From reading this forum the best I had seen for an EXL AWD was 26.3 (including the destination), I added 300 to that and set my target at 26.6.
We live in suburban Indianapolis IN and took my wife to a dealer for a test drive (the vehicle is for her so she needed to see/drive what I had researched) The best offer I could get from the dealer was 27.8. I told him my 26.6 target and he said he could get there.
I e-mailed 4 other dealers in the Indy/Kokomo area and they came back between 27.3 and 28.0. I e-mailed again and got down one of them to 26.9, e-mailed this dealer a 3rd time telling him I need him at 26.6, he e-mailed me back painfully accepting the 26.6.
After we agreed on the price I did ask what the cost would be for the trailer package, which I needed but wanted to keep out of the initial negotiation. I accepted a price of 875 for the hitch, I had seen it as high as 1200.
We picked up the AWD EXL today (love the black with tan leather). We put 6K down and financed the balance at 4.6% for 60 months.
One more thing, and I must admit I did not research the extended warranty properly so I may have been taken. The standard warranty is 3 yrs /36 k miles for the whole vehicle and 6/60 for the powertrain, the extended warranty gets the entire vehicle to 6/60 plus some other benefits that I won’t get into. He (the finance guy) started at over 1200 and I accepted the warranty when he got down to 597.
The dealer I purchased from was Kokomo Auto World in Kokomo IN. Dealing with them was great, no tricks, pleasant people and absolutely no pressure.
That is a great deal. What is the name of the dealership you bought the Pilot from?
2006 EX-L AWD with Navi, Silver ext / Grey int
Price: $28,258 including destination, wheel locks and splash guards
Tax at 7.75%: $2,193.48
Doc Fee: $45
CA License: $248
CA Tire Fee: $8.75
Total out the door: $30,753.23
Purchased at Norm Reeves Honda in Temecula, CA. Best car-buying experience I've ever had.
Salesperson said that they were having a program for selling the Pilots. For every Pilot sold, they would get a certain amount of money--first $100, then $200, etc. You may be able to work this into your deal.
Also (this may already be known), the Honda survey after the purchase is very important to some of the high-volume salespeople. It helps them get special perks at the end of the year (i.e., trip to Hawaii).
John
Thanks for the offer on checking out the vehicle for me. I might take you up on that but will have to talk to my wife first. We live in Abilene and she may want to go out there herself.
I did what you told me and checked Conicelli/Hendrick:
- Hendrick quoted me $29,182 + TTL and $399 processing fee
- Conicelli $28,718 + TTL they haven't gotten back to me on other fees.
They are within $70 of the the offer from John Eagle.
I sent the previous quote I mentioned earlier to McDavid and I guess they were not willing to meet it because I have not heard from them since.
The best quote I got so far is from John Eagle Honda. Do you know anything about them? That is for $29.3 and includes the protection/tint package. I'm trying to negotiatie on the package.
So you have a deposit someplace? How does that work? What if the deal falls through, do you lose your money?
Thanks.
Thanks,
kyfdx

If mine, I basically emailed all the dealers I could find in SoCal and shopped the best deal. Two dealers could both meet the price, but Norm Reeves Honda just happened to be closer. On top of that, I was in/out in less than an hour (including the test drive, 4.9% finance application and dealer prep). All in all, a very good experience.
John
Still, no dealer is going to sell a Pilot and lose money!
I don't know anything about John Eagle. 29.3 seems a little high.
The RES package should be cheaper than NAV. Frank Kent should be able to beat that price.
The deposit is just a check, or credit card payment that ensures the dealer will not sell the car. The vehicle we are wanting to buy has not been delivered yet, but it shows as "sold" in the system so long as they have our deposit. If we decide not to buy, they just tear up the check.
Let me know if there is anything I can do to help you out.

I agree about So. Cal. though. Couldn't get out fast enough!
It was not easy, had to haggle for almost 3 hours to get this price. Here is the breakdown.
final price 26,150.00
tax 641.84
Doc/Title fee 199.00
Extended warranty 619.20
Registration fee 57.50
NJ tire fee 7.50
Total out the door
price 27,675.04
Had to haggle on my trade in also, that's why the tax is so low. I'm not a big fan of extended warranty, but for 641 I got coverage for 5 yrs/60k miles 0 deductible. Not bad for an additional 2 years of coverage because that what you are really buying on top of the already manufacturers warranty of 3 ys/36k miles. I plan to keep this car for at least 5 yrs so 641 for 2 additional yrs of peace of mind is not bad.
It didn't hurt either that I was willing to take what was left in stock and it was the last week of the month. Also 2007 are coming next month so that was good too.
So if you want to get in on a good price on a 2006, do it before the end of this month and be willing to haggle and walk out if you don't get what you want.
Good luck

