whether you pay msrp or under for the pilot. i think it WILL be a great suv and worth every penny compared to some of the other crapy GM, CHEVY'S, PONTIAC, SUV'S ON THE ROAD TODAY.EVERY BODY IN THIS FORUM who bought one has nothing but good praise for the pilot. ACURA COULD KEEP THERE CASH COW MDX.

This is for an EX-L. I'm still working on getting more as the inventory at this dealership is quite substantial. If I can get $2480 off, I'm buying.

brian125 - looking at this board, the Pilot is very appealing; looking at the Pilot problems and solutions on this same site looks like owners are in despair. Of course, these are small numbers of respondents, but the differences between owners in these two forums is almost night and day. Have you looked at probs & solutions, and if so do you still feel the same way?

Found Pilots below MSRP with no waiting in Ohio. I got $400 off a EX-L in Sage brush.

buying a new year model one does expect to have problems with the first year.raddles, squeaks, wind noise etc. over all if you scan thru gm ,ford chevy. dodge and the rest. The pilot will be fine. I was just looking at the new dodge minvan just redesigned last year. i seen post with trany problems and other bigger problems. Who knows maybe its just luck of the draw. but your point is well noted. HONDA'S BUILD AND QUALITY OF THERE CARS AND SUV'S IS ENOUGH TO MAKE ME TAKE A CHANCE ON THE FIRST YEAR.WHEN THEY REDESIGN THE CRV I WAS ONE OF THE FIRST TO BUY. i did have some minor problems but overall i would give the crv a 2 thumps up.

This is the best deal I oculd find on a EX-L. Dealer is in Hayward. I got a good deal in Houston, but I heard that we cannot import an auto into California if we buy it in another state if the auto has less than 7500 miles on it. IS THIS TRUE? Please provide inputs on good price /dealers nad importing from other states.

Can anyone help me with a dealer in this area that will give a reasonable deal? I keep striking out. First dealer (Keenan Honda) waited four months and still no car. Ordered a black EX-L the second week of August. Checked in last weekend and dealer said car should be in within two weeks. Only catch, they dropped my trade thousands during the wait. I'm trading a BMW 323 convertible with 35K miles on it. Now the dealer is telling me they can only give me $20,000. I told him I needed $500 under MSRP and $22,500 for the trade. They wouldn't budge. Emailed a second dealer (Burns Honda -NJ) over last weekend told them what I was looking for. Sent them an offer stating I needed $22,500 and to let me know if they could do the deal. They left me a voice mail stating the numbers looked good. Drove over monday looking to take delivery only to find the dealer tell me they could only do $19,600 on the trade. I asked him if it was the condition, dealer said no, just can't do the number. I was pissed. What is the problem with these NJ/PA dealers? What should I do, should I just give in and trade for $20,000 to get my wife's Pilot. Can anyone give me help?

i would say your best bet is to sell the BMW yourself. your bmw hold goods resale value. i would buy your pilot out of state you will save 2400 dollars. i went tru new jersey and p.a. and all those dealers are full of it. they lie lie lie. what did that dealer think you would go there and you would trade for less than agreed on. THIS IS WHY I LOVE TO EXPOSE AND ABUSE CERTAIN DEALERSHIPS LIKE THE ONE IN P.A PUT THE DEALERSHIPS NAME ON THIS BOARD. email me aND i will tell you the fastest way to sell your bmw. AND PURCHASE A PILOT ///// BRIAN

brian125 have you got your pilot delivered yet? i got my odyssey monday and it has pretty much sat in the driveway awaiting the aftermarket accessories i ordered, mats, cargo liner and reverse sonar. i am still researching replacing the audio and looking into nav options ( i am looking hard at the ipaq 3800/3900 series PDAs with a addon so that i can take it easily to my other vehicles that lack nav, and store my contact list, calendar, etc ), and think i am just gonna hook up my notebook for dvd display for those rare long trips. you got any experiences in the accessories area?

    Hey, thenumberwiz1!

Brain is right you need to price out every piece of the bundle separately: new car, used car, financing, warrantee, etc... That is something that every course in AutoBuying 101 will tell you... If you do not want the hassles of selling the car yourself, you should try CarMax if they have it in your neck of the woods...

Be true to your name... crunch those numbers...

I was wondering if anyone in DC area has found a dealer that will sell a Pilot EX or EX-L for MSRP or less. The one dealer I checked (Tysons Honda) were had a couple Pilots at MSRP with $4K of dealer installed stuff. I am planning to place an order around Feb next year.

    Thanks in advance.

We bought our EX from College Park Honda this month for $1,000 under MSRP. They sell all of their Pilots for the same $1,000 off. Make sure you go through their website and request an e-mail quote. Easiest buying experience we've ever had. They charge only VA tax of 3% (MD or DC tax if you live there), $58 for one year tags, and $25 processing fee. They'll also throw in mud guards and wheel locks for free if you ask. No dealer add-ons unless you request them; painless F&I experience. Good luck.

    Melandmal,

Thanks for the info about College Park Honda. Sounds like the exact deal and experience I am looking for. I had to pay MSRP back in '99 for my Odyessy and was prepared to do the same with the Pilot. Maybe I'll move my timetable up a couple months to buy.

