My wife wants me to add leather seating to our LX. We have a baby on his way and leather seating will be easy to clean. However, a dealer told me that adding leather to a car with side airbags renders them inoperable. Is that true? Thanks.
A Pilot salesman told me that I cant do any towing without the Honda tow package. I need to tow a light[1500lbs] popup camper and planned an aftermarket hitch. He said this would void the warranty; the package costs 1200$ and includes tranny cooler. I dont need all that for my towing and think it unreasonable to not allow any hitch other than Honda. I also read a mpg report of only 10 with only light towing; that sounds pretty bad. Any comments?
I have a Honda Pilot 2006 with Navi. I want to add Bluetooth to integrate my cell phone into the system. I called Honda and they said that only the Acura MDX had the bluetooth useability. Does anyone know a way to modify the Navi? Do anyone know the manufacturer of the Honda Navi systems? Thanks in advance for all your help.
You need to get an FM modulator that disables the antenna. Take the car to a stereo store (I think Circuit City does this) and have them replace the FM modulator with one that you can manually disable to radio antenna. They'll put a little toggle switch (make sure its hidden) and everytime you want to listen to the DVD through the car speakers, just flip the switch and put the radio on to the correct station.
Works like a charm, drove from NY to FL last summer and did not get 1 interference
Just purchased a 2006 Pilot EX 4WD. Will receive it next Saturday. Anyone know how to have the foglights work with the parking lamps or head lamps instead of the headlights only? Thanks Jeff
The towing package is very important if your going to tow anything. It installs a Auto Tran Fliud Cooler, Oil Cooler, Heavier Alternator, and a Brake Fluid Cooler, not to mention 4 and 7 pin wire kits, and the hitch.
I just purchased my Amazon Green '06 Pilot EX on July 27th and am going to be picking it up on Sat. The dealer threw the towing package in at no charge to sweeten the deal to put my wife over the hill on deciding. And yes not having the towing package can void the warrenty in certain situations.
I bought a 06 Pilot EX-L without the navigation package. But now I want to have the Honda in dash navigation system that comes with the Pilot. I am not sure how do I get it? Is it something that is not possible now ??? I dont want to buy the seperate navigation systems avalable in market. Can I go to a dealer and he can install it easily and if yes does anyone know how much it costs?
I just added a kit that I purchased from this company: http://www.parrotkits.com/ The install was pretty easy (no cutting into the factory wiring) and the system works fantastic. I also have an Acura TL with bluetooth, and the Parrrot system has some features that the TL does not.
I'm always leery of sites that run off of PayPal and don't provide any contact info except an email address. Lots of disclaimers on that site too. A search on Parrot Kit flops a lot of hits for companies that don't mind saying who they are.
I understand your reservations, but my experiance was great. The cable worked with my '06 NAV Pilot without any modifications to the factory wiring. I couldn't be happier. BTW, I found the company on the web and gave them a shot. They shipped quick, and the product worked.
That's wonderful! I don't mean to dump on PayPal but they are pretty useless if any kind of dispute arises - such as the seller not delivering the product. Nevertheless, I use the service as long as the cost of an item isn't too great.
What you are saying about the Honda Pilot OEM towing package is not true. It includes a heavier power steering cooler (increases volume) and it includes a transmission cooler. It does NOT do anything to the alternator or brake fluid. In addition, it only has a 4-wire lighting plug along with the hitch.
You can see what the hitch looks like here and even download the installation instructions for further clarification. Hitch LinkCoolers Link
I just purchased my Pilot and turned down, what they called, the "SHOCK" security system. Although I do want to purchase this system (I have it on my Civic and its great), I was not about to pay $600 for it. The finance guy didn't even feel like haggling.
Does anyone know how to go about purchasing this system after the fact? I saw it on anythinghondaonline.com and its about $260. Can I just buy it and find someone to install it or should I take it to my dealer and have them do it? I guess I could also have them break it down and have them match the price.
Could you do a favor and explain in more details the installation process. How difficult it is to get to the back of the stereo to hook up the adapters, how did you run wires for mic. and display. Pictures would be the best. Thanks in advance.
Honda will not sell it nor will they install it. Their are a few palces where you caan buy the complete Navigation equiptment but it is over 3k for all of the equiptment and honda will not install so you would need to install yourself or a 3rd party installer.
You can however purchase some units from Pioneer that have the same look and feel as the Honda system. They fit flush, are tocushcreen and have voice commands. You would need a few more parts to get things like bluetooth and to amke sure the steering wheel radio controls working with the Pioneer units.
As of now, I'm looking to add some stuff to my '06 Pilot. If anyone happened to already get any of the items I'm going to list below, let me know what kind of price you paid and how they look (have not seen any yet.)
I just got a new 2006 EX-L and the cargo net that came standard with the car looks different from the one on the Honda.com homepage. Mine cargo net does not create a pocket to trap things in as the one in the pics. It seems to be just a flat net that stretches from one end to the other and has 4 hooks to connect to the anchors. It seems to just be a net or barricade. Did they give me the wrong one?
