Just bought 08 MDX entertaiment at Acura of Peoria, AZ.
    Paid $45K otd.
Now it has 13k miles and the service light is on
The dealer said its gonna cost me $480 for this regular maintenance.

I should've pick a beemer with free service up to 50k miles

Yes, I know it works really good; although I had two incidents already. Can't protect me from me. It seems during the incidents, I was sitting on the keys. I was wondering what happened to the keys when the tailgate opened up by itself (LOL). I guess if you sit on the keys that'll open it up too (LOL).

    KamBam -

I'm getting ready to start dealing on a MDX SPORT/ENT ...

I am trying to back into your numbers so I am armed and ready. I think you have one of the best deals that I have seen.

Am I looking at your numbers right?

    MSRP - $48,755 + $700 (est sport run boards) = $49,455

    $49,455 - $40,500 (purchase price) = $8,955 Discount

Is that how I should see it and how did you arrive at that number with them in your negotiations? Can you advise?

Also, did your '08 have any mileage on it or was it new-new?

Any negotiating ideas, thoughts would be appreciated. So far, all of the deals I have seen are about $1,500-$3,000 higher than this for what I could get.

    TIA

e3uydl - Sorry for my delay, just back from vacation. Chevy Chase Acura came back with the lowest quote, but as someone after me mentioned, it's possible they could throw some extra fees on top when you get there. Frankel wasn't as cheap, but seemed fairly reputable. Hope that helps.
  • e3uydle3uydl Member Posts: 3
    thanks, bbaakd.

we live in the same dc metro area and i'm searching for the same package as u do. we might work together to get a better deal rather than individually...i guess dealers would like to see two mdx purchases together.
  • dishwash42dishwash42 Member Posts: 89
see this is what i mean by the power tailgate not being worth it and in fact actually a bad option to get. heck, probably lowers the resell value of the vehicle.

    hi everyone, very informative forum
Went today to the dealer with a folder full of info and he wasn't very amused to say the least

    Two questions

    1. Can we get the $3500 AND a lease from an Acura dealer?
We were told lease would be $2500off, that $3500 is if we buy the car with cash only

    2. We have an offer on 2008 base MDX

    $35,100
    $550 month
    36 months/15000 miles
    Money factor 0.00245/5.88%
    53% residual
    $800 @ inception - first payment + tag, dealer

    they had also tacked on
    window etching for $395
    nitrogen $95
and I forget what else, that of course they told us they'll wave

    thanks

    Hi Perlblue,
I did similar calculations but the difference was I started with invoice price. So my numbers (note numbers below are close but not 100% accurate) were

    invoice price = 44000 + dest
    cash back = 3500
neg start price = inv price - cash back

Remember the dealerships even have a holdback on the cars. You can eat into that as well.....and the salesman mentioned the sports boards cost them about 200$s or something below.

my MDX had 8 miles on it. I was afraid they'd give me one thats been driven before but no....they had 3 on the lot and I got to pick one with the lowest mileage.

I think I was lucky because I was able to get 2 dealerships competing. See if you can do that. What area are you trying to purchase.

Best of luck. Let us know how it goes.

    1. You can't get $3,500 in dealer cash AND an AHF lease. If you go with the AHF lease, you can get $2,500 off though. The AHF lease has a pretty good residual (53%) and a reasonable money factor (equating to ~5.9%). I am guessing it would be hard to find a better lease structure than that, what with lenders like Wells Fargo backing out of the leasing game entirely.

    2. Your payments seem high. To give you a sense of where you might be able to end up, I just leased a 2008 MDX w/ Tech and PTG in California for 3 years/10k miles (54% residual) for $525 (pre-tax) with $0 drive-off. Dealer threw in "Phantom Footprints" (etching on commonly-stolen parts) because it was already on the vehicle, wheel locks, and mats.

