Anyone seen a 2000 4x4 with the optional 265 size tires? Can't find any around here. Anyone know what would need to be done if I put the 265's on a truck that came with 245's? I'd like the speedometer to be accurate and also not worry about voiding part of the warranty. A friend who is a former GM mechanic says that changing tire sizes also affects ABS operation. May not be a problem for a minor change. If I ever had suspension problems, they could always say that I changed tire sizes from original. Just want to be covered. Re. the speedo - I figure it would be off about 4%.

    Tim,

I've wondered the exact same thing. Shouldn't it KNOW that there is new oil in the sump? why do we have to tell it?

Also, my uncle ran some tests for a large diesel rebuild shop that he works for. They tested oil filters of all kinds (large, industrial oil filters). the best: AC Delco. The worst: Fram.

i didn't check out the website, but we always run AC Delcos in everything from the family car to 1000 hp diesels....

THe oil warning light doesn't measure the oil condition. A computer keeps track of number of miles and number of times engine starts and stops and speed etc etc. Therefore it doesn't know you have changed the oil.

Please folks, any comments to this inquiry?

Has anyone seen a 2000 2WD LS Ext Cab with Manual
Bucket Seats that have the "Cushion Tilt" and
"Easy Entry" feature? (Mine does not) I also
noticed there's no "lock tab/security feature" on
the tail gate, nor any mention of it in the manual.
    Has GM discontinued this?

Also, for you extended cab owners, I noticed I have to give the third door a good mild slam to for it to latch properly, if not done it could be leak city.

    Thanks, John
  • mgdvhmanmgdvhman Member Posts: 4,157
about 12.5 so far with my 6.0...mostly city so far.
  • mksalemmksalem Member Posts: 42
My '99 ext, manual buckets, has a deal on the drivers side where you flip the lever on the side of the seat that says "entry" and the seat will tilt and slide (Ok, you got to push it a little . . . ) forward to allow max access to the rear. It will return to the "pre-flipped" position (has memory) Only on the drivers side; not passenger side.

Is it "easy entry" ? Is it "cushion tilt" ? Probably not, but it helps.

Tailgate security - GM saved 80 billion $$$ by deleting this extremely complicated piece of engineering - nobody I know has it on their truck either; we are all using .69 cent hose clamps from ACE hardware on the the passenger side pivot.
  • riccirriccir Member Posts: 16
Please elaborate on the 69 cent fix.........

    thanks,

I have a 5.3L, Z71 4WD, 800 miles on it. First tank 15.01, second tank 16.66. Still on third tank. Drive it to work and back (17 miles, some city mostly country miles) all with A/C on.

Now, when I take it in Monday to have the rear main oil seal replaced, squeaking cab to frame mount replaced (dealer tried lubrication, tightening, etc.,and 65MPH shake fixed, I hope the mileage increases. Even with all that is wrong with it I still like it enough to buy another one.
  • mksalemmksalem Member Posts: 42
    John - sorry I misunderstood.

I do have everything on the buckets that I mentioned earlier (the tilt and slide) AND I have the feature you described that lowers/raises (tips) the front of the seat. The control for this is a bar directly under the right front portion of each seat (sometimes hard to find . . .) I also have round dial/knob that moves the lumbar support around. Again, this is a '99 2wd LS ext with cloth - I'll check my sticker and see if it had some sort of seat upgrade -

Also a Canuck Truck with 18K + and doing great.

I was quoted a price of $19200 for an extended cab 2wd LS today. Only options were tinted windows and fog lights. Dealer has 13 of these on the lot. The dealer claimed they would beat any other dealer's price. All comments will be greatly appreciated.

A few days ago I pumped my tires up on the 2000 3/4 LT from 40 to 50. At first I had doubts....but after a few days it seems just fine...so I'll leave them at 50. Maybe the suspension is breaking in? I noticed even with just 1 more person in the truck...it rode way better. Amazing what little extra weight can make a difference.
498 Miles on it and tomorrow I'm taking my first extended highway trip..whoohooo!...This puppy is going to FLOAT down the highway!

