Woteva, lets say you get the dealer to 35 or 36 on an 08 tech w ptg. How would this translate to a lease (0 down 36m 12k) and would they be willing to lease it at that low a number? Also, my dealer has an 08 tech demo with 9000 miles on it. What would be a good price for that truck?
I purchased an 08 MDX Base in MD (suburban Washington DC) the end of last week. I paid $33,200, which included destination and processing fees, but did not include MD tax, title and tags. The information provided in this forum was extremely helpful. Thanks you to all. I emailed several dealers in the Northern Virginia and Maryland area at the beginning of last week, and received a few quotes in this ballpark. I think I could have gone a few hundred dollars lower but a lot of 08 MDX's were moving off the lots last week, and I was trying to make sure my preferred color was still available.
dc7900, nice work! I agree I will never buy another car without using this board, I tell all my friends, whatever kind of car they are looking for to go here first. I also agree that one shouldn't be afraid of paying an extra couple hundred bucks to get the color you want. The best advice I have heard regarding that is not to tip your hat to the dealer about the color you are looking for too early, esp. if it is a popular color that is hard to find.
I wouldn't touch a demo. Especially with 9k on it. You don't know how that car has been ridden (no matter what they say) also, I thought the demos were limited to 5k. maybe that's just a toyota rule. about the leasing... I'm dumb on that subject - sorry.
What have others paid for a 2008 MDX Sport PTG? What should be our starting number when negotiating with a dealership in Delaware?
We have only once found a dealership in NJ willing to accept the 20% off MSRP offer although they did not have our desired color combination. We also found a dealership in Chevy Chase, MD willing to deduct the $4K incentive off his invoice and also cut deep into his holdback.
Exactly how would the 2% holdback and advertising fees be calculated? Do you think it would it be to our advantage to wait and negotiate a deal closer towards the end of the month (perhaps Black Friday)?
I am having a hard time even finding an 08 MDX. I live in the Philadelphia Pa area. Some dealer have them listed online in inventory, but when I contact them they are all gone. If anyone knows a dealer in the PA, NJ, DE area with 08s left please let me know.
I went to Acura dealer yesterday and the sales manager showed me the screen in the end for an 08 base model. It's around $800. So I guess it should be 2% of the MSRP.
I also saw someone posted $1,500 for the holdback. Don't know how it came from.
I am looking to buy a new MDX with min of tech package. The local dealer has them listed for 44,960- 45,600 model year dependent. They have about 6 2008s on the lot. Wondering what you all think would be a good deal and what price I should start at. I am willing to travel a little within the TN/ KY area for the right price. Thanks for your help. email is 10beers@gmail.com
For an '08 MDX w/Tech, PTG, you should not pay more than $36,000 including all doc/adm fees & destination. The only money on top of the $36K would be tax & title/tag. I think someone else posted one about an Acura dealer somewhere in TN who was had a doc fee of $595. That is crazy. All the more reason to make sure when you give your offer to say your offer includes all their fees & charges. Let them write it up however they want. Good Luck.
I need some help from you all. I've bought one new car in my 41 years - a 2006 MDX Base model. I didn't haggle with the price - I was too green. Well, I'm still green... I want to trade in my MDX for an 08 Tech model. The listing price for those doesn't seem to be under $40k in my area. So, the thought of getting one for $36k seems impossible. I really want to get a good deal, but need a lot of tips. Can you help? Thanks in advance!
mdxrrrr has posted just about 2000 helpful tips for the car buyer. have you implemented even one of them? if not, [non-permissible content removed] off the couch and get on it.
I've read as much as I can over the past week. Thank you all for your posts. Normally, I have more time to do research but due to certain circumstances, I am under the gun to make a purchase. That said, I am looking at the MDX Basic.
My question is this: mdxrrrr mentioned above that you shouldn't pay more than $36K (plus Tax title) for an 2008 MDX w/ Tec, PTG. The MSRP, including Destination, for that car is $45,005, invoice at $40,946 according to edmunds. So, mdxrr is saying that you can get it for about $5k under invoice.
Now, I want the 08 MDX Basic. The MSRP is $40,995, and invoice at $37,724. Using the above model by mdxrrr as a reference point, do you guys think I can get the Basic for 32,774 $5k under invoice)? If I just told them, "Look, I'll give you $32K for it.", would I be insulting them or would that be in the ballpark?
If I just told them, "Look, I'll give you $32K for it.", would I be insulting them or would that be in the ballpark?
No you are not insulting him... Back in early sept I got an email offer from a dealer in orange county CA
Base 32574 Tech + PTG 36246
over the phone we agreed on $500.00 less for any car in stock. Salesman kept his word when we reach there.
I decided on Tech + PTG.. Went in there.. bought the car and was out in few hours... No negotiations were done at the dealership.. Only final test drive... etc. 35746 + 70 doc fee + TTL = 38880 OTD in California
If I would have gone with base it would be 32074 + 70 + TTL
$32k is totally a fair offer in my mind for base... In fact, someone in the post already had posted such a buy if I recall correctly...
