Does anyone know how the dealer can fit a Navigation system in the dash of the LE or CE since Toyota does not offer it in the LE/CE ?
  • lb535lb535 Member Posts: 10
2 sets of wireless headphones are included with either the rear seat audio or rear seat DVD video systems.

For anyone who lives in or near Cleveland. The Sunday Plain Dealer featured the new Sienna on their auto page with a good article. The article said that G.M. was a bit worried about their new competition. I'm not sure if you can access the article via the inter net or not.

Does anyone know if you can find an 8-passenger Sienna LE with a TV and AWD? I don't think AWD is avalible with the 8 passenger style but a confirmation would be great. My friend wants a Sienna LE with 8 seats, AWD and the TV. Hope that you can get 8 seats with AWD.
  • toocajun4utoocajun4u Member Posts: 26
banddexpress: Yes, all trim lines will have front and rear A/C and heat, and all trim lines will have rear controls.

jchan2: Sorry, no 8-seat AWD. Current speculation is that the AWD drivetrain leaves no room for the 8th seat mounting points.

Sorry...can't pay cash for a new one. Will have to finance. Dealer says that they can beat any APR I can find in town. That sounds good to me, but I'm wondering what kickbacks the dealer may get for steering our finances to one of their lenders?

Trying to decide on a LE or XLE. Does anybody know where to find a standard feature list for these 2 trim levels? Want to compare them side by side to see if the upgrade worth 4000+.

    Thanks in advance

  • LuzerLuzer Member Posts: 119
    I have a 1999 XLE.
For the extra 3000+ back then, I got leather seats - do not care for, but this is personal.
Wanted Sunroof - okay, I did that.

Alum wheels - Nice, but big deal.

Misc stuff - Not important to remember.

Me - I would opt for the LE and pocket the change.
Price diff was greater because they had a discounted package for the LE that did not carry over to the XLE. 1999 was 2nd model yr.

General rule of thumb - wait for year 2.

    Good Luck.

clearly, it is those who run the discussion boards that work the most efficiently at edmunds.com- certainly seems that others dont do their homework AT ALL. Toyota, over a week ago, released PRICING info on the LE AWD, yet edmunds.com clearly states that such a combination is not offered. Bizarre of Toyota to price a non-existant vehicle, if you ask me.

Re-inforces my point- look to Car and Driver and Consumer Reports for usable vehicle ratings and comparisons. Look to edmunds for its awesome pricing and discussion halls.

from our dealer, XLE adds (on top of LE):
-3 (each front seat and rear) zone HVAC
-power right, left and hatch doors
    -JBL stereo with 10 speakers
-rear seat audio with wireless headphone capability
    -XLE fabric
    -8 way power driver's seat
    -16 inch alloy wheel
    -anti-theft alarm
    -color-keyed, heated power mirrors
    -auto on/off headlights
    -fog lamps
    -wood-grain trim
    -chrome door handles
-overhead console with trip computer, temp and homelink
    -removable center console
-leather-wrap steering wheel with audio controls

Of course, lots of those things can be added to the LE. It really depends cuz if you MUST have fog lamps, you may have to go with XLE, cuz my info is that they aren't available in the LE (at least not in our region). And of course, things can be added to the XLE, too.
  • newcar35newcar35 Member Posts: 48
Where did info come from that 2 sets come with the rear audio? As far as I can tell, rear audio is wireless headphone capable, but no info on whether or not they are included.. Could we buy aftermarket ones, do you think?

IMHO it is nuts to have little kids and cloth seats. Any way to get leather seats as an option??
  • nofeernofeer Member Posts: 381
Leather--I got an accord lx some time ago and wanted leather the dealer outsourced the leather seats and they looked great. I had a rare accord coupe 5sp with leather, you could do the same with the sienna...talk to the dealer.-

    From the car connection today

TOYOTA MAKING SPECIAL SIENNA FOR DISABLED

The Japanese automaker will launch a handicap-capable version of its all-new, ?04 minivan, dubbing it the Sienna Rampvan. The name refers to the fact that the special edition will feature a lowered floor with a fold-out ramp designed to improve access for those using wheelchairs or mobility scooters, said the Toyota brand?s general manager, Don Esmond. Additional features, such as a kneel system and electric vehicle entry assist, will also be available. Like a conventionally equipped Sienna, the special minivans will begin life on the Toyota assembly line in Princeton, Indiana. They will then be modified by Independent Mobility Systems, based in Farmington, New Mexico. The Sienna Rampvan will go on sale in June, about three months after launch of the standard Sienna. ?Paul A. Eisenstein

In reading the "first drive" article, it states that AWD won't be available on LE trim, just XLE and Ltd.
Regarding price between LE and LE AWD (close to 4 grand), it seems steep. What do we get for that? The Explorer and Expl 4WD are less than 3 grand apart, Montero and Montero 4WD close to 3 grand different.