Today was the main day for the Woodward Dream Cruise. An event that takes place on Woodward Avenue (Michigan) which is a blvd. street with 4 lanes each way. About 1-1.5 million people come on Saturday and quite a few the nights before. Miles and miles of people crammed on the sidewalks. Miles and miles of cars on the side of the road..in the lots...down the streets..and of course on the road! Towards the end it always turns into a burnout mania! People dump gallons of water all over the road (and bleech) and egg cars on to burn 'em. You get everything from the muscle cars to Mom's Mini van..to Semi's! Even the postman lit 'em up!
Some sections have people lined up for blocks....20 deep...cheering the burn outs!....If you ever get a chance to come out here this weekend..It's the Largest free car get together in the world.
What does this have to do with this catagory?
I saw a Gold Stepside Silverado - the 6.0 SS!
GM had a couple of displays and that was one of the trucks they had. It's gonna be cool....and fast! They had the original Firebird from 1955...Turbine Powered!..Kinda looks like a wild batmobile? They say that puppy gets about 1200-1600 degrees...yikes!
The one display was set in a Coney island resturaunt parking lot and the resuraunt was open to only GM employees who had a wrist band to eat for free. I don't work for GM...but of course I had 4 bands...it's not what ya know....it's who ya know. Out back in the private area they had some cool [non-permissible content removed] future Caddys.
Enough about this....I'm always pumped up after this event....thanks for reading.

    Rwag,

    How about them pics boss?

You know....the literature does say the side views are dimming type. I notice my rear view gets almost so dark that I can only see headlights....but the sides never get that dark. If they do dim..it's not as dark as the rear view. oh well....the rear is where all the brights effect you anyway!

This may have already been covered by this worthy crew, but probably not this well:

    RATE X TIME = DISTANCE

    DISTANCE/TIME = RATE (AVERAGE SPEED)

My average speed is approximately 30 mph. I have a 99 Silverado LT Charcoal/Graphite. I've replaced those lame stock tires and wheels with Bridgestone 285 Dueller A/T's and American Racing's Polished Pythons. (Now these really make the truck.)

MAJOR COMPLAINT: Those leather seats show the wear and quick. Had to replace both front seats at 5100 miles. Never leather again.

  • mgdvhmanmgdvhman Member Posts: 4,157
    What kind of wear?
    Color fade? or break down?

Can't imagine 5100 miles and they be shot?

I believe you....just hope it's not my case!

if the $19200 includes 5.3 L, auto, and air, it's definately as bargain. Get it. Quickly.

If you're still out there, how did you get an order number so soon? I ordered my truck on July 12, no order number yet. My dealer almost makes it seem hopeless. I really don't know if I would want to wait another 10-14 weeks AFTER I get an order number anyway. This week I'm going to start looking on my dealer's lot for anything close that comes in. 6 weeks now as of today. How ridiculous.

Ordered my 2000 Sat, the dealer said I should have the order number by this Tuesday! Where did you order yours from? I am in Raleigh NC. What has the dealer been telling you as far as why its taking so long? Dave

For what I'm able to afford, have to decide
between a 4wd base model (regular cab, SB) or LS
trim with 2wd. Live in south where we have only
a handful of snows a year - will use mostly for
light hauling/highway 95% of time. Trying to
factor in resale value vs. infrequency of use of
4wd vs. desirable options with LS trim. Driving
myself crazy trying to decide (and wife too).
Anyone able to swing the pendulum for me?

Placed my order for a 2000 1/2 ton LS 4x4 last Tuesday, and received my order number moments ago! How long should it take to get a build date once you have an order number?

    Any info is appreciated!

    Thanks

Is anyone aware of the discount offered to GM employees? My company is offering 3% over the employee discount and I am wondering where that puts me.

    Thanks.
  • shamptonshampton Member Posts: 53
The rates can vary based on which plan you select (and which plan is available for the model you wish to purchase).