As for your vehicle, the invoice price is $36,514 on the Base Model. Add $715 destination charge and now you're at $37,229. Less $2,500 dealer cash, and you're at $34,729. If the dealer has a lot of inventory, you should be able to eat into their dealer hold-back -- probably by at least $729 (if not more) -- getting you to at least $34,000 cap cost. Even assuming $1500 in fees (TTL, bank fees, etc.), that still only comes out to $500/mo with $800 drive-off.

It's nice that they're waiving the window etching and nitrogen, but that really shouldn't factor into your deal -- hopefully you wouldn't have paid $500 for all of that anyway.

Not a bad idea. Regrettably, my time table is more likely a few months away (toward year end), but never hurts to look. Happened to look at Radley's website and they have 138 '08 MDXs. Wow - that's a lot of inventory! Maybe they will have some left by year end! Sounds like someone on the message board got burned by them, so might want to tread cautiously...just submitted internet quote request to see what they come back with.

First, the forum is very helpful...thanks every one for the information shared.

Will be picking up my MDX Tech & Ent tomorrow from Acura/Bridgewater NJ, Silver/Taupe... 38550 + ~300 Doc. fee ( wheel locks part of deal) + TTL...~ 42K OTD.

I am sure, I could 've pushed further...but in the end I am happy with the deal...spent about an hr at the dealer closing the deal. ...basically used Edumunds to request quotes from other dealers and Bridgewater being closest...asked them to see if they can match and they did.

Noticed that Tech & Ent stock is very low...however basic + Tech; ton's of inventory...probably an opportunity to get even better deals...

    Happy shopping...:-)

I bought an 08 MDX Sport/Ent. I had already bought by the time I saw your post KamBam ...

I didn't get as good a deal as you did but I feel good about it. I think I was in the $6.5-$7k range off msrp + I added accessories.

I think this is a wonderful car and maybe the best I've owned. I haven't had time to figure all of the electronics out but I've played some DVDs and the DVD-A demo disc is amazing to listen too (too bad you can't find me any DVD-As around!) and listening to my kid's watch a movie ... the sound quality is great IMHO.

Quickly - I ended up at $44k OTD not including TTL .... added tow hitch, tint, sport boards, rails and maybe a few other little items. About $2.5k for accessories or so.

btw, mine had about 8 or 10 miles on it too ...

I only have 1 dealer in our area otherwise I have to travel 2 to 4 hours to find a larger quantity of dealers. And, I talked to them but it wasn't worth driving that far and then dealing. Glad I bought local as of right now - seemed to treat me fair or I feel that way!!

I bought a Tech/PTG w/sidebody molding and wheel locks for 37,800 (all inclusive) plus tax and title at Jackson. Lots of MDXs on dealers lots around town and none of them moving, but nobody willing to deal. It might get a little better towards the end of the month but I got the impression that they are all willing to sit on these cars for a while (months?).
  • movvacmovvac Member Posts: 4
    dhhinc,
Is the price you paid with the finance incentive from AHFC or you secured finance separately. I am getting Tech+PTG for 37650+TTL (wheel locks+all weather floor mats included free)with the new 2.99 APR for 60 months.(Changed from 3.99 to 2.99 today). I see that you got side moldings in your price and I am going to pay extra $300 that would put me around $38000+TTL. I am not sure if I should bargain a little bit or take the deal.
  • kambamkambam Member Posts: 13
    Hey Pearlblue,
Glad u are enjoying the car and feel happy with the deal. The electronics....man u can keep digging for a long time till you've run through the entire list. I am into my 250 miles range now....just curious though...did your car get into the 20 MPG range at all? I did a 120 mile trip yesterday and it is yet to go beyond the 16.5 MPG in the trip computer....I am attributing it to something about the "break in" period.

Oh ya...love the 10 speaker audio...think it is one of the better ones in the class.
  • kambamkambam Member Posts: 13

It was a cash deal. Your price would be $37000 on an apples-to-apples basis vs. my $37800. I can't imagine you doing much better than that but why not try? My objective was to get to $37300 but I don't think I could have gotten there with the current incentives.
  • peachmanpeachman Member Posts: 3
Sounds like a great price. I am actually looking for the same car. I haven't gone through the pricing in Northern Ca.

