my thoughts on this rash of activity from potential mdx purchasers:
1. like hotdog said, if you need a car, have the means and are getting invoice minus incentive, it's a good deal. That being said, i've been putting off this mdx purchase for the wife for the past 2 years, every year the same dealers here from me and then i disappear into the woodwork b/c nobody would really deal at my price point, which was invoice, until the gas "crisis" hit. so yes, time is definitely on your side when it comes to cars and gas guzzlers.
2. there are more than a few dealerships in MA/NH/RI area who have 150 mdx's just sitting on their lots - with the 2009 already advertised on acura's side, you dont' have to have 1/8 of a brain to figure out who's going to give way in a negotiation.
3. like i've said before, you need to figure out what you want to pay, then start the ball rolling by calling the dealership. you'll never really know what the market will take if you don't do some of the legwork. if you think you'd be cool paying $500 below invoice, email a dealer and say so - it really can't hurt.
4. if any of you MA folks need help, let me know. Acura of Boston is where i got my car. Prime Acura also offered close to the price i paid but without the color combo selection.
Thank you for the great input. I appreciate it greatly. If it was not for you guys, I would not even thought about putting in the price point that I did. I will try to see if I can get a deal on the Tech package. I do like the back up camera. Nav- system, I prefer the portable. I will let you guys know how I do. I hope to get it this weekend. I hope my experience will help someone else just as your posts have helped me.
I bought a TSX last year. I told them I will pay by cash so I got the "cash price". But during paper work, they still did credit check and approved the 1.9% financing for me. The dealer told me to drive the car home the same day (without giving them the check), and said if I want to do cash, just bring a certified check tomorrow. My point is I don't think cash or financing should make any difference on pricing.
2009 Lexus RX 350 FWD Navi & Premium plus: 39K + TTL (900 below invoice) Acura MDX with Tech package: 38K + TTL (2000 Below invoice); I can even push it little more.
I am confused. The Lexus does not have have 3rd row seat, but higher resale value, Looks like Acura deals are much better compared to lexus. I like both cars, but this will be mainly driven by my wife
I wouldn't buy a Lexus now mainly because it's a 5 year old design, and as a side note you see way too many of them on the road (silly reason I know, but I probably see 10 RX's for every 1 MDX on the road).
Just bought MDX 2008 Base in L.A. CA, $35275 before tax and license (destination included) with 1.9% APR, otherwise $34275 if don't take Honda's 1.9% APR loan. So your $33,700 for the same trim is one awesome deal I wish I've seen your post and pressed the sales a bit more on the price. I got my price from the internet quote so I assumed they've done their best.
It's the best time now to buy MDX as nobody is buying and there are plenty in dealer's lot with 1 month away before the new year model arrive.
I just like to say thank you to everyone. I would never had gotten my price if it was not for you guys. I just got my base MDX (black/ebony- what I wanted) for $33,700. Called other dealers but no one could beat it. The best other dealers can do was match. So I got my original dealer to throw in roof racks installed for $187 ( half price) and wheel locks for free (all this was done over the internet). I had crossbars (237) and chrome side step (850) installed at dealer cost (they would not budge and I did not want to waste any more time haggling in person). OTD was $38,423. Tax in the Bay Area, CA is very high.
I hope that this will help people when they go to negotiate or plan to buy. I do love the car. I never thought I would buy this car because I wanted a pure utility car (no luxury) and did not want to spend that much (my other cars are BMW 325 coupe and Cayman S). Son was born 3 weeks ago so I needed an SUV. I actually was considering the 2009 Honda pilot EXL until some one told me I could get MDX for cheaper price. Went to every Honda dealer in Bay Area- no one want to go to much below MSRP. Best I got for 2009 Pilot EXL was 34,800 (1,000 off MSRP). MDX vs 2009 Pilot at same price would be hard to decide (although I would still have to take Acura over Honda). MDX vs 09 Pilot at a significantly cheaper price (this is a no-brainer). Next year 09 Pilot would go down to its appropriate price which is 4-5, thousand less than the base MDX.
