It may take awhile, this being a holiday weekend and all, so keep checking. Meanwhile, a few members there are talking about the prices they paid for cars like yours, so you can do a little comparing:

    Thanks,
So the graphite trim is a add on. That clears that up for me. I think the graphite helps to give the red and tan coupe a bit more of a sports car look. I also added the black all weather mats to give it some additional contrast. I added the deck spoiler which is I believe is a must on the coupe. I am thinking about adding the gold trim but not sure yet. Any ideas what might look good on a red coupe.
    Thanks for the info.

I have the same car. I had my windows tinted and also have a rattle - except my door panels were not removed. I think the rattle is coming from the window itself which now seems to wiggle in the track when its fully closed. When I roll down the window a bit the ratteling stops.

My problem is that I now have ZERO AM reception in the car and reduced FM reception. Anyone have that problem and find a solution?
  • midnightcowboymidnightcowboy Member Posts: 1,978
Hopefully you didn't have metallic tint done. It shields the signal from the radio antenna. If so, I guess you need to subscribe to XM or get a good set of CDs. Otherwise you can either retint (non-metallic) or install an external antenna.

    Non-metallic tint - no problems.

Don't have any rattles yet- Only 15K miles

    Hi,

I am interested in a 2000 Honda Accord Coupe. The Carfax Report says that at the mile of 105k, it had a "Vehicle service at Cottman Transmission." It is 110k now.

Should I buy this car? What should I do to if I want to buy it.

Thank you very much for your help.
  • haefrhaefr Member Posts: 600
You neglected to mention whether the car has a 6 cylinder engine and whether the transmission is manual or automatic. Those can be significant factors on a five year old Accord. I'll assume the car has an automatic transmission for purposes of discussion. "Cottman Transmission" suggests a fluid flush and refill. My only problem with that notion is that the work wasn't performed by a Honda dealership. Honda, like most other makes currently, no longer recommends the use of plain vanilla Dexron III GM-type transmission fluid. Honda recommends only their own Z-1 proprietary fluid blended specfically for compatibility with Honda automatic transmission friction material characteristics. If Dexron III is substituted, the immediate effect will be progressively harsher upshifts and downshifts as the new fluid is taken up by the friction material in the clutches and bands. There may be reliability problems later on since Dexron III is a conventional fluid whereas the Honda Z-1 is a synthetic blend to withstand the heat of operation of Honda automatics. Independent transmission shops generally only stock Dexron III since it's much cheaper than the proprietary fluids. (Depending on dealership, I've seen Honda Z-1 priced from $2.69/qt. to more than $7.00/qt.) The indies'll then add a supplement that's supposed to "convert" Dexron III to equivalent performance of the proprietary fluid. While it may appear to do so at the outset, it's anyone's guess what the longterm effects will be. (All the shop proprieter has to be concerned about is the first 90 days until his "warranty" is up - odds're good no matter what he pours into the transmission will work at least that long.) Since the car is out of warranty, be aware that a transmission exchange for a Honda Accord would likely be in excess of $2,000.00, and Honda has had problems with its automatic transmissions in its 6 cylinder cars. If you go ahead with this purchase, unless you can verify that real Z-1 fluid was used, have the fluid flushed and refilled by a Honda dealership, or do a minimum of three drains and refills yourself with Z-1 fluid. After each drain and refill, drive the car untill fully warmed to mix the fluid with the remainder of the old fluid. The reason for multiple drains and refills is that the torque converter does not drain when the case drain plug is removed and it takes actual operation to distribute the new fluid through the torque converter. After three such procedures (and yes, some perfectly good new fluid gets dumped each time - deal with it!) the remaining old fluid is down to a fairly low percentage.

I can't believe Carfax shows that. Seems REALLY strange to me. And I would find it even harder to believe that it would show up there for just a flush and fill of the tranny.

ALSO, it seems terribly suspicious to me that this service was performed recently and now the car is being sold. Sometimes, if a tranny is slipping, a quick service could make the problem less pronounced for a short period of time, giving the owner the time they need to sell it.

But, again, like I said, I find it odd that a flush and fill would show up on carfax. Seems to me, if something like that shows up at all, it must be for good reason (like a major overhaul).

In any case, all of this would certainly give me enough doubt to avoid the car.

    Thanks for your quickly replies.

Yes, the Carfax show up every time the car get services, even with the oil change. But it does not happen to all the cars I have checked.

The car I am interested in is a 2000 Accord coupe, 4 cylinders, Automatic transmission.

    Thanks again,

I later found out that the door panels were not removed. Only the very top of the door panel was lifted enough to slide the tint down on the glass. Anyway, I feel confident that the rattle\rubbing is coming from the window track as you mentioned. If I lower the window the sound goes away. I am going to get Honda to look at it and see what can be done. I'm already preparing myself for the type of BS response I get after they listen for the noise. Stay tuned. Let me know if you figure out how to solve the window noise.

