The Pilot I got came with mud guards, wheel locks, and tinting. I was not charged additional money for these add ons because the price was agreed upon already.
MSRP: $35,845 - EXL w/ NAV (Billet Silver)
First offer: $29,900
Final offer: $29,200
Traded: 1997 Civic DX, $130,000 miles
First offer: $1,000
Final offer: $1,500
Total w/ trade: $27,700
Tax: $1,390
Title/Reg/Doc prep: $300 (not positive)
Thoughts? What is the consensus that should be paid for this model w/ options?
I love this SUV and all the toys that came with it!
You already did the deal.
Some spoil sport will no doubt come along and rain on your parade by telling you you paid too much!
Happens in these forums all of the time.
Obviously if you are happy, then you should be fine, but in my experience purchasing, and on this forum, you did great. You paid $253 less than I did for my 4WD EX-L w/ Navi (same color too). Only other difference was that we purchased a 5 year, 100,000 mile, 0 deductible Hondacare warranty with it for $750.
It is by far the best car I have owned, even though it has only been 3 days!
Happy motoring. :shades:
Most important thing is that people feel they got a fair deal. In the end, my wife and I paid about $500 more than we had to because we were more comfortable with Frank Kent Honda in Fort Worth. It is not always about getting the cheapest deal possible, there are intangibles, at least for me.
I am planning to buy a Pilot EXL with Navigation system or DVD in DC metro area. Is anyone has any good experience to share? Just like to know what is the best price paid for this car? Please also include the options that were thrown in.
I want to make the deal today or tomorrow.
thanks/regards

The deals on the 2006 models are insane. I just bought a silver EXL w/ NAV for 26,600. Note that this was a 2WD purchased in New England (we are driving it across the country and will live in CA -- so AWD doesn't matter). The 2WD has the engine management system to shut down the cylinders and cost about 1K less than 4WD.
The best mileage I have gotten is 22.5 but the engine is still brand new and we are driving 75MPH.
Best I can tell this was about 8K off of sticker and 700 under dealer cost after rebates and holdback.
We love it and have been spending 8-12 hours a day in it with our two dogs as we drive across the country.
We bought from Bernardi in Framingham MA. None of the other dealers had any NAV units left. We were prepared to spend up to 33K on a 2003 or newer MDX, but the used car manager was really honest and said that they would cut us a great deal on a Pilot and it was a newer design. I got quotes from all the dealers and haggled with them all.
Best of luck to all you. This is a great vehicle.

I should also add -- we paid an additional 5% sales tax and rejected all the extras. The extended warranty should not be needed on a Toyota or Honda. The finance guy seemed a little pissed off about this, but he'll get over it. We paid with a cashiers check.

