I'm also trying to find out what options are for the 2006 EXL. I don't understand why the Honda IPOD link doesn't work on the EXL. Can anyone confirm whther there is an available AUX connector in the back ot the EXL radio, or is exveything taken up by the XM radio? Is there someway I can use a Y-connector if the XM is taking up the free AUX input? My radio clearly has separate buttons for XM and AUX, so you'd think it was designed to handle both!

We own a Yukon with factory-installed DVD. It works well, but at the price (about $2000 for Yukon or Pilot), I would go with portable dvd players. The kids can use them in any car and on vacation, etc.

Is there anyone else that is noticing that the 2006 Honda Pilot (projection)headlights are significantly under-powered? On rainy nights they provide very low visibility. Any recommendations on adding fog lights, such as the spec lights for better visibility? Do they make a difference?

What about a reading for remaining fuel range and exterior temperature? Also, Accord comes with dual climate control and from what I can tell, Pilot does not. I am looking into purchasing a 2006 Pilot...am driving a 2005 Nissan Maxima now.

I would like to buy some accessories for my Pilot and I have read the various postings to the Internet sites for prices. I called several of the sites but they will not take a telephone sale.

I called two dealers whose prices for the parts are almost $75 dollars more than the Websites.

Does anyone know of a place where I can get a decent price on the accessories without having to do it via the Internet?

    Thank you.

According to the dealer at Pensacola, the only hitch that will void your warranty is if you install a hitch with the coolers and evaporators other than the factory version with coolers and evaporators. Lesser hitches are fine.

You might want to consider a clear bra. They're hardly noticeable, and you don't have to worry about them getting wet. The pieces are custom fit so they should be available. If you go to an independent shop the prices are usually reasonable.

I'm looking around trying to get an overhead DVD unit installed. I also have a 2005 Pilot with Navi. I'm running into obstacles from some dealers due to the sunroof. Those that have installed an aftermarket overhead DVD system, did you have to have any modifications done to support the weight of the unit?

I think the 03-05 Pilot bra would fit; the biggest difference is the grill opening area, and the bra is open in that area. I have the full bra on my 05, can send a pic if you desire/provide email addy.

I bought mine (Honda OEM) from BernardiParts.com for about $120 (add $10 s&h) as I remember. I had to ask them about it, as it wasn't on their site, but I was already ordering the floor mats, cargo mat, cross bars, mud guards, etc)

Thanks for the info.will follow up with Bernardi

    Thanks again.

    Pilotman1,
" I went to U-haul and had one installed for about $225. " - that was just installation (labor) cost, not hitch and labor?

I have found hondaacuraworld.com as generally the best source for Honda and Acura accessories. They do orders by phone as well. Shipping is included I believe.

Does anyone know if I can program pilot to use 1998 Accord keyless remote?

    Welcome to any suggestion.

I just had a 10" aftermarket DVD player installed in my 2006 EX-L NAV. Dealer did not install themselves, but took it to a local place (Samm Sound) that does all their installs for them. Does not interfere w/ moonroof operation at all, but I had a slight problem w/ the headliner sagging just a slight bit on the driver side around the moonroof, which they fixed. But now I am getting a bad rattle when I go over bumps - not all bumps, but enough of them. Does not rattle when I have the moonroof shade opened. Had it back once to have it fixed, they claimed they didn't hear anything unless they went over a "pothole the size of a crater on the moon", but they installed some extra foam or something anyways. Did not fix the problem, still happens. Anyone have a similar experience?

I just ordered a DVD headrest setup package from the web. I will most likely need to remove some parts in my 2005 Pilot along the way for this install.

Is there any documentation or website that will guide me through where to find 12 volts + the ignition wire? As well as how to remove the console around the stereo?

    Thanks.

Does anyone find the Park Pilot useful? Where can one get this installed in Canada (Toronto area)...any clues. The dealer is charging $1000+ for install, which is outrageous for 4 ultrasonic sensors.

I was planning to purchase the Honda Cargo Mat. Now it does fit perfectly with the 3rd Row Seats folded. But can I fold the Cargo mat, when the 3rd Row Seats are up...or my only option is to remove the Cargo mat when the 3rd Row is up.

Do any other options exist...other than the Cargo Liner
  • qbrozenqbrozen Member Posts: 33,640
i think you are referring to the molded cargo tray that we had in our Pilot. If so, it will roll up. Although still a bit bulky, we would roll it and secure it with the small cargo net that comes with the car.

Yes, I was referring to the moulded cargo tray. If it does roll up, then it serves my purpose....the one off time when i need to bring the 3rd row up. Thanks for the feedback.

I have a Honda Pilot 2003 recently I am experiencing a problem where I have had to change the tires several times. I have 50,000 miles and I am on my third set of tires (Continental tires). The problem is not that the tires are wearing out rather they are becoming egg shaped and getting a thumping sound when on the highway. It sounds as if the belt lining in the tire has severed. When I mentioned this to the service rep at the dealership last time they responded that they could not find anything wrong with the vehicle. The last tire change was completed at a tire center near me and the sales person informed me that the two tires he removed were egg shaped.
  • qbrozenqbrozen Member Posts: 33,640
since it is an issue affecting your tires, I would suggest calling the experts who deal only with tires ... the manufacturer. Ask them if there is a known defect in their tires or if they know of any problems a vehicle would have that would cause the issue you are having.

Wierd. I'm wondering whether your shocks are worn out

I have an 06 pilot and yes the fog lights make a difference especially up close. I think the projector headlights do a good job. If you want a much brighter light output replace the stock H11 bulbs with PIAA bulbs they make a difference. These are the ones i installed on our 06 and i really like them a lot, and so does my wife. They are really easy to install/replace. They are pretty expensive though. :)

The original tires were Goodyear or Michelin when the vehicle was purchased from the dealer. They went bad around 14 months. The second were from Continental and still the same problem about a year after. The third time one on the rear and one in the front were changed. I am going to contact Continental anyway and as Lumber 1 suggested check the shocks. However the tire replacement shop I went to last checked out other possible causes and never mentioned the shocks.