Generally, you can go GMO 1 which is placing an order to have the vehicle built, or you can take option 2 which is a % off of a vehicle puchased off of the lot.

What company do you work for? Are they a GM Supplier?

Sounds like the pricing you are being given will bring you very close to invoice price (considering I assume you are looking at a Silverado)

    Hope this helps!
  • mledtjemledtje Member Posts: 1,123
Unless you are into off-road, you will only use the 4wd one or two times a year. The LS features will be with you every day.

Also the 2WD will carry 300lbs more payload than the 4WD. And about 1mpg more.

Don't get me wrong, I have a 4wd base model and faced the same problem you are facing. I went 4wd because of a planned trip to Alaska. We did 2000+ miles of dirt and gravel and never needed 4wd. 2wd and posi would have seen us through it all. I don't regret the decision though, the peace of mind was worth it.

    Cindy,

Hold in there....get your mind off it....time will fly.

Opie....4WD always holds it's value...but LS's will be more desireable than a base? Your call. I'd get 4WD.

    Poolzy,

GMO got me a 3/4 LT for almost $1500 Under invoice.

    3/4 LT was a dream.

    No rattles/shimmy's/shakes...no nothing at 55-90.

Mileage has been even better than I thought too.

Parents just bought a 2000 blazer with that same discount its the suppliers discount. My dad works for ispat inland (formally inland steel) which makes steel for gm. His was 3% over what regular gm employess pay. If you are looking to buy a silverado with that deal throw it away they wont accept it. They dont have to accept it. I was gonna use it but they would take it and i have only heard one instance in this area which they did and it was because the guy was buddy buddy with the owner. Its a very nice deal blazer listed $32500 got it for like $28000. DOnt have it yet though get it later this wk. If you need any more info email me at ryanbab28@aol.com or post it on here i know pretty much everything about the deal since i just had first hand expeirence with it.

GMO 18% below invoice. GMS 15.5% below invoice I called the GM 800# And got these quotes from GM, I was also told GMO is resticted at this time due to demand on silverado. My local dealer said GMS nooooo problem!!!!! also said wait a little while for GMO. TOM CLARK CHEVY. MCKEESPORT, PA.

    BELOW MSRP

    We know what you mean.

The oil minder does not know the condition of the oil. It simply predicts what the condition of it should be given rpm, temp, hours, and time since you last reset it.
  • mgdvhmanmgdvhman Member Posts: 4,157
Try carwizard.com...KBB.com....and see what Invoice is....then decide if it's a good deal.

About 200-800 over invoice seems to be a good deal around here.

Invoice is what the dealer pays....don't be afraid to push the price close to invoice...he also gets 3% of the price back from GM after the sale. he can sell for invoice..and still walk away with some good cake in his pocket.

    Cindy,

I'm still here (vince4 & vince5 same). I think your dealer is full of $*!(@. 6 weeks and still no order # says to me that they don't have many allocations or they are using them for someone else. First I would go to the dealer and get their story just in case it makes sense (not likely) and give them one more Tuesday to put up or shut up. If no order then go make a new deal somewhere else. According to my salesperson GM issues the order number immediately when they enter the order so your dealer hasn't placed the order and you won't be losing any time. Choose a large dealership which has a better chance with allocations. If you want to come to CA to get one I'll give you a number to call!
  • vince4vince4 Member Posts: 1,268
    shampton,

My dealer told me it typically takes 2 weeks from when they enter the order to get a build date. Then ideally it's about 6 weeks to get the truck (based on GM's 8 week total time estimate) but she said it often goes longer. I expect more like 10-12 weeks total is realistic but who knows. I should get a build date in a week and I'll post a message then.
  • vince4vince4 Member Posts: 1,268
    opie,

I say go with the LS and get the locking rear end. That should cover 90% of 4wd need and you'll enjoy the LS trim every day. The difference between base & LS is vast.
  • vince4vince4 Member Posts: 1,268
    oste,

That sounds like a fair deal, about $3200 off MSRP. I agree with Tim on the going rate. I paid $500 over (+ advertising) which worked out to around $3k under MSRP.
  • john104john104 Member Posts: 11
1st, MKSALEM, thanks for the info on the seats, I'll ask my dealer what gives.

