Sorry to hear your story but dealer might be right and that is why there is lemon law. Check state lemon law to find out under which condition your Pilot would be considered as lemon and you can change for a new vehicle.

Sounds like dealer cash back is $1000 more than last month. So your quote of 27031 is good. I just bought an EX-L 4W in the LA area for 28680 Base (not counting fees, taxes, etc). So if one assumes the destinatin charge is around $550, then your quote is about $1000 less than what I got, probably due to the $2000 dealer back.

Yes.. I think you have a good quote.
  • wrogers2wrogers2 Member Posts: 3
BOTTOM LINE: Got it for $28680 base. Dealer fee $45 and $8.75 Tire fee for California. Added a towing package for $851 and a Honda Care Extended Warranty 8yr/120K $0 deductible $1400.
    Sierra Honda Monrovia, CA.

I Actually live in Palmdale, California but canvased the LA greater area with about 25 email requests for quotes. About 11 responded back. I started surveying this web site reviewing quotes and sales for about 3 weeks prior to my decision. This forum was indispensable for gaging what is a good offer.

Emailed my request for quotes on Sat 04/22 with an intent to purchase before end of month ($1000 dealer back might not last; turned out they increased it to $2000 after I purchased  ).

I was "pig headed" about sending out one email bcc: to each and decided to list all the Honda dealers within 100miles (Honda.com), but found that few if any listed an Internet sales email. So, I called each one, which was a hassle... but gave some interesting insights on the type of people one is dealing with.

Sierra Honda Monrovia, CA came back with my best quote within one hour (the one I ended up purchasing from on Mon 04/28). By Sunday I was ready to ask my local dealer in Palmdale to match the quote... which he did. One problem though... he could not find a vehicle and was unable to price the towing package. My deadline was his call back by noon Monday... which he did not make.

I was very happy with Sierra Honda. Low pressure salesman. No non-sense. They even agreed to install the towing package before I came down to pick it up! One glitch.. on arriving Fri 04/28 to consumate the sale, the car came loaded with $260 worth of: splash guards, wheel locks, rear mat. No problem... I said to the salesman... just remove them and honor the quoted price! Well.. I got the Pilot at the orignal quoted price WITH accessories!

Overall, this was a great experience. Highly recommend using this Forum for your homework.

30,045 for a top of the line AWD Pilot w/Navi is a great deal (anyone do better?) for Consumer reports shows the invoice of that vehicle to be $32,257 and holdback is $1,057 with bottom line of $31,200, Honda cash back is really helping.

Pilot doesn't come with both; either RES or Navigation. EX-L AWD w/ RES is $500 less. I got the Navigation one because of the cool voice command.

    charles20,

That sounds like a great price. I live in Northern Va also and am considering a 2WD, could you post the dealership that you bought from?

    Thanks in advance.

Where do you find out the dealer cash for the month and is it good manners to make this known when you are negotiating the price?

    Hello Forum

If one decide to buy his/her vehicle, in this case a Pilot, through an auto broker, are there any major draw backs?

Please share your thoughts and/or experience.

    Thank you in advance....

Hey I've been getting a price quote of $26,350.00 as of May 4,2006 which includes Destination Charge only. Disclaimer: I've been trying to trade in my 2005 Toyota Tacoma Pre-runner Double Cab. Hope this helps you folk out.

Sounds like a $2k dealer incentive eh?
  • saxe10595saxe10595 Member Posts: 35
Does this matter how one finds out about dealer cash ? In fact one of the dealer only told me about this. As far as good or bad manners are concern, I guess dealers are usually worse that customers- with my experience.

my local dealer (in atlanta) is quoting
    24595 + 550 (dest) + 487 (processing, ha!) + ttl

I know my dealer is beating carsdirect...but does anyone think I can do better ?

    Thanks!

    Bennfine,

Gwinnett Honda is offering the EX @ $23,990 + $550 + $399 Doc Fee + $28 Tag + $3 Lemon Law + TAX. This is the best price I have received.

just got a quote today from a dealer thru carsdirect.com. the price on carsdirect.com was around 30,500 with destination. when i submitted request for quote thru carsdirect, got quote for 29,210 for same car. what does everyone think?
  • bennfinebennfine Member Posts: 10
Have you bought a pilot at Gwinnett Honda ?

Yes I was emailed that quote. Another dealer said be wary of the "price does not include dealer add-ons.."

Called them up and asked for out the door price-"they said, well all our pilots come with cross bars, paint protection.....i.e. add $600 to the price."

