    hi all,

I need help with buying Honda Pilot EX-L or EX-L/NAV. I have been searching on the net for a while, but kind confused about what you are getting on either cars (sunroof...fog light etc), except all the things already installed in the car, are there something that if we ask we can get them for free?
Most important thing is the price. I went to a few dealerships and they didn't want to lower down the price, and I also found out that there all had different MSRP and INVOICE, and they were all higher than they should. Sometimes, the final price you were paying maybe sound good, like "I paid 1000 over invoice." but what is the invoice you get?
Also, how is NAV system? The dealerships I went to can't tell me how they work? does it work?
This is my first car, and I like this car, I am hoping to get this car within 2 Weeks, can anyone help me out? Any opinion will help, Thank you very much for your time.

Mandy, it gets complicated. When the day is done, the best price you can get is what YOU are able to negotiate and it takes some savy, nerves, and a lot of homework to take everyone's experiences on a forum like this and distill what you are likely to get in your area. And supply/demand changes the picture from week to week.

You'll see a lot of people with some screaming deals, but with further investigation, you may find that the deals included a trade-in or didn't account for all the fees charged. This muddies the picture.

If you're not savy in this area, I'd suggest you go for one of the non-negotiated fixed price services like Costco or your local credit union. They will not likely get you the very best price, but they'll get you reasonably close and unless you really are "into it", you probably won't do as well.

    Good luck,

    - Mark

    Hi Mandy,
Get a printout of the Edmund's TMV & Invoice price of the model you want ie EX-L and go to the dealer .Get him to come as close to the Invoice as possible.
If he refuses ,WALK-OUT and shop around.

    p.s: Invoice for EXL-NAV is $30,058.

Pilotbuy or any other califonia buyers:

I think we are going to pull the trigger on an EX-L Nav tomorrow. I'm trying to hold out for $1000 over invoice but will likely cave at $1500. After the $490 charge and taxes, what did your other costs total (i.e. title, registration, etc.) We have gone around and around with the dealer and I don't want them to add some secret or "mandatory" charge. Thanks.

    markyv,

I would greatly appreciate if you could please post the TTL fee on top of 27,700 that the dealer charged along with your sales rep's name(&number). If I were to go with them, I will give your name so that you can get some referral fee as well:). Alternatively, you can send me an email by looking up address in my profile. Thank you in advance.

I've been having a hard time finding a used Pilot with under 30,000 miles for a good price. I found one for $25k (LX w/ leather), and some folks are going nuts that it's a bad price. I'm not saying that it's the best, however, I'm trying to save $ and finance as little as possible. I've never had a car payment before, and hadn't planned on one...so I'd like to minimize it. Just venting really...
  • qbrozenqbrozen Member Posts: 33,785
like i said, adam, you may want to look at the final monthly payment. i believe you will find that the lower finance cost associated with a NEW vehicle can come pretty close to offsetting that little lower purchase price. I do apologize, however, that this advice made you feel you needed to "vent."
    good luck with your decision.

no apology needed....thanks for the tips. I will certainly look at what our final out of pocket cost would be financing a little on a used Pilot vs. financing a little more on a new one. Thanks again.

I paid 28860 (which included Destination charge of 490$) + 8.25% tax and 248$ DMV fees which amounted to 31537$ out of the door. I did not get any accessories as I found them to be cheaper on line. Hope it helps

I learned about Mike Pruitt Honda of Akron,OH on this site. I contacted the Internet salesperson and was quoted invoice $29,608 without a trade in.She delivered my new Pilot EX-L RES to my house 40 miles away and took my 1998 CRV for a trade in. What great at the best possible price. Thank you Edmunds!

I just got a price quote for 2004 Pilot. The dealer is in RI. The price is better than in MA. Any suggestion?

    EX-L with DVD - $30,900
    EX-L with nav - $31,400

Both prices are included the dest. fee. And both vehicles come with cargo tray, mudguards and wheel locks. And tax, title, registration are extra. The document fee is $50.

    Thanks.

Sorry in advance for this long post but I hope sharing my experience may help some other Bay Area buyers. If you care about the price and dealer only, it’s in the first paragraph.