Going to the Milw. auto show tonight. Hope to see a new Sienna there. Will shoot pix like a fiend. Any measurements requested? Specifics to look at? Leaving work at 4:30, post before then.

Yes, this is what Edmunds say, 300 watts on the 10-speaker surround sound system! While the new Mercury Monterey will offer 140 watts!
  • lapvnlapvn Member Posts: 455
Thank you for offering your services and hope you have fun at the show. It would be great for everyone here if you can get a table or something of what exactly comes with what model and it's options. Pricing. And most of all an exact eta on the rollout of the 2004 Sienna. See if you can print out the features of the Odyssey and see if you can highlight exactly the pros and cons of the Sienna. Sorry if I ask too much, the auto show doesn't hit my area until May and we are looking into the Van now. Again, Thank you for offering your services.
  • tommy38tommy38 Member Posts: 32
Actually, its 150 watt according to Toyota Canada

Unless they have different system in the US.

After reading this board for the last 2 months, I was set to order the LE AWD. But, after reading the Edmund's excellent First Drive article, I am extremely disappointed to know AWD is not offered on the LE model. Does anyone know if this is confirmed? Does Toyota plan to offer AWD option on the LE in the future? XLE price is just a bit too high for my budget!
  • toyotakentoyotaken Member Posts: 897
I think that was a misprint. The LE model will be available with AWD as far as I know.

Doesn't Honda charge only $1200 for an AWD CR-V over the price of a 2 WD?
Are some automakers just more greedy than others?
  • lj3dlj3d Member Posts: 6
I found a press release from the Toyota webiste stating that AWD will be offered on the LE.

    Here is the link:

    http://pressroom.toyota.com/photo_library/display_release.html?id- =2004sienna_r

If anyone else have any information on whether AWD will be offered, please share your info with us.

I've sent an email to management concerning the discrepancy in the Edmunds review and Toyota's press release concerning which models have AWD.

Thanks for bringing it to our attention!
  • jctobinjctobin Member Posts: 25
I too am in the market for the AWD and was a bit dissapointed in the price differential. That said, I knew that it would be a big difference because the AWD includes some big ticket stuff not on the standard LE:
    17" run flat tires (expensive)
    17" alloy wheels
    traction control and anti-skid
    rear disk brakes
There may be more but this is what I can remember off the top of my head.
  • alpha01alpha01 Member Posts: 4,747
$3515 is a substantial increase from LE FWD to LE AWD, but, as mentioned in the previous post, there is alot of equipment standard on the AWD that is not standard on the FWD. Maybe everyone should quit complaining and just be glad that the option is available.

From my understanding you can get the LE AWD in 7 pass. but not in the 8 pass.
  • fanasiennafanasienna Member Posts: 6
    Everyone,

A dealer called me this morning asking if I wanted to order my LE AWD, gave me the price, etc (which was OVER MSRP..)., so it DOES exist! Thank heavens.. (though, BTW, I declined to pay through the nose at this early point. Sounded too much like Hondarrogance..) (Hmmm, maybe I should keep my mouth shut, huh...Lament the nonexistence of the LE AWD...and no one would order any and I could get a good deal...Nah, I'm just not that evil. Not yet!)

Although there will be feature creep and price increase....
  • LuzerLuzer Member Posts: 119
in the yellow flash thingie at toyota.com, you can click on "printable specs" for a list of standard and optional features.

A little tough chart for a comparo, but at least a list of what's what.
  • hansiennahansienna Member Posts: 2,312
Toyota gets the bugs out in the engineering process and does not let the consumer do the "de-bugging" for them as do most of the other manufacturers.
Does anyone have the short listing of all Toyota vehicles that had bugs the first year or two? Or, was there ever a Toyota that had bugs the first year or two?
  • canuck13canuck13 Member Posts: 73
The model/feature line up and pricing structure for the new Sienna in Canada is completely different from the US.
  • alpha01alpha01 Member Posts: 4,747
due mostly to interior trim issues, has suffered a drop in reliability (2002 compared to 2001 models) from "Much Better than Average" to "Average" as judged by Consumer Reports. Honda suffered similar drops with the Odyssey and Civic in their redesigns.

hansienna, you can go on thinking that Toyota is immune, but its not.

Dont get me wrong, there is no doubt in my mind that even first year redesigned Toyotas will be incredibly long lasting and reasonable (cost-wise) to maintain, but there are niggling issues that will almost always be solved by year 2.

Has anyone seen that new commercial for Camry? It looks more like a local one but it some of it may be used nationwide. It says that 90% of Camrys built since 1986 are still on the road. That's not surprising.
  • lapvnlapvn Member Posts: 455
I am waiting for the 04 Sienna and from there hope to pin it against the Ody and try to get a better price. I created a spreadsheet which lists out all of the ody's features and next to it fot the sienna. Obviously not all of sienna's specs are there since they have officially not released them yet. The way i see it is, if I can easily check off what each car have and don't have bargaining hopefully will be easier.
If anyone wants it, let me know I can send it over. Excel spreadsheet.