of knowledge but need a bit more! I have put a deposit down on a 2006 AWD EXL/RES and will not finalize the deal until 4 SEP.
I'm interested in having an extended warranty and saw that some folks haggled on the price? What are some prices that were paid and how do I bargain the price down? It isn't as if I can go out and get quotes on extended warranties like I can for a Pilot...can I? :confuse:
Thanks in advance,
Katie
My final price was $28,849 for the '06 black AWd w/NAV, and they threw in wheel locks and etching. This did not include tax, MV, doc fees, NJ tire fees. Did not get the extended warranty or the GAP insurance, financed for 5 years at 4.9. No pre-payment penalty on the Honda if I want to pay it off faster. $31.465 totol, first payment in October.
NOte: if I had put a deposit down before the NJ tax increase, i could have gotten it for 6% instead of 7...but wasn't near to a purchase at that point, and who knows what price I would have been quoted in July.
$26,450 for the vehicle - no options
$1,322.50 MA state tax
$36 plate and registration fee
$50 MA title
$289 document preparation (who knows what this is for)
$28,147.50 Total
In general skip the ext warranty.
In this case for Honda's Sacucci seems to be rock bottom. For those who bot the HondaCare warranty it is cancellable so cancel it or go beat your dealer over the head for the difference.
If you must purchase do it on internet from saccucci.
Some of you may have paid $600 or more over internet prices (I know, I used to sell this stuff)

Actually, Honda doesn't tell us but I suspect they will hold it through Labor Day. I wouldn't risk taking the chance.
I suspect it will end at that point since we are almost out of cars.
I suppose, if someone ground the store down to the last nickle they might feel justified in adding some dollars to the price to pay the person who has to get the car.
Our dealer trade guys don't work for nothing!
Anything above $50 seems excessive.
John
The vehicle we have a deposit on has yet to arrive. It is on the delivery list.
I will ask my salesman tomorrow at Frank Kent about an AWD w/ RES. Do you have a particular color you are looking for? He will probably be willing to check around and let me know. That way you aren't on the hook.
Final price was $28000+TTL. They said they were -$137 on the deal with my trade (a 99 ML320 w/101k miles).
I feel like I got a good deal and they were really great there. I'd definitely recommend them, even though the original price they came to me with was $3k over sticker (38,300)!!
Luckily I'd done my homework and had them down to $28,400 literally within 15 mins then walked out. Returned the next day with my trade which they knew nothing about.
Anyway, left with the price of $28k. 15miles on the car. Very excited. Love the backup camera!
cheers all and good luck. believe me they WANT to get these cars off their lots.

Don't worry, it took me a while to figure that out in the beginning, too!
I sent emails from the edmunds.com weblink to about 20 Bay Area Dealers. After two days of back and forth, I ended up getting the San Francisco Honda dealer to beat my best price. I got it for $26,100 + Tax and License and they also threw in some free add-ons.
I sent my husband after work on the bus to sign the paperwork and he was in and out in about 90 minutes. He said that everyone was friendly and helpful. He went in, confirmed the price that I had negotiated, signed the paperwork, waited for the car to finish with the add ons, and was on his way home
I just wanted to post the other Bay Area dealers that were willing to compete and seemed the most responsive -
1) Hansel Honda in Petaluma
2) Serramonte Honda
3) San Leandro Honda
Thanks again everyone.
Happy Shopping,

