Can someone else comment on it? Any other buyer had any experience of paying by a check? What are the risks?
  • laiwlaiw Member Posts: 9
Can you tell me your dealer's name? I went there two days ago. The same model they are asking for $26,500+TTL. Thank you.

I bought an 06 Pilot EX-L w/Navigation last week in Scottsdale, AZ for $27,800. I was amazed at the clearance prices. They had only 6 EX-L navi's left in Arizona, and I wound up having the dealer do a trader with another dealer to get the Pilot in the color I wanted.

The Pilot I got came with mud guards, wheel locks, and tinting. I was not charged additional money for these add ons because the price was agreed upon already.

    Purchased in MA:

MSRP: $35,845 - EXL w/ NAV (Billet Silver)
    First offer: $29,900
    Final offer: $29,200

Traded: 1997 Civic DX, $130,000 miles
    First offer: $1,000
    Final offer: $1,500

    Total w/ trade: $27,700

    Tax: $1,390
    Title/Reg/Doc prep: $300 (not positive)

Thoughts? What is the consensus that should be paid for this model w/ options?

I love this SUV and all the toys that came with it!

    Why ask?

    You already did the deal.

Some spoil sport will no doubt come along and rain on your parade by telling you you paid too much!

Happens in these forums all of the time.
  • mattchalmersmattchalmers Member Posts: 159
That is a great deal on the Pilot. I am not sure on the trade because I really don't have a frame of reference on that Civic. The Tax is the tax, and the Title, doc prep stuff looks reasonable.

Obviously if you are happy, then you should be fine, but in my experience purchasing, and on this forum, you did great. You paid $253 less than I did for my 4WD EX-L w/ Navi (same color too). Only other difference was that we purchased a 5 year, 100,000 mile, 0 deductible Hondacare warranty with it for $750.

It is by far the best car I have owned, even though it has only been 3 days!

    Happy motoring. :shades:

Not on this forum isell. We are all here to help each other get the best deal possible.

Most important thing is that people feel they got a fair deal. In the end, my wife and I paid about $500 more than we had to because we were more comfortable with Frank Kent Honda in Fort Worth. It is not always about getting the cheapest deal possible, there are intangibles, at least for me.

    Hi All,

I am planning to buy a Pilot EXL with Navigation system or DVD in DC metro area. Is anyone has any good experience to share? Just like to know what is the best price paid for this car? Please also include the options that were thrown in.

I want to make the deal today or tomorrow.

    thanks/regards

I went to two dealerships to buy a Pilot a week ago and I ended up buying from Ourisman Honda in Bethesda, MD. The salesman I had was straightforward, polite and made the process of buying a car incredibly plesant. I got the EX-L NAV for $1500 under invoice. And they had the lowest finance rate from a dealership I could find 1.9 Everyone there was respectful and helpful. I recomend going there.

    Folks,

The deals on the 2006 models are insane. I just bought a silver EXL w/ NAV for 26,600. Note that this was a 2WD purchased in New England (we are driving it across the country and will live in CA -- so AWD doesn't matter). The 2WD has the engine management system to shut down the cylinders and cost about 1K less than 4WD.

The best mileage I have gotten is 22.5 but the engine is still brand new and we are driving 75MPH.

Best I can tell this was about 8K off of sticker and 700 under dealer cost after rebates and holdback.

We love it and have been spending 8-12 hours a day in it with our two dogs as we drive across the country.

We bought from Bernardi in Framingham MA. None of the other dealers had any NAV units left. We were prepared to spend up to 33K on a 2003 or newer MDX, but the used car manager was really honest and said that they would cut us a great deal on a Pilot and it was a newer design. I got quotes from all the dealers and haggled with them all.

Best of luck to all you. This is a great vehicle.

    Folks,

I should also add -- we paid an additional 5% sales tax and rejected all the extras. The extended warranty should not be needed on a Toyota or Honda. The finance guy seemed a little pissed off about this, but he'll get over it. We paid with a cashiers check.

Folks are buying 2WD Pilot EXL with Navi for 26,100 [inc. dest fee]. Someone posted a price of 2WD Pilot EXL for 24,600 [I bought mine 600 dollars higher]. Some of these prices are $4000 below invoice+dest. How is it possible? How do the dealers make money? Why would they give away $4000+destination fee? They need to make some money to run the business? Any idea? There must be other ways for the dealers to make money.
  • bdguybdguy Member Posts: 5
Just out of curiosity.. why did you pay by cashier check? Is there any risk in paying by check?

