My situation is that, I have negotiated a price of $38,000 + Tax & Title for the Acura MDX w/Tech Pkg & PTG. The price includes dest. charge and the manufacturer dealer cash ($2500)
Now that Acura has increased the incentive to $3500, is it fair to assume that I can negotiate to $1000 less than the last offer price ($37,000). Could anyone comment on this ? Appreciate it !
Just picked up an 08' tech/ent, only dealer option was roof rails and cross bars. Had a good experience with Bridgewater Acura in NJ. Minimal BS and they beat my best price (which I used this forum to formulate)
MSRP 46,600 Roof rails about 800 my price $39,800 before tax and all those fees
that's exactly what i would do - re-negotiate for a thousand less at a minimum. If you haven't signed the papers, there is no deal. Imho, dealer cash is there to help them clear the cars off the lots, it's not there to pad the dealer's bottomline b/c honda feels generous. If the dealership was originally willing to give you all the dealercash in last month's promo, they most likely will give you that $1,000 if you bother to ask.
Btw, never be afraid to walk away if you feel the negotiations aren't going your way. when i bought my sport a month ago, i actually shook hands with the manager, but 15 minutes later, changed my mind when i realized they were overcharging for some accesories. It's easy to miss the details and facts if you start adding accessories you never intended in the first place - bloody rookie mistake. manager called back an hour after i left and i got the price i really wanted without the b.s. dealer-priced accessories. Moral of the Story - pick a price you will pay and never be afraid to walk - just like the housing market, the sellers are backed against the wall, savor it and squeeze them for all they're worth (just remember the ridiculous MSRP-only days to elminate any empathy).
Good news seems like. I see in Edmund's web site, New Incentives today for 2008 MDX for total of $3500. Any dealer has confirmed this? I believe earlier it was 2500.
I made a deal today at Jackson Acura in Roswell for a Tech/PTG w/sidebody molding and wheel locks for 38,300 (all inclusive) plus tax and title. I thought the incentive was still 2,500 and thought I had a good but fair price. Then I found out on this forum that it had been bumped to 3,500 right before I went over to sign the papers. I called the sales manager who knew it had been bumped to 3,500 (but didn't tell me) and said that it was already in his offer. So we are still 1k apart and I am not comfortable with his ommission on the rebate. I think it's time to move on.
Can anybody recommend another dealer in the area where they were able to obtain a good deal with a minimum of hassle?
in tx, ok markets ... dealer i am dealing with is telling me they are -- approx $6000 to $6500 off msrp.
dealer said would do dealer cost on all accessories if I wanted. Thought I could take all the rebates etc + get fairly could %APR but we haven't gotten that far in the process yet.
I'm considering base, tech+ent or sport+ent models.
most likely will not trade-in.
how does that $6k-$6.5k off msrp sound to everyone?
was thinking that if I could get a base mdx for $35k'ish or fully loaded sport-ent for around $41-42k'ish then those are pretty good prices. You can't even get a new 09 Pilot for that.
they are low on tech/ent and sport/ent models but they can get them. they said if they had to get one, it would be around the $6k off msrp price.
guy seems like a straight-shooter but never dealt with the dealer before.
let me know how this sounds to everyone. I'm trying to go back and re-read all these posts but hadn't seen one specifically talking about OFF-MSRP pricing yet.
edit: oh, i would have to add TTL after purchase ... and I bet they have some sort of "fees" that I'm not aware of when "closing the deal" but haven't gotten that far yet.
1) First of all I would not negotiate from MSRP, but from Invoice. 2) Start with Invoice less Cash rebates 3) For MDX Tech with PTG, I got 7000 below invoice last week, but now with new additional incentives from Honda, i am looking at around 8500 below invoice 4) The Reality is there are two many MDX in dealer lots and very few buyers with high gas prices.
Sethnaga ... wow. Impressive #s. So, you had a new 08 Tech/PTG for around $33k? To me, that is extremely good! Please confirm if that is what you are describing?
I'm sending some inquiries to some out of state/area dealers and will see what I can get back from them to help my negotiations.
Was in Brooklyn, NY on business today and tried to buy an MDX on Acura of Brooklyn. The dealer wouldn't budge beyond $34,500. He said, Brooklyn is a different planet and people don't even negotiate there. So in his chicken brain, the deal he offered sounded tremendous. Oh well, Boston, here I am back again.
Just a quick note to thank you all for helping me decide on the purchase of the Acura 2008 MDX w/Tech Pkg & PTG. Got it home yesterday.
Finally negotiated price was $37,500 + Tax and Title, around $40K Out the Door. This comes with a lifetime Oil change, Wheel Locks and Window Tint. Thats the best I could bargain. Thought it was a good deal compared to, if I had bought before Aug 1st, which would have been an additional $500.
This forum has been very useful. Thanks to everyone. All the best.