Also, I actually had read all the posts since late September to set a target price for myself. Just in case it helps others, here is some of the low and high price points I had seen before on this post in one summary view.
2008 MDX Model Low High Target Price Base $32,000 $33,000 $32,500 Tech $35,000 $35,500 $35,500 Tech+PTG $36,000 $36,200 $36,000 Tech+Entertainment $38,000 $38,800 $37,500 Sport $37,500 N/A $37,500 Sport+PTG $37,150 $38,500 $38,000 Sport+Entertainment $39,700 $39,500
You can also see the target price I had set for myself above using this data, and also keeping reasonable deltas between the different packages. I bought it at my target price and my recommendation after going through the buying process is starting $500 below that and ensure you do not pay any documentation / processing type fees except tax/ttl.
jstbght, nice post with the pricing breakdowns. That should be helpful for a lot of shoppers.
Here is a good site for the aftermarket MDX stuff. (The items the dealers try to include in your purchase price at full list price, plus their labor) If you are a little handy most of it can easily be installed by yourself.
www.acurapartssuperstore.com
Before you place your order, I would recommend calculating the total cost of having it shipped to your house, and then call your local Acura parts department and see if they will meet the price. Several local dealers will do that, esp, if you are ordering more than one accessory. The parts prices aren't written in stone, they have a margin too.
Thanks guys for your replies. I want to give you an update. This MDX will be for my wife so I just wanted to have her drive it. So we went to the closest dealer to take one for a ride.
What we took for a drive was the following: 2008 MDX with Tech, PTG MSRP of $45,005. It is a loaner car with 7,000 miles on it. They would give 5 year 55,000 mile warranty (so warranty would go to 62,000 miles).
This dealer did not have the 2008 Basic; but asked if I would be interested in this loaner. I didn't have too much time to talk numbers. However, their offer on the car was $32,800.
Again, I wasn't there to haggle at that time. I told him I had other cars to look at it and I need to digest this offer first and will let him know what I think.
It may be just me, but I never liked loaner cars. However, this has very low mileage with full warranty. I would be turned off it had 13k or more miles on it.
As discussed in my prior post, I could probably get a brand new 2008 MDX Basic for around the same price of 32,800. So, this loaner gives me the Tech and PTG (which is about $4K more); however, it comes at the cost of having 7,000 miles. In other words, is adding the Tech and PTG an even tradeoff for the 7,000 miles?
What is the target price for 09 MDX Base + Sports+ Entertainments Who does it compare with RX 350? How much discount MSRP should I expect? I am from Los Angeles. Also, performance rating from what I read is average, can anybody shares their experience. Tks.
Was quoted $38,995 + TTL from John Eagle Acura in Houston, TX. Anyone recieved something better? Anyone know the exact dealer holdback on this vehicle? Any other negotiating help would be appreciated. I need real factual numbers to negotiate with. I need some firepower! Thanks !!
Hey everybody great posts and help.. negotiated last 2008 mdx tech+entertan with 250 miles on it (dealer trade) for $38,300 +TTL and 250 doc fee including all weather mats and trunk tray best price I could find in Ohio have not signed papers yet what do you think?
Dent, @ $38.3 you are right there with the best numbers that have been posted. You could offer him $38,000 and if he says no, tell him you'll split it @ $38,150. If you want to have a little fun. Wouldn't be too worried about 250 miles, you can put that on in the first couple days. Plus he has included a couple extras. But since it was driven off the lot, I would recommend really checking over the body and making sure all the paint is original and it hasn't had a panel or door repainted due to an fender bender. An easy way to tell is to look for swirells in the paint, that comes from a buffer.
I am planning to purchase an 08 MDX w/Tech and Ent. There are very few of these left anywhere so it is getting hard to find one. $38,995 + TTL was my quote so far. Would it be ridiculous for me to offer the same for the 09? If so, why? I know the 09 is obviously newer, but in reality does it really matter? What would be the most driving factors behind the dealer not wanting to give me an 09 for an 08 price given that they are both brand new and exactly the same??
joryan, I may be wrong, but I don't think Acura is giving the $4,000 cash incentive on the '09's. That is money from the mfg. to the dealer. If they aren't then, there should be at least a 4K difference in the bottom line.
Thanks mdxrrrrr for your advice I will definatley do a thorough exam of the vehicle By the way .9% 36 months and 2.9% 60 months are now available on 2009 MDX's..still $5000 difference after tax between 08's and 09's
Thanks jstbghtmdx for this summary. Thanks everyone here for your message.
I learnt the 0.9% financing on 2008 MDX (ends 12/1) and the price on the market from this thread. Jumped in for a Tech model for below $36,000 last Saturday. I started with the initial price from $35,500 at home (talking over the phone) as jstbghtmdx posted here. Dealer got back with a price between $35,500 and $36,000. Then I took it.
I'm in the San Francisco bay area. There are not too many 2008 model left in south bay. But there are still some in the surrounding area as not far as to Sacramento area. -- I didn't go that far but e-mailed them.