Did you have to wait for your Pilot to arrive? If so how long? Also, who is the internet sales manager that you dealt with at College Park Honda? . . .
  • melandmalmelandmal Member Posts: 11
We picked the color and trim that we wanted from an incoming shipment. We put $1,000 deposit down and waited about three weeks for it to come in, exactly the time that was quoted. The actual dealership building doesn't look like much, but they have an off-site storage lot that is huge. The internet sales manager is Jonathan Rundlett; his e-mail is listed on the dealership's website (against TH rules to post it here). By the way, Oddys are still going for MSRP, one of the reasons that we bought the Pilot. There's only about $1,000 difference between the two with the $1,000 off of the Pilot. Cheers.

I bought an Odyssey from a NY area dealer, but I bought my warranty online from another dealer at www.hondawarranty.com. I wound up paying about half price, and the warranty arrived in about 3 weeks.

Has anyone purchased a Pilot in Minnesota or western Wisconsin? We have been having problems getting the dealers to move on price at all. Looks like MSRP is it.

    Thanks.

Does anyone know where I can get good deals for Pilot LX in New Hampshire? I called a few dealers and they are asking for MSRP. Is it better to attempt to buy at the last few days of the month? What give you better deal, internet, phone, walk-in? Thanks for all your comments!

Has anyone heard what Honda is going to be offering when their 3.49% expires on January 2, 2003? Are they expected to extend the 3.49%, go back to the 3.99% they had been offering or something else? Any info would be helpful. Thanks.
  • anandvananandvan Member Posts: 1
I ended up buying from Commonwealth Motors - 26.6 for LX with roof rack, running board, security system with keyless, cassette player and some other misc accessories. Couldn't get any other dealer in the area to even come near that price even for the vanilla LX. I would have saved a few hundred bux had I bought it from Ohio/MI etc.. but didn't mind that for the rather hassle-free experience of a local dealer.

Dealers here in Central Florida are charging up to $500 for dealer fees. These are quite exorbitant IMO.
  • vijayguptavijaygupta Member Posts: 4
I was initially offered 4.29% as my vehicle was expected to deliver in first week of Jan 2003. Dealership told me that this is the minimum Honda is offering. My guess is 4.29% after year end...

They did their best to find me a vehicle before year end and I managed to get 3.49%. I got delivery of my black EX PILOT yesterday.

    Cheers...
  • vijayguptavijaygupta Member Posts: 4
No Fuss, No Mess, No Problem. Truely amazed by dealership professionalism. Did I buy Honda PILOT?. Yes, you hear me right.

I got delivery of PILOT 2003 EX (Black) yesterday. It was hard to keep eyes at both my beautiful wife and my new PILOT. Thought I would get a squint. I also got 3.49% year end special. I guess that this offer from Honda is for competing against Toyota and other competitors for year end sales. In previous emails, I noticed PILOT owners having problem with garage opener. I programmed all three button in PILOT. and guess what?. U need not to be a rocket scientist to guess it. They all worked as expected.

It is hard to comment completely on the performance so soon. Only amazing note is that engine hovers around 1800-2000 RPM while crusing at 70 MPH. Sounds system is great for me (but may fall short of expectation for music junkies) and climate control works great.

Negative: I need to play with power seat setting to get me a comfortable position. also wish it had memory too.

I will keep you all updated. I am anxiously waiting to pay off in 36 Months when I will be proud 'Real Owner' of PILOT.

Life is short so enjoy it. And don't forget to buy PILOT...

Anyone know what dealer costs are on accessories, especially Tow Package and Chrome bumper trim/garnish? I was told by my dealer that cost on the Tow is $750 (list is $1181 with hitch, ball, and two coolers, and that is the lowest they would install it for). Mike
  • crikeycrikey Member Posts: 1,041
try hondacuraworld.com for good prices shipped. You can get the dealership to install it for you but it'll cost you, of course. If you're a DIYer, most of the accessories include instructions. Hope that helps.

one thing that helped me was seeing others who had successful out-of-state deliveries, the dealership does many out-of-state transactions, the rep you talk to is intimately familiar with out of state transactions and can explain every detail to you and they dont yank your chain ( not even once, if they do, CYA )

i dealt with dennis jenkins at jay honda in ohio. he has the above items. he may not have the absolute bottom price but he does have a competitive price. he and his dealership do many out-of-state transactions and if you scour these honda threads you will see others that have had successful out-of-state deliveries.