2nd, I noticed the wheel lock set the dealer put on the truck mentioned retorquing after 25 miles. So I checked them and they were all loose (breaking from 80 to 100 ft lbs, the stock lug nuts were breaking at about 120 ft lbs). I retorqued all the lug nuts to 140 ft lbs per owners manual.

3rd, This 2wd LS ext cab has the P235/75 R16 General Ameri660 AS rubber. So far no vibration. But when I checked the pressure the dealer had pumped them up to 40psi, they are rated for 44psi max. The ride had seemed a little bumpy and the sticker on the door said 35psi. So I reduced the pressure to 36psi. The ride and handling are now much better.

    FYI
  • mgdvhmanmgdvhman Member Posts: 4,157
    Cindy,

Don't cancel just yet...you may screw yourself.

Just because somebody gets an allocation faster does not mean they all should be that fast. Different areas and dealers will take different times.

    hang on!

Back to the oil thread... Another syntetic oil you might want to consider is AmsOil (www.amsoil.com). I have been using it in my trucks for 20 years and am 100% satisfied. My 77 silverado has 306,000 miles on it now and still doesn't use or burn oil. You know how it usually looks under the valve covers after 100,000 miles - thick black crud - not on this truck. Still as shiny and clean as the day I bought it new.

AmsOil guarantees (in writing) a 25,000 mile drain interval if you use their filters (about $6.50 ea) and change the filter at 12,500. I change my oil every 15,000 and the filter every 7,500.

I just ordered a new 2000 Silverado a month ago. Before I placed the order, I spoke with the service manager about using AmsOil and the extended drain interval. He informed me that they not only support it, they carry it. He said that they decided to carry it after a considerable # of customers requested it.

AmsOil costs about the same as Mobil 1, but has a much higher shear point and doesn't break down under extreme temps (thus the longer drain interval).

I don't work for AmsOil or sell it. Just a "VERY" satisfied customer!

    Nocarters and VINCE5:
I suppose the reason for the delay in getting an allocation (or order #) is because I wanted a 3/4 ton. Some dealers tell me those are scarce, GM is allocating most of those to southern states (no fair!). Seems like my dealer IS TRYING to no avail. They just keep telling me that GM is not taking my order. Whats a girl to do? I guess for 1/2 tons, orders are accepted right of away.

    Cindy

For your 1/2 ton orders (with an order #) what are your dealers telling YOU GUYS about delivery times? I understand from www.wheels.com that its 10-14 weeks for anything right now.

    Tim:
I can't get my mind off of it, are you kidding? Things look so grim for a 3/4 ton. Honestly I can't picture even after or if I get an order #, waiting the length of time some people had to (3-9 months). I wish I knew more of what's going on at the factory. I guess they are not able to keep up with demand. I think its a crock because Ford sells more trucks, they aren't having trouble. (Please no hits for the Ford comment).

I will have to go out to the dealers next week to see what my options are. I am happy that you love your truck, though. I wish I were in your shoes.
  • mportermporter Member Posts: 11
Hang in there, I think it'll be worth it. The 3/4 tons definitely take longer. Did you get any options on the hold list? The PYO alum wheels were holding up my order. As soon as I took those off GM picked up the order right away( after 9 weeks of waiting). Got my order number now! Hope to have an build date soon. Time sure seems to be ddddrrrraaaaggggiiiinnngggg. I've always believed in heavy duty, 3/4 Ton or none!

cindy, my truck is a 3/4. Specifically 2500 4wd reg cab LB LS with most options including PYO alloy wheels, power seat (not leather), auto-trac, camper mirrors, tow package... So I don't know what's going on. I feel lucky after hearing your story. The only restriction I ran into was for the long bed but that was gone in a week. I guess if you have faith that your dealer is doing as well as any in your area then stick with them. I would visit another dealer and see what they say though. Good luck, it'll be worth the wait.