We just leased a 2008 Acura MDX w/ Tech & PTG yesterday. MSRP was $44,960 inc. destination charge. Cap cost/Purchase price was ~$36k (w/ fees and TTL adjusted cap cost is about $37k).
I was told the $3500 dealer cash is for non-AHF sales or leases. Through AHF (which is how we did it), you can get $2500 dealer cash. You can also eat into the dealer holdback.
In terms of buyer experience, I highly recommend Acura 101 West for those in Southern Cal. It truly was a pleasurable car-buying experience -- much of which was accomplished by email and over the phone before we even test-drove the car (we had friends who loved it, though, so we weren't flying blind). No "I need to check with my manager," no good-cop, bad-cap, no last-minute changes to the deal. Just a fair deal, and a quick and painless process once we closed the deal.
Hello Soccerandlost, I am not familiar with the lease terminology. I am trying to buy MDX San antonio, TX , where there is only one dealer and the best I could bargain for MDX Tech+PTG is $37400 which includes $3500 incentives if I finance it from my bank. But seeing your post I think I am paying around $1500 more than what you paid as your capcost?? is $36000. Can you please suggest if I can go ahead with the deal or not. :confuse:
I don't know what the car market's like in TX, but it sounds like your local Acura dealer has a bit of a monopoly. Here in LA, I think you could probably get a better deal than that, particularly if the dealership is sitting on a lot of MDXes and you want a color combination that they want to unload (I've noticed a *lot* of silver and black MDXes sitting on the lots out here).
Sticker on the MDX w/ Tech and PTG comes to $44,960 including destination (they've dropped their destination charge by $45 to $715 compared to what Edmunds says). INVOICE comes to $40,900 including destination. Using the $3,500 dealer cash gets you to $37,400. But there's still a dealer holdback that gives the dealer profit. I don't know how much it is, but I was given nearly $1000 in additional discounts and was told that it was out of the dealer holdback. That would get you closer to $36,000.
The '09s started arrived on dealer lots last Friday. Between gas prices, the new model years, and the over-supply, Acura dealers are selling the '08 models at a loss. That said, they are now a year old so personally I would be careful about buying an '08 without a significant discount to make up for the fact that it's already a year older... That's one of the reasons we leased -- the residual rate on the '08 does not seem to reflect the year-end change, and the money factor equates to about as good a new car loan rate as I've been able to find except through the auto manufacturer's captive finance companies (which don't let you use all of the dealer cash, so you pay more for the vehicle).
Also, it sounds like you need to show the Acura dealer that you're not wedded to the MDX and may consider other options. That may get him to loosen his price...
Geekdog, that is a terrific price. Did that price apply if you were financing as well (taking advantage of the 1.9 or 3.9 percent financing)? Or just if you pay cash for the car? I am planning to purchase an MDX this week and just want to be armed with information! Thanks!
Not sure if that was terrific!, I already see a $36,0000 quote in the above messages. But till Sep 2nd, you can easily shoot for $37,000 without any hassle. I took $500 hit knowingly.... as I was offered free lifetime oil service, something called a Nitrogen for the tire pressure monitors for lifetime, wheel locks, window tint... and I got a little bit tired of haggling, good cop/bad cops game.. the sales people play .. however, my overall experience was good with the dealer compared to other dealers in Houston. And I took financing from outside.
Have a game plan, visit all the dealers and have a general comfort level established. There is a lot of good articles/other information in edmunds.com. Workout the OTD price with every dealer. As someone pointed out be ready to walk out at anytime before you actually sign the deal.
If you are in Houston, check John Eagle Acura (johneagleacura.com) ask for Brian Simpson. Very good guy to work with.
I bought MDX with Technology Package & Entertainment Package & Power Tail Gate & Chrome side bars for $39,100 excluding tax, tiltle and doc fees ($599) on July 31st. Based on these posts some of you have less. What do you think of this price?
without buying one yet but shopping. I think you did fine. $500-$1500 +/- for me is not that huge of a hit especially if you got some accessories in the deal too. From invoice, it looks like you are in the $6-$7k off msrp range so I think you did fine. Like others, I only have one local dealer but expanded my search. I think my local dealer is actually treating me very fairly but probably going to get more into the hunt this week.
For a cash price it was a decent deal before the dealer incentives were increased on Aug 2. I bought July 18 for my wife's bday (and was very particular on color/interior/package, so couldnt wait) and the deal I got was $39,500 tech/ent cash without my addons or $40,500 with financing and no addons. I ended up with 42k out the door with chrome side steps, front/rear bumper garnish, touch up paint, & moonroof visor.
Unfortunately, if you had waited two days you probably could have gotten an even better deal though
Does anyone have insight into dealers in Phoenix or Tucson? I'm starting the negotiation process and want to know if there is any dealer I need to be wary of.