I have never posted here before but this forum was helpful for me to help get the best deal on my new car. So here is my deal. I picked up a 2008 MDX Tech/Ent yesterday. The best price I was able to find was $38780. Invoice for this car is $42398 (you have to include the $715 destination). Which means with the $2500 cash back you’re looking at $39898 before you start getting into the dealers hold back. That’s $1028 into the deals hold back. This offer was from Acura of Westchester. Now I wound up picking up the car for $39050 from a dealer who was closer to me (Island Acura, very solid dealership). This dealer I had also worked with before so I felt more comfortable that there would be no funny business when I made it in to them to pick up the car. With this deal I am $848 into the holdback and $3348 below invoice. Now I wound up taking the car for $40050 (this excludes tax and all other fees its just the agreed sale price) with the 3.9% financing. (Its only $1500 cash back if you take the 1.9/36 or 3.9/60). Talking to the dealer when I picked up my car it is clear inventory on these trucks is very high and the 09s are already on the way. I would think the deals are only going to get better. Hurry to get your end of month deals . Hope this helps! Good Luck
Hi, Got a price quote of $37,900 from an Acura dealer in Boston area (Mass). Wondering if you guys think it is a good deal?. (This price, I am told, includes the destination package and the only thing I need to pay would be sales tax, title, etc).
Is this a good price or better deals out there?. Also when is 2009 models expected.
Does this price include Power Tail gate? If yes, it is a very good deal. Be careful, when you visit them, most will add 'Doc fee' or 'dealer fee' crap.
I was told by a dealer here that there may be some additional incentives in Aug from Acura. Not sure whether this will happen, but if you are prepared to play waiting game, you can get a better price, but may not get the color of your choice.
Here in Atlanta, I got a price of 38K that includes PTG, Side boards, wheel nut etc. I am going to wait.
Is it Prime Acura or Acura of Boston. I am still on the fence and am debating whether to wait until August or grab one right now (end of the month). I am looking for base though.
I would strongly suggest to wait until 2nd Aug, as there could be a possibility of additional incentives on Friday the 1st. You could save 500 to 1000$
Go to the dealer website and check their inventory online. If they have 50+, they may not be able to clear all of those before the new 2009 comes. In such situations you can get a better deal.
Aug. 2 being only few days away I think it would be wiser to wait and find out what happens then. Do you guys know that 2009 models would start rolling in then. If not, do you know when they start to arrive.
My price quoted was inclusive of the power tailgate and including the dest fee, I was told. The only fee, they claim, added on top would be the doc fee.which I think is $300.
Your price of $37,900 +300 Doc fee is 38,200 is not bad, but I had a quote from a dealer for 38,000 for a MDX Tec PTG with running boards etc. Now is that you have already negotiated a price of 38.2K, wait till Friday and if you are lucky, new incentives from Honda may come (Hopefully 1000$). You than can get a deal for 37,200 which would be a killer deal for an MDX.
We purchased and MDX Tech + Entertainment Billet Silver exterior and Black interior for $39,422.25 (inclusive of delivery fee but not tax) from DCH Montclair Acura in NJ, We decided not to wait until August, because we wanted to take the new car on a trip we are going on this weekend. :shades:
Contemplating an '08 tech, live in MD and deals seem to be pretty good as in other areas (got a quote for a tech/ent for $38,300 + taxes, tags w/o any negotiating). Timing for us would be better to buy at the end of the year/December ish to be able to have more $ to put down & have more reasonable pymts.
Inventories seem high (3 dealers in my area have 75+ new '08 MDXs each - which includes all models, about half seem to be techs & tech/ents), but is it a pipe dream to hope there will be anything left by November/December?
Not sure if after a couple months w/ '09s out (which I've started to see now on inventory at 1 dealer), they'll flush their inventories through some other channel besides their own dealership?
