jim from honda. does your dealership transport pilots back to new york. if they do email me with your name and number and exactly how much over invoice and what your charge is to ship to staten island new york. if you could beat the prices in ohio i will pass your info to 3 of my closest friends who want to buy a pilot. your price must beat 750 over invoice and 450 to ship to new york. no doc fee's no other charges. sold done deal. thanks brian

If you can get $28.4k and no junk or doc fees that is an awesome price. However, it is not clear from your post if "all other fees" are over top of this quote. I would only place refundable deposits just to keep things honest. I chose the option to pay the remainder at delivery also to keep things honest. Be aware of the low price for the car but thousands in extra padding for worthless options (cargo cover + flaps can be had under $130 elsewhere and pinstriping is a $10 option). Check with an accessory site to get the feel for cost of parts (read the install instructions to get a feel for labour costs).

If this is an honest offer, you have done great.
  • medstermedster Member Posts: 8
    Car was $28,000,mud flaps $110 installed,cargo cover $140 installed,pin stripe $80 installed, junk doc fees $120...this equals the $28.4.
However, they just faxed me the purchase order to sign and forgot to list the installed options on the contract! Also, had EX model marked not EXL
model! I did not sign the contract and I went to call them about it and they were already closed for the day. Hopefully can resolve this tomorrow. I will keep everyone posted to tell if deal is valid or fishy????
  • my3kidsmy3kids Member Posts: 56
You won't find out tomorrow. Sim Fryson is closed on Saturday.
  • atalalayatalalay Member Posts: 58
hondacuraworld.com currently sells flaps for $28 (installation is 3 screws a side) and the cover for $102.70 (installation is also very doable)with shipping included. BTW they also have running boards on sale for $385.00...

Basically, you could simply tell them to keep the accessories and buy them on your own because they are overly padded... I see your price as $28.27k which is VERY HOT for EX-L but only luke warm for an EX. My $0.02...

Allow me to clarify our operating hours here at Sim Fryson Motor Co. Due to the strong religious convictions of our president Mr. Fryson we observe his sabbath day, and being a Seventh Day Adventist, is Saturday. And givin his respect for all other denominations he remains closed on our day of worship. Not many dealers would put their faith above the bottom line, and I am proud to be associated with such a company.

Should be enjoying your vacation and the new home.Jim have Robert call me FIRST THING MONDAY AM to get the contract right.Your quote was for a EXL correct?
Did you notice that BRIAN125 from NYC wants to buy three from you if our deal stays good.Maybe you should throw the options in as free because of the business I am drumming up for you.Have a great vacation.

  • brian125brian125 Member Posts: 5,244
hidy honda, hugh white honda, waikem honda, he has 3 very good deals on the table. he is leaning towards hidy cause they will ship it to a dealer in the area here and then install his accessories, running boards etc. exl/ res is 30k with out any accessories added on yet. tell jim to fax you a buyers order with your pilot any accessories you want give him a 500 REFUNDABLE DEPOSIT MAKE SURE REFUNDABLE IS ON THE ORDER WITH NO DEMO PILOT AND NO MORE THAN 50 MILES ON ODEMETER upon del. see if he could del like he says.

ehondajim: no one is questioning or belittling your dealership right to close on Saturday... We only want to see the same zeal when it comes to honest disclosure of information and dealing with customers.

I was wondering what the best price anyone has paid in Southern California? I have been quoted Ex cloth interior, for $28,730. Wondering if I can do better than that?

    Thanks all!

Just bought a 2003 EX-L Red from Bianchi Honda in Erie, PA. They were great to work with - excellent service and they deliver out of state. I would highly recommend them. They did everything they said they would do and gave me the best price I could find on the east coast.
  • atalalayatalalay Member Posts: 58
Hey, Joejack, you forgot to tell what the actual price is? What is the best deal on the East Coast? Enlighten us, please! Where are the numbers?

I am looking for Pilot EX-L, can people buying in Atlanta area post the prices they are paying for. The lowest I got was 28880 from Edvoyles excluding destination. But I want to pay only Invoice price with destination.
  • todd48todd48 Member Posts: 22
You're not going to find it at invoice price anywhere in the country. It's a very high-demand vehicle, especially since nearly every automotive magazine has rated it the best SUV in it's class. Look at it's cousin, the MDX. People were paying 3-5K more than MSRP for more than a year after it came out. I think it's still going more than MSRP here in the Pacific Northwest.

At 28,880 for an EXL, that's at least $3 less than any dealer here would sell one for. I've checked many dealers in OR, WA and ID and most of them are still holding out for $1000 to $1500 more than MSRP. Why? Because people are paying it. I had a face to face conversation with an internet manager at one of those dealerships yesterday and when I told him there were a couple of dealerships selling them for $500 less than MSRP, he said, flat out "I know about those dealerships, but there's no way we're going to get into a price matching situation with them. Why should we, when we can't keep them in stock at $1000 over?" He went on to tell me that they don't do dealer trades with any of those low-price dealerships anymore, nor do any of the other dealerships that are getting $1000+ more than MSRP.

I know it really varies according to which part of the country you live. Although at that price of $28.8, I'd jump at it. Like I said, most dealers around here are getting that for a base LX.
  • atalalayatalalay Member Posts: 58
Prices for Pilots vary a great deal across the country. Most major city dealers are asking and frequently getting MSRP. However, there are a lot of differences and Portland is nowhere near Atlanta. The only good place I know that has price and geographic price disparities is mycarmyprice.com. In particular, try http://www.mycar.com/new_cars/new_car_auction/historical_prices/d- efault.asp?make_id= to see the historical price information for many states including GA. $1.5k over invoice is pretty ok and folks have been getting that in GA for a few months now. The best prices people have been getting here on this board is closer to $500-1000 range over invoice. At that price even one lives on the West Coast, one can pay $700-800 for shipping and still get it at $1500 over invoice delivered to the door. Todd, are you interested? If you are, read the above posts on out-of-state buys..
  • todd48todd48 Member Posts: 22
I know it really varies from region to region, but why is that? Is it just not a very popular vehicle in the midwest and in the south? Ohio is where I can get it for $500 to $1000 over invoice, right?

If you could fill me in on the details: which dealers, which shipper would I use, how would I inspect the vehicle before delivery, how would the transaction work, etc., I'd really appreciate it!!
  • clpurnellclpurnell Member Posts: 1,083
People in those areas usually consider american vehicles to a greater extent than the people on the coasts. Therefore lowering the demand. I live in Texas and a lot of people will not even cosider a foriegn vehicle. I was able to get 2000 off my ody relatively easy. So deals are to be had in those places.
  • brian125brian125 Member Posts: 5,244
todd you'd be a fool to give any honda dealer 2000 dollars more than you have to.. read prevous post from janurary you will see what dealers in ohio,, hidy, waikem honda, and a few others are dealing in simular states.. you go where the deal is... greed , greed , supply and demand thats what honda is playing... play the game unless saving 2k does not bother you.. dont be fooled by these honda dealers posting all this nonesense on this board... you could read right tru it.great sevice, invoice pricing,, etc etc,

Shipping it cross-country (especially on an open trailer) and not being able to inspect the vehicle prior to delivery.

Plus, I'd probably have to pay near $1000 to have it shipped, which negates a lot of the savings.

atalalay emailed me this info this morning:
"I understand that brian125 got his from Hidy Honda (also in OH) and they drop shipped it for $500.That might work better for you if you can get a dealership to take their allocated stock and have it delivered to one of your local dealerships. Then you simply pay at the local dealership but you negotiate the price with the folks to whom your Pilot is actually allocated."

Brian125, how would I go about doing this? Thanks in advance.
  • my3kidsmy3kids Member Posts: 56
I was just recently looking into the shipment issue. You can refuse shipment after inspection. One dealer I spoke with said it has never happened and that she ships a lot of them to out of state purchasers. It is the same kind of truck that it arrives from Honda to the dealer on, or at least it was in my case. Other options are to fly one way and drive home. If you have a weekend, it might be worth giving up for the savings. Even with shipping, it sounds like you'll still save.

I have just done the out of state thing. I will admit, I am going to pick it up though because having it delivered to my door was just a little too much for my nerves to take. I will probably fly and drive it home. It isn't the traditional way of buying a car, but it sure seems the least nerve wracking and is certainly the most cost effective.

I talked to a lot of the dealers that have been mentioned in posts over the last month or two. With the exception of one dealer, I found them to be very versed in these out of state purchases. They were very helpful and quick to return my emails or calls. They offered a fair price right off the bat. I checked Better Business Bureau records and was quite confident when I made my final decision.

It might be too unconventional for some people. but for a small investment of time, you really can save a lot of money.
  • atalalayatalalay Member Posts: 58
My3kids, I second your view. I ordered out of state and I now have 1k on my Pilot. I am very happy with my decision to deal over the web & phone. It was easier to negotiate over facts in stead of game playing about everything else. Furthermore, I think (IMHO) that many of the risks involved with this kind of purchase are actually less than they appear.

However, you can only refuse the shipment if your dealer is actually deliverying. If Todd gets a 3rd party to ship his Pilot that will not work.
  • brian125brian125 Member Posts: 5,244
todd.... the dealers i emailed you with are looking to deal... honest, no hassle, no game playing... they will put all the cards on the table... my main concerns with the out of state purchase when i was buying was money exchange, paperwork,,if installed added accessories in ohio had a problem would a local dealer take care of it in n.y. , if pilot had scratches.. i think the courtesy ship del from ohio to new york dealership worked out super. if you read posts from people like ATALALAY, DCWAYNE, ETC all there pilots were flatbeded with out a hitch .. either way its a no lose situation.. unless like you said to ship to your area is 1000 dollars.i think if your saving 1500 to 2500 dollars and your pilot is flatbeded to your house with a few scratches on it.. its a risk i will take everytime..all dealers i'm sure do a good inspection before the vehicle leaves.. you now they want there money. good luck

Brian125 and Atalalay, thanks a lot for the info in the emails.

my3kids- Could you be a little more specific: which dealers, how much they quoted, etc.?
    Thanks a lot.
  • my3kidsmy3kids Member Posts: 56
My offers for the Pilot ranged from a few hundred above INVOICE to full MSRP. Look back through the posts over the last couple of months and you'll get a list of dealers in Ohio and one in KY and one in PA. I'd contact the ones listed in Ohio, I never contacted the PA one, so can't help you there.

I never pitted one against the other. I just asked for the best price they could offer. The OH offers were all very good prices. There was none of the "well, we're selling at full sticker" quotes that I was gettting at home. They were all very helpful and I would have had no doubts about getting exactly what I thought I was getting from any of the OH dealers I talked to. I did internet searches to make sure I couldn't find any history of complaints. I checked BBB websites.

I also emailed some dealers in that area who were NOT listed here and consistantly, they were much much higher.

glad to see brian125 and ataalay still pounding you all like you were in the same bunker with saddam about the out of state deals. i purchased an odyssey last december from an Ohio dealer and had one of their employees drive it to my house. NO PROBLEMS, in fact the best experience i ever had. internet/email works.

Which translates to $28,330 for a Taffeta White Honda Pilot EX-L.

I talked to the Credit Union fleet manager at Vandergriff Honda in Arlington and the best deal he offered was $1500 off MSRP. Considering the depressed economy in the DFW area, I decided that wasn't good enough so I went back to where I originally started shooping (Huggins Honda) and got My EXL for $2650 off MSRP which was more than acceptable for me. The Pilot was on their "incoming" list, and Pilots don't stay on their lot very long. The dealership was very low pressure, happy to have my business, and delivered my Pilot 3 days later. I paid cash and their finance manager was extremely nice and didn't try to sell me on anything extra.

I tried the internet, I tried Credit Union fleet managers, I tried Costco Auto, I tried Autobytel, and the best result was contacting a regular salesman who was willing to work with me at Huggins.

Moral of the story - don't give up, don't settle for an internet or fleet price if you feel you can get a better price, especially in areas where the economy isn't thriving (I wouldn't expect this sort of pricing in Northern CA). I have had my Pilot for two days and love it!

Anybody else have this sort of experience?

I picked my Pilot March 13.
    I paid $1000 under MSRP.
    My accessories were at cost.
    I dealt with internet sales.
    I traded a 2001 Toyota Highlander,
which I think is a little zippier than the Pilot and got slightly better gas mileage.
    The Pilot is nice.

    Pilot folks I need help!

Sorry for the cross posting if you read this in another discussion group...

I have a dealer that is a two hour interstate drive from my home who is offering me a good deal ($30000 drive out on an EXL) and am wondering what I should do with regard to the new engine. Do I go to the dealer and buy the vehicle and limp it home in accordance with most of the "break in" advice I've read (500-1000 mile at varying speeds) or forgo the deal in fear of destroying my new (and expensive) engine and buy closer to home. I haven't found any official Honda literature on the matter and have been hesitant to ask a salesman of any stripe for fear of their influencing my decision in their favor.
    Thoughts? Advice? Experience?

Thanks in advance from a future paranoid Pilot owner.

    Ken
  • my3kidsmy3kids Member Posts: 56
I have the same situation and when I asked, I got the exact same answer from several dealers. It was the same to the point I felt like it had to be an true and not just a salesman's pitch.

I was told that for the 'break in' period, you are to avoid fast starts and hard fast breaking. I will have to travel home close to 500 miles. They said as long as I got going from a stopped position easily without a "jack rabbit" start and allowed plenty of stopping time so I wasn't slamming on the brakes, that the Pilot would be just fine.

I hope so. I go get it this week!

KEN i too am not a big fan of driving any new car across the state more than a couple of hours.. i think if you take your time change speeds and don't go wild you should be fine.. i have read many post from people driving 8 to 10 hours with there cars/trucks.. no problems..my one pet peeve is having a stranger drive/transporting your new vehicle 6/8 10 hours to your area... do you think the person driven your new car is saying let me change speeds keep it under 60mph... for mr brian.. ken .. i say limp that pilot home and with the extra money you save donate 100 dollars to your favorite house of worship,, by the dog a new bone,, give the wife the divorce she's been wanting... and enjoy your new pilot....lol

Just purchased a Pilot with the Entertainment Center and 7 year 100K BTB extended warranty for 1800 under MSRP. Dealer was great. They even beat my preapproved 4.9% loan with a 2.9% rate! I am very happy with this SUV.

I almost purchased the Toyota Highlander Limited which would have cost $1000 more (best deal I could find). My wife and I were just had to decide on the color. On the way home from the 3rd and last HL test drive, I decided that I really should look at the Pilot. Lucky I did.

It is much more vehicle for the money. The ride is superior to the Highlander. The Engine/Transmission performance was much smoother and quieter than the HL. More interior space. Much less road noise than the HL.

In every important category except one (the HL has a more "luxurious" interior), the Pilot wins, hands down.

One that concerned me was the larger size of the Pilot over the HL: our previous vehicle was the Toyota Rav4. My wife drove the Pilot and she said it would be OK. One month later, the size concern has vanished.

    Buy a Pilot.

Brian125, Atalalay, my3kids ... thanks for your posting ... do you know where in Ohio people are buying for invoice price or just a little over it? I am in Atlanta and looking for a good deal here but so far unsuccessful.
  • angieebangieeb Member Posts: 8
In contrast to your wonderful experience at this dealership, I had a horrible experience with Huggins Honda! In January, they would not deal at all and wanted sticker price only. I found the salesperson arrogant and insulting. I was told if I thought I could find a better deal, then go do it. I did. I paid $28375 for my Pilot EX-L with a cargo cover at Jim McNatt Honda in DeSoto, Texas. I also had a deal worked out with Gillman Honda in Dennison, Texas for the same amount, but the deal fell through when the car didn't come in. I guess you just have to get the right person. Bottom line: you should not pay sticker or close to it for this vehicle.
