did you know bill buckner drives a pilot. if its good for bill you know its good for me. how did it feel to have the n.y. times do there little piece on the v.p. and his ride. i'm impressed.
just took delivery of my sage brush LX @ msrp AND $500 worth of accessories at no charge. Mr. Skinner is the fleet mgr at Honda World in Westminster calif. He was very honest, professional and courteous. He located the car within 2 days, with no test driven miles (4 mi on odometer). Soooo happy with the purchase. Thanx fellow pilots for the infos posted here, was very helpful. )
Response to post 637, and 638. Sounds like brian125 and braindrainer are a couple of bird-dogs. (bird-dog=people who get paid to make referrals because the salesman's profits are good enough to afford it) I don't think comparing and bragging about prices is hardly the way to go about shopping for a vehicle online. It shouldn't seem any different than demographic cost of living. Granted, inflation and wages aren't proportioned well, but each region has it's own balance, and going around looking for a deal that someone else got only weakens the economy even more. Spend your money in your area, so that your community benefits from it.
I HOPE YOU DONT INVEST YOUR MONEY LIKE YOU THINK. its all comming to me now i'm starting to see the picture. the phantom DAVID LEX, ANGIEEB, AND THE SMART INVESTOR. let me guess , a night janitor, the cleaning lady, and the frustrated salesman at that honda dealer in texas. stop wasting our forum space. every body in this forum is looking for the best deals.if you are a skilled negotiator you buy where the best deal is. right know its in ohio, or you find your best deal around your area. the name of the game is to keep as much money in your pocket and not honda's. HONDA does not give a damm about you. they want your MONEY. HURRY GO MOP THAT SPILL.
hum, sounds like wariner1974 works for those honda dealerships that demand MSRP+ for a Pilot. To brian125's defense, I happened to know that he also encourages people to get a quote from the Ohio dealers that sell Pilots for $800 over invoice and use it to negotiate with their local honda dealers.
I was very skeptical and did alot of research when buying my Pilot Jan 6th. It really is true, Jay Smith in Denison at Gillman Honda is REAL, not you usual shady salesperson. I called him numerous times because I didn't believe the deal. It was definetly worth the drive from Austin, since no one wanted to touch his deal. Take it from a true shopper his service is great and you will save money.
folks just for the record. i called gillman honda spoke to jay smith. i just want to post this message for all the member to see GILLMAN HONDA DOES NOT come close to the best deals in this forum. I HOPE ALL THE MEMBERS WILL DISREGARD THESE ILL ADVISE POSTINGS BY THESE people. LETS MOVE ON.
Ok, this is going nowhere! Either put up the numbers or stop the hype! This is a site about “What did you pay?” and not praising Jay Smith. I do not know him but this is not the place.
I do not know about you, wariner1974, but I have worked hard to earn my money and I think that paying a dealer $4k in profit (on a typical Pilot) is not good value, not for me! I am free to exercise my freedoms and buy anywhere I like! Could you tell me how I will benefit from buying from my local dealer and giving him $2k+ extra in profit. If you want to keep folks in their own neck of the woods or believe in the Central Planning Model, why don't you move to North Korea! Ok, bird-dog!
By the way, I am here to share information with fellow consumers! Why are you here? Are you here to give us tips on how to buy a car on-line? Your post was not overly helpful in that arena.
I was able to pick up a Sagebrush EX w/cloth for $1000 under msrp; off the lot. Dealer had four different models/colors in stock. It took two weeks of negotiating and not giving in to their lower counter offers. So far it has been everything I had expected it to be. No disappointments!!
After weeks of research, patience, and discussions with local dealers, I've ordered a Pilot LX from out of state. I went with the same dealer and salesman Atalay went with, Marc Douglas at Waikem Motors in Massillon, Ohio, and agreed on an identical quote Atalay received ($800.00 over invoice). That price beats the pants off of anything around here (the Washington, DC, area). There are no sweet deals for Pilots in our neck of the woods, at least not yet.
Although my truck is an LX vice Atalay's EX, I'm very pleased with the deal, financing, and shipping arrangements. Marc also said that shipment to my home would cost the same as Atalay's delivery, $350.00. I think that's a great bargain, particularly since the Pilot will arrive on a trailor, meaning there won't be any mileage added during the trip from Ohio to Virginia.
I'm having to wait a bit for the truck I wanted (Red Sandstone), but that's ok. It's scheduled to arrive at the Waikem dealership in late February, to be shipped immediately after that. Marc's been very helpful and hasn't pushed anything; he said that I could pay the amount we agreed upon and wait for the Pilot, or I could go $200.00 higher and he'd swap with another dealer for a more expedited delivery. I opted to wait. I still have the options of adding "extras," which I might, and I have a couple weeks to decide.
I affirmed Marc's guess that I found his dealership through Edmunds; he mentioned that another customer from the DC area (meaning Atalay, although neither he nor I mentioned names) was also doing business with them. Sounded like someone else from Pennsylvania had contacted him as well, but we didn't get into that. I wouldn't be surprised if Marc's reading this forum, but either way it doesn't seem to have mattered. Thus far, Marc has conducted a professional and courteous deal.
