Well, it sounds like the Pilot is shot down on a bunch of different reasons. Too bad, because Hondas are so reliable and all.

Wishing for the day when Honda makes a truck and an SUV. Think ARMADA/TITAN or TUNDRA/LAND-CRUISER type of truck. Full ladder, solid axles, beefy motor and transmission with all that sweet Honda quality.

Is it reasonable to expect less than invoice on the 2004 pilot ex-l when/just before the 2005 models come out?
  • jm2257jm2257 Member Posts: 8
    hello

i have been following this forum for a few days and i must say it has been extremely helpful.

i did get a quote from Mike Pruitt honda for $300 below invoice for the EX and EX-L. I guess the '05 must be coming soon.

has anyone else heard of below invoice pricing ?
  • jm2257jm2257 Member Posts: 8
Could someone please tell me what the difference is when buying from out of state. I have a couple of good quotes from IL and OH. However I am a bit apprehensive as I am not familiar with after sales procedures.

    Patrickl:

Have you checked with Carr's Honda? I purchased an EX-L for just over invoice ($28,802 out the door with mud guards, roof rack/crossbars). The internet sales manager is wonderful to work with...so pressure on anything more than you want. Feel free to email me with any other questions. I posted my experience, which was back in early June. I am in the STL area and found, after 15 or so requests, that Carr's was the best around.
  • annaanna Member Posts: 27
I purchased back in June, out of state. The only difference was that you pay taxes where you live, not where you purchase. I had an excellent experience with Carr's Honda, as you can check back in early June when I posted. I will purchase over the internet in the future.

What Dealer you got this deal from ?
  • neednewcar1neednewcar1 Member Posts: 7
Got the same quote on 8/14. So far they're the only ones I can get at that pricing that I've found, but in my case would need to tack on $325 to get it from OH to NJ.
  • nac03nac03 Member Posts: 4
I agree with you. This forum has been really helpful. I have learned so much. I just emailed Mike Pruitt HOnda in Akron, Ohio 2 days ago and they also quoted me $300 BELOW invoice for the EXL with the entertainment system. Needless to say I called other dealers in the Pittsburgh area and they could not offer me anything near that quote. I will be picking up my Pilot in 2 weeks. The 2 hour drive is worth it!! They were so easy to work with, no haggling, no pressure. I frankly thought it was too good to be true!!!

Just wondering if any readers have had luck finding at-or near- invoice deals on Pilot EX-L's (with or without DVD/NAV) in CT or anywhere in Southern New England? I live in CT., would like to buy an EXL by end of this month(August). Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.
  • piloteerpiloteer Member Posts: 20
Picked up an EX-L with DVD on July 28 2004 @ DCH Academy Honda in NJ for 30,100 The dealer would not let it go for 30k even. Even though I paid 500 over invoice I felt it was a good deal in the NJ area. They offerd me 4,200 on my 1997 CRV I was thinking about trading it in which I thought was ridiculous. I sold it for 6,100 the next day. I wanted to add some accessories but had it done at Bradfon Honda in CT. They were having a sale on accessories and their labor prices was a lot better. Really wanted a SUV with a moonroof, but i am not willing to pay the MSRP or higher for the 2005 models.

Has any one bought the Pilot LX model in Cleveland Ohio for at invoice or close to Invoice. Any help with Dealership name would be greatly appreciated.
  • nac03nac03 Member Posts: 4
Try Mike Pruitt Honda in Akron, Ohio. They are quoting BELOW invoice prices. I just bought an EXL with DVD for $300 below invoice. I did this all online. So easy. Nobody could even come close to this price. Good luck.
  • piloteerpiloteer Member Posts: 20
you got a great price at the time you bought it. I paid 30,100 in NJ at about the same time you bought yours. did you get the color of your choice?
  • j2thomasj2thomas Member Posts: 25
6 months ago I bought an LX from Mike Pruitt in Akron, $400 over invoice and the deal was 100% painless. I've purchased ~10 new cars in the past 20 years and this was by far the easiest. I even drove 8 hours to do the deal.
  • j2thomasj2thomas Member Posts: 25
I spent about an hour getting my car registered, (and new plates), titled and inspected in NY state after I did the purchase from MP in OH. I also had to pay NYS sales tax, (no sales tax in OH). The deal was very smooth, in and out in under an hour. If the local dealers don't wake up, I'll be buying all my cars out of state.
  • jm2257jm2257 Member Posts: 8
Thanks for your response. Could you please tell how after sales service would work in such a case. And assuming worst case scenario, if there is a problem with the car, does it need to to be taken back to the out of state dealer ? Or will any honda dealer recognize the company warranty ?
  • vladlvladl Member Posts: 7
Wow, what a pleasant people over there, no preasure at all, awesome treatment. Price of course was worked out by a phone prior to coming. Had to drive just 30 miles instead of 440 miles to Mike Pruitt and basically ended up with break even of all expenses related to the lease and transportation to the dealership.
  • vladlvladl Member Posts: 7
I believe, Honda pays dealerships for any warranty repairs, so it does not matter which authorized dealership you gonna bring your car in.
  • tidestertidester Member Posts: 10,059
But how much did you PAY? :-)

    tidester, host
  • vladlvladl Member Posts: 7
~$405/month for 3years/45k miles lease and $625 at signing (which includes first month payment).
  • rk04rk04 Member Posts: 2
What dealer you made this deal with ?
  • vladlvladl Member Posts: 7
"#2658 of 2662 Signed lease for EX-L @ Wilis in Burilington, NJ by vladl Aug 21, 2004 (9:55 pm) "