Debating wether to get a 4cyl or 6. Is the 4 cylinder good enough for over all non NAscar types ?
  • blaneblane Member Posts: 2,017
The 4 cylinder wouldn't be too good at the Indy 500 either. Otherwise it's a fine choice.

...lit up the first time this week. Trip odo read 365 miles.

..a few miles later, took 13.75 gallons...indicating circa 3.3 gallons left in tank.

..at about 27 MPG, that's enough suburban safety margin for most of us San Jose State grads......

..as for trips (see my Gila Bend - Yuma, AZ eye-popping fuel numbers) - - - the margin increases big time.

I have a 2005 with 16K. I have only taken to dealer for free oil changes and one tire rotation. Absolutely no problems. I love it! Extremely smooth shifting. And one thing they don't tell you is that Reverse is automatically locked out at speed. If you need to pass pull to neutral automatically goes to the 3rd-4th slot. Pull back into 4th and pass. Truly great car. No squeaks rattles problems. Also getting ready to buy a Honda commuter car a Civic Si!

    double sixes,

P.S.- Also great mpg on regular. I get 29-32 going 75 mph.
  • midnightcowboymidnightcowboy Member Posts: 1,978
Depends on what you are looking for. The 4 cyl gets 10% better mileage but costs a couple of thousand less but has less features. Iif you have any winter weather at all just the stability control would be worth getting the V6.

Also, if you are into manaul shift the 6-spped v^ manual is awesome!

I bought a 2006 Honda Accord Coupe EX in Nov 05, it has less than 3000k on it. Last week I lost the use of the remote key entry, cannot lock the car except from the outside on the driver door, lost driver d-frost, rear d-frost, turn signals and dash lights. Its in the shop and not any fuses, replaced the fuse box and was told there are 3 of us in the US with the same problem and they have no idea what it is. I am being told that the Engineers at Honda don't even know what to do next. I want my car back... they put me in a rental (chevy impala YUKE) can anyone help?????  :lemon: ????

    ...jeez, I regret your plight.

.just a shot in the dark, but - given that you also involve

Thanks I am keeping my fingers crossed it will be fixed friday. :surprise:

I am sure they will expertly fix your problem and restore your faith in Honda. I, like exshift5, have a 2005 V6 6-speed Coupe and have not had any problems in 17K miles.

I wonder if it could be the communication bus that most manufacturers are switching to ( do a web search on CAN BUS).

I do recall reading something on the 2003 Accord stating that many things on the car uses a comm bus, and if that failed, it could literally shut down many things on the car.

The technology sounds a little scary, but thats something we need to get used to since its being used more and more.

Thanks much, Midnight ! So far, I like what I've seen. The remote issue discussed today can be pesky. More importantly, it sounds as if they're making every effort to get it fixed to the owner's satisfaction. Electronics in these cars is getting out of control - just more to fail IMO. Thanks again. Got word late today that the car is fixed and it was the fuse box under the hood. I can't wait to get my girl back,

    A. Great! (We figured Honda would do right by you).

    B. ...speaking of the retirement home.....later this am, the nose of my 6M coupe points southwest toward an age specific (AKA retirement community) near Rio Vista.....
(these things need checking out early on:work cuts into my Crown Royal time).

I looking to but a Honda Accord EX Coupe (With out leather, with out NAV, without Satilite Radio). MSPR is 24,050. Invoice (as far as I can tell appears to be $21,018. This is my 1st new car and I wanted to know the best prices anyone has heard of or thinks I may able to get. I will not be Financing any on the cost. Any advice???

I'm trying to get an offer of 21,400 with the following included...
Rear spoiler ($499 advertised on Honda website)
Body side molding ($130 advertised on Honda website)
Door Visor ($99 advertised on Honda website)
Premium Floor Mats ($79 advertised on Honda website)

Does anyone think I would be able to get this car with all these accessories included for $21,400, or am I insane?
  • midnightcowboymidnightcowboy Member Posts: 1,978
Good luck On getting that price. The Accord Coupe already comes with floor mats which are about the same as the premium. Have them show you a Coupe with and without the body side molding; it looks much better without and I would recommend unless you arre in a door-ding danger
zone. Door visor isn't really need to keep rain from coming in; your call. Rear spoiler looks great on Coupe.

If you can wait maybe you can get that price.Right now you probably can't get invoice. Second best time to buy is end of month or even better end of quarter. I would go the internet route an get bids form a lot of dealers. Then show some interest tword end of the month. They are trying to make their sales numbers.