I do not post the specific dealer here. -- I think you may get a good deal from any dealer if they still have one in the lot.
One more point: do not pay the destination charge. It's included already. Good luck and keep posting!
You are right petert. I was wondering why the dealer quoted a higher msrp as compared to edmunds, and i did the math, and $760 was the difference. it was the destination the dealer included in the price. I was quoted a particular price + an additional $760. he tried to get me, but didn't!!
I'm about to pull the trigger the trigger on a 2009 MDX Sport w/ Entertainment Package. Was doing my research in the Maryland area and the best deal I got was $45,500 which includes the destination fee. Is this the best price I can get these days? I want to take advantage of the current financing deal.
Would also appreciate any input on accessories that are "must haves" for the MDX.
when you guys talk about the deal price 32K for a base or 35.7K for a tech, does it include any option or accessory?
Last week I start negotiation with a local dealer at 32K for a base but even failed the deal at 32.5K. The deal baiscally said 1) they can not compete with CA price, as CA dealer has much higher volume to profit with. 2) the local dealer said following options ared added and they don't want to pay technican again to uninstalled it:
so it looks like i got a reasonable deal 33.2K for a base with extra of roof rail, wheel lock, weather mat and cargo tray. I think i need to get a cargo cover from online store.
can not understand why tech pkg is so popular here, 3K+ for a navigation and rear camera is way too much.
The power tailgate is a factory installed feature and NOT an accessory. It is standard on the Tech and Sport models. If one wishes to not use the power feature, the tailgate can still be be operated manually.
The only way to buy a MDX today WITHOUT the power tailgate is to buy the Base model.
Madooba, as for recommended accessories, I'd suggest looking into the side moldings, side steps/running boards, roof rack rails, and all-weather mats as suggested options.
Hey guys, I haven't seen nearly as much on the 2009 deals...Here's the offer I got today at my local dealership.
2009 with the Tech Package -- from $44,700 down to $42,100 (dealer says they are only making $150 over invoice). 36 month lease @ the promo .90%, 12K miles with $0 down is for $733 per month. The Acura.com ad shows that it's possible to get a 36 month lease for $499 per month so I'm still not sure how they can advertise such a low figure? Tax and fees weren't exactly made clear to me.
Also, I was told that the 50% residual value for the lease calculation is non-negotiable, is that truthful?
I can't afford $700 for a new MDX but might be able to stretch to $550...any tricks out there to possibly make this work?
By the way, I test drove the Pilot (Touring edition) but wasn't overly impressed and would probably rather go with the 2009 Mountaineer since i can get into one for $500 on a lease.
Sport and ent package include everything you can possible get... as far as the acc goes...there are no "must haves" its your taste and lifestyle..
Check out acuramdx.org and see how/what can be done to MDX...
As far as options go....here are what I think are must haves...and that Acura should have included in base
1) Proximity sensor...camera is not good enough 2) Power tailgate...extremely convinient...I totally disagree with dishwash on this. This is one one of the options that will make you say "how did i live without it" 2) Roof rails...its an SUV..
Madooba, Just took delivery today of a Formal Black MDX w/ Sport & Entertainment Pkgs., ebony leather interior, and MANY accessories. Here was my deal: walked in yesterday and this completely tricked-out beauty was sitting on the showroom floor. Chrome side-steps and roof rack made it stand out. Then saw wood/perf-leather steering wheel and shift knob, autobond front-end treatment, all weather mats, etc. and called for the sales manager. The car was his for a little over two months. 4000 miles. It was stunning, and just what l wanted, so l said, let's do business. Sticker was $53,046.00 and l signed the deal for $48,900.00. He gave the following concessions: Increased my warranty to 56,000 miles from 50,000. Free oil change/filter for 4yr/56,000 miles. Free loaner for same. etc.... I was, and am, VERY happy!
Can some one please let me know what would be the best price to ask on a 2008 MDX with Tech + Entertainment package. I am in Orange county, california.
That looks like a pretty good price for both packages and below invoice. Where are you located?
Also as a side, does anyone have experience with the Acura Remote Starter on the MDX? Doesn't make sense to me that you need to stop the engine in order to get into the car only to start it up again manually. And the range is terrible. Any after market remote starters one would recommend that won't screw up the existing system?
I paid $37188 in Atlanta for a tech with ent this past weekend. Last month, I haggled them down to $37,500 and walked away and came back 4 weeks later with a little better deal.
I just got rumor from my friend, 2009 has rebate now. However no details. But I guess you can on-hold your buying untill you get clear info from somewhere.
Hi BOBACURA. Auto sales are atrocious right now. If you are in an area that has any sort of competition, I suspect that you will be able to purchase a 2008 MDX for dealer invoice minus the $4,000 dealer cash that is currently available on it. The dealer invoice price for a 2008 Acura MDX with both the Tech and Entertainment packages is $42,460. Subtract $4,000 from that and you have a target price of around $38,460.