Curious what others think and if I'm going to miss out on deals & be looking at higher prices in November/December once all the '08s are flushed.
I had already secured financing through my credit union. If I had used the Honda Motor Financing promotion the price would have been $1000 higher. It wasn't worth for us because we will most likely pay the car off early.
$38,300 without any negotiating for a tech+ent seems a little too good to be true. Id be surprised if they didnt tack on random fees once you got there or something.
The 39,422 is pretty much the same as what I paid for mine, but I used the financing so +$1000 and added about $1500 in accessories and was out the door at 42k+tax
I think you can pretty much get every dealer down to that right now, and anything beyond it is gravy.
Hi all...am in socal (LA) and am looking to buy an MDX soon. I will wait for the weekend (Aug 2) but wanted to know if there are dealers / sales people some of you been to that you felt happy dealing with and gave you a good deal? A year ago i went to the santa monica one and the experience was bad.
Looking to buy one with the sport/ent pkg. I think a price around 42K + taxes/stuff might be good. what do you think? Also the 3.9/60 mo APR will be good.....let me know your thoughts. Much appriciated.
Purchased a Steel Blue Base MDX from Prime Acura North Hampton, NH on 7/29 for 34,900. Very easy dealer to work with. Got a great price on my trade too. Added roof rails, side molding and all weather mats. Molding and rails give it a complete look. Still good inventory left and someone had traveled down from Vermont to purchase their car while I was there.
we just picked up our "new" 2005 CPO MDX from there last night. They were very easy to work with and no gimmicks. I got an 05 Touring (same color combination as you) CPO w/o DVD and NAV, 28.5k miles for 22,9 with the 2.9% financing. Had orginally gone there to look at an XC90 they had gotten in trade, but decided on the MDX after drving it. There were straightforward and I got what I had expected for my trade (The Real World Trade-in Values forum is pretty spot on).
I realize this may not be the right forum for this question but this is the most active MDX board and I didn't see another that's more appropo, so please indulge me: I picked up a 2008 MDX (tech/ent) last week (using the advice here I got a pretty good deal in Dallas, TX). What I cannot figure out is how to make the "woman" stop announcing every time I change the radio station (and instead of just saying "820 am" she yells "EIGHT HUNDRED TWENTY AM!"), change CDs, etc. It's driving me mad! So, any help is appreciated. Thanks.
Thank you for getting all the information. I got 2008 Base MDX(Dark cherry color) for 33,700. I got ok deal for trade-in car. This is from NJ area. They said the total tax is 7.4% for Acura MDX.(7% regular and 0.4 for luxury cars) Is this true that 0.4% more for MDX???
This is the invoice: Total Price:33700 Trade-in:5200 Total Taxable Amount:28500 state sales tx:1995 NJ Supplemental Titling Fee:134.80 Tire Tax:7.50 Reg/Title Fee:373 Documentary Fee:349 Total PAY-OFF:31359.30
My question is "NJ Supplemental Titling Fee" is valid one or not? Documentary Fee is high or low??
There's a pretty good Ebay auction for wheel locks... Buy it Now price is $20 plus $5.75 shipping but I submitted an offer for $15 + shipping and it was accepted.
Im not sure if we're allowed to post links or not, but if we are here it is
When I showed up tonight they bring out a white over taupe sport. I said - "no, I though you reserved the black/ebony?" Then they bring out a Tech Black/Ebony.... Again - I say - I'd like to see the car I'm purchasing - they start in with the baloney: "Oh - its on another lot"... "O.k., I respond - I'll wait for you to go get it..." - Lo and behold -the guy's manager comes out and tells me: OK - we've agreed to 40,900 base price - I show him the email thread below... He goes and chats with "X Y" who comes over and joins us - he claims to have made a mistake - I responded: "Tough - you had every opportunity to put the proper pricetag on - I asked you to confirm it was the base model and you said it was the sport - I refer to Sport multiple times in the email" - blah blah blah... Just walked out after that point. So irritated - I'm considering contacting a lawyer... The price is super low - but when I asked him to confirm and he responded it was the Sport - I figured it was the real deal and I went down there... Feel like a total sucker... email thread begins at the bottom...

