I need all the help I can get before going to the dealership. I really like the MDX and will like to get it. CUrrently I have a 2005 Nissan Murano and still have 2 more years payment (HUGE mistake). I bought the car new off the lot and pay $560 a month for it, I cannot believe I signed up for 72months to pay for it. Anyway, I am ready for another car, my murano is a basic S AWD ; I need a car with technology package at this point. Here are my questions; (please make answer as simple as possible as I am truly clueless...LOL)

    1) Is it better for me to trade in my car at a place like carmax or sell privately? The blue book value is $12,500 for a trade-in and I owe $9500 on the car.

    2) I want to lease the MDX; I saw a special for $459 but I don't know what the fine print means. I really don't want to pay more than I am paying now. But I really really need the technology package

    3. What other hidden fees/cost should i try to avoid?

BTW, I have good credit and I am looking in the Baltimore, MD area. Thanks in advance for your help

As far as trading in your old car is concerned, Kelly's Blue Book is useless. For any old car that's quoted in the $10-15k range in KBB, a dealer will typically offer you $2-3k less than that KBB value. You may get a better price from a private buyer, but it comes down to luck. You never know how long you have to wait for the desirable offer.

Don't have a clue whether a place like Carmax would pay more or less than the dealer.

Thanks! I guess I should try private sale first. Thanks

Just got home from purchasing my new 2009 MDX Base / Silver/ Black interior in South New Jersey.

Thanks to the great info on this forum I was able to walk out 36,600 +TTL. I feel this was a pretty good deal. All weather mats were thrown in as well. Traded in a 2006 Honda Accord SE. It was about only 45 minutes of negotiating. The dealer was very friendly and the management staff was very upfront and easy to negotiate with. I was also the only buyer in the dealer at the time this morning. They have 2 more Base Models on the lot and told me that the '10s would be arriving next week.
  • kmr3kmr3 Member Posts: 2
Congrats dc10plt. yesterday one of the dealer offered me 2009 MDX Base for 36988+699(dealership fees)+TTL and 09 MDX Base with roofrails+crossbars+running boards for 37988+699(dealership fees)+TTL.Showroom price on the second one mentioned is $47K.Since they offered almost 9k less not sure whether to take the offer or wait for few more weeks. If any of you think its good offer let me know
  • twotwotwotwo Member Posts: 11
You could try to get them to knock the dealership fees and maybe get closer to the 36.5k+TTL range. That seems to be the common price lately. If you're handy, find the OEM running boards from ebay for about $425 and try to install it by yourself to save few hundreds bucks. I installed my sport running boards in about 3.5 hrs.
  • dc10pltdc10plt Member Posts: 10
Were you there in person or over email/phone? I was able to get my price after about 45 minutes and 3 rounds of back and forth pricing. I think you can easily do better. I think 36998 is a good starting point..I can't believe the dealer fees would be so high ??! (699?) That's crazy!
  • kmr3kmr3 Member Posts: 2
yes i went to the showroom and i gave 35K+699(Dealership fees)+TTL as my first offer for 09 MDX base model. They came with $36998+Dealership Fees+TTL.I am firm on my price and said to call me back if they have any second thought. Its been a day and i haven't received any call.I am not in a hurry so will request quotes online.
  • dc10pltdc10plt Member Posts: 10
yeah I don't think I would waste too much more time with them. Dealerships are dealing all around on these cars and the 36 range with everything short of TTL is achievable with a little bit of negotiating. I don't know where you are located but around here there are about 10 or so dealerships so its easy to just go down the street to the next guy.

Has anyone gotten any pricing on a 2010? I am headed to the dealership this afternoon and would really like to buy the car. They told me they expect thier first shipment next week. I just dont know where to begin negotiations.
  • corschecorsche Member Posts: 29
I doubt you will see dealers budge off msrp with these being brand new 6 speeds. I did see that Acura put up special leas rates for the 2010 on the website for $499.00 with $3,500 cap reductin. Good luck, but if you can wait awhile for 2010 inventory to start rolling in(couple months is my guess) you will be able to negotiate some type of discount.

