Oops, it is a 2006 not 2005! Sorry :-) EX-L with Nav. I just got an internet quote from Planet Honda on Rt.22 for 28,300. Sounds too good to be true, so I emailed back asking what fees, tax, etc charges are. I will stop by as soon as I get more information from them.
28.3k sounds like it does not include destination charge (unless the email explicitly said that destination was included).
That was the biggest difference I have found with Internet quotes. No dealers included TTL fees (can't without knowing the final deal). Some included Destination and others did not. Second biggest difference was the dealer installed options. One dealer was kind enough to tell me ahead of time what was already installed, others, not so much.
The story I have heard is the 3 or so years ago, Honda Corporate decided to add a requirement to qualify for the above award. Dealers were given a target for dealer installed options on new car sales. To have the opportunity to earn the Award, dealers have to reach this minimum level, before they can even be considered. This is why most dealers have the "Pro" (Protection) Pack installed on every car and then usually at least one other accessory (tint, mudflaps, moonroof deflector, etc). Then they try to see more before you get out the door.
This makes perfect sense from a financial perspective (the accessories have around a 200% margin), but from a customer service perspective it can wear on a person. This is very reminiscent of the "Interior Scotchguard" protection that I used to "install" when I worked in Make Ready at a Chevy dealer in High School. I know that everyone here probably knows the punch line, but the "protection" came in the form of a $5 can of aerosol Scotchguard Fabric by the case from Wal-Mart. Not quite worth the $595 that people were charged!
Unless I'm mistaken, the best price that has been reported on here is $26,300 including destination for an AWD EX-L. So assuming $550 destination and no other dealer fees, this is a great price. I just paid $26,630 + TTL for one myself.
I got my deal at Curry Honda. Very easy and professional. They only had a few of the '06s left.
I love the black and so far so good. The stereo sounds so much better than my MB.
BTW- I just saw an ad on TV that one dealer in CT was giving a free Accord lease for 24 months if you buy a Pilot. The ad was pretty quick and I need to see again to see the fine print. Too good 2b true.
I have seen several favorable comments, but I just had an unpleasant buying experience with Sussman which seemed worth sharing. I agreed on price and terms for delivery of a 2006 Pilot EXL. The price was actually a couple hundred dollars more than nearby Conicelli. But the salesman at Sussman pointed out that if I went with them I’d be getting my Pilot “right off the truck” from the factory. Sounded great – I signed the sales order on July 30, gave them $500 deposit and they gave me a copy of the contract with the VIN of my new car. Delivery from the factory was to be between August 2 – 6.
The dealership didn’t call until August 9 and said my car had arrived but the VIN had changed. I asked how that was possible and was told they “accidentally” sold the car specified in my sales contract. The details of this “accident” were very dubious. I asked about the mileage on the “new” car they brought in. I almost fell off my chair when they said 97 miles. That’s a huge difference from the 2 or 3 miles expected on a car right from the factory. I expressed my displeasure with the situation, reminded them I was a repeat customer at the dealership and that I could get a lower price elsewhere on the same car and with far fewer miles. The dealership said they would make everything right. They called back with their offer – TWO FREE OIL CHANGES! You just can’t make this stuff up. They wasted two weeks of my time and that was their best offer.
I walked away from the deal and demanded my deposit back. One could guess they made a few extra dollars by “accidentally” selling the car I had under contract to a sucker they had on the lot when the car arrived. It’s just surprising that they would put so little value in a repeat customer or the dealership’s reputation. The worst part is that most dealerships unloaded their 2006 inventories in the time I was waiting for Sussman. So my selection is limited now, but I'm keeping my fingers crossed I can still find the car I want.
Sorry that you had a bad experience at the dealership! That seems so messed up. Did you bargain with them on internet before you walked in? I seemed to get a good deal online and settled my price online, then walked in and they had the car on the lot. I paid my deposit the day I signed the contract and next day paid in full. Have you tried Mainline Honda in Ardmore? I believe they were good with prices, as someone had mentioned in this forum. His price was 29,500 OTD with rear mud guards. Good luck!
Had a few bad experiences with other DFW dealers so we went to McKinney and picked up a 2006 AWD EXL RES + tint + pinstripe + protection package for $29,000 + TTL.
Until we got the quote from Reliance Honda, we were looking at $1,500 more. We would've gone to Reliance if this one fell through because we had such bad experiences with the dealers in the area.
For anyone else that is out there looking for a deal on a Honda Pilot in the Metroplex, there are two that I would recommend. One for agressive deals: David McDavid in Irving, the other for slightly less agressive deals and great, no-pressure service: Frank Kent Honda in Fort Worth.
Thanks for the well wishes and advice. I'll probably end up buying from Conicelli, but their selection isn't nearly as good as it was at the end of July. I actually didn't get an internet quote from Sussman. I already had a handful of internet quotes from other dealers and, with a million thanks to this forum, I knew what people were paying all across the country. So I had done all the leg work and got a good price (26.5k on exl 4wd), plus my wife had bought her last new car from them. We had a legit deal signed, but they just pulled the rug out from under me. In hindsight, I wonder if the good price worked against me. I mean, perhaps they had someone walk on the lot willing to pay substantially more than me the day my car was delivered? Whatever the case, it was really dirty. And it didn't help when the GM called me up to apologize and his story contradicted the salesman's. Oh well. I'm sure it will be a smooth transaction with Conicelli. Thanks again!
I recently purchased a 2006 Pilot 2WD EX-L in Northern California out the door at 28,200. The price before tax, license and fees was 25,800. The car is awesome. The 2WD is great, the fuel efficiency is a huge plus. If you have the choice, take the EX-L package because the leather and moonroof, not to mention the exterior, take the car to a whole other level. We love our new ride, great for our 2 kids. It feels safe, drives smooth, and looks cool. What more could you want? Oh yeah, how about $8000 off the sticker price! Sweet
The vehicles with NAV are diappearing quickly here. I dealt with the internet salesperson at Planet Honda yesterday, good experience, but the black had been sold, the blue left was the demo with 3600 miles on it (they would only go down an additional 800 for that(from 28,300),only had the white left. I gave it serious thought, but I prefer either the black or the blue. So back to Madison Honda (daughter patiently in tow) and they knocked off another $150 for the black they had gotten from another dealer for me. Paramus Honda couldn't do any better (their internet repsonds quickly). The steel blue is very nice...but do you think $800 off was enough off for the 3600 miles already on it, and being a demo car?
I'm ready to sell my 2002 MB C230 coupe (too low to ground, rear wheel drive in the snow, etc) and have been looking at the Pilot for while. The clearance prices on the Pilots are incredible and I don't want to miss out.
Are there any NY residents who bought from one of the mid-NJ dealers, e.g., Madison? How was the registration and plates handled? Did you have to register it yourself or did they do it? If you registered it, did they give you temporary plates to get home?
Has anyone got these deals and traded in their current car?
Has anyone sold their car to Carmax? Do they give you close to trade-in price or is it way lower?
Pilot depreciates 10k 1st year from msrp so 6k off this late in model year isn't giving them away. (Prices not so incredible). It is a good vehicle though.
Numerous individuals have traded in the deal. Yes. Whether you would be better off selling to carmax or such depends on how much you owe etc...