Thanks for sharing your purchase info

I talked to Frank Kent. They only had couple of 06 EX 4WD in stock. The quote they gave is $25200+TTL. I think it is pretty good price, but the color they have I really didn't like it. Huggins and Vandergriff are the other two who still have stock but their price is $2000 higher. Does anyone know other dealerships within couple hours driving from DFW still have 06 pilot (LX or EX model) available and have fair price?
  • piloteerpiloteer Member Posts: 20
I guess it all comes down to timing, supply and demand. I just bought a 2wd exl w/res for 26,150 including dest. (no option included for that price) I felt this was an exceptional deal. It also boils down to flexibility. The last 2wd they had was silver, not my first choice of color. But if you are flexible you can get a better deal. Dealer was anxious to get rid of his 2006 inventory. I found buying in the last week of Aug. is the best time to deal. New models are coming in Sept. and the last week of the month is a good time to negotiating.

Anyway, don't worry about the dealers making money. They do just fine, when they are not selling cars at a huge discount most of the time.
  • mattchalmersmattchalmers Member Posts: 159
You might try the Houston or Austin dealers. Clock is ticking though.
  • crunchmjbcrunchmjb Member Posts: 1
Just got a 2006 4WD Pilot EXL RES for 28,300 (including dest) from Majestic Honda in RI. Was 3K off invoice. Didn't want the RES ( very few left around without, this dealer had none) but the price was right.

FYI: The 2006 and 2007 seem to be identical, the 2007 glossy brochure has the exact photos as the 2006, the only difference I found was the color chart in the back.

What dealership did you deal with to get your pilot EXL 2wd for $25,200?
  • myranassermyranasser Member Posts: 15
2006 exl $26,650 (incld. distination) No DVD or Nav.
    Extended warranty $1200.
  • stopbystopby Member Posts: 2
I contacted dealers from Austin, Houston, and San Antonio before I tried with Frank Kent. Most of them are out of inventory and asked me to put $500 deposite and waiting them to looking for a Pilot for me. CleoBay and Howdy Honda did have 1 or 2 pilot EXL available, but they quoted me 2000+ more than what other folks (in this forum) paid for. That's why I went to Frank Kent.

The deal is over soon. you won't have much choice on color option anywhere. If I were you, I would simply pick the one I donot dislike the most.
  • mropportunitymropportunity Member Posts: 11
As the messages have been running about -$3000 off of invoice can be gotten which is what we paid.

Does anyone know if there a time limit to buy the extended warranty from date of purchase? From this forum apparently there are better deals by direct email contact in mid-West,
rather than high pressure from sales person at local dealerships. A lot of my Honda owning friends never saw the need for extended warranty...
  • laiwlaiw Member Posts: 9
Even the two Frank Kent had are gone now. I guess I have to pick another model.
  • rekhrekh Member Posts: 47
Hi, as I know, the time limit is one year/6000miles (whichever comes first). You can find out these numbers buy getting prices on-line. You can buy the extended warranty during that time/millage with the same price and it starts from the day of purchase(of the warranty). So I think it's better to buy it latter. Why? let's say you drive 6000 miles in the first year. So if you buy a 7-year extended Warranty one year after buying the car, your coverage will be 8 years.(The first year is covered buy the basic warranty). Here is one of the web sites. http://www.jayhondacare.com/ Just search in Google for others. You can also buy it after the time limit, but you should pay more. Also, when you buy on-line ,in most cases, you won't pay tax. The only negative point is that you can not put it in your loan and you should it pay in full( or buy credit card).
  • mattchalmersmattchalmers Member Posts: 159
the HondaCare warranties run from vehile in-service date and mileage. A 5 year 100,000 mile warranty has the same coverage, whether you buy it on day 1 at 5 miles or day 360 with 5,000 miles.

As a point of reference, the COST of a 5 year, 100,000 mile, 0 deductible HondaCare warranty is $715.

I bought an '06 Pilot EX-L 4WD 2 weeks ago from Sloane Honda in Phila. Excellent experience, gave me $3,000 below invoice. I think I got the last Sage Brush Pearl in the tri-state area.

Has anybody seen that Honda is already offering special financing on the '07 Pilot? 4.9% for 24-60 months. So don't feel so bad if you missed out on the '06's. Looks like they may be dealing soon.

I just got 2006 honda pilot LX 4WD on Long Island below carsdirect.com price. It is a good guide for prices. Originally dealer asked 26000 for this car which had plastic door and hood wind deflectors and wheel mud guards and exhaust chrome tip ( 450 on Honda website w/o installation)
but after mentioning carsdirect.com and dealer rebate of 3K and 3% honda kickback to dealers - price zoomed to the bottom line of 23750. I think it is a good price. Honda 2.9 APR for 3 years made financing a breeze. Dealer groaned and moaned but thats their job.... ;-)

I did haggle by saying that I dont need any "plastic crap" they put on, but it does make car look nicer ;-). I also said that I am not in a hurry to buy new car and honda special pricing and last year model sale ( good deal for me) is the only thing that could make deal happen.