    Hi,

Does anyone know if XLE LIMITED will come with AWD at all? I couldn't find the its MSRP anywhere.

    Thanks,
    Wesley
  • alpha01alpha01 Member Posts: 4,747
Where have you looked? XLE Limited AWD pricing has been posted on this thread as well as on Toyota.com. I don't think links to corporate sites are allowed on this forum, but simply go to About Toyota, then News, then Products.

My relatives are so exciting about the 2004 Sienna. They have enough for their 2000 Odyssey EX. No major problem but repair services were performed on the sliding door, rear wiper motor, engine light (bad oxygen sensor) and TCS light.
I spoke to one local dealer and there will be few Siennas in stock in mid-March. When looked the Toyota website, the price for CE is $23,465 (not bad as a Odyssey fighter). It will cost $37,440 for the top-of-the-line AWD XLE. Isn't it about the cost for 2004 Lexus RX330?
Certainly, this is a very impressive minivan. Look out Honda!

    Hi All,

Thanks for all of your information over the past few months, I have been listening and most recently planning our ideal 04 Sienna. We are on the fence about purchasing it or leasing it. I have contacted 2 local dealers in Ft. Wayne, IN and neither seem to be overly informed about this van. I inquired about residual values and neither knew anything yet. Does anyone know what they may be? I looked at the residuals for the 03 Sienna on toyota.com and they are not too promising probably because of the new model being released. The Odyssey residuals are very good and I am hoping the same for the 04 Sienna.

Upstream someone mentioned they thought it was nuts to get cloth seats if you have small kids, that leather was preferable.

On what basis do come to that conclusion?

No car I have owned has ever had leather so I don't have any direct experience, but my assumption has always been that cloth is better when you have small kids. First of all, my kids always sit on car seats so they barely touch the upholstery. When they make a mess it's usually the car seat that gets dirty not the upholstery. Secondly, the kid's car seats seem to fit better on coth seats and don't slide around as much as they do when mounted on leather upholstery. Finally, I have never had any problem using my Bissel steam carpet cleaner to clean my cloth car seats.

Can anyone explain why I should be thinking about paying a lot more for leather upholstery in the Sienna when the kids will be sitting on car seats and booster seats anyway?

    Bugs on a toyota.

My first year Sienna had "jingle" doors that could not be fixed. My friends had the same problem.

My first year Sienna when the tempeture was below 37, the tubes feeding the center hvac vent vibrated over rough pavement. Dealer attempts to fix did not work.

I did not need to participate in the oil sludge class action lawsuit, but others did.

All cars have small problems. The honda problems mentioned above are minor. I think people are spoiled by some models and think they all should be as good.

All the hondas (3)I owned were perfect. The toyota was not. I would still get a first year Sienna and very well might. Just because it happend once does not mean it will again. I think the oddysey would be less trouble becsuse it is established. If I was having problems with the first Oddysey, chances are a new one would be better.

Hondas are great, but this new van is more evolved and represents the latest. IM sure Honda will top it in two years. But until then, the toyota is a great new entry.

Residual: The sienna I checked had a 49% residual, as do most toyotas. That is very good. The Town and Country has 39% (at 36 month)

Volvos are at 55%. I don't think the new one is be established, but it should follow historic presidence.
  • lapvnlapvn Member Posts: 455
First, for those of you who requested the spreadsheet I sent it to you already, hope it helps in some way.
Next, in looking at the little specs. that Toyota gives us, I actually think the Sienna XLE FWD comes closest to the EX model of the Ody as far as trying to compare apples to apples. What do you think?
  • newcar35newcar35 Member Posts: 48
I'm with you -- cloth is better IMO. Car seats do not install well on leather, like you said, they slide around. Since kids should be in seats or boosters until they are at least 8, this is a big consideration for us. I also would think that cloth would clean easier (leather stains), and would certainly repair easier if the kids tore it with a cleat or pencil in their pocket, etc.

    I'm going with cloth...
  • steverstever Guest Posts: 52,454
I don't have kids and/or leather, but most of the messages I've seen on the question around Town Hall in Vans favor leather if you have small kids. Easier to clean and doesn't show stains as much, supposedly.

The leather vs. cloth seats- which do you prefer and why? discussion may offer some further insights.

  • winedogswinedogs Member Posts: 102
I have two children under two and I did not even consider cloth for my purchase later this year. I agree with one writer that child seats do slide to a small degree with leather. But the benifits out weigh the negatives. Imagian cleaning things like ice cream, soda, and vomit off of your cloth seats!