This forum is very informative and has been a great research tool. Thanks to all who have posted.
Bought a Sport/Ent 2008 MDX (with sport running boards) for 40500 (incl dest) + tax + lic. I am so happy with the deal, (never thought i'd say this but) the dealer and the car. Got the 3.9% APR. The APR was the most difficult one to get. I think the fact that another dealer was competing for the same business helped getting the price down.
Going by the other posts, I think its a good deal.
The Dealership is Acura 101 West in calabasas. No sales pitches, no B/S, no unexpected "fees" cropping up in the final amount. Recommend this dealer to anyone looking to buy an acura. Their inventory is very big as well.
What dealer in NJ did you work with? Im looking at the base model too and hopefully I can get $1000 less than your quote since you got it before the new August incentives.
BTW, anyone use Acura of Ocean in nj? They are the closest dealer to me and I was wondering if anyone had experience with them. Thanks
Greetings...anyone from the Puget Sound area purchase a 2008 MDX Sport Package out of state as of late? The dealers up here are horrible to deal with...seems like the California dealership are far better to deal with. I don't have much experience with purchasing a vehicle out of washington. Can anyone recommend a Northern California dealership by any chance? Thanks...more power to all in this forum with their new MDX!!!
Hi Perblue, The finicing is from Honda. Its for 60 months. I got the white/tan ext/int combo. Been looking for a white one for a while. never owned a white car before. It drives real nice.....the sluggish acceleration takes a little getting used to but once you are over it...eats up the road like nothing else.
I dont think it'll be too hard to get the deal I got. Best of luck.
Hi akin. preppyladynj is right. Acura raised the dealer cash that it is providing on the MDX by $1,000 in August, to $3,500. If you would rather finance, Acura is providing 1.9%-3.9% special financing or $2,500 on it.

Hi akg4y. Both the MDX's regular dealer cash and its Honda Finance bonus cash increased for the month of August. Acura is now providing $3,500 dealer cash or 1.9%-3.9% special financing plus $2,500 on it.

Hmm strange  . Sent emails to the dealers in the Boston area for '08 Base. So far none of them seem to be willing to give up the additional $1000 in dealers' cash never mind their holdback. Anyone in Boston area was able to get an offer considering a bump up in dealers' cash?
Did you send emails to them directly or go through Edmunds for a price quote? I've found that I got much better responses, deal-wise, going through Edmunds than emailing directly. Before we decided the third row was just a bit too tight for our liking I had Acura of Boston, Acura of Peabody and Herb Connolly, all going against each other. Acura of Peabody was the lowest and most easy to deal with, but also the furthest from us.
The salespeople at Acura of Boston were the pushiest and also lied, saying that the only difference between the Sport and Tech was the suspension. I said, "what about the leather and xenons?" and the guy said, "Oh yeah, those too, but why would you want to spend extra for that?" Then I asked if I could take one out and he said they didn't have any on the lot. I hate when sales people try to push you into something even after you've told them what you want. He could have just said we don't have any Sports on the lot right now instead of wasting 45 minutes of my time.
I sent emails through Edmunds. The Acura of Boston has the largest number of MDXs on the lot out of the whole MA - and they are the ones that have not responded (along with both Prime Acuras in Walpole and NH). The Prime Acura in Walpole is literally on my back yard and I have spoken with one of their dealers about a month ago and really liked his attitdue and knowledge. Now I am not sure if I should email him directly or try a mass email via Edmunds again.
The lowest offer so far I got from Sunnyside in NH, although I would much rather prefer buying from Prime in Walpole.
Did you go back to the dealer yet? I'm curious how your issue will get resolved. I'm surprised you got so few responses, it made me furious to read how they deliberately deceived you. I had a similar situation at a dealer once and immediately reported the salesman and the manager to the general manager, VP, and owner of the dealership. I got a written apology and an offer in writing to sell me the car at the price I was quoted. Its one thing for the salesperson to say he made a mistake and the price he quoted was incorrect, anyone can make an honest mistake. However, its a completely different thing to try to sell you a different car than what you had agreed to and been promised.
Rather than plucking money down on a 2008 MDX, is there any reason (features/functions) that one should wait for a 2009 MDX to come out? Intelligent key support?? Updated hard disk NAVI?? Improved engine horsepower?? New tire/sheetmetal design??
Check your junk email box. When I was shopping I thought that alot of dealer's were not responding until I found their messages in the spam blocker after I had purchased. :surprise:
bubba, acura of boston is a big dealersip with 3 sales managers, 2 of which you may not want to deal with, the one i dealt with was courteous, professional and more than willing to make a deal. e-mail me segdell at gmail.com if you'd like who i dealt with.

Is it safe to assume there will not be any deals on the 09's until dealers get rid of the 08's?
Has anyone on the forums purchased an 09?
