Have really been shopping for this one and here in Houston through the end of the year any new Pilot $1,500.00 under MSRP. Email me for details. Great selection and great price These guys are great. Walked in to Gillman Honda and talked to Sal asked him the price and he wrote it down. No games like are you really serious about buying. A real no nonsense deal that left me impressed. Will for sure do business here again.

Guys...has anyone baught a car from outside their own state and had it delivered to you? Is it safe to do this? what are the things to watch out for? How does the warranty work?

    Brian125,
Couldn't get you e-mail to work. Could you list dealers in a post here?
  • njswamplandsnjswamplands Member Posts: 1,760
i am in the process of concluding my out of area purchase/delivery ( i am in nyc area , buying from cleveland oh area ). the warranty is good nationwide.

as far as safety goes, i am not a lawyer but i think as long as you stay to a dealer that does shipping often and is in good standing in these forums, i think you should be fine.

i purchased from jay honda in cleveland ( internet guy, dennis jenkins ). from what i read in online forums and from my exchanges with them, they do alot of shipping to other states. they have honda presidents award for 1999 and 2000 ( dont know why not for 2001 ).

my vehicle is due monday afternoon and i will post again to let you know how it went. but as of right now, i have the drivers name, cell phone number and eta and dennis has been keeping me fully informed throughout the entire transaction.

others have posted postive experiences with dennis and good prices from his dealership.

    good hunting.

Just picked up a Pilot LX @ 1k over invoice and $45 doc fee. Plus the State's $$$. Talk to Internet Dept - Gus @ Norm Reeves Honda in West Covina, CA. Nicest guys I've ever done business with. No pressure, no hassle -- they say it, they mean it. Had exchanged emails with Gus and he agreed to sell me the next one he got. Tonight, Gus called me and said the truck had just arrived, and 3 hours later I was driving car home. Plastic was still on the car when I got to the lot, we were done with business before the shop had finished washing the car. Even had an email from Gus waiting for me when I got home thanking me for my business. Gus ROCKS. Paul in finance was great, too.

I got the sense that Gus will do this deal so long as you take delivery by 12/31. The ONLY pressure from him was that I had

to take delivery by 12/31 to get this price - but he didnt have my color until today! They don't take deposits - first come, first served. So be ready to buy.

  • brian125brian125 Member Posts: 5,244
looking at the current market conditions 1K over invoice is a nice pick up on the pilot i would hope all people who are buying in this forum will consider buying where the deals are.IT WILL SEND A MESSAGE TO DEALERS ACROSS THE COUNTRY and hopefully the pilot will never get out of hand like there BIG brother at ACURA and there cash cow suv the mdx.HONDA AND ACURA LIKE TO PLAY THAT SUPPLY AND DEMAND CARD. i think with honda dealers giving in to 700/800 over invoice we the consumer have to take the bull by the horns. GO WERE THE DEAL IS HAVE IT SHIPPED BACK TO YOUR STATE IF IT PUTS MONEY IN YOUR POCKET.DONT ANYBODY KID YOURSELF ALOT OF HONDA DEALERS KNOW THIS FORUM. they will never lower there prices until we the consumer expose/exploit them. like forrest gump says in the movie stupid is,is what stupid does. happy holiday and may god have extra mercy on us piloteers.

Hi, everyone, why does nobody post the drive out price on the vehicle they purchased? It would really help everyone to know what exactly to shoot for.

    Thanks
  • clpurnellclpurnell Member Posts: 1,083
Drive out is irrelavent unless you live in the exact same state. Taxes will vary by state from 0-9% can make a big difference in drive out. Purchase price should be enough then add tax and tags and that should be your drive out.

I was thinking the same thing about ny/nj honda dealers. WHO WAS GOING TO EXPOSE THEM. Hell i already sent 3 dealers in new york and 1 in newjersey my conformation emails from 4 out of state dealers who would ship to n.y. Every email stated mr brian for 750/ 800 over invoice they would sell to me. Every email had date time dealers name phone and bottom line price for the pilot. my closing line was to all of them. HAPPY HOLIDAYS FROM THE CONSUMERS IN THE HONDA PILOT FORUM.YOUR GREED IS COMMING BACK TO HAUNT YOU.

    Brian,
why are you angry at the dealers? If it's because they acted unprofessional, then I can understand. But if it's about the price they are charging, then you shouldn't let it get to you. If you had a product to sell, wouldn't you try and get the highest dollar amount possible for it?

It's all about supply and demand and economics 101. If the NY/NJ dealers can get MSRP or close to it for a Pilot, good for them. From their perspective, if you don't buy it, they will say fine and move on to the next person on the waiting list. If they find they can’t get that price then of course they’ll have to lower it at some point. If you have to blame someone, pick on Honda. They do a nice job of creating situations like this by limiting production. You as the consumer used your right to shop around and you found a great price. So don't waste your time on the negative (NY/NJ dealers), but focus on the positive (letting us know who is selling for less). I for one appreciated the tips!