Thanks for sharing your purchase info
Anyway, don't worry about the dealers making money. They do just fine, when they are not selling cars at a huge discount most of the time.
FYI: The 2006 and 2007 seem to be identical, the 2007 glossy brochure has the exact photos as the 2006, the only difference I found was the color chart in the back.
Extended warranty $1200.
The deal is over soon. you won't have much choice on color option anywhere. If I were you, I would simply pick the one I donot dislike the most.
Does anyone know if there a time limit to buy the extended warranty from date of purchase? From this forum apparently there are better deals by direct email contact in mid-West,
rather than high pressure from sales person at local dealerships. A lot of my Honda owning friends never saw the need for extended warranty...
As a point of reference, the COST of a 5 year, 100,000 mile, 0 deductible HondaCare warranty is $715.
Has anybody seen that Honda is already offering special financing on the '07 Pilot? 4.9% for 24-60 months. So don't feel so bad if you missed out on the '06's. Looks like they may be dealing soon.
but after mentioning carsdirect.com and dealer rebate of 3K and 3% honda kickback to dealers - price zoomed to the bottom line of 23750. I think it is a good price. Honda 2.9 APR for 3 years made financing a breeze. Dealer groaned and moaned but thats their job.... ;-)
I did haggle by saying that I dont need any "plastic crap" they put on, but it does make car look nicer ;-). I also said that I am not in a hurry to buy new car and honda special pricing and last year model sale ( good deal for me) is the only thing that could make deal happen.
Need I say that sale people MUST lie to get higher price ?
And although I am not sale person kind at all - it is me who is paying the tab. so a little of their own medicine for them would not hurt.
Actually in the end after all was done, salesguy mentioned that they got "only 1000 profit of this car". So, I was not perfect in haggling. But that's ok, dealers have kids too .....
Apple Honda in Riverhead, NY has one pilot 2006 4wd ex-l left, and I believe they really want to get rid of it.
Here, I advertised them, so should Apple Honda guys read this - send me a thank you note!.
Good luck.
Looks like the Financing money went to the 2007 model.
Tougher decision now for buyers. :confuse:
I am wondering if we will ever again see high residuals for Pilot leases. With high gas prices seemingly here to stay, fewer people want mid to large size SUVs, whether new or used. I'll most likely end up with an Odyssey myself, though my wife and I might like a Pilot for a change after 10 years of Odysseys (which is why I'm lurking in Pilot forums).
Not going to do it untill Saturday so still would appreciate any advice! Is the LX stereo all that bad?
I had an older car ( not honda) with power seat stuck close to wheel - could not be driven till taken to repair shop. Manual one better I think.
Black windows ( privacy glass ) on EX models is just a matter of taste - but I dont like it.
Therefore LX was the choice.
LOL, browse nearby zip codes with carsdirect, get lower quote and tell them you are ready to make a trip and save some baks in another dealership not very far, which has just the right car at the right price for you, and it is silly for them to let the deal go for mere X dollars. (If they refuse anyway, go away and wait a day). They will call you back with a lower offer !!! And if not, come back and take the car at their looks like bottom price. Cause the car is nice.
Going with the EX adds alloy wheels, auto-off headlamps, an eight-way power driver seat with lumbar, extra interior storage, automatic climate control, HomeLink and steering wheel-mounted audio controls.
I am not sure what the "auto-off headlamps" are. If I were in your shoes, I would get a quote from carsdirect on the EX model and then choose. It all depends on how much more they want for the vehicle.
Good luck with the purchase. Get a quote on any extended HondaCare warranty BEFORE purchase. There are many information sources on line (honda pilot org) for you to review.
Yes I know, I've been living under a rock.
That doesn't make much sense that the 6-disc changer doesn't play them but the single player does. Oh well.
is this a bad price, can I do better? Should this price include taxes, tags and all fees?
At your price of $22500 for the LX 2wd it may be possible to pay $800 more for $3500 more machine (EX 4wd). (in real life 60% more machine in an Ex 4wd with VTM-4 ... especially in Cleveland)
$5000 off an LX 2wd is actually fairly good but (unfortunately?) 7500+ is fairly good for an EX 4wd (there are more of them) Page thru the prices paid here the last few months to verify.
Try emailing 15-20 dealers toward the end of the month for silver blue gray etc for a 4wd ex promising a purchase by eom. make them aware you are emailing 10-20 dealers.
Review my message 12481 in the Accord prices paid discussion for info and resources to learn how to buy a car.
Pass on the LX as there are fewer of them. They are outnumbered by EX 4wd by 2-3/1 thus the deals obtainable aren't as good especially if you get picky on color.
Pass on Lx/Ex 2wd as for (essentially after 7500+ off ) 1-3% more your are getting 60% more machine in the 4wd (Ex) (true in Texas... quintuple true in Cleveland) Not worth losing VTM-4 to save essentially 200-1200 bucks and get possibly 2 mpg.
Gas mileage is barely 7% better and the small advantage may disappear depending on your driving habits. (Ignore the 3 cylinder shut down on the highway etc.. (exclusive to the 2wd?) ...Its not worth the added complexity for 2mpg and loss of 4wd especially with the deals available)
An LX or EX 2wd stripped of VTM-4 is essentially a crippled machine. 2 mpg isn't worth it. Especially with the real world pricing situation.
If anyone thinks I've missed anything please let me know as I've got the 4wd and can't believe anyone would want the 2wd (even on sticker its only $1200 (4%) more.) Insurance is $24.00 more/yr so that is a wash too.

I am considering buying a 2006 Pilot LX 2WD. I have received an internet quote of $22,500.00 plus tax from a dealer in the northeastern Ohio area. Can I expect to talk this price down at all or is this most likely the best I can do? Replies to this message:
My cousin bought a 2006 EX 4WD for $23,450 plus $550 dest = $24,000 in August. (No L, No sunroof, No XM)
Both in New Jersey.