I have a quote of $30,400 (with dest. fee) for the EX-L with DVD. My dealer first offered $30,900 about a month ago. What do you guys think? Is the sport package only for LX? What is the price for the sport package?
  • piloteerpiloteer Member Posts: 20
What is the sport package for the EX-L with DVD??
What area are you in. I think at this time with model year end you can probrably do better depending on your area.
  • lok888lok888 Member Posts: 1,788
I am helping my brother who lives in RI to get his Pilot EX-L with DVD. He mentioned Sport Package from Honda website. I am not sure if this is for LX or EX only, not EX-L. All he wants are optional foglights and cross bars. He thought he may save some money for the package. I think they will cost big money and Honda don't offer them as standard like many SUVs. Maybe the '05 model. Any suggestion for Honda Care extended warranty? Price? I was trying to get $30000 even for the car. The dealer has to allocate the car within days, only one in stock and no his color of choice. Is it going to hurt for more price drop? Thanks!
  • piloteerpiloteer Member Posts: 20
I don't know what the pricing is like in RI. I bought an EXL with DVD last month in NJ for 30,100, the dealer would not let if go for 30K at all. I've seen some people write in this forum that a dealer in Ohio is selling EXL with DVD for 300 below invoice (about 29300) an excellent price. So it depends on the area how aggressive the dealers are willing to sell. Fog lights and cross bars are strictly add ons by the dealer. For the 2004 year their is no package for the EXL for those options. It seems like the dealer your dealing with won't budge much since its his last one and he can probably get his price. You might try calling around to get quotes and even travel a little bit if the savings is worth it.
  • lok888lok888 Member Posts: 1,788
I have few more questions on your Pilot if you don't mind. Is the EX-L with DVD come with wireless headphones? Can it play DVD+R or DVD-R disc? I also plan to purchase the cross bars. The instruction seems easy and I may DIY. But it seems you can only position the cross bars at one point. And I will leave the foglights option up to the dealer.

I am getting some responses that they can do it for $29998.00 for EX-L with DVD with no option. I have to find out what option are they talking about.
  • piloteerpiloteer Member Posts: 20
Yes, they come with two pairs of wireless head phones. I haven't even tried any write able DVDs yet, but I think in the manual it list the types of formats it can play. I'll check it out. As far a mounting the cross bars your self, you would have too much money burning a hole in your pocket if you would even think of letter the dealer charge you to do it. I don't have the cross bars myself, but it would be unimaginable to think you can't slide them along the rails to adjust them as needed. The fog lights is a different matter, that takes some work. Removing the bumper cutting the holes and the electrical work. I think that should be left to somebody who knows how to do it correctly. That last price you're getting is pretty good if thats including destination and when they say no options, I think they mean no add ons. Because the EXL comes without options from the manufacturer. Did you shop aroud and do they have the color you want?
  • lok888lok888 Member Posts: 1,788
I looked at the installation instruction for cross bars online. You just remove the end caps and slide the holders and cross bars and close the end caps. For foglights, they need to charge 6 hours labor. Too bad they come with EX-L. Oh! I think $29609 is the dealer invoice. So I am like $300 over the dealer's invoice.
  • piloteerpiloteer Member Posts: 20
That's not a bad price for EXL with DVD. But I think you need to shop around for the installation of the fog lights. I can't believe it takes 6 hours. Call different Honda dealers and check their prices. It might be cheaper if you buy the fog lights from the link on top of this page and find a dealer to do the work only. At 80 to 100 per hour, 6 hours of work is crazy.
  • irvsteroniirvsteroni Member Posts: 56
I intend to purchase the EXL model (no DVD-I can get a 12" screen at Bestbuy for the price of the honda I-VES system) with most if not all the options: Window Visors, Foglights, Lower Trim (bumper), Chrome mirror covers, running boards, 1/2 bra, chrome trim @rear and front, exhaust finisher, gold H emblems, and 16" alloy wheels. The price I've calculated is based on edmunds.com invoice + 5%, + cost of add-ons that I've seen on Honda accessory website (I have not added for labor figuring that should be included). This is $31,600.00 + TTL. Any thoughts. Anyone think I should go LOWER or perhaps I'm asking for too much. Thanks.

Thanks Edmunds for all the valuable information I needed to close this deal. The internet pricing service was very helpful. I ended up working with New Rochelle Honda, New Rochelle, NY. One minor issue came up at delivery - a scratch on the door panel - dealer promised in writing to fix it. So, I'll wait and see how it gets resolved.

There are other Honda dealers in the NYC area willing to go down to invoice, but I chose New Rochelle because I liked their internet salesperson.