    Brian,
Just bought a new pilot from John and no issues. Gave me the best price. Tried to by the Highlander but all "T" dealers really bad. I also walk out of two Honda Dealers in Ohio. I guess it all depends on who you see and what mood they are in. I got a Honda Pilot with leather, wood trim, running boards, cover for the back, day night mirror, fog lights for $32,000.

having moved to nyc area about 6 years ago it takes a bit of adjusting to the area. i have found that nyc area people hate incompetence, inefficency, being treated like an uninformed fool and being taken. And they love to talk loudly about these ills.

i think if we had a sit down with brian125, we would see his adventures are probably no less painful then most of us but brian125 just has the nyc area attitude expressed in his writings.

i like to buy new cars every 3 years. and it does give me great satisfaction knowing honda dealers across the country are being exposed in there price tactic's. i have no anger or hatred towards any human being. especially the hard working men and women trying to make a living for honda. IN FACT BUYING CARS ON THE INTERNET OR OVER THE PHONE IS ONE WAY I DO RELIEVE STRESS.it relaxes me. but njswampland in his post525 has hit the nail right on the head how i feel.AS TACO POSTED HONDA DEALERS should try to get whatever they can and thats fine I HAVE NO PROBLEM WITH THAT. the flip side IS ME THE CONSUMER I WANT TO LET THE UNEDUCATED BUYER or some one who never had a experience with a new car purchase know whats going on and the slimy things they pull.i had over 35 emails to my mail box the last 4 days. i told every body who wanted to buy a pilot about how much and what to expect. i gave contact names of three other dealerships who i didn't even buy the car from who were competent and very nice.i never said anything bad about any dealer who didn't meet my price. hell i respect the dealer ship that say mr brian i want 1500 dollars over invoice take it or leave it.anyway i feel vindacated that every dealer in my area that i dealt with knows the people on this honda forum are not stupid and there talking we know what dealers are noty and which are nice. happy holiday to all.i'm sure i;ll be back on this forum next week telling every body how i got conned some how with this out of state pilot transfer to my house.

Well thought I would share my Car buying experience and why I ended up with an odyssey. This might get long so consider yourself warned.

For the past 3-4 months I have been steadily looking for a new vehicle. I had a few must haves for my next vehicle. Must seat at least 7. Must have rear A/C and Heat. Must have full power and Cd. Must not break the bank. I considered everything from the new XC90 to the Kia Sedona. The finalists for me were as follows Ford Expedition (03) and Explorer, MDX, MPV, Honda Pilot and Odyssey. I came really close to pulling the trigger on a Pilot and Expedition but walked away at the last minute. First why I didn't choose the others.

    Ford Expedition:
I actually liked this the best. It had a lot of room and features not available on others. Safety Canopy, Rear back up sensors in dash 6 disc player and more on the Eddie Bauer. The bad part was price, gas mileage and resale value. I think the reliabilty would be ok it is the most reliable full size SUV and the Expedition board has not posted of many problems. The resale really killed it and the fact that this would be my second car I couldn't justify paying 35k+ for it.

    Ford Explorer:
I liked this too. Rented one and was very impressed. The third row wasn't usable enough for me and the resale on these are horrendous. I don't keep cars more than 3 yrs so resale is a big thing. I have office mates that have had bad experiences with explorers also so I stayed away.

    Acura MDX:
Before Driving the Expedition this was my favorite. It was safe seated 7 and a luxury vehicle and nameplate. What killed it for me was pricing I refused to pay MSRP and this vehicle would have been 10k more than the vehicle I bought with almost the same powertrain. Sorry I don't have cash to throw away like that.

    Honda Pilot:
Nice truck but the styling is very bland and the third row seat is pretty tight. Even though I could get a decent price it would have been 3-5k more than the oddy and just not worth it.

    MPV:
I think resale value and size kind of killed it for me it is a nice van. I may have paid 2500 more for the oddy but I think I will see that on the back end.

    Odyssey:
My wife and I are pretty young and felt that we weren't ready for minivan life. But having two kids and a house told us we were. The odyssey had the best blend of what we liked of the other vehicles. Almost all the same features of the pilot minus awd plus more room and cargo space. The Oddy almost offers as much room as the expedition and will probably get better gas mileage than my current car. Add in the fact that I got a good price and 3.49% financing I would have been dumb not to take it. Below is a break down of what I paid. I probably paid 3-400 more than I should have but I got the exact color and features I wanted right now with no wait. I purchased at gillman honda in Houston.