You are totally wrong about ordering from out of state. Paying $2000 over MSRP in your area does not do anything good for the economy. You dealer won't sell a pilot at $800 over invoice because demand in your area is high. Translation, to a honda salesperson the regional economy is fantastic. People in your area are able to afford or willing to pay $2000 over MSRP, because the regional economy is fantastic to them too. So not buying from your area does no harm to anybody involved.
On the other hand, out of state dealers are willing to charge much lower than MSRP because they need to sell their cars. The low price indicates the demand is not strong enough to jack up the price in that area. Translation, the regional economy might be sluggish. So spending your money in that area helps their regional economy, helps everyone involved in the process. You save some money and are more likely to spend the savings on other stuff you've been longing for a long time. That is what I call helping the economy.
As to who is for real and who is not, making a phone call to the mentioned salespersons is the easiest way to figure out. No need for name calling here.
I have not paid for a pilot, so it is correct that i shouldn't use this forum to post. Yes, i am a salesman, but not trying to benefit. Nobody knows who i am. I hope everyone has a very positive experience and finds the best deals possible wherever they are! I intend for this to be my last post until i buy a pilot myself! Happy shopping everyone! Grammer

I really appreciate your factual posting about your purchasing experience with the relevant details included.
One question on the shipping details: Is the vehicle shipped to you COD so that you have the chance to refuse it if it shows up defective or damaged? How is this risk handled with your out of state deal.
I made a small deposit on the vehicle (again, similar to Atalay's deal), with the remainder of the payment due on delivery. The salesman (Marc) said that their business employs a delivery service, which is how Atalay and I are receiving our vehicles (Full disclosure: Atalay and I are complete strangers, so this isn't some sort of scam. Just so everyone knows.)
Obviously, I will insist upon the right of refusal if I note that the vehicle is defective, damaged, or has more than 50 miles on it. Marc said that the LX ordered for me will not have any mileage. If I run into some sort of problem next month/early March, I'll return to this forum and let everyone know. Hopefully Atalay will do the same. On the other hand, if everything continues to go smoothly, I'll still come back and tell everyone that the deal went through and continue to recommend Waikem Motors.
Dealer said that my Pilot-EX has a build date of 1/21-25. He estimates another 4 days to make it to the truck, and another 14 days to make it out of Canada and to the dealership. That would put us out until about the 10th of February. Anyone agree or disagree with the estimated time it will take to receive my Pilot? BTW paid $27,400+TTL for the EX-cloth.
It seems that the Pilot prices vary anywhere between MSRP and $1400 over invoice (depending on geographical area) and there is currently one (#447) in MI at $1,500 over invoice and with 4 days left to go. The cheapest Ody sold for $700 over invoice in (you guessed it) OH (auction # 335)
I hope that gives the forum some external validation for price information and reginal price disparities.
We bought ours from the internet salesperson at College Park Honda. The deal was $1,000 under MSRP, with mud flaps and wheel locks included. No game-playing or other fees. Very straightforward. Make sure you go through their website and e-mail them. Others on this board have done well with ordering from out of state and having their Pilot shipped to them. Scroll up several messages to read more about that. Good luck.
Just to set the record straight. I am a comparison shopper and I go where the best deal is. Yes it was nice that Jay Smith was a nice salesperson, but I knew what I wanted and I never pay retail for anything, so I wasn't about to pay MSRP or even close to that for my Pilot with DVD.Let's just say what I saved is paying for a nice ski vacation for my family of 4 to New Mexico this week in my new Honda.
Can you please post the name of the dealership where you bought your Pilot EX cloth. I would like to contact them to make the same deal - they deserve more business.
So far the two dealers I have tried in Marlton and Turnersville both want MSRP and I am not willing to give them over $4k for underproducing vehicles to keep up prices. Any suggestions of somewhere within a few hundred miles of the Philly area where I can get a more reasonable deal would be appreciated. Thanks!
try bianchi honda erie p.a. go drive there to pick it up. contact mike donnelly. ive been told they are selling 1000 over invoice.i would start at 900 over invoice tell him for that price you buy today. give a 500 refundable deposit. good luck
Picked up my Silver EXL yesterday from College Park Honda at $1,000 under MSRP w/free mud flaps and wheel locks. The dealership itself is not impressive but no games and delivered as promised. I made this deal 3 weeks ago with the Internet sales manager and not sure if they're still doing this as it seems demand has picked up again. It was worth it to me to pay the extra $800 or so vs. out of State delivery. They're just off of I-95 so they're very convenient to Balt and Philly. So far wife and I are very happy especially after so many repairs and issues with our '98 Exploder.
I live in the Greenville/Spartanburg area of SC, and am interested to see what others in this area have encountered when pricing the EX-L w/Ent system. I am willing to drive a decent distance (into NC or GA) for the best deal...
Try Honda Cars Of Monroe in North Carolina, you can find it on internet, call and talk to Internet Manager. I live in Charlotte and bought my Pilot there, $1.3K under MSRP and will pick it up sometime next week. I couldnot find this price anywhere in and around Charlotte area. Good luck.