Need I say that sale people MUST lie to get higher price ?
And although I am not sale person kind at all - it is me who is paying the tab. so a little of their own medicine for them would not hurt.

Actually in the end after all was done, salesguy mentioned that they got "only 1000 profit of this car". So, I was not perfect in haggling. But that's ok, dealers have kids too .....

Apple Honda in Riverhead, NY has one pilot 2006 4wd ex-l left, and I believe they really want to get rid of it.

Here, I advertised them, so should Apple Honda guys read this - send me a thank you note!.

    Good luck.

The new marketing support on the 2006 Pilot is $2,500. :(

Looks like the Financing money went to the 2007 model. :(

Tougher decision now for buyers. :confuse:
  • davidd3davidd3 Member Posts: 582
Does anyone know if there is any leasing support on either model (2006 or 2007), or is it still a bad combination of high money factors and low residuals? At least residuals should be higher right now on 2007s (at the beginning of the model year) than on 2006s (at the end of the model year).

I am wondering if we will ever again see high residuals for Pilot leases. With high gas prices seemingly here to stay, fewer people want mid to large size SUVs, whether new or used. I'll most likely end up with an Odyssey myself, though my wife and I might like a Pilot for a change after 10 years of Odysseys (which is why I'm lurking in Pilot forums).

So I am a few days too late for the $3000... Today I was quoted $26,240 for a black 4x4 EX model or $24,290 for a black 4x4 LX model. Was told lowest dealer fees in the state (Iowa). Though they have to get it from some other dealer. Was also told can't go any lower. Doesn't seem to be matching the great prices seen on this forum or by CarsDirect. Any advice on how to get them down any further? Any advice on which one to go for? Really don't care about the auto seat or other extras in the EX (though do appreciate a good stereo). Haven't seen a LX so not sure how the painted alloys look. Thanks for any advice!
  • wantapilotwantapilot Member Posts: 4
Did the CarsDirect thing and got a quote for a black LX 4X4 from a dealer about a hundred miles away for $23,200. Most likely will take it. Won't be able to get one any lower the other dealer says...

Not going to do it untill Saturday so still would appreciate any advice! Is the LX stereo all that bad?
  • ardashevsardashevs Member Posts: 2
honda stereos DO NOT play mp3 disks. They offer separate player for mp3 ( 600 baks !!! ) , which is kinda silly. So, cashing out for 6-cd changer does not make sense if you can have one mp3 disk with same or more number of songs as 6 normal disks. Better spend that money on after-market mp3 wma stereo. As for additional speakers and sub woofer which is coming with EX - depends on your taste. Seems 4 on LX is enough.

I had an older car ( not honda) with power seat stuck close to wheel - could not be driven till taken to repair shop. Manual one better I think.

Black windows ( privacy glass ) on EX models is just a matter of taste - but I dont like it.

    Therefore LX was the choice.

LOL, browse nearby zip codes with carsdirect, get lower quote and tell them you are ready to make a trip and save some baks in another dealership not very far, which has just the right car at the right price for you, and it is silly for them to let the deal go for mere X dollars. (If they refuse anyway, go away and wait a day). They will call you back with a lower offer !!! And if not, come back and take the car at their looks like bottom price. Cause the car is nice.
  • mattchalmersmattchalmers Member Posts: 159
I think there is more than just the stereo that is different on the LX. According to www.edmunds.com :

Going with the EX adds alloy wheels, auto-off headlamps, an eight-way power driver seat with lumbar, extra interior storage, automatic climate control, HomeLink and steering wheel-mounted audio controls.

I am not sure what the "auto-off headlamps" are. If I were in your shoes, I would get a quote from carsdirect on the EX model and then choose. It all depends on how much more they want for the vehicle.

Good luck with the purchase. Get a quote on any extended HondaCare warranty BEFORE purchase. There are many information sources on line (honda pilot org) for you to review.
  • rbell2rbell2 Member Posts: 180
Another key difference with the EX's over LX's is the cloth interior is upgraded in the EX. The LX interior to me seems a little cheap, the EX is much better.
  • trdprerunnerdctrdprerunnerdc Member Posts: 52
Hey what is an MP3 disc? I have an 06 EXL w/ 6 disc and I can play cd's I burn on cd-rw, but will not play cd-r disc I burn. Are you referring to a MP3 player?