What is the deal I need to make with you to have you driving home tonight in a MDX. What is the MDX you are looking to buy? Sincerely, X ---------- Original Message ---------- Understand where you are coming from. From my position, I'm confident based on the research that I have done that there is still a large inventory on '08 MDXs on the lots. While the MDX gets decent fuel economy for its class, most buyers are looking for something that doesn't sip premium unleaded and gets better mileage. I understand the need to qualify me as a serious buyer: I'm flexible on color and willing to purchase the car by tomorrow night - if I get the deal I want worked out. But it would start by reviewing an offer from you that breaks things down (tax/title/tags/processing fess) for an out the door price. I'm fairly shocked that they would discontinue incentives to help get rid of '08 inventory - given '09s are appearing on lots. While Acura will respond to the market and produce fewer '09s - that won't help the glut of '08s out there. Just my armchair quarterback opinion...
So, thusfar, I have detailed quotes from Chevy Chase, Rosenthal, Pohanka, and Tisher...

Hi Richard Toussaint, I would like to introduce myself. My name is X Y and I am the e-Commerce Manager for Karen Radley. The information I have received from you is that you are looking for a new or pre-owned SUV is that right? I have many new and pre-owned Certified Acuras in stock that might be the SUV your looking for. How does your schedule look this week for you to come in and have a look around at our inventory? I look forward to speaking with you soon. I can be reach via mobile at 703-XXX_XXXX. X Y e-Commerce Manager Karen Radley Acura
Wow, that really stinks. I have received quotes from Pohanka and Radley as well. Based on your experience I will make sure that I double and triple check the numbers by phone before going to the dealership. Why don't you try and speak with the general manager of the dealership (not just the guy's manager) and if you cannot get the price that they agreed to, go above their heads - there must be a way to reach Karen Radley. I suspect that she would want to know the unprofessionalism exhibited by the folks working in her dealerships (and she clearly could authorize the price). Another idea - Pohanka said that they will always undercut any written deal by $200. Maybe you should forward this email chain to them and ask if they can beat or match the numbers (and then just buy it from them). Pohanka has been far more professional with me (and responsive) than Radley. I think that the bit about Acura taking away incentives is laughable. Pohanka, for example, has about 300 MDXs sitting on their lots - all dealers want to move the 2008s to make way for the 2009s - I wonder if we will start seeing even better incentives now that we are in August.
someone really has to take the dishwasher and lock him back in his poweless tailgate car. this forum is about sharing prices and real-life experience on a MDX and all he does is diss other posters. you should take your own advice and listen to your own negative karma.
I'd read a few posts by dishwasher about how PTG is bad for everyone. I'll bet he/she is just trying to justify having not opted for the PTG, now that he/she regrets not opting for it.
I got the ptg. The dealer tried to give me one without it for $500 less. I insisted, I WANT to spend the extra $500.
It's so convenient when unloading stuff, don't have to pick stuff up from the trunk, put them on the floor, close the tail gate, then pick the stuff back up. With the PTG, I just press the button, grab the stuff, and go. Yes you only have 2 seconds after pressing the button to grab your stuff, so perhaps dishwasher is not agile enough to do that
I registered just to post this, to justify my spending extra 500 for the PTG
I like the '07 and newer body style MDX; but my upper limit price-wise is about $28K. The cheapest I've seen advertised on autotrader is about $31, $32 ish.
Is upper $20's for an '07 model realistic? I'm not going to buy right now; it would be either this fall or even during the winter months. Anyone with experience buying a used '07 model, or even any used car salespeople, I'd be interested to hear your comments.
If I can't get the MDX for the upper 20's, the next choice is an '04 BMW X5 for low 20's.
You should definitely go back to the dealer with those emails printed out, find the general manager and tell him that if they do not honor the price they quoted you that you will retain an attorney AND report them to Acura's North American headquarters, the BBB and the NH state Attorney General's office. Plus, you should tell them that you will be posting these emails on every blog, forum and automotive internet website you can find to inform the public about their unethical and illegal practices. This is not the case of them telling you they have several cars and can find one you that suits your interests for as little as... This is a case of them quoting you a specific price for a specific car, they didn't say come down and we'll see what we can do, or that price seems reasonable, they actually said the price is confirmed. There is no wiggle room in this, especially since they said they would secure the car for you, meaning they also understood that they were discussing a specific car and not one of several cars that matched or were close to what you wanted.
See how fast they find you a black/ebony Sport after that.
Just got a quote for 41500 + tax/lic for 2008 MDX in LA with sport/tech. Wanted to see if you guys think its a good deal. I am very happy with this dealer. Its a 3.9% APR finance and the sport boards thrown in as well.
Can anyone else confirm that the MDX incentive went upto $3,500? I just exchanged emails with a dealer and she said she was not aware of any changes. Not that I expect the dealer to be forthcoming about these sorts of things.

