me to do was to play the dealers against each other. I couldn’t get any dealer near me to respond to the internet request I sent out and they wouldn’t give any quotes over the phone unless I called and gave them a deal to beat.

With my new MDX I also get free oil changes for the life of the vehicle and of course I get a free MDX loaner if my vehicle needs to be repaired for any reason. So I wanted the closest dealer to me because they don’t all honor each other’s perks.

Last but least; I love this car; words just can’t express how elated I am with this vehicle. Got to have the tech package, it works. You might have to take time out to read up on everything but once you do; it’s easy. Every morning I get traffic incidents before I turn on the highway. It seems to understand every thing I tell it to do without me repeating, even with the windows down or air going, so I’m real pleased with my purchase. Everything works great; and now that I have the vehicle, I’ve received nothing but excellent responses from the dealer.