I asked if they had anything without the add-ons then it got to be the usual salesmen games; "will you buy today ?", "what if my manager approved $25k plus tax" etc...

Don't want to step foot inside there unless I have a firm offer for purchase.

    Thansk!

I have not bought from Gwinnett Honda; however, they did give me the best quote which I forwarded to several dealerships. One dealership, Team Honda of Lithia Springs, responded to the email and told me that they would match and that would be the drive out price, with no add-ons. So you may want to try that approach, but get it in writing that the price they quote will be the final cost.

    Good Luck.
  • bennfinebennfine Member Posts: 10
Thanks for the info, but one item I can't tell from your message.

Did you end up buying from Team Honda or are you still getting quotes ?

    Thanks!

Thought I would share my buying experience with the group. Took delivery of a Sagebrush Pearl Pilot EX-L on Saturday in Birmingham. Total out-the-door was $26,763.62 + tax. I picked one off the back lot that had no dealer add-ons.

Negotiated the deal over the internet (requested quotes from all dealers within ~100miles) then confirmed price and color selection over the phone. Bonus was getting 5.6% financing from Honda for 60mo (I had 5.75% from my credit union).

Thanks to all on this board.

I was just quoted the following inclusive of destination (I'm in NY): 25,599, 25,724, 26,000.

The current dealer incentive (2K) is for an uncertain time period as I heard it is based on Pilot sales, not a set expiration date.
  • luvasuvluvasuv Member Posts: 14
hfzeus, Interested in knowing the dealers you got your quotes from. (I'm also looking in NY area.) All quotes include destination? Thanks for the post.
  • jimzopsjimzops Member Posts: 39
I'm wondering why these incentives especially when I read that 06 Pilot sales are at record levels well above 05 sales.
I'm also a little upset that I paid 32K for an EX-L with RES
in late 05. I wasn't able to get much better then...
Oh well, I guess you can never time the market. Kinda like stocks.
You buy one day and then it tumbles the very next day.

$30957 EXL w/nav and chrome side step, crossbars, wheel locks & labor)incl. dest. Sales tax not included. Is this good already.

Too bad you had to pay that doc fee. We don't have those at our dealership................... Congrats anyway. The pilot is a great buy.

Which dealership in Birmingham? Are you saying your 26,763.62 included tax?

    Thanks!
  • cowboy7cowboy7 Member Posts: 16
25K before TTL for an EX 2WD is the lowest I have seen on this web site recently. I have seen it range from 25K-26.4K. Edmunds web site indicates the manufacturer-to-dealer incentives goes up from 1,000 to 2,000 in May. But for most of the prices I have seen posted after May 1, it does not seem to have an observable drop in price.

Hi I am in the Phila area as well and looking for the best deal. I checked Langhorne, Phila, Willow Grove and so far Willow Grove seemed to have the best out the door price of 30008 online for the 2006EXL AWD (leather interior)Pilot. Did MainLine throw in any free accessories such as splash guards, etc for you? Also do they have package incentives such as first free oil change and unlimited inspection? Is you tax rate 6%? I am 7%. How did you negotiate with them, and did you like the service at MainLine? Thank you

April 30, bought Pilot EX-L with Navigation for 33K (plus taxes) from Honda of Kirkland.

Very unhappy with dealership. Car had 261 miles on it since owner likes to drive Pilots with navigation home to Federal Way! We thought we were buying a new car. This after the salesman told us (during the test drive) that the car should have arrived either the day before or the same day because navi was not set up.

Somewhere during the bargaining process, the dealer decided to take the cargo mat out from the car so that they could meet our price. This info was not clearly communicated to us. Cargo mats cost around $100. The dealer did make money in this deal. Bad attitude.

Had to wait for a couple of hours for finance folks since they were so busy. Interestingly, you have to buy water in that place.

We asked for lease information, but the salesman misunderstood our question and said that we need to talk to the finance guy. When we asked again a few hours later so that we could decide to buy/lease, they gave us crazy numbers. We decided to buy. They said that they would do the paperwork for a car trade for $400 and nothing less.

Our mistake was that we got taken in by the month end hoopla and after spending hours in that place, did not have the time to look around again. Big mistake. However, this is not a dealership you should trust. Must double check everything.

Salesman did not explain how the car worked or even get the navigation system working when handing off the car to us. We had to back and ask them to do it.

Finance guy was great, but overall experience was pathetic.