Happy hunting to all you soon-to-be Pilot owners!

Researched on Edmunds and contacted Mike Pruitt (MP) online last Friday and got a quote back for $300 BELOW invoice for an EXL-RES.

My wife and I went and test drove a Pilot locally in NJ (Honda of Princeton) on Saturday. Liked it and tried to get a similar deal from them. The local dealer said they had too much demand for the Pilot and could not sell at close to invoice -was quoted $1100 ABOVE invoice and all options were more expensive that MP.

Ordered the Pilot from MP on Saturday and it is on a truck being delivered to me right now. I decided to use the dealer transport as opposed to a 3rd party which they also gave to me as an option. The dealer mode of delivery was more expensive but this way I dont have to worry about any problems onroute and the vehicle is delivered in showroom condition.

The Pilot will be here in less than an hour - 1:30am (yep, in the middle of the night!) Since I couldn't be here in the morning for work reasons so they are delivering it late at night.

The sales rep I dealt with at Mike Pruitt was extremely professional and followed up with all the details promptly. There was no haggling and so far no surprises. We will sign for the Pilot when it arrives and give them a check and take possession.

Will provide another update once the transaction is complete and we have taken possession of our new Pilot.

Thanks to all the folks on this Forum for making it easier for us to get a good deal.

You are correct, NJ dealers are not so willing to sell at below invoice for the Pilot. I bought the EXL with DVD last month from Academy Honda in Old Bridge and when I offered invoice they said demand is just too high even for the 2004's. When I was there shopping I saw no less than 3 Pilots being picked up. The best they could do was 30,100 including destination and I counter offered for 30K even, and they would not budge. I considered looking out of NJ but weighed the pros and cons. Academy was already as far out as I was will to go considering I was also interested in trading in my 1997 CRV. Just curious was the 300 below invoice offer including destination? How much was the delivery charge? Did it offset your savings by much?
  • lok888lok888 Member Posts: 1,788
My brother just want the car (EX-L with DVD) with no options. He can deal with the foglights later or maybe aftermarket stuffs. They want 6 labor hours ($80/hr) for the foglights. I talked with some other dealers for Odyssey before. They can sell it (foglight) for $500 (installed) since there are already an openings for the foglights which means less labor.
Anyway, he is OK with $29980 for the car. The dealer will allocate the car within days.

doesn't sounds like a good deal, I have a deal for Pilot EXL for $3,000 and $283 a month which include the TTL
  • polypoly Member Posts: 14
    p.s. it's a lease for 36 month with 15K/year
  • inverness1inverness1 Member Posts: 5
To both Vladl and Poly - what price to get you get the Pilot for? That, your money factor and the residual on your leased vehicle are more meaningful than just what your monthly payments are. Poly, of course, your monthlypayment is going to be less than Vladl's 'cause you put $3000 up front.
  • polypoly Member Posts: 14
Why does it matter? if I only want to lease for 36 month? Isn't it a good deal? it's like $366/month including everything... when I will get to the end of the leasing period, I will negotiate a good deal to buy it...
  • neednewcar1neednewcar1 Member Posts: 7
    $28,500 for a 2004 EX-L
  • vladlvladl Member Posts: 7
    sale price was 28,360
    residual 18,816
    money factor 0.00218
    turn-in fee $0

Poly, where did you sign your lease?
  • vladlvladl Member Posts: 7
$3000 + $283 a month sounds too good to be true for 36mon/45K miles EXL.
  • nac03nac03 Member Posts: 4
I don't know where you are located, but I am from Pittsburgh and i just drove my new Pilot EXLwith DVD home last night from Mike Pruitt Honda in Akron Ohio. I got it for $29,300 which is $300 under invoice price. Although I have to pay taxes in PA. I got a great deal. They were wonderful to deal with. A great experience for me and I would recommend them to anyone. If you are not close to Akron they will ship it but at a cost of course. Nobody in Pgh would come close to their price. Good luck and give them a try.

I just purchased a Pilot Ex - Cloth from a dealer in Rockland NY. I paid $26,211 including the $515. destination charge. The dealer in Mahwah NJ was offering to give it to me for $26,111, but I prefered to stay within NY. I did shop around to numerous other dealers and found this to be the best price. I also noticed the Steel Blue is a hard color to find.
  • lok888lok888 Member Posts: 1,788
I am from MA. My brother got it (EX-L with DVD) for $29990 in RI (7% sale tax). He is going to pick it up Monday. It is not a best price like yours. But he is happy for under $30K. He got the same price from two dealers. But the second dealer gave more money on his trade-in. Then he settled the deal. BTW, no one in MA can match that price. They are still asking for low $31K.

I just picked up my Pilot on Saturday from Mike Pruitt in Akron, OH. I must say it was the by far the most pleasant car purchase I've ever made. I was able to get it for $27,960($300 below invoice) through the internet sales manager. I live in the D.C. area and the dealers in this area weren't willing to negoigiate to that level until you told them about the Mike Pruitt price. Then they would try to say anything to you to get you in the door. I stuck with buying it at Mike Pruitt and I'm glad I did. Very easy and pleasant to work with.