Running boards are like a big flat platform to step on and side steps are more like two flat spots on a steel tube. The side steps look better and more rugged (IMO). I hope that description helped. I bought the sidesteps.
I am planning to purchase either the side steps or running boards aftermarket and install them myself. Did you buy it from the dealer or aftermarket? Is it difficult to install them?
I bought my sidesteps from the dealer and had them install them.. but only because I didnt feel like doing it myself. Here is a link to the sidestep installation:
Does anybody knows where to buy a wireless headphone for the DVD of 06 Pilot? I got 2 from the dealer when I bought the vehicle. I want to buy 1 more. Thank you.
update, Well it looks like I won't be able to get the Rear Bumper Guard because it cannot be installed with either the back-up sensors, or trailer hitch in place.
Well I picked up my 2006 EX...yesterday...and already shopping for accessories, and was hoping to get some of your feedback. First off, cloth seats and I have 3 kids sitting in the middle row most of the time. Any ideas on seat covers that I can take off every 6 months and wash? Here is one link I found, any more, or any suggestions?
Also there is the dog, groceries and muddy boots that will go in the back when the 3rd row is down. Any input about the Honda Cargo Liner, or Cargo Tray. Are there any 3rd party (Husky) that really covers the area behind the 2nd row, even up the sidewalls?
Thanks so much for this group...I have already learned what cross bars to get ;^>
I just went through the same thought process. I purchased parts from www.hondapartsdeals.com and they were shipped the next day. I ordered the roof rack cross bars, rear mud guards, wheel locks, all season floor mats and the cargo liner. The dealer wanted $99 for the wheel locks and I got them for $35.
As for the tow package, I agree with you - let the dealer do it. However, you can probably get a good deal for the parts and just have your local dealer do the install.
I just got the cargo tray and it's great. It covers the entire back with the third row down. I haven't tried to see what happens with the 3rd row up, but I don't plan on using that too often anyway.
Have you installed the Ventshade Bugflector II (Clear) on your 06 PILOT? I am interested in the bug shield, but has read some reviews saying the installation kit comes with it are little loose and not going to hold it well without fixes. And some fixes require drilling. Not sure if it is the case for 06 PILOT. :confuse:
Not yet, I haven't even purchased the bugflector yet. As soon as I get it and install it I will pop a few pics and put them up. I decided to go with the clear instead of the black because the black will fade after a little time. The one I am looking at getting comes with the pop-screws. You pop them in, then screw to tighten, kinda like drywall anchors.
I'm really looking forward to getting the rear taillight bars (guards). I will also pop a picture on here when those get put on.
My understanding is that the limit on the factory set up is 1,000 pounds. From 1,001 to 3,500 you need to install the tranny and power steering coolers. I believe you can get the entire set (hitch, wiring, coolers) for around $600. My advice, if you are towing, install the coolers. They are relatively easy to do and there are real-world step by step instructions for completing the job at the honda pilot org site.
Does anyone know what the difference is between the standard alarm system that is suppose to come with the 07 Pilot EX-L with Navi and the Silencer alarm system that the deal is trying to sell me??
Well, I ordered the CLEAR bug deflector and the Crossbars today. I will snap a before / after pic with each accessory I add. This take 2 of the things I wanted to add off the list.
List now stands at; 1. Bug Deflector - Clear (ordered) 2. Crossbars (ordered) 3. Taillight Brush Guards Link 4. Fender Flares Link 5. Chrome Exhaust Tips Link 6. Front Grille Replacement (maybe) Link 7. Grille Guard w/ Brush Link (I still haven't decided if I'm going to get this or not.)
well here are the before and after pics of the crossbars. In hindsite I should have taken a few pics during the install, but I wanted to get them on between the rain storms that were comming through (plus while my daughters were taking naps). It took me all of about 15 mins to install (it's amazing how fast you can get something done when you read the directions. :shades: ). Before (and also before I used my leaf blower to dry the car.)
Got the Bugflector II in the mail today and when I got 'The Beast' back from the dealer, I went ahead and popped it on. Man does it look good, and being that it is CLEAR, it is really low profile, from about 5ft out you can't even tell it's there.
Pics (before);
Pics (after);
I'm very happy with the Bugflector II from AVS. It is nowhere near as big as the Honda OEM bug deflector. It took me about 5 mins to put it on. It has 4 pop-screw fasheners (kinda like Drywall anchors) to hold in place. I also love the reflection of all the clouds on the hood from the fresh wax job by dealer.

4. Waag Rear Brush Guard (Black)
5. Waag Rear Tail Light Guards
The last three from Waag are awhile down the road before I buy them.

it wouldn't be worth saving $50-$100 if i can't get it with the wiring and plug attached to the hitch.
having that plug in hanging, as I have it on my Honda Odyssey sucks.
anyone know what Honda charges for the hitch?
I just bought a hitch for under $250 shipped
Thanks
does anyone know anything about the cargo organizer? does it come in handy? does anyone have one they don't use!
i purchased cargo tray and love it.
welcome to the club! the Pilot is awesome!
As for the organizer, it just looks like a glorified box to me. :-)
I'm really looking forward to getting the rear taillight bars (guards). I will also pop a picture on here when those get put on.

then I see it says for towing you need to order a $200 transmission cooler :confuse:
I thought the Pilot didn't need a tranny cooler for towing.
I'm talking about towing maybe 1,500 lbs tops