I have spoken to several NJ dealers in the past few days. Prices quotes are $43250 - $43750 for a tech package car including destination fee. These are reasonable deals given the $46,710 MSRP. Anyone else have any offers to share?
  • barleymanbarleyman Member Posts: 5
if thats true, that seems really reasonable. I briefly spoke to a Seattle area dealer who said they won't be much off MSRP. which can't be entirely true. I was going to check on costco pricing....
  • texashosertexashoser Member Posts: 14
For what it's worth, no one has any 2010 models on the showroom floor yet. From two dealers I've spoken with in central Texas, the expect to get some inventory in mid-January and initial prices will be near MSRP, especially in non-competitive markets.

    I sure wish the 2009 model had USB/iPod connectivity - it's a crime that it doesn't...
  • civicsixxxcivicsixxx Member Posts: 4
Those are some decent quotes judging from what I've gotten so far. Mind sharing which area of NJ you are looking searching?

I've been checking around N Delaware/Philly and have gotten luke warm offers at best. Inventories are very low as well. It seems the color I want is moving quickly.

One dealer told me they would do $500 off MSRP. Another quoted $45.7k for a Tech and another said $45.4k.

Ideally, I was hoping for a Tech/Ent at that price but right now that might be impossible to find.

I have an appointment to drive one tomorrow. It's not the color I want but I at least want to check out the improvements for 2010 in person. At this rate, I may be end up waiting a long time (which is tough since I already sold my vehicle) or just settling on a different SUV.

Both Princeton Acura and Bridgewater Acura provided deals $750 over invoice, which amounted to $43.3K for a 2010 tech package vehicle. Title fees were $399, doc fee $189, nj supp title tax was $179, and tire tax was $7.5, and sales tax was $3020
  • happytigerhappytiger Member Posts: 2
I just got an offer from dealer yesterday for a new 2009 MDX with Tech/Ent package.

The OTD price is 41,500 plus tax and tag fee. I am living in Philly area.

I want to know if this is a good deal.

Thanks in advance for your kind helps.

    Have a nice holidays.
  • carguy75carguy75 Member Posts: 6
I think 41,500 is a fair price.... i had a real deal on a non entertainment for 39500 and had another dealer take me out of the market promising to locate one for 38,500... unfortunately the dealer never delivered at 38,500 and now most of the techs are gone in the chicago area. i would probably pull the trigger for ent for 41,500 with the right color combo..

    good luck

Well lo and behold, a dealer in Austin has a 2010 tech in stock. Went and checked it out... On the inside, the only difference between the 2010 and the 2009 are the tiny, cheap, plastic paddle shifters and slightly differently backlit tach/speedometer guages (they lack the blue ring around the outside on the 2009 models). Sure, there are few more options in the audio menus due to the hard drive, USB connector, etc.

On the outside, you can tell from the pictures. Different nose and fog light areas on the front along with the more muscular, rectangular exhaust outlets on the rear.

Particular dealer isn't high volume and is not prepared to discount much (if at all) over sticker this early in the game.

I'll probably wait a couple of months until several dealers in the area have enough 2010 inventory to start offering some deals.
  • bliz1bliz1 Member Posts: 5
in central florida there is no inventory so you have to go south and the best price is 45715
  • ilovemymdxilovemymdx Member Posts: 1
I paid 36,000 + TTLfor base 2009 MDX. Bought side steps from ebay for 500 and installed at dealership for 100. Beats dealer price by 200. Nalley Acura in Atlanta. They didn't have too many 09s left.
  • 226ra226ra Member Posts: 4
First offer was for $42500 delivered plus TTL. Good price? Suggestions for a counter offer?