PS. If you can find one on the lot you like, I saw a nice full size rubber mat that covers the entire front carpet area. I think it was from Performance Products, I'll look it up if you are interested.
  • krallenkrallen Member Posts: 12
    cindy,

I ordered my 3/4 ton 4x4 on July 6 and am scheduled for production September 6. Only thing I had to give up was the PYO rims also. Your dealer should be able to adjust your order also if rims or something is the problem.
  • krallenkrallen Member Posts: 12
p.s. Cincy, Just get the carpet . You can always replace it if it gets too bad. I am in concrete construction in mud all the time and my carpet always manages to survice.

    Cindy,

Problem here is the 99 1/2's were out a year ago...3/4's didn't come till late spring...and after a few months...they decided to cancel all orders. June comes around and I can reorder...I ordered the DAY you could. Now we have a year of 3/4 orders waiting to speak. 1/2's are the main bread and butter...so they have priority I'd imagine. GM has never got back into full swing yet since the year ago strike..and orders are pileing in. They are opening new plants do catch up....and another major problem seems to be a different part that keeps being short every week! The system is supposed to cut costs and be more tidy. have just enough parts for what we need to build this week. Well if any supplier falls behind...it causes big time probs. The new VOM order system is not going like they hoped either. And another strike is on the possible horizon. All these variables just make it uglier all the time. If the 3/4 line is going good and they have too many 1/2 problems...you can bet they are going to concentrate on the 1/2's more. Don't cancel out of frustration. You can always refuse delivery if you find something else. I'd wait and be patient..but if you must...take a look at surrounding states inventory?....GMBUYPOWER.com

    Good luck

    Cindy -

Placed my order last week for a 2000 1/2 ton LS with all trimings. Received my order number 5 days later, and I'm being quoted 10-12 weeks.

For what it is worth, I understand 3/4 tons are delayed due to the fall-out of the Summer'98 GM strike, which caused them to delay rolling out the new design 3/4 ton GMC's until 99 - and they never really got caught up with the 70,000 truck backlog on dealer orders alone.

Hang in there - I'm sure it will be worth the wait!

    Good Luck -

Well Cindy, I hate to interrupt the commiseration over your situation but I just read the new Truck Trend Oct. 99 (already!) issue and want to post my comments. The most disturbing news for Chevy is the dyno result compared to Ford. The GM 5.3 posted a peak 173 hp & 198 lb-ft compared to 186 hp & 250 lb-ft for the Ford 5.4, both with 3.73 axle. So hats off to Ford, I think the current version of their engine is as good as any going. Of course I'm still buying Chevy. I looked up an old issue of TT (Feb. 99) where they did a dyno test on both and the results are quite different. Chevy 183 hp & 222 lb-ft, Ford 209 hp & 281 lb-ft. It makes me wonder about the calibration of dynos. GM made such a big deal about a flat torque curve but the 5.3 seems a little weak on the low end, at least on paper. And in both cases it didn't even top the Ford in hp, what's going on?

The Tundra came out looking pretty good, actually the article seemed a little Toy biased but not too bad. It looks like Toyota got it right the second time around. But the Chevy is still best for comfort, and I think has the best 3/4T on the market. Anybody read the article yet?

    Vince4/5, Tim, mporter, krallen, shampton:

Thanks for all the encouragement. Next week when I get some time, I will stop out at the dealer and see what they have. IF I drive away with a 1/2 ton, I will probably trade it in for a 3/4 in 2-3 years. Geez, by that time, the DuraMax 6.6
V-8 will be out. Wouldn't that be something on wheels?

I understand the delays, what is the most frustrating is hearing about Tim driving around in his new truck (KIDDING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) ;-)Actually, what is frustrating is not knowing HOW LONG....

    Thanks for all your input.

Don't cancel unless you first find one on a lot you can deal on.