We purchased a Pilot EXL-Nav for $30,500 (actually $30,625 because the wheel locks were already on the vehicle and we decided to take them). TTL amounted to $33,600 total. The dealer was El Cerrito Honda.

No doubt swayed by those ads with Jerry Brown telling residents to buy in Oakland, we went to the dealer here. Big Mistake. The dealer had the exact car we wanted on the lot and after my wife test drove it, we were ready to talk real numbers. We offered $30,500 and they countered with $31,000. We walked out because I wanted to check other dealers to get their prices.

However, getting home and looking at the TMV ($32,000), I called the dealer back the next day and asked whether the $31,000 stood. The salesperson said the dealer never gave me a $31,000 quote but wanted us to come down and “we can give you a good deal.” I told them that I would come down only if he gave a number and hung up. They called back with a $31,500 offer.

My next call was to El Cerrito Honda. I called the saleperson I had met during one of my many test drives, made a $30,500 offer and told her I was coming in that day. She returned my call an hour later, met my price and we bought it. El Cerrito was nothing but professional and played absolutely no games

Moral of the story is to be ready to walk out and only deal with folks who treat you professionally. While I got a fantastic deal (for the bay area), I probably would have paid at least $1,000 more at the El Cerrito dealer because it still would have been under TMV and I was treated well.

A side note on internet quotes. The closest Bay Area internet quote I got was $1,800 more than what we paid. We also got quotes from LA and the closest there was $1,300 more than what we paid. My personal experience was that I did better negotiating directly with the dealer. Huge hassle but was worth it here.

Sounds like you have a good deal in west coast. $1960 off (plus $299 worth of accessaries) is the best in the east (RI). Many in MA are talking about no more than $1000 off MSRP. You are paying at dealer's invoice. And they still make hundreds with 3% holdback.

according to sticker does not look like any other options really available, anyone have any recent buying experiences with dealerships around here?

is there a way to look at deals in Massachusetts without looking at all 2500 or so posts?

some type of search on this board, thanks

Do you mean EX with RES or EX-L with RES? I think Honda has a limited number of EX (cloth) with RES not long ago and with a special lease promotion. For EX-L with RES, I have quoted $31660 with dest. fee from Honda Car of Boston. It seems $1000 off MSRP is the best I can get in Boston area. Further south in RI, I have $30900 for EX-L with RES (dealer's invoice). How are you doing so far?

I am looking to buy the ex with leather and possibly the entertainment package thanks

Well, the discount rate that I got is from $1000 to $1800 for EX-L w/RES within New England region. My brother is doing research on Pilot, possible 2005 model with sunroof, a Touring edition. It should come out in October.

I think it's a good price for NJ. You can use this to negotiate with other dealers. I will be buying the EXL with Navigation in a month time frame. Also find the out of the door price from DCH (including TTL etc)

I am considering buying a 2004 Honda Pilot. Does anyone have any information or experience with Honda offering financing specials in the fall? I am hoping they will be offering some this fall when the 2005 models are about to be introduced. Does anyone know if that is a reasonable expectation? Thanks.

Today I closed the deal on a 2004 EXL with Autosport honda on Route 22 near the bridgewater mall. They were awesome. No haggling.

I walked in with the quotes listed below, all of which I received via email. I used Autobytel to request all of these quotes, 3 at a time through their system. I kept hitting the "back" button in my browser and clicking the next 3 dealers from the list. I also had the send their quotes to an email address I reserve for junk email like these.

I took a test drive and then showed them the quotes. I'd placed the quotes in an excel spreadsheet which calculated delivery and tax on top of all of these numbers.

I asked where their price would fall in this list and they said they could go to invoice + $600 which did not beat the Yonkers deal but was good enough for me (I live about 2 hours from Yonkers and had no intention of buying there).

So I ended up with $28,370 + delivery ($490) and tax, title and license. Total was $30,829.

    How'd I do?