Yes I know, I've been living under a rock.
  • wantapilotwantapilot Member Posts: 4
MP3 disc is a burnt disc with mp3's on it instead of the standard tracks. Can hold between 50 to 200 songs depending how you burn it.

That doesn't make much sense that the 6-disc changer doesn't play them but the single player does. Oh well.
  • honda15honda15 Member Posts: 1
I have a bad experience with them. They are greedy and pushy. People out there are not courteous and they wont care about you all they care is they push you so you will buy from them. I would advice buyers not to buy at SHOWCASE HONDA.BEWARE!!!
  • wantapilotwantapilot Member Posts: 4
Ended up getting a black EX 4X4 for $24,800 before TTL. They even threw in mud flaps, rubber mats and a rubber cargo mat. Love it. Couldn't turn down the extra $1,600 to get so many more options in the EX. The stereo is a whole lot better and I think the wheels make it look a lot sharper. Anyways, happy to be a Pilot owner!

I'm looking to buy a 2007 Honda Pilot EX-L 4WD with Navi. I've e-mailed a bunch of dealers and the best price I seem to be able to get via the internet is $31,979. I was wondering if this is a good deal or not?
  • mattchalmersmattchalmers Member Posts: 159
32.6 was the best price I received on a 2007, but I did not really negotiate, since I was getting a 2006.
  • glv2glv2 Member Posts: 7
I am considering buying a 2006 Pilot LX 2WD. I have received an internet quote of $22,500.00 plus tax from a dealer in the northeastern Ohio area. Can I expect to talk this price down at all or is this most likely the best I can do?
  • mattchalmersmattchalmers Member Posts: 159
check previous posts from August and July. If you can get near those deals, you are doing well. The invoice (according to Edmunds.com) is 24,889, so taking the current incentive (2,500 dealer cash) would put you at 22,389. At that price the dealer is still making money, so you may be able to get below that number. Either way, 22,500 does not seem to be a bad deal, but you may be able to do better. One impactful item is the already installed dealer accessories. Make sure the price quoted includes any dealer installed accessories not directed by you. Good luck with your purchase.

is this a bad price, can I do better? Should this price include taxes, tags and all fees?
  • piloteerpiloteer Member Posts: 20
Well that depends if this is a 4WD or 2WD, does it have Nav or Res. Also does this include dest.($595). Any options included? Those are the questions that must be answered to determine if this is a good deal or not. :confuse:

Some have achieved $7500- $8000+ off a 4wd EX. That puts an EX 4wd at possibly 23200. This is especially true for silver which seems to be ubiquitous.

At your price of $22500 for the LX 2wd it may be possible to pay $800 more for $3500 more machine (EX 4wd). (in real life 60% more machine in an Ex 4wd with VTM-4 ... especially in Cleveland)

$5000 off an LX 2wd is actually fairly good but (unfortunately?) 7500+ is fairly good for an EX 4wd (there are more of them) Page thru the prices paid here the last few months to verify.

Try emailing 15-20 dealers toward the end of the month for silver blue gray etc for a 4wd ex promising a purchase by eom. make them aware you are emailing 10-20 dealers.

Review my message 12481 in the Accord prices paid discussion for info and resources to learn how to buy a car.

Pass on the LX as there are fewer of them. They are outnumbered by EX 4wd by 2-3/1 thus the deals obtainable aren't as good especially if you get picky on color.

Pass on Lx/Ex 2wd as for (essentially after 7500+ off ) 1-3% more your are getting 60% more machine in the 4wd (Ex) (true in Texas... quintuple true in Cleveland) Not worth losing VTM-4 to save essentially 200-1200 bucks and get possibly 2 mpg.

Gas mileage is barely 7% better and the small advantage may disappear depending on your driving habits. (Ignore the 3 cylinder shut down on the highway etc.. (exclusive to the 2wd?) ...Its not worth the added complexity for 2mpg and loss of 4wd especially with the deals available)

An LX or EX 2wd stripped of VTM-4 is essentially a crippled machine. 2 mpg isn't worth it. Especially with the real world pricing situation.

If anyone thinks I've missed anything please let me know as I've got the 4wd and can't believe anyone would want the 2wd (even on sticker its only $1200 (4%) more.) Insurance is $24.00 more/yr so that is a wash too.

    Bought a 2006 EX-L 4WD for $25,888 plus $550 dest = $26,438 on July 27th - includes leather / sunroof / XM radio.

My cousin bought a 2006 EX 4WD for $23,450 plus $550 dest = $24,000 in August. (No L, No sunroof, No XM)

    Both in New Jersey.

I'm sure you can do better with some haggling, but it's a safe bet that dealers won't buckle under until they unload their '06 models.