Happy hunting everyone.
Take care
Now I wound up taking the car for $40050 (this excludes tax and all other fees its just the agreed sale price) with the 3.9% financing. (Its only $1500 cash back if you take the 1.9/36 or 3.9/60). Talking to the dealer when I picked up my car it is clear inventory on these trucks is very high and the 09s are already on the way. I would think the deals are only going to get better. Hurry to get your end of month deals
Hope this helps!
Good Luck
Got a price quote of $37,900 from an Acura dealer in Boston area (Mass). Wondering if you guys think it is a good deal?. (This price, I am told, includes the destination package and the only thing I need to pay would be sales tax, title, etc).
Is this a good price or better deals out there?. Also when is 2009 models expected.
Thanks for the help
Andy
Does this price include Power Tail gate? If yes, it is a very good deal. Be careful, when you visit them, most will add 'Doc fee' or 'dealer fee' crap.
I was told by a dealer here that there may be some additional incentives in Aug from Acura. Not sure whether this will happen, but if you are prepared to play waiting game, you can get a better price, but may not get the color of your choice.
Here in Atlanta, I got a price of 38K that includes PTG, Side boards, wheel nut etc. I am going to wait.
Go to the dealer website and check their inventory online. If they have 50+, they may not be able to clear all of those before the new 2009 comes. In such situations you can get a better deal.
Happy Shopping to Everyone!
That is a Great buy; Your price of 39422 is 7200 below the MSRP and 3000 below invoice. Good job. How did you negotiate? Lots of haggling?
What kind of financing did you get? Is the total $39,422.25 after the financing rebate?
Inventories seem high (3 dealers in my area have 75+ new '08 MDXs each - which includes all models, about half seem to be techs & tech/ents), but is it a pipe dream to hope there will be anything left by November/December?
Not sure if after a couple months w/ '09s out (which I've started to see now on inventory at 1 dealer), they'll flush their inventories through some other channel besides their own dealership?
Curious what others think and if I'm going to miss out on deals & be looking at higher prices in November/December once all the '08s are flushed.
Thanks.
The 39,422 is pretty much the same as what I paid for mine, but I used the financing so +$1000 and added about $1500 in accessories and was out the door at 42k+tax
I think you can pretty much get every dealer down to that right now, and anything beyond it is gravy.
Looking to buy one with the sport/ent pkg. I think a price around 42K + taxes/stuff might be good. what do you think? Also the 3.9/60 mo APR will be good.....let me know your thoughts. Much appriciated.
Thanks,
Peeter
This is the invoice:
Total Price:33700
Trade-in:5200
Total Taxable Amount:28500