Does anyone know AHF offer any special rate for 72mos financing? I want to keep my payment at about $460 a month. I have my bank offered 5.19% which seems high. See, you can get a 0% for 72 months for an American SUV now......

    Any idea? :P

Hi, im someone from the chicagoland and, im a high mileage driver. But i own a business and can write off a vehicle. I got a quote on a 2008 Acura Mdx Tech w. PTG: 36 mo, 30K a year, 0 Down, 1st payment and lic due. @ 764.80. Is this a good price?
  • soccerandlostsoccerandlost Member Posts: 50
I would think in an area like Boston that you can get a better deal than that. Sticker is $37,229 (including destination charge). Dealer cash reduces that by $3500 ($2500 if you use AHF). That brings you down to $33,729 ($34,729 if you use AHF). Plus, given the volume of 2008's on the lots, the decreased demand for SUVs, and the arrival of the 2009's, you should probably be able to eat into at least some of the dealer holdback. You might be able to walk away with as low as $33k ($34k if you use AHF) plus TTL.
  • soccerandlostsoccerandlost Member Posts: 50
Actually, bank financing at 5.19% is pretty darn good right now. I haven't seen many banks below 5.9%. In fact, 5.9% seems to be the more common credit union rate as well. Even USAA -- which is generally pretty competitive -- is at 5.64% for their best rates (and I doubt that's for 72 mos).
  • soccerandlostsoccerandlost Member Posts: 50
Depends. What are they telling you the residual for a 3yr/90k lease is, and what MF are they giving you?
  • austinpoweraustinpower Member Posts: 11
I am looking in Houston area and wondering if anybody had any recent experience. I would like to know the price and name of the dealer and your overall experience during buying the car.

    Hi,

I'm in Memphis that only has one Acura dealer so getting really good deals has been troublesome. However I have Emailed 6 or so dealerships within ~300 miles and everyone is giving me invoice + $500, after the $3500 incentive. This is on the base model, and the tech + PTG.

Anyone getting any better deals in the mid-south/Atlanta area?
  • kambamkambam Member Posts: 13
I am sorry I cannot comment on the deals in that area but man....inv + 500 seems way too high. Did you try to see what sort of inventories they have? My belief is that the $3500 cash back must be take out from the inv price not the MSRP.
  • sanjaysdcasanjaysdca Member Posts: 269
    Have you tried carsdirect.com?

For zipcode 38119 it gives $36790 for base...

An alternative would be to fly to SoCal and buy it 2K less...make a vacation out of it.

My wife and I have been looking at crossover/SUV's for about 3 months.......considered the GM's (Acadia, Outlook), the Mazda CX-9, the Land Rover LR3, and now have been looking hard at the 2007-2008 MDX as a candidate. What type of prices are people seeing in the Seattle/Tacoma area? I haven't been to the dealers yet.....just trying to decide if we should go 2007 or 2008..........Acura is offering 2.9 on certified used and I have found a few 2007's with under 9k miles..........with tech and sport pkgs..........Is the cash back being discussed available in all areas of the country? Can you get it with the 2.9 financing on a new purchase? Any insight would be great!
  • p2potterp2potter Member Posts: 7
Yeah, I have looked at a lot of online numbers and my local dealer just indicated to me that I might get invoice price. They indicated to me earlier in the day that they do not do invoice pricing but having checked their inventory and seen ~20 base models and a total of 81 2008s on their lot I think they might be reconsidering.

Just got a message on my answer machine saying that since I had got better quotes from other dealers they might be able to deal!

Hopefully I can get all of the numbers in place before I go see these guys. They do not sound like great guys, but my next nearest dealer is ~150 miles away.