The only preference I have on the color is that it is not desert rock. Billet silver would be good since there seems to be more of that than any other color in the area. Thanks.
Today we are picking up our 2006 model EX-L in Red Rock Pearl with Saddle leather interior with 12 miles on it. We simply used the advise and information on this site, worked with ISM's at several area dealerships over the phone or by e-mail, and got the deal we wanted.
Since I knew exactly what we wanted and how much we wanted to pay, there was very little pressure involved in the process.
Details are as follows:
MSRP: $31,845
Destination Fee: $550
Total "Sticker" Price: $32,395
Price Negotiated for Vehicle: $25,311
Dealer Fee: $499
Total for Vehicle: $25,810 + tax and tag = $27,483 OTD
We received six (6) "rock bottom" quotes from ISM's in the area ranging from $25,311 with $499 dealer fee up to $26,500 with $699 dealer fee. Even among the different ISM's, there was a gap of $1,400 from lowest to highest!
Thanks again for all the help!
It's me again! I got a final quote from Sussman at Willow Grove for the 2006 Honda Pilot AWD EX (Cloth) and his price is 24,586 including destination, and tax of 1721.02, and registration fee of 158, OTD=26465.02. I mentioned Open Road Honda in Edison's quote to him and he won't lower the price because there are extra documentation fees that the dealership tacks on and he is aware that many of his customers go there and return to his dealership because Willow Grove is cheaper.
1)What can I use to negotiate for an even lower price? (He has only Green in stock but we wanted Silver; is that a basis for negotiating lower price?)Any advice on good tactics?
2) I have a trade-in and what is proper etiquette to tell him? Or not mention until my friend goes to the dealership?
This internet salesman seems pretty cut and dry, straightforward. He does not seem to play games...I guess it's either buy or not buy. THanks guys. As you can see I am no expert even though I bought from him before. He knows I am very shy...
Vandergriff in Arlington has an AWD EX-L with RES (not sure on the color)
McDavid of Irving has both an AWD and a 2WD EX-L w/ RES in Billet Silver. I will email the ISM and ask him about them.
Waiting on a call back from Frank Kent.
I spoke with two of the dealers here and town and they are both sold out of RES units. Frank Kent still has a few EX-L models in 2 and 4WD, but no more RES.
If you are set on getting RES, it looks like you may have to go with the deal you have already referenced. If you are willing to drop the RES requirement, you may be able to get a better deal in Fort Worth.
Not sure about the stock at other dealerships. Email me directly if there is anything I can do to help you out.
for the 06 ody, i told the finance manager (Sierra Honda) i was going to buy it anyways but if she sold it to me for cost +20, then i'd get it from her. which then, she did. the salespeople cannot determine pricing, the finance manager does. i had pre-negotiated the sales price of the odyssey, but the salesperson (before i met the finance manager) told me that the best they'd do was 100 over cost.
then, 2 weeks later, for the pilot (which i helped my father get at Spirit Honda- where i got the best price), i basically told the finance guy that i wanted it for cost (8yr/120mi 0 deduct= 1220). he said that he had to charge at least 1 dollar more because of accounting reasons so we got it.
it helped that since i had a relationship with the finance manager at Sierra Honda and i asked her if she'd sell me the HondaCare for my father's Pilot, she said that she'd do that at cost (so I had that as a back-up plan).
basically if you know your prices and also have a back-up plan, then you can walk into the finance manager's office and say, I want HondaCare for so and so price. regardless of selling at cost, the dealership still makes money. also be warned that some dealerships don't like to offer HondaCare and want to sell you their own brand of warranty that may include things like oil changes. if they are a honda dealer, they are obligated to sell HondaCare to you if you ask for it.
For me Lynnwood (which is where I bought the trade-in Civic from) didn't want to match the deal I got from Seattle.
Bellevue is a joke, was informed that they would match Seattle's offer and add a few accessories to clinch the deal. I had the trade in offer in writing from Seattle and Bellevue said they would match that, but wanted to see the proof and the car. So off I go to get a better deal, of course it never happened as they wouldn't then match the trade in offer. Completly wasted my time. Thats the third time I have been down to Bellevue to buy cars and the third time I have been disappointed. All he could tell me was 'Bellevue are the biggest seller of Honda cars in the State' ..... I don't see how?
Wow .... what an essay!!!
Btw .... very happy with the Pilot!
You are correct that you have to walk in with prices in order to negotiate.
I happened to find the Extended Warranties forum which had a ton of information. I had no idea that I would be able to purchase extended warranties from other dealerships at significant discounts than what the finance manager is going to offer...we won't be picking up our Pilot until next Monday.
I have learned a lot and will NEVER buy another car or accessories without checking out these forums. It is truly a buyer beware world out there and I feel better prepared to close the deal.
Thanks again!
I got an OTD of 26465.02 for the 2006 Pilot EX AWD from the dealer online at Sussman in WIllow Grove where I bought from before. Today I tried to get the price down even further because my friend wanted Silver and not Green, the only color they have in stock. All of a sudden the dealer said that his best price BEFORE tax and tags is 26,585....WHAT???!! That's even MORE expensive than the earlier OTD! I did not know they could do that. Is that a jerk or what?
You can have your salesperson "prep" the finance manager that you're all set to buy HondaCare for a certain price. They'll convey to you that they probably won't do it, but when you go into the finance manager's office to sign papers, just say, "I'd like to buy it from you for $xxxx-- I know I can get it for xxxx and your cost is xxxx. You can either make your profit now, or I can buy it from another Honda dealer. The choice is up to you." Of course, say it with grace and kindness. It'll really depend on their mood, how many their quota may be (I don't know if there really is one), and if they like you.
Oh, regarding accessories... most of the Honda places will charge you their "cost" but I've found out that one place's cost may be higher than another, for ex: we added rear mudflaps and chrome side steps to my dad's silver EX-L with navi-- the breakdown (with install): mudflaps $61, side-steps $581. I had called another Honda dealer in trying to work out another deal but even though their car price was about 180 lower, their add-ons (quoted as their "cost price" was about 200 more).
Yeah, these forums were essential in getting the best information and prices for our recent purchases. A general thanks to all who posted!