I was wondering if any Twin Cities owners of the Pilot had a good experience purchasing their vehicle in person or over the net, and if they were able to get their vehicle for near/below MSRP? Or do I need to fly to the warmer climes of TX or OH to purchase the vehicle for a reasonable dealer profit. Currently 5 abv with a wc of -8. Thanks
If you have been shopping for a while (like me) you should have noticed the ads in the Louisville paper for $3000 off List Price in Southern Indiana and the $2500 off List Price at Bob Montgomery Dixie Honda. Of course both of these dealerships have items such as cross bars installed for $500 and rear mud guards added for $199 and over in Indiana they tack on $995 for paint protection. I used the internet to negotiate back and forth with Sam Swope to finally arrive at a $29,500 price OTD on an EX-cloth in the color I wanted. Be careful with Sam Swope because they have a documentation fee of $389 -- Highest in the area. They will make about $2000 on the deal after adding in their holdback. Also, an unknown is the volume discount they receive for selling as many cars as they do.
I'm looking to buy a Pilot EX-L w/DVD RES, Taffeta White color. Has anybody purchased a similiar model for $1000 or more under MSRP? If so, can you refer me to a similiar deal? Or if you seen any advertisement for such deal in the So. Cal., please email me at kippy95@yahoo.com. Thanks.
I know the destination charge is set and not negotiable.. but what about 'document' or 'documentation' fees that run into the hundreds of dollars? It seems like pure rip off for what really is just paper work. What did you pay and was anyone able negotiate this fee out of the deal? Thanks...
Doc fees are a way for a dealer to add more profit into the deal after the price is negotiated. They are very negotiable! A few years ago they game was "prep fees" now it is "doc". Some states have a limit (MD has a $25 limit) but most have no rules. I insisted on having one (it was only $50) removed from my bill. I heard a slew of excuses that a number of dealers gave me for what those fees cover. All of them are completely bogus; basically, they are all "cost of doing business"!
Negotiate the price before tax, tags and title and also get an "out-the-door" quote before you sign up for any deal. N.B. Some dealers charge different "state taxes" because their municipality (business) tax rates differ (and it is not based on your residence). You can shop that aspect too!
I checked Waikem Honda, Marc Doug is not available all the time. Then I called bianchi honda erie p.a.(brian125@#685 of 695). I started @800 over invioce and finally accepted 1000 over invoice. They are charging $85 for transportation assistance and docs. Final price is 28916.31+85=29001.31 with no free accessories. Mike Donnelly is nice but tough for additional discount. I put 500 deposit, which is refundable if you can find a better offer. I am in DC area, local best deal is 1000 under msrp from college park honda. I am generally happy with this price. I will go and drive it back. Thank you brian125!
Sorry to hear about your experience, however, I don't think any of us actually have pleasant experiences when it comes to buying a car. Whether it's 29,500 or 30,500 for the vehicle its still around 30k out of our pocket for something that in all essence merely gets us from point a to b.
My car buying experiences over the past few years has tought me a couple of things, never let the dealer know too much about you or your needs. All they need to know is that you are in the market and COULD be purchasing something (and not necessarily a Honda) soon. Your purchase horizon might be something that is based on the price that you are able to purchase their vehicle. At Swope, they currently were unable to sell you a car at your price. So, you should pat yourself on the back for doing the right thing and moving on.
Anyway, enough with the story telling, I'm glad to hear that you were able to purchase elsewhere at a price you are comfortable with.
After calling/emailing a bunch of dealerships near Charleston, I concluded that they're all selling for MSRP and won't negotiate below. They say they can get more and they have waiting lists.
So I've taken brian125's advice and have bought out of state-- Ohio has the best prices. (one dealer here mentioned Ohio too...) Read above prices/posts. We're going with Motorcars Honda in Cleveland Heights,OH. They give a good price (1250 over invoice) and excellent service; they have a large inventory too. No runaround. Good luck. Go north!
to all pilot buyers. make sure you let waikem honda or what ever dealer in ohio know that 800 over invoice will get your buiness. not 1000 or 1250 dollars over invoice let these dealers sleep on your offer for a week or 2.especially in ohio we are giving in to easy . make sure that the price they give you is there BEST OFFER. LET THEM KNOW THE OTHER DEALERS AROUND THEM ARE WILLING. TELL THEM YOUR WAITING FOR the first dealer to meet your price. its all a head game.i pulled a great deal out in ohio cause i had 6 dealers thinking the other dealer was going to lower their price to what i whated to pay. i see a steady trend for pilots going from 750 over invoice when i was buying to 900/ 1000 / 1250 still a great price. dont let these prices go back up by giving in so quick.waikem honda, hidy honda can be had for said price play the game. DONT BE FOOLED 750/800 is a great price and it still can be had. i dont want to hear about somebody's great service dept. i want the money in my pocket. good luck
hi yi i just read your post you got yourself one of the best deals in this forum . tell me that was not one of the easiest car deals you pulled off in along time happy piloting and stay out of that left lane on the turnpike when you see me comming brian