Hello again! I actually emailed someone from Conicelli today to get a price on a 4WD Ex but NOT in leather and she gave me the OTD of 27974.18. Includes new tags and fees and tax. WIth the 3000 incentive to dealer, does that sound like a rip off? I bought a Pilot already but now my friend wants me to ask around. Please let me know how your experience went with Conicelli! I am looking forward to hear your good experience, and again, good luck! Please keep me updated!
OK, just went through the protectionist Honda process for a 2004 Pilot, and had the same outcome... no US drivers license, registration, insurance - no recall clearance letter.
Not sure if this works for new vehicles, but works for used and is acceptable to the registrar of imported vehicles, but I suggest you call them for your own piece of mind.
Go to www.honda.com and go to Ownerlink. Sign up for an Ownerlink account with the VIN number of the vehicle you are purchasing (must match the VIN of the vehicle you import exactly). Print out the My Pilot page that shows the VIN and other details of the vehicle and also print out the recall page that should say "There are no current safety recalls on your (model year) Honda Pilot".
Provide these pages to the Canadian Tire along with your Form 1 and the registrar of imported vehicles will treat the package as though yopu had a letter from Honda.
Hope this help everyone... and hope it is the start of Honda realizing that we are all smarter consumers than they think!
I would target $6,000 off MSRP. That is approximately their first offer to me.
With an MSRP of 31,340 (including destination), I would target around 25,300 as a starting point.
You will need to account for dealer adds (I would negotiate these to as close to 0 as possible), tax, title and license fees. If you have those items in hand, you should be able to get pretty close to an OTD price.
In my negotiations, I have found that most dealers should be able to break even at $7k below sticker, but many are not willing. There are a lot of factors. Good luck to your friend.
Wow 7K below MSRP seems like alot..THe MSRP from Edmunds was actually 30745 and the invoice was 27664, so I subtracted the 3000 dealer incentive off, which is 24664. I know some dealers are not willing to take the full 3000. Does my price of 24664 seem reasonable? Of course I have to add tax, title, license fees on top of that. So now I subtract 30745-24664=6081, which is about 6K, off sticker. How does that sound? Thanks for your advice! Also if I have a trade-in, when is the most appropriate time to bring that up? I would think after we finalize the price of this vehicle..
That seems like a reasonable place to start. With the 2007 models coming off the trucks, most dealers will be very interested in dealing. Since they do not know whether the $3,000 cash from Honda will be there next month, they will be looking to move the 06 models this week and next.
I would not bring up the trade until you have finalized the price on the new vehicle. You may also want to swing by Carmax to get a quote so you have some idea what the wholesale market is for your vehicle. Many people have opinions about Carmax and their offers, but one thing you cannot argue with is that they will give you a binding offer with no strings attached. I would not bring up the Carmax offer until after the dealer makes an offer. The benefit of trading in (at least in Texas) is that you save some on the sales tax, but that is usually not a very big number (just multiple the trade value by the tax rate).
I just bought a Pilot EX (no leather) from Madison Honda in Madison NJ. We paid $24,416 on an MSRP incl. destination of $31,295. Here's what we did: go to openroadhonda.com and get their internet quote (you don't even have to deal with a salesman). Then use that to negotiate. It was pretty easy. The quote, w/o dest. was $23,864. Good luck.
Hello Parsonadamsap, Where is this dealership, as this price is amazing? If you could let me know about the dealership, I will appreciate it. I am in redding california, and they are offering it for $3,000 above your price.
Thank you so much for your experience! Your price of 24,416 seems excellent! Conicelli gave me the price of 25,989 for the no leather Pilot EX. It was so high in my opinion that I had to ask her whether that was leather or no leather, and it was no leather. Did you notice whether Madison Honda had alot of 2006's left in their lot? Thank you so much. Oh, what was your OTD, if you don't mind me asking?
Hi,As a new member I am amazed by the great posts here, I realised my mistakes during my last car buy few years ago which also was my first New car and do not want to repeat it. I live in Long Island NY, and have got Quotes from Open Roads Honda and from Paramus Honda, both in NJ. Both are for 28,800 and 28660 resp. (Without Destination Charge), the OTD price with TTL&Regn, Documentation Fees, Sales Tax would be about 31,000 odd. The local Dealers are ready to match price but are shying away from given an internet Quote. Hence I would like to know if this is a good price or anyone here has a better price for the exact same model.
Another good place in SoCal is Spirit Honda. I just helped my dad get a 2WD Pilot EX-L with Navi for low 27's. The internet/fleet manager (who's been there for about 6 years)-- he's a very straighforward guy.