Also, any idea of typical financing rates I might encounter?
  • pfetayapfetaya Member Posts: 13
if this is for a 2010 and includes destination this is a great price - I shopped around for a week and ended up paying 43,268 plus sales tax, doc fee, and vehicle registration fee. What state did you get this offer in.
  • a4sfa4sf Member Posts: 13
where did you end up buying your mdx tech?
  • pfetayapfetaya Member Posts: 13
Birdgewater Acura in NJ. They also gave me 50% off on accessories worth about $1500, so in my view that made the deal about $500 better, since other dealers took a firm stand on only 10-20% off.
  • valueguyvalueguy Member Posts: 210
Anyone test drive the 2010 MDX yet? How does the steering compare to the '08/'09 version? Most articles mentioned that the steering is now "looser" and "darty" compared to the '09. Any comments?

Don't most of you suspect that in about 60-90 days this vehicle will be selling at invoice plus dealer fee? I do.
  • pfetayapfetaya Member Posts: 13
I have had mine for a day or so now, I think the steering feels pretty tight. Hate to say it but the thicker steering wheel also gives it a good touch. Then again, I never had the old version....

I do believe by the end of January it will be selling at invoice. The changes to the 2010 I don't think are enough to alter its attractiveness compared to other SUV's buyers might be considering, or spur addtional demand for the car. So unless Acura will decrease production for this year compared to last, the prices should go back to where they were in 20009, minus the $2K marketing support.

Offer was in Mass. Still in negotiations and will check back in with final offer.
  • texashosertexashoser Member Posts: 14
Best deal I've found so far in Austin, TX is $45,200...
  • jbbrow00jbbrow00 Member Posts: 8
Both my wife and I drove the 2010 Tech...handled great and I had no issues with the steering being dodgy.
Based on another post, invoice plus a $6-700 dealer fee would put it in the $43,3 or4 range a very good price.
Based on current availability dealers won't be able to meet the demand until possibly spring, with the advanced packages dribbling in late Jan early Feb.
Looking for a luxury 3 row SUV your choices are very limited and with the best residual value out there the MDX looks like a good buy.
  • texashosertexashoser Member Posts: 14
Value, I don't know about the demand you predict. 2010 inventory is still rolling in and the 2010 vehicles on lots right now haven't exactly been jumping off the lots. 2009 inventory is at great prices. But with 2010 asking prices as high as $5k more than a 2009 (which is basically the same car, at least for the tech model), once 2009 inventory is gone, I don't see demand for 2010 MDX's outstripping supply based on current 2010 prices. 2010 pricing is going to have to come down a bit for demand to equal supply.

Thank you pfetaya for the tip about Bridgewater and Princeton. Dealers around here (Delaware) wouldn't come close to what they were offering.

I decided to go with a 2010 Tech/Ent in Polished Metal and got it for $45,000 + tax, dmv and doc fees. Princeton came in a little lower and I was close to signing a deal with them but then Bridgewater offered to match them PLUS drive the car to my house (2.5 hours away!) There's no way I could refuse that.

All negotiations were done on Friday and the car was delivered today. It was a very easy process and all done by phone/fax and without stepping foot in the dealership.

I too am in the NJ area and these posts have been very helpful. Can anyone tell me what the financing is like on the MDX? We are still looking at both 09 and 2010 tech model. Thank you.
  • texashosertexashoser Member Posts: 14
Should still be 1.9% (up to 36 months) and 2.9% (up to 60 months) for both 2009 and 2010. It's set to expire 1/4/10, but I bet that deal will come around again soon or simply be extended.

I can't wait for that NJ pricing to come down here to Texas...

Can you please confirm is this price ok for 2010 MDX Tech and Entertainment Price
    44990.00 INCLUDING DESTINATION
    399.00 NJ Motor Vehicle
    189.00 Doc. Fee
I need to make a decision within next two days. Thanks for your help.
  • pfetayapfetaya Member Posts: 13
This looks to be around the lowest prices reported so far, about $750 over invoice. 226ra inidicated he had a better deal than this in Mass, but has yet to report on the final numbers.