ALL NUMBERS BELOW EXCLUDE TAX AND DELIVERY.
    -------EX with Leather-----------------
    Yonkers Honda $28,261
    Autosport Rt22 in person $28,370
DCH Academy Honda, Old Bridge, NJ $28,453

    Madison Honda, NJ $29,000
    Courtney Honda Connecticut $29,021
    Honda of Nanuet $29,070
    Keenan Honda, Doylestown PA $29,070
    Mike Piazza Honda $29,070
    Greenwich Honda $29,226
    Honda of Turnersville, NJ $29,261
    LeHigh Valley Honda, NJ $29,361
    OpenRoad $29,560
    Sussex Honda $29,950
Autosport Rt22 via the Internet $30,110
    CarsDirect $30,260
    P.S. Honda, Manhasset $30,360
    Honda of Essex $30,360
    Planet Honda, NJ $30,560
    Friendly Honda, Poughkeepsie $30,660
    Honda of Watertown, CT $30,710

    Yonkers Honda $27,083
DCH Academy Honda, Old Bridge, NJ $27,229
    brewster Honda $27,313
    Greensburg in PA $27,700
    Courtney Honda Connecticut $27,763
    Honda of Turnersville, NJ $28,003
    OpenRoad $28,160
    Mike Piazza Honda $28,302
    Autosport Rt22 Internet $28,710

    Madison Honda, NJ $29,000
    Planet Honda, NJ $29,160
    Friendly Honda, Poughkeepsie $29,260
    Honda of Watertown, CT $29,310
    -==================================-

I hope this info and these numbers will help someone find a good deal.

As I waited in the dealership today I noticed 2 seperate couples haggling on an Pilots with prices being discussed well above $31,000. I felt like slipping them a copy of my print-out.

One more thing: Notice on the internet quote, the dealer quoted Autosport Rt22 via the Internet $30,110
This quote came AFTER I'd visited that same dealership and gotten the $28,370 price. Amazing stuff.

As for financing, honda offered 5.05% for 24 to 60 months.
Wells Fargo gave me 4.45% for 48-60 months.
Honda today told me they'll give me 4.25% for 24 to 60 months.
I'll decide what to do when I take delivery.

I have recently put down a deposit(refundable) for 04 EX-L(Denver, CO). The price I will be paying will be $29360(includes dest charge and dealer handling costs). Please let me know what you think about this price, am I paying too much or any other leads. Appreciate your takes on it.

I got a quote of $30,900 (dest. fee included) for EX-L w/RES. They can definitely sell one EX-L under $30K with dest. fee. My dealer has one of each EX-L w/RES and EX-L w/NAV in stock. There are not much inventory.

Read something at honda-pilot.org forum that some dealers are willing to sell 2004 Pilot at the invoice price. Does that mean 2005 Pilot is coming very soon?

2005 are expected to have all the gremlins, licked (hopefully).I would not be surprised if the 2004 should be available below invoice.,irrespective of the expected howl of protest to this post, here from 'isell*****' :-))

I'm a new poster. I've been lurking here for a few weeks and appreciate all the info everyone is sharing.

Did Honda offer any kind of rebates for the Pilot at the end of the 2003 model year? Does anyone think they might do it this year? I'm thinking seriously about pulling the trigger on buying one right now, but was wondering if waiting a month might save me some money.
  • qbrozenqbrozen Member Posts: 33,785
nope. no rebates last year and I'd be absolutely shocked to see any this year.

Thanks. That's what I thought. I know Honda doesn't usually offer much if anything in the way of rebates. They seem to go more the way of leasing and financing deals if anything.

What is the name of the dealership? What color did you settle on?
  • gadawg14gadawg14 Member Posts: 3
I'm not too concerned with availability running out. What's the worst that can happen? I have to buy an '05 instead? Or I don't go into debt for 30K? If the right car is there and the deal is right, I'll buy it. Dealers seem to be pretty willing to deal with "availability dwindling". So far I am at about $27,800 which includes destination and doc fees for an EX with cloth interior. May not be the best deal out there, but I feel like it's getting into the reasonable range.

    carp32, You're quite welcome for post #2556.

Does anyone know what the current "Honda Clearance" will bring? I checked clearance.honda.com but there's nothing there really except lease deals.

I'd be interested if anyone's seeing lowered prices based on the clearance event.