I had purchased my 2006 Odyssey at Sierra Honda but the salesperson said that their manager had decided to not to go too low because supplies of the Pilots were constrained, that's why I ended up with Spirit Honda.
Seriously, why do people think it makes any difference when they mention they have a trade? Your trade is worth what your trade is worth no matter what. Actually, it is losing value every minute that you wait! You know what you should be paying for the new vehicle, so why play games with the salesperson about having a trade? This is the hardest part of the sales process for people to understand. Go ahead and mention it so that it can be appraised. This will speed up the process for everyone. The salesperson is already only going to get paid about $100 for the deal anyway, so he will be happy to get the deal done as fast as you want the deal done.
I skimmed a few pages but if any of the regulars could tell me if there is an active Factory to Dealer incentive going for the Pilot, that would be great. i've seen the financing deals, and the internet quotes I've got for the EX-L 4WD were a bit under $28,000 +TTL. And finally, I live in westchester, north of NYC and I was wondering if there were any extra registration fees. I see that the 2 year registration is 62.50, the county vehicle tax fee is 60 (2 years) plus 15 for plates and 50 for title certificate getting me to 197.50. Thanks in advance for any help.
Just got back from Southeastern Honda after a 40 minute paperwork session. That's how long it took to buy the car. Of course, I have been e-mailing to different dealers in the Central Florida area for the past 2 weeks. The price was 21,850 ( including destination charge and dealer fee of 395) + tax and tag transferr fee. The dealer seemed happy, I am happy, so that's good. They sure don't advertise the $ 3000 though, but if you ask, and depending how many 2006 they have, they'll give it to you. Of course, I also got the 4.9% APR for 60 mo. No packages, no extended warranty, no undercoating, no scotch-guard. The finance guy tried it...a feeble atempt at best, but not pushy.
Just bought the 2006 Pilot EX-L with RES 4WD in Atlanta. Base was $28,000 (including destination), $898 for accessories (chrome side steps & splash guards) along with a non-negotiable doc fee of $499 (plus tax and title).
Hi Zack, Are the quotes for EXL 4WD with Navigation or w/o Navigation system. I live in Long Island,NY and so far have been able to get the quotes below 28660 and 28800(w/o Destination fees & Taxes) from 2 NJ dealers. Local Long island dealers are ready to match up but the quote I got after great deal of persuation is 31,000-32,000 OTD. Hence wondering if you could share which dealers gave you the quotes or if you had any tips.
And keep in mind, there is a $3000 incentive to dealer. Is there something wrong with the picture here? How come the prices still seem so high? Is it because they are being bought very quickly and all the dealerships don't feel a need to lower their prices further? Please help! How do I go about negotiating for lowest price?
Ralph, I've been getting quotes for 4WD EXL straight up, no NAV, no RES. carsdirect.com has a 27,935 quote you can see without even having to sign up there and I got 27,888 from Rushmore Honda in Tarrytown, NY which was the best I got in email. I haven't heard back from a few as I did a lot of this last night. I'd love to get OTD at 29,000 but not sure if the inventory remaining supports this. Hope this helps.
I'm not a car buying expert or anything but that Open Road quote looks excellent. Its 3800 under invoice which after the 3k rebate and 3% of MSRP holdback (922.35) looks like you're leaving him about no profit. He may have gotten it a bit cheaper than invoice and there may be fees tacked on but if you get them down, the Open Road quotes looks like a good deal. If I'm missing something let me know.
Hi, I live in Long Island NY and so far have got prices in the same range as yours hence I am not sure if its a good deal or not but would like for you to let me know if you have received any quotes lower than that. Thanks Ralph
Take a drive across the Tappan Zee and go to Nanuet Honda. They are selling the Pilots at 3000 minus invoice. Of course you have to go through their Internet dept to get this price.
Hi. Is $30,399 OTD a good price for Honda Pilot 06 AWD EXL, dealer in NJ but I live in Long island NY, price includes TTL,MV FEES and NY Sales Tax to the base price get me this number. Also Conicelli Quoted $29257 includes Tax and Tags but this is for PA not sure for NY. Anyone got a better deal than this. I am trying to get local dealers to match up this price.
ralph, i too live on long island and i got huntington honda to match staten island honda for an 06 awd exl-res for 28,300, including destination. they killed me on the trade in for my van, so i walked out. hope this helps.
I am going to buy a LX4WD or EX4WD in MA or RI. Can you please share your experience regarding best price? Is there any dealer fee in the above mentioned states? What's it for? Isn't it a kind of hidden price? Thanks a lot
Excellent deals are running from 6500 to 7500 off MSRP (high end models)