A local Honda dealer has an '08 MDX Tech with 24,000 on it listed for $38,877. It does not have an Ent system on it.

What should something like this go for ?
  • texashosertexashoser Member Posts: 14
Have you done any basic research used-car pricing research yet? Since you can get a brand new MDX Tech for a little over $41,000, I would say almost $39,000 for a used '08 with 24K miles is not a good deal.
  • kewl_carkewl_car Member Posts: 17
Where can I get discounted OEM accessories for my 09 MDX Tech. Most of the local dealers will only offer 15-20% discount. Online price are cheaper but when add shipping it comes to the same price as dealers. Any help is appreciated.
    Happy New Year to Everyone
    Thanks
  • 43434343 Member Posts: 8
I used the used car appraisal tool from this site. It came up with $38,794, almost exactly what the dealer has it listed for. That's the only research I've done so far.
  • texashosertexashoser Member Posts: 14
You have some negotiating power on that price since you can get a brand new vehicle for just $2k more.
  • valuecarbuyervaluecarbuyer Member Posts: 2
    pfetaya,

Thank you very much for the tip on Bridgewater and Princeton Acura.

The 50% off on accessories is a great deal. Was that on the MSRP listed on Official Acura Accessories Webpage ? How much was added for accessories installation?

    Thanks!
  • civicsixxxcivicsixxx Member Posts: 4
I asked Bridgewater about a price on a cargo net and tri-fold cargo mat. They didn't have the tri-fold mat in-stock but quoted me $82 for a freaking cargo net! So, I'd say the difference from the Acura site is pretty big.

Thankfully, both of these can be found on eBay for significantly cheaper.
  • coffeerequiredcoffeerequired Member Posts: 8
    $50,855 + destination ($810) + TTL (?) + doc fee ($150) for:

2010 Acura MDX with Advance Package

This is the first quoted price I've recieved for a 2010. All accessories would be extra.
This is a dealer in the Chicagoland area.
  • gobears2gobears2 Member Posts: 23
Denver area dealers playing the supply game on new 2010 MDX. Constant refrain is that tech/ent package will not be on lots until March. Please. I am going to be patient and wait for incentives to be announced on 2010 MDX. Dealer in Chicago area offered $3,800 off of MSRP for 2010 tech/ent package. That would ~$44k. They did not have the desired color package...yet. I see no reason to pay BMW X5 pricing for pre-delivery.
  • lewis3lewis3 Member Posts: 25
I cant agree with you more. I am in Denver and I just got done test driving a MDX Tech. I am going to buy the car but I am going to wait a couple of months. They wanted to sell me one for $300.00 off of MSRP. They had the same line that it will be months before supply meets demand. I have a 2003 MDX and have waited 7 years for a new car. I can wait another 7 weeks and I bet the prices will be much lower. They have a Tech on the show room floor that they just sold for $51,000. It was loaded with front and rear garish, roof rack, tinted window, clear bra and a couple of other things. I cant believe someone actually paid that but if you want the car right now that is the going price at least in Denver.

What I dont understand is why there are parts of the country where people are paying just $750.00 over invoice and there is supply but in Denver there is no supply and cars are going for MSRP.
  • mercer08mercer08 Member Posts: 24
I'm getting the same types of quotes in the northwest. I'm in the Seattle area and in the market for a 2010 MDX Advanced with Entertainment. The quotes I've received so far are a few hundred bucks off MSRP for cars that are about to arrive on the lot in the next 2 weeks. I'll wait a few months for prices to drop to 4 or 5% above invoice.
  • chicatchicat Member Posts: 14
How about 38,900 (+ all fees, taxes, etc) for a 2010 base? Seems like a pretty good deal to me -- <$600 over invoice. Illinois dealer. Am I missing something?
  • lexluthorlexluthor Member Posts: 48
I don't think anyone could really answer your question though.

It doesn't really do any good to post an out the door price where there are different taxes/fees by state.

What did you pay for the car before TTL?