Hi folks, my dealer is offering the following prices for the 2008 MDX with tech package (all prices include wheel locks for free):

If paying cash: $35,900 + TTL
    If 1.9/3.9 financing: $36,900 + TTL

Also prices if I wanted PTG as well:
If paying cash: $36,450 + TTL
    If 1.9/3.9 financing: $37,450 + TTL

Does this appear to be a good deal? Or should I hold out for a better deal? Also, does anyone have thoughts as to what I should be able to pay for roof racks and rails? Thanks everyone!
  • lukas4lukas4 Member Posts: 12
Is the financing still 1.9/3.9% or has it changed? Thanks!
  • sdkarsdkar Member Posts: 4
I bought a 2008 Acura MDX Sport with PTG (power tail gate). This car MSRP is $47105. I was told it would go down to $39640. It eventually came out to $42912 Out The Door. I got $2400 for my trade in, which of course seemed low. I then added the 6year/100K bumper to bumper warranty. The final deal came out to $42350. I received financing at 2.9% with a monthly payment of $760 for 60 months. No money out of pocket...just the trade in. Any thoughts?

Please email me with any comments to my email address below. I have until Thursday evening (8/14) to deny the contract if I want.

    Thanks,

    Steve

I am about to pull the trigger on an 08 base MDX. After negotiations, I have a couple of options...

Base Model MDX - Color and Interior I like with 2.9% financing.

    -or-

Dealer Demo Base Model MDX - Color and Interior I like with 2.9% financing. Has ~5000mi, in service 12/07. Certified Pre-Owned, so longer warranty period overall. Looks to be in good shape. Price is $1,200 less than a new MDX.

At first pass, I thought the new was a slam dunk. Now after a little thought, the extended warranty and price savings might not be a bad deal. Thoughts?

Thanks - these forums have been helpful!

let's only talk about the price of the car without accessories and warranties.

$40640 is about where i negotiated my sport with PTG with special financing, (this was last month with the $1500 incentive). if you telling me you got the sport for $39640 which included the special acura financing, i'd say you did pretty well.

i'm not sure what they got you for warranty but i can't see them beating bernardi's online price.
  • vavavoomvavavoom Member Posts: 42
please....i know it's CPO and all that jazz but this is a demo with 5000 miles. i wouldn't touch this little tramp who's been ridden to the bone for such a putrid discount. i would never buy a demo but you'd need to entice me with at least a discount double that.

I was given a quote for a 2008 Technology: $1999 down, 15k miles a year, 3 year lease, $575 a month including tax. This info maybe vague but I am not sure what the total price/invoice/msrp/etc is. Does this seem like a good deal or can I push further? Thanks in advance.

I ended up buying a '08 Mazda CX-9 Grand Touring, but if someone in MA / RI / CT area is interested, I can share couple of dealers' contacts who was able to work with me towards 32,700-32,995 price for '08 MDX Base. Email me sleepybubba@gmail.com. :shades:

Thanks to everyone on this forum for the great information and support!

I have come across a few dealers that have a new '07 Tech/Ent still in their inventory (still waiting verification on what "new" means to them). What would be a realistic starting point for my negotiation?

Edmunds.com data suggests TMV around $37,500 for an '07 Tech/Ent w/ virtually no miles on it & in outstanding condition. Seems high given I could snag an '08 for not too much more.

Any thoughts? I assume I can negotiate all of the rebates apply as for new '08s?

I got a quote from the fleet manager at Metro Acura in CA. 36400 plus fees for a tech with power tailgate. No special financing wonder if that is the best deal out there?
  • jessie12jessie12 Member Posts: 6
Hi there - this forum has been excellent in helping me determine the best price available. I live in the bay area and have narrowed down to two models:

    - Tech - $36,378.00 (Cash price) + fees + taxes
    - Tech + Entn: 38,188.00 (Cash Price) + fees equals $41,756.05 out the door

The best price that i have found on the warranties is $1795 for 7/100 K. Are the warranties (valid in California) available at a better price anywhere else?

    Thanks,

    Jessie