Those quotes look reasonable. Make sure all of them include destination charges. If they do, the differences probably have something to do with inventory. You can go to the Honda website and link to the dealer to check relatively current inventories. You may want to follow up with the dealer closest to your friend and ask them to match the Open Road offer, if they will, there is probably profit in there somewhere. You are getting to the end of the month, so dealer stock is going to get thin, even if Honda carries over the promotion into September, there may not be much to choose from .
Just curious if honda has any financial deals as acura's 2.9% APR for 3 years. Also, anyone know what's the major difference between MDX and Pilot EXL, saw a post in Acura thread which questions if the $7000 difference between pilot and MDX are really worth it!

For 2WD EXL w/ RES price was quoted as $26,100 + $550 Destination. 4WD EXL w/ RES was that plus $1,330. I went with the latter.
Dealer is Ed Voyles in Atlanta. A few hiccups but overall they gave very good service and delivered on the vehicle and price.

I asked around for a quote for my friend for the CLOTH interior 4WD EX 2006 Honda Pilot and here it goes:
Edmunds MSRP: 30,745 Invoice 27,664
Sloane Honda (Bustleton) 24,970
Conicelli (Conshohocken) 25,989
Piazza (Langhorne) 26,213
Open Road (Madison, NJ) 23,864
And keep in mind, there is a $3000 incentive to dealer. Is there something wrong with the picture here? How come the prices still seem so high? Is it because they are being bought very quickly and all the dealerships don't feel a need to lower their prices further? Please help! How do I go about negotiating for lowest price?
I've been getting quotes for 4WD EXL straight up, no NAV, no RES. carsdirect.com has a 27,935 quote you can see without even having to sign up there and I got 27,888 from Rushmore Honda in Tarrytown, NY which was the best I got in email. I haven't heard back from a few as I did a lot of this last night. I'd love to get OTD at 29,000 but not sure if the inventory remaining supports this. Hope this helps.

Thanks,

I live in Long Island NY and so far have got prices in the same range as yours hence I am not sure if its a good deal or not but would like for you to let me know if you have received any quotes lower than that.
Thanks
Ralph
Take a drive across the Tappan Zee and go to Nanuet Honda. They are selling the Pilots at 3000 minus invoice. Of course you have to go through their Internet dept to get this price.
Thanks
Ralph

Isn't it a kind of hidden price?
am going to buy a LX4WD or EX4WD in MA or RI. Can you please share your experience regarding best price? Is there any dealer fee in the above mentioned states? What's it for? Isn't it a kind of hidden price?
Thanks a lot
Also, anyone know what's the major difference between MDX and Pilot EXL, saw a post in Acura thread which questions if the $7000 difference between pilot and MDX are really worth it!