Reviewing old messages and ran across the pics of your H.P. I noticed the wind deflector on your sunroof. Any suggestions on brands and where to find them?

I'm very interested in the 06 Pilot EX-L; but I don't like the new front grille design. The brochure has one small picture of a Pilot with an optional front grille (honeycomb design); but I can't find any further information about the grill or see a more detailed picture of it. A couple of local dealers can verify that such a part exists; but they can't refer me to any place that I can see a picture. I would really appreciate any information anyone has about the optional front grille. Thanks.
  • calgcalg Member Posts: 53
Go to H and A accessories at the top of this page. Click on 2006 Pilot exterior accessories and you will find the grill that you want. We traded in our 03 for an 06 and at first I was not crazy about the front grill either. However, it has grown on me and I actually like the silver bars now more than the honeycomb.
  • kabillkabill Member Posts: 35
I don't like the new grille either, especially on the darker vehicles. I did see the optional grille on a 2006 Sage Brush Pearl Pilot at a car show last month. IMO it IS an improvement-- very classy and rugged looking at the same time.
The cells of the honeycomb are bigger than those of the 2003-2005 Pilot grilles, but that goes with the bigger "H", which is retained from the stock grill and used on the accessory grill should you choose to spend the 300.00--or so--to get it.
    It IS great looking.

I'm with you, kabill. And I'm looking for exactly that vehicle - 06 Pilot in Sage Brush Pearl. Am being quoted around $400 - but will see how low we can go. Thanks.

Hi. First time poster. I have a question: Is it possible to get a 06 Pilot EX-L 2WD with BOTH the Nav and DES? I assume yes, but it seems every place I've looked shows it as almost an "either/or" trim level option... Some clarity would be appreciated. Thanks.
  • karlzunikarlzuni Member Posts: 20
Sorry but the answer is no. If you want both, one would have to be an aftermarket addition.
  • davexpertdavexpert Member Posts: 9
Sad to hear that, but glad to hear that i'm not as dumb as I thought. Appreciate the prompt response! Thanks!

Recently purchased 2006 Pilot with navi. Does anyone have any pictures or advise for getting a rear entertainment system installed. Has anyone had the honda RES installed by a dealer?
  • pilot3rdpilot3rd Member Posts: 13
Great experience with them over 4.5 yrs.
Have bought items for 02 Accord, 03 Ody, and 06 Pilot.
    Very fair shipping charges.
  • kabillkabill Member Posts: 35
They're first-rate. I don't see how you could go wrong, as long as you, or somebody you hire, can install the accessory.

I am interested in midsize SUV and I am looking at both toyota /HOnda midsize SUVs.

Is honda pilot based on accord? or in other words does it feel like car driving? How about roll over effect in Pilot? Is it same as other SUVs or minimum like cars?

How Pilot differ from CR-v? Both are midsize SUVs.

I think Pilot is V6 and does having 4WD helps in some way?

How much gas miles do you get (both highway and city w/wout AC)

    Thanks in advance.

yes hondadriver1, I just signed up to this forum to answer your question. I recently purchased '06 Pilot EX-L with Navi and dealer installed RES. Dealer didn't have any decription or demo of the RES, since dealer gets it installed from a third party. All he told me ,that it was 10.2" screen audiovox overhead and assured me it very similar to the manufact. At he delivery, the installation looked very good and professional, it's grey color 10.2" overhead system with 2 wireless headphones. But here is the problem I'm having with my DVD system and the dealership. When I used for the first time in 2 hr. trip. I got lots of interference from other station feeding in while playing a movie. later I found out that beacuse the system uses FM MODULATION scheme if you want to listen from your car speakers. You have to tune your DVD system to 1 of the 5 provided freq. and tuned you radio to same freq. and you can hear the movie from your car speakers. Now I'm little ticked off that I keep on getting this interference while driving in long trips. You can change to another freq. and it may be good for another say 0.5 hr. and then same problem. So it gets annoying time to time. I went back to the sales dept. to get it hardwired to the radio using aux input behind my radio. But they tell me there is no aux input in pilo radio. I don't believe it since front panel radio does have AUX botton. They were going to call installer to see what can be done. It's been about month now since I bought the car but no resolution so far. I keep on calling and leaving messages but they hardly return any of my call. I personally went there twice they are very ignorent of the problem and keeps on assuring me that they'll contact this person and that person So if you decide to go with anyone, please make sure it's hard wired to your radio. Generally speaking it works fine with FM mod. but you may get other channel freq. once in a while.

Sorry to hear about your problem rajar thanks for sharing the information. I am thinking about doing the headrest option now. My children are small and I think it would be awkward for them to look up at the ceiling during long rides and I would lose the function of the rearview mirror.

Is there any option of adding an MP3 Player ? Does the DVD player in the EXL w/ RES play MP3 CDs ? Does anyone know which manufacturers DVD entertainment system is used in the Pilot ? TIA. :)

Has anyone installed daytime running lights on a recent Pilot using an aftermarket DRL Module or just relays?
  • cmoe22cmoe22 Member Posts: 5
I love both my Hondas, but the stereos are really sub par. My new Pilot has the 6 disc changer w/ Res so I am really afraid to mess with any of that. I would like to add an amp and replace some speakers. I dont suppose anyone has had any experience w/ this. Or has anyone put in a new stereo? I also am looking for ipod options.

So many questions, so few answers :confuse:
