If this is an honest offer, you have done great.
However, they just faxed me the purchase order to sign and forgot to list the installed options on the contract! Also, had EX model marked not EXL
model! I did not sign the contract and I went to call them about it and they were already closed for the day. Hopefully can resolve this tomorrow. I will keep everyone posted to tell if deal is valid or fishy????
Basically, you could simply tell them to keep the accessories and buy them on your own because they are overly padded... I see your price as $28.27k which is VERY HOT for EX-L but only luke warm for an EX. My $0.02...
Did you notice that BRIAN125 from NYC wants to buy three from you if our deal stays good.Maybe you should throw the options in as free because of the business I am drumming up for you.Have a great vacation.

ehondajim: no one is questioning or belittling your dealership right to close on Saturday... We only want to see the same zeal when it comes to honest disclosure of information and dealing with customers.
Thanks all!
Many thanks,

At 28,880 for an EXL, that's at least $3 less than any dealer here would sell one for. I've checked many dealers in OR, WA and ID and most of them are still holding out for $1000 to $1500 more than MSRP. Why? Because people are paying it. I had a face to face conversation with an internet manager at one of those dealerships yesterday and when I told him there were a couple of dealerships selling them for $500 less than MSRP, he said, flat out "I know about those dealerships, but there's no way we're going to get into a price matching situation with them. Why should we, when we can't keep them in stock at $1000 over?" He went on to tell me that they don't do dealer trades with any of those low-price dealerships anymore, nor do any of the other dealerships that are getting $1000+ more than MSRP.
I know it really varies according to which part of the country you live. Although at that price of $28.8, I'd jump at it. Like I said, most dealers around here are getting that for a base LX.
If you could fill me in on the details: which dealers, which shipper would I use, how would I inspect the vehicle before delivery, how would the transaction work, etc., I'd really appreciate it!!

Plus, I'd probably have to pay near $1000 to have it shipped, which negates a lot of the savings.
atalalay emailed me this info this morning:
"I understand that brian125 got his from Hidy Honda (also in OH) and they drop shipped it for $500.That might work better for you if you can get a dealership to take their allocated stock and have it delivered to one of your local dealerships. Then you simply pay at the local dealership but you negotiate the price with the folks to whom your Pilot is actually allocated."
Brian125, how would I go about doing this? Thanks in advance.
I have just done the out of state thing. I will admit, I am going to pick it up though because having it delivered to my door was just a little too much for my nerves to take. I will probably fly and drive it home. It isn't the traditional way of buying a car, but it sure seems the least nerve wracking and is certainly the most cost effective.
I talked to a lot of the dealers that have been mentioned in posts over the last month or two. With the exception of one dealer, I found them to be very versed in these out of state purchases. They were very helpful and quick to return my emails or calls. They offered a fair price right off the bat. I checked Better Business Bureau records and was quite confident when I made my final decision.
It might be too unconventional for some people. but for a small investment of time, you really can save a lot of money.
However, you can only refuse the shipment if your dealer is actually deliverying. If Todd gets a 3rd party to ship his Pilot that will not work.

my3kids- Could you be a little more specific: which dealers, how much they quoted, etc.?
Thanks a lot.
I never pitted one against the other. I just asked for the best price they could offer. The OH offers were all very good prices. There was none of the "well, we're selling at full sticker" quotes that I was gettting at home. They were all very helpful and I would have had no doubts about getting exactly what I thought I was getting from any of the OH dealers I talked to. I did internet searches to make sure I couldn't find any history of complaints. I checked BBB websites.
I also emailed some dealers in that area who were NOT listed here and consistantly, they were much much higher.
I talked to the Credit Union fleet manager at Vandergriff Honda in Arlington and the best deal he offered was $1500 off MSRP. Considering the depressed economy in the DFW area, I decided that wasn't good enough so I went back to where I originally started shooping (Huggins Honda) and got My EXL for $2650 off MSRP which was more than acceptable for me. The Pilot was on their "incoming" list, and Pilots don't stay on their lot very long. The dealership was very low pressure, happy to have my business, and delivered my Pilot 3 days later. I paid cash and their finance manager was extremely nice and didn't try to sell me on anything extra.
I tried the internet, I tried Credit Union fleet managers, I tried Costco Auto, I tried Autobytel, and the best result was contacting a regular salesman who was willing to work with me at Huggins.
Moral of the story - don't give up, don't settle for an internet or fleet price if you feel you can get a better price, especially in areas where the economy isn't thriving (I wouldn't expect this sort of pricing in Northern CA). I have had my Pilot for two days and love it!
Anybody else have this sort of experience?
I paid $1000 under MSRP.
My accessories were at cost.
I dealt with internet sales.
I traded a 2001 Toyota Highlander,
which I think is a little zippier than the Pilot and got slightly better gas mileage.
The Pilot is nice.
Sorry for the cross posting if you read this in another discussion group...
I have a dealer that is a two hour interstate drive from my home who is offering me a good deal ($30000 drive out on an EXL) and am wondering what I should do with regard to the new engine. Do I go to the dealer and buy the vehicle and limp it home in accordance with most of the "break in" advice I've read (500-1000 mile at varying speeds) or forgo the deal in fear of destroying my new (and expensive) engine and buy closer to home. I haven't found any official Honda literature on the matter and have been hesitant to ask a salesman of any stripe for fear of their influencing my decision in their favor.
Thoughts? Advice? Experience?
Thanks in advance from a future paranoid Pilot owner.
Ken
I was told that for the 'break in' period, you are to avoid fast starts and hard fast breaking. I will have to travel home close to 500 miles. They said as long as I got going from a stopped position easily without a "jack rabbit" start and allowed plenty of stopping time so I wasn't slamming on the brakes, that the Pilot would be just fine.
I hope so. I go get it this week!

I almost purchased the Toyota Highlander Limited which would have cost $1000 more (best deal I could find). My wife and I were just had to decide on the color. On the way home from the 3rd and last HL test drive, I decided that I really should look at the Pilot. Lucky I did.
It is much more vehicle for the money. The ride is superior to the Highlander. The Engine/Transmission performance was much smoother and quieter than the HL. More interior space. Much less road noise than the HL.
In every important category except one (the HL has a more "luxurious" interior), the Pilot wins, hands down.
One that concerned me was the larger size of the Pilot over the HL: our previous vehicle was the Toyota Rav4. My wife drove the Pilot and she said it would be OK. One month later, the size concern has vanished.
Buy a Pilot.

Brian125, Atalalay, my3kids ... thanks for your posting ... do you know where in Ohio people are buying for invoice price or just a little over it? I am in Atlanta and looking for a good deal here but so far unsuccessful.
I am in the market for Pilot EX-L.
Could u please, give the dealer name where u got 2.9% and 1,800 below MSRP on ur New Honda Pilot.
Thx