Rear mudguards was requested. They claimed to throw in first oil change for free & PA state inspection. Tax rate is 6% as I'm in the suburbs. Just make sure you do your research here and deal with them. In & out within 2 hours. So far so good.....
  • worcester1worcester1 Member Posts: 20
It was Tameron Honda in Hoover. The price was before tax, but included all other "fees".
  • pilotman3pilotman3 Member Posts: 5
Just received quotes from several Boston area dealers for purchasing a new 2006 Honda Pilot 4WD EX-L. Best is $27,751, destination charge included. Can I do better than this? Thanks for sharing your buying experience. I find this forum very helpful.
  • stew12stew12 Member Posts: 2
Is that a 2wd WITH LEATHER? Invoice for a 2wd EX-L is 29,202 or 27,202 after incentive, so if your's was 26,763.62 you got it at 500 less than that???? That just doesn't seem possible. If so you got an incredible deal.

I'm talking with Tameron now about a 2wd EXL and my all in - out the door is 28,935.

    Thanks!

Just go the following price quote, is it a good deal?

    2006 Honda Pilot EX/L w/ Navi 4WD is:

$31,290 plus your taxes, tags, and processing fee of $100.

This price includes your destination. This price does not include your accessory of the DVD system. That would be an additional charge.

Your purchase of the Pilot you will receive

Sounds a little high. Carsdirect gave $30,357, of cource, without the extras.
  • cliff1101cliff1101 Member Posts: 3
Carsdirect.com gave me 30,507 too on their website, when quote through the site was emailed to me by a participating dealer, got quoted 28,660 for 4WD EXL Nav. Ended up costing 300 more for dealer to locate color I wanted, but out the door for fees/taxes around 31,775 in NJ. Thought this was a fair deal, no other dealer could come close to matching.

    ;)
  • worcester1worcester1 Member Posts: 20
Yep, with leather. When I originally emailed them regarding a quote they came back saying they would beat my best price by $500. I emailed them the best quote I had in hand (from another B'ham dealer) and asked them to confirm they would beat that price by $500. When they agreed I came down to the dealership and picked out the Pilot I wanted from their lot.

There was initially an issue about whether or not their "beat by $500" included the Doc fee (the price I gave them to beat did), but I held firm and they conceded the point.

    Good luck!
  • roy2001roy2001 Member Posts: 62
This sounds like a terrible story. Seems you visit here often, why you go through that "deal"? You can get a brand new with a few miles for $3000 less and service should be much better than that? I just don't understand.

Even weeks after I bought my 2WD EX last 04/22 and having sent out email responses to remove me from mailing or calling list, dealerships are still giving out offers...Only notable though is San Leandro Honda's internet manager who left a message for $24Ksomething last week, i dont remember exact price because I just delete all messages regarding a Pilot purchase and never pay attention.
Knowing that San Leandro still offering me quotes for this month at $24Kplus(i think it was 24300 basing on last months 25300 when it was still $1K incentive), I wouldnt bother looking at buying a 2WD EX fabric for more than $24500 w/c includes destination.
oakley134 and bennfine getting 24Kplus offers in ATL area...
I dont know maybe its just stiff competition here in Bay Area???
  • bounesebounese Member Posts: 2
I went back to the dealer and got a better quote

    006 Honda Pilot EX/L 4WD w/Navi:

$30,600 plus your taxes, tags, and processing fee of $100
This price includes destination. This price does not includes your accessory of the DVD system. That would be an additional charge.

With your purchase you will receive

    Free 6yr/100k powertrain warranty or

Your First Year of Maintenance Free

    Free Car Washes for Life

Can you give me the name of the dealer that sold you the 2006 Honda pilot EXL with Nav for $28,660.That is an excellent price. Thanks
  • cliff1101cliff1101 Member Posts: 3
It is VIP Honda, North Plainfield, NJ. Not sure if it is only thru carsdirect.com. You may want to try getting quote thru carsdirect, use 07076 area code, that is my area code. Good luck, I know they are selling quite a few. Had to pay 300 on top of the 28,660 for them to locate the color I wanted. From the time I received quote and when I went there (2 days), they went from having 5 colors in stock to only 1 color in stock for EXL w/ Nav. Let us know how you make out. I will be picking mine up early next week, can't wait!

I worked out a deal for my mom for a 06 EX-L W\Navi 2wd for 28,350. They had to locate the car and brought it in with 225 miles on it. They also threw in the all season floor mats and wheel locks. She could have bought the 4wd for 29,500 but she does not drive in bad weather so the 4wd would be a waste. Not to mention the extra gas savings and better ride. I thought this price was ok. What do you guys think? Bought in N.C.