NJ Supplemental Titling Fee:134.80
Tire Tax:7.50

My question is "NJ Supplemental Titling Fee" is valid one or not? Documentary Fee is high or low??
Thanks for any reply to my questions in advance.

Absolutely,
And the reason I have not called you is because you specifically told me you rather do business through email so I want to honor your request and get this buying process behind you.
I have a MDX for you priced at $33,748 plus Freight($715), tags($59.50),Va taxes($1104.03) and our processing fee of $385 which brings you total of $36,011.53.
You live just down the street from us, your my neighbor so I have to have you advertising Karen Radley!=)
Lets get you in your new MDX so that you can start enjoying your new SUV!
What time can you make it up to see us tonight?
Sincerely,
X

Appreciate it - and I'm willing to work with you on that to get a sale completed by end-of-month. I don't believe I've received a quote from Radley yet so, I would like to start with a quote from you that shows me the price+delivery, tax, title, tags, processing fees - if that is works for you. If I've already received a quote - my apologies - I'm looking at the emails from you, if there was something that was autogenerated, I don't seem to have it.
Thanks!

Richard,
Sounds like you have done your research and shopping around for the best deal...which I would be doing as well if I were in the market.
What is the deal I need to make with you to have you driving home tonight in a MDX.
What is the MDX you are looking to buy?
Sincerely,
X
---------- Original Message ----------
Understand where you are coming from.

Rich,
To be honest with you...Acura is most likely going to discontinue many incentives being that the 2008 Acura inventory has decreased from last month.
When might you be available to come in so we can meet?
Supply and demand usually dictates the price but I can send you an email first thing in August if you don't have the time to make it in this month.

X,
I'm still in the market, however, would you happen to know if there are going to be additional incentives for August?
Thanks,
Rich

Hello Rich,
Welcome back and Im glad to know you are safe.
The Managers are very motivated to move our 08 inventory and we would love to beat any deal you receive from other dealers... Especially Pohanka.
Please don't go over to the darkside!=)
Karen Radley is known for exceeding customers expectations and thats why we are number one in customer service and we also have the number one Acura Service department in the country because of that.
Unfortunately at Pohanka you are going to be treated as just another number.
Are you availab
le to meet up this week or this weekend so you can receive the service and deal you want and deserve?
I look forward to talking with you soon,
X
---------- Original Message ----------
X,
back now - thanks - much appreciated - you come recommended from the Edmunds board. So, I'm looking for the MDX Sport in black w/ or w/o the power tailgate and bordeaux interior... although I understand that is rare, so I've been talking with Pohanka about Black/Black...
Let me know what you can do...
Thanks,
Rich

Rich,
Alright the dogs are down....I will refrain from calling your phone and if email works best for you we can certainly do just that.
I understand, I am sorry I was a bother to you.
When will you be back in town?
Regards,
X
---------- Original Message ----------
X,
I imagine you got my number off the car drawing entry - I knew that was a mistake... Please call off the dogs: I absolutely cannot have my phone tied up. eMail will be just fine as a way to contact me. Happens again: we won't be doing business... I'm really not a difficult person - I just do not want people calling me on my cell.
Thanks,
Rich

I got the ptg. The dealer tried to give me one without it for $500 less. I insisted, I WANT to spend the extra $500.
It's so convenient when unloading stuff, don't have to pick stuff up from the trunk, put them on the floor, close the tail gate, then pick the stuff back up. With the PTG, I just press the button, grab the stuff, and go. Yes you only have 2 seconds after pressing the button to grab your stuff, so perhaps dishwasher is not agile enough to do that
I registered just to post this, to justify my spending extra 500 for the PTG
Is upper $20's for an '07 model realistic? I'm not going to buy right now; it would be either this fall or even during the winter months. Anyone with experience buying a used '07 model, or even any used car salespeople, I'd be interested to hear your comments.
If I can't get the MDX for the upper 20's, the next choice is an '04 BMW X5 for low 20's.
See how fast they find you a black/ebony Sport after that.