MSRP of Midnight Blue Pearl EX - 27360
Sealant side sticker of 695 (refused to pay this)

    Purchase Price - 25671
    Tax (6.25%)- 1604.45
Title, license, doc and misc - 176
Vin etching and security system - 299
    Gap Insurance - 302
Total out the door price is right at 28000

I was offered a 6yr/80k mile warranty for 1195. I agreed at first but will cancel and buy a honda care warranty off the net if needed but like I said I usually don't keep vehicles more than 3 yrs so this will be a waste. I also received 3.49% for 60 months. All in all I think it was a good deal.

i nuked some popcorn had a beer and enjoyed your car story.good job. clpurnell the oddy is a great minvan. i agree about the pilot style. still great for the family. resale value is important and crash test.2 big factors when buying.

where in texas?? In south Louisiana was offered $1500 off EX-L because repeat buyer and help from friend of GM. Thought about traveling to Houston to try deal.

I have a 97 Accord 120,000. Have had continued problems with sensor light coming on, but dealer is still repairing under warranty. Also, window motor at driver side hasn't worked in a while and always was a problem. Hope that's not the case with the Pilot.

I'm used to my Suburban, but think the Pilot good option for wife, although I like the 4runner and sequouia too. Any comments on Pilot vs Toyotas?

    Thanks

    Hi,
I am looking for a Pilot EX-L with Leather and
DVD in Chicago area. What do you think is a fair
    price?
Also, how do you think I can bargain better,
given that these are selling like "hotcakes"?
  • clpurnellclpurnell Member Posts: 1,083
I think 1k over invoice is a plenty fair offer. Get a quote from detroit Metro dealers to play against them. Use internet inventory searches of dealers in you area and find exactly what you want and go in ready to buy that day. To bad you aren't in texas it is easy to get 1000 to 1700 off.

My sister just purchased an EX w/o lthr or Nav and paid $29.4K. The salesdude said that the MSRP was $33K and she was getting a great deal. I don't know what addons it has but she said that he thru in some side steps that retail for ~$1K. All in all, shes very happy since shes a big Honda fan. She also looked at the Accord, Highlander, Xterra, Passat, S40 and IS300. But after checking out info on Edmunds decided on the Pilot, and loves it!

I got my Pilot LX more than a month ago for $26200, which is about $1700 above invoice. It seems people are getting lower prices now.

Two days ago, I picked up a Pilot EX-L at Gillman Honda in Denison, Texas. I purchased it over the internet from the Internet Sales Manager, Jay Smith (I would give you his e-mail address, but Edmunds does not allow it, however I think I can give you the website address: gillmanhonda.com, and they are located in telephone area code 903). Denison is about an hour drive North of Plano/Dallas near the Oklahoma border. I have agreed not to divulge the exact price, but I have read all of the 537 messages posted on this site to date, and I can honestly promise you that I paid MUCH MUCH less than ANY of them. This is my fifth new Honda purchase, and it was by far the easiest purchase I have ever made. Jay is honest and straightforward with absolutely NONE of the typical sales games, trash talk and BS that I've experienced with most other dealers. I got absolutely no add ons and did no trade in, so I know that my price was the best I have seen so far.

    de michi,
Try Dan at Friendly Honda, I order my EX-L with Nav for $2,266 off the MSRP in Sep. However, I'm STILL WAITING FOR MY PILOT!! My delivery date was set for Dec 24th. But, they just told me it's not going to get built until Dec 31st for whatever reason. (I hope there will not be a workmanship concern). As for the big surprise that I promised my wife for this Christmas, a sale receipt and a picture I printed from Edmund. This is the only Christmas there are nothing under the tree or in the garage for my wife since we got married 15 years ago. I really should have a back-up plan. Man, I hope the day is getting better. Marry Christmas to you all.

Where do I find a Red Honda Pilot EX-L model in and around Dallas/Forthworth area. Many of the dealers I have visited do not seem to have the red color.
  • brian125brian125 Member Posts: 5,244
i would check your neighboring states dealership inventory. if you found a good dealer you could order it and wait if you really want red. here in new york most dealers were telling me the black pilot was hard to come by. i go out of state not only is it easy to find. i pull off a deal of 700 over invoice. plus all accessories for almost invoice.

I live in Jackson Michigan and our dealer,ART MOEHN HONDA took 2% off of MSRP. Although it is not a lot, it sounds like a good price compared to what everyone else is getting. Not only that, they will trade for another car to get what you want. I chose to wait since I am not in a hurry. My Pilot will arrive from the factory the second week in January. Normally they can find a car within a few days.

Thanks to all for all of the info I picked up here. I was able to purchase a Silver EX-L with DVD for $31,340 (net-no taxes). While not invoice, the price was decent considering availability here. I purchased it from South Motors. The best deals are given to those that email the dealership. If you just walk in the door they will not work with you. Their address is sales@southhonda.com. I dealt with the fleet manager, James Ballesteros and Jude the salesman. Jude is too nice a guy for the car business-I hope he survives. I picked up a few accessories at handaaccessories.com. I bolted on a hitch and side steps-no sweat, about 2 hours work. Once again, thanks all.