    Good luck, great car

2005 Accord Coupe EX 6-speed with NAV, fogs, wheel locks, splash guard, rear spoiler, K&N Filter and Borla Exhaust,

Thanks for the input. Your right, I rethought the body side molding and floor mats and descided against it. I'm still on the fence about the rear spoiler, but will probally go for it. I just received an offer from a local dealership...someone let me know what you think

Honda Accord EX Coupe (w/ Wheel Locks & Trunk Tray)

    Offer was: $21,881.00 Plus...
    Doc Fee: $159.00
    Tax: $1,332.54
    Plates $85.00

    Dealership is in Shelton, CT

Good or Bad deal? I didn't really haggle with the dealer much, not sure how mouch lower to attempt to go or if to request additional accessories.
  • midnightcowboymidnightcowboy Member Posts: 1,978
Decent price, let them know you are interested, but wait until Tuesday 1/31. Then tell then you will give them $21,481 or say Okay $21,881 but you throw in a rear spoler installed for free. I think you mention you were paying cash or at least not financing through the dealer. That puts you in a pretty powerful position.

    Good luck,

Today at 93,351 my alternator went. Luckily the car had a month of warranty left. Does anyone know how long approx. a new alternator will last for? Thanks!
  • mrbill1957mrbill1957 Member Posts: 823
Ther really isn't a life expectancy for an alternator. Many last the life of the car.

Things like sandy-dust, salt spray from road salt, or heavy electrical use can all reduce it's life.

So it took me along time to make the transition from chevy to honda, it was a family thing i guess.. but my last car (chev malibu) was broken into with over 2000 dollars damage and stuff stolen out of the car, knowing that the car at this time wasent even worth 2000, lets just say i had alot of fun with that car.

So anyway, i never really liked honda's my whole life, but seeing how i recently got a job at a honda dealership, i thought, why not look around for something, found an '05 chevy malibu that we were selling, but thanx to one of my friends here at the dealership, he talked me into buying honda.
well so 2 days after my malibu was broken into, i bought myself a 2002 2dr coupe ex v6, fire red. with 70,000 miles on it, i have had it almost 3 weeks, and so far I love it.
I do have some concerns though about the year of this car and the amount of miles on it. if anyone has owned this particular year make and model, or still owns, i would appreciate some feed back, or if you have heard anything about this car..

lets just say i will no longer be closed minded to other car makers anymore, though this particular body style of the accord i love, the newer ones i'm still not all that excited about..

    thank's for any comments..
  • blaneblane Member Posts: 2,017
Congratulations on your purchase. You should realize that your 2002 Accord was the last year of the sixth generation of Accords (1998-2002). Therefore, it has all of the best, most time-tested, features of that generation.

Here's a link to an Edmunds Maintenence & Repair forum for sixth generation Accords where you'll probably find the type of information for which you are looking:

    /direct/view/.efdf921/0!make=Honda&model=Accord&ed_make- - - - index=.efdf921

Don't get nervous reading there though. The Maintenence & Repair forums for all brands of vehicles will usually show the worst sides of peoples' driving experiences. Nobody goes there to discuss how great their vehicle is. You'll find that sort of discussion in other forums here.
  • xkiddx13xkiddx13 Member Posts: 122
Thank's for the link. and the info. I had no idea the 2002 was the last of it's generation, that puts a little confort in my mind.

I have a 2004 Accord EX V6 coupe with black leather and ~30k miles. Like some others, I am starting to notice fold lines and wear on my drivers side seat bolster  . Has anyone had luck with Honda replacing their leather seats? Is this a lost cause? Can someone take a picture of their seats so I can compare?

    Hey Ezshift5,

How is it going? I still like my 2005 6-speed Accord Coupe. I thought it was the smoothest shifting 6-speed until I also got ....

A 2006 Red S2000 sports car. The 6-speed in it is even shorter and smoother. I put on a lLOUD Invidia exhaust.

    Both are great cars.

    Go Honda!

    Go six-speeds.

There is a light for the "emergency" or hazard light button. The bulb is a tiny (.8watt) that can be removed by pulling (gently) the switch out of the dash and it looks like a philips head screw on the side of the switch assembly. These lights as well as clock lights burn out all the time and cost about $4 at the dealer.

    Anonymousposts,

Yes I had a Rallye Red Si on specail order with NAV and summer tires. Somehow the deal fell through at the Honda dealers end, after about 7 weeks. They had a 2006 Red S2000 that I was going to buy and negotiagte the price to invoice and was getting financing that afternoon, my salesman was gone that afternoon and by that evening it was sold. Bought a S2000 for same price from another dealer. I am really happy with it; unbeliveable car and traction even in the rain. I think I will be happier with the S2000 longterm , especially since I can drive it year round here in Houston, with the top down most of thew time.

Still like my 6-speed 2005 Accord Coupe. Both are great cars.

    Double sixes,

    MidCow

    P.S.- I thinlk you should get a S2000 also ;)

just bought an accord coupe 2006 and was wondering how many owners installed the body side molding. I like the looks without, but I can see that dings many be a problem. Will the side molding detract for the smooth lines? and why in the world does Honda not make splash guards to match the body paint color. Seems they are all black.