I am trying to buy a pilot with dvd and leather. I have only found one in the bay area ca that is willing to discount 500 under msrp. Any suggestions? Does Honda have any holdbacks to the dealers or incentives? Thanks in advance.
  • brian125brian125 Member Posts: 5,244
you will still save 1500 dollars. wouldn't you rather keep that money in your pocket. go where the deals are. all honda dealers get 3% of msrp for every pilot they sell plus what ever they can get from you over invoice. add up what your giving them and see the big markup there sticking in there pockets. its a crime/greed they like to play that supply and demand thing. i'd love to lock them up but this is america its legal. honda probably has a airplane hanger some where with over 100,000 pilots just sitting there ready to go. the acura MDX'S ARE A BIGGER JOKE. THEY HAVE OVER 200,000 PLUS THE 04 MDX'S ARE ARRIVING IN STORAGE.YOU WANNA TALK ABOUT DEALERS WHO ARE FULL OF IT CHECK OUT ACURA. I can't imagine giving one of these acura dealer a deposit then wait 2 months to have acura tell me guess what MR JONES your mdx is here but we just installed 1500 dollars worth of options so we added another 2500 onto the bill hurry down and pick it up.JUST ON PRINCIPLE I WONT BUY ONE. THE PILOT IS A BETTER BUY ANYWAY. JUST MY THOUGHTS WHO LISTENS TO ME ANYWAY.

I purchased a new Pilot EX on 1-1-03 from Honda World In Downey. The internet sales department was a joy to deal with. After reading all of the recent posts here and negotiation with 6 socal dealers I had 3 that would go $800 below MSRP. When I called the first dealer he had just sold the car but he would have another within 1 week. The second had one with $900 in dealer installed options I was not interested in. Downey's salesman took my offer and said he would call back, it took 3 days and 3 different floor managers but he called and said come get it. We got there, no BS, no anything other than what we had agreed to on the phone. This is the way internet auto sales should be handled, professionally not pushy. By the way my wife loves her new car.

    Never Give Up,
    Mike

I have a chance to buy LX $1500 below MSRP. But I do hate the audio in it. If I do buy it, I will have to change it. EX is OK but they sell on MSRP. No offense, I do think it is non-sense to pay MSRP for any Honda or Toyota products unless you do need now. So, my question is that should I take LX and do some after market work or wait to EX price to drop? In fact, I just hate to pay too much for those greedy sales.

I live in Colorado and I'm looking for a Pilot EX. I'm ready to buy any time for cash, and I'm willing to wait for the right price and drive some distance to pick up the car.

Dealers around the Denver area are telling me that their best price is MSRP +$250 or more, and then I have to wait for delivery anyway. This is ridiculous, I've always been able to buy my new cars for invoice + a couple of percent.

Is there anyone out there who has done a better deal on a Pilot EX in the Colorado area?

If I have to, I'll get something in from out of state to get a better price. Does anyone have any suggestions for a reputable dealership, located in one of the states near CO, who will give me a better price?

    Thanks
  • clpurnellclpurnell Member Posts: 1,083
Fly to dallas or houston and drive back. We don't need awd drive vehicles so pilots are plentiful and discounted. If you chose to come to houston I can give you a couple dealers to contact. you can also get one shipped for like 3-400.

This is what I just paid in Milwaukee. Only one dealer of 4 would deal under $500 off. Also, paid dealer cost (including labor), so I was told, for accessories. $750 for towing package, $48 for wheel locks, $437 for bumper chrome garnish and $75 for pin stripe. Mike

After months of research we finally decided to purchase. Our Pilot-EX (cloth) will be delivered during the first week of February. Price paid = $29,500 OTD. ($27,480 Pilot-EX + $1,605 KY Tax + $415 doc/license/registration fees.) My estimation is that the dealer profit will be: $780 on the car + about $900 in holdback + $389 for their crazy doc. fees, or, $2069.

Picked up our Havasau Blue Pilot EX with leather on Dec. 30th. Having done everything via emails and faxes, I spent about 27 minutes in the dealership signing the paperwork, and I was on my way.. It was the most pleasureable car buying experience I've ever had! No BS, no run around, no hassles... My out the door price was $33063 broken down as follows:
    Havasu Blue Pilot EX-L............29416.00
    fog lights..................................451.00
    trailer hitch w/ tow pkg............751.00
    auto day/night mirror...............313.00
    rear splash guards...................51.00
    roof rail crossbar set..............160.00
    all-season floor mats.............included
    Document Prep........................40.00
    Michigan transit tag.................10.00
    Michigan sales tax.................1871.00
I paid an additional $923 in California fees and taxes when I registered the Pilot here in So Cal. The actual tax part of the $923 was the difference between MI taxes and CA taxes. The rest was all the lovely fees they slap on you here. I put $5000 down and financed the rest through Honda at 3.49% for 60 months. The accessory prices aren't the absolute best, but after pricing the parts on the internet and adding in my time and frustration, I decided these were reasonable prices for letting the professionals deal with it. I looked into having it shipped back, but having family in Georgia, I decided to pick up the Pilot and drive down to see everyone. Then I enjoyed a leisurely drive home in the comfort of my new Honda Pilot.

I live in the great Seattle area and have been looking for a Pilot since it came out last June. I already decided the model/color but hate to satisfy the greedyness of some dealers. A dealer from Honda of Bellevue once shamelessly ask for 10% over MSRP (even though I think he probably really expect 5% or so).

Who is protecting the rights of consumers? Wouldn't it be nice if I could directly order a pilot from HONDA, like I order a computer from DELL?

Anyway, I am still waiting for the right price. My goal is MSRP or lower, any help on this will be appreciated. I have patience on this.
