A BMW sounds like it would be a good lease choice (as far as higher-priced brands) because of high residuals and having both warranty and full maintenance covered during the entire 40-45K miles I expect to drive in 3 years.
Do California dealers have mostly stock of 2007s or 2008s now? The 2007s have lower residuals, but I would imagine there would be some kind of incentive that would give a 2007 a lower lease payment than a 2008 or who would bother leasing a 2007?
In case I have to go with a 2008 to find one equipped the way I want, what are the current lease rates and residuals for a 328 automatic no navi for 36 months 15K miles per year? How much are the security deposits and how much of a break do you get for extra security deposits? What is the limit on max security deposits?
Is around $500 over invoice a realistic cap cost for a 2008 328 sedan automatic with premium package, metallic, comfort access, logic7 and cold weather/folding rear seat package? (I like the way Sport package looks, but I don't want the penalty of higher purchase price, hard ride and the extra cost of fast-wearing ultra expensive replacement tires)

From the previous posts, I've gleaned that you're all quite knowledgable with anything BMW.
Making my first BMW purchase this weekend in So.California, previously owned a cute Toyota Corolla and Ford Focus. Finally decided to upgrade to a 2006 325 i. Have seen a few out there...ranging from $28K to $34K with mileage in the 20-30K range. Only interested in CPO. Pretty much no additional options, except automatic transmission. I'm going to try and negotiate for $25.5K. Do you think this is reasonable? I really think $34K is ridiculous, considering you can get an '07 328i for that much. Any advice?
I was wondering if anyone opt for the European Delivery program with BMW, I think you save about 3k off the invoice. But I think the savings will be insufficient due to the FX rate, I just might end up paying more. I guess it can't really be considered a savings if I have to fly to Germany to pickup the car. Any thoughts, good deal or bad idea?

I'm contemplating ED & seriously considering working through an east coast dealer so as to get the car a month (or more) earlier than I would if I dealt with a local or SoCal dealer that would have to deal with a Pt. Hueneme delivery.
Texas is in the middle -- do they truck them from CA, truck them from NJ, or actually deliver them to Houston (or wherever)?
Now, if they come in on the West Coast, then you might shave off 7-10 days by getting an East Coast dealer.. But, then you'll have to fly up and get the car, then drive it back.. Wouldn't be worth it to me, to save a couple of weeks on re-delivery.. Have you seen the price of gas? :surprise:

It comes to $1500 over invoice. Dealer claims that $600 is advt. fee + dealer fee. Also they'll include carpet/mats.
1) from the forum it appears that most of them target $750 over invoice. This appears to be double - should I look at anything other than edmunds invoice?
2) Whats the best deal for basic 335xi to lease, say 12K, 36 months? 550/month + 2300 due at signining?
I bought a white 2006 325i with 4k miles on it premium + sport package for $34000 out the door (everything included).
The first month that I can see published rates for the '08 model is October, and that is .00235, just like November.
I can't say whether they mis-quoted you the '07 model rate in September, or maybe they had some info that I don't... But, as near as I can tell, there has never been an .0020 MF rate for the '08 335i coupe..

Here is the deal I got on the lease. Does this sound decent?
Original MSRP: $51,800
Price Paid: $41,800 (remeber it had 10,000 miles on it)
MF: .00210
Total due at signing: $2600 (1st month+sec+title+license+maco+training+ $1000 cap redcution)
Monthly Payment: $572 (including taxes)
I bought a 2006 330i about 4 months ago w/ 22,000 kms on it (approx. 13,500 miles). Fully loaded - everything except for Nav and the sport package. And came with a set of winter blizzak's on BMW rims, BMW assist and over half the warranty remaining.
$41,000 + tax.
While it was a steal compared to most used listings (autotrader ect). It is way more than you guys are "fortunate" enough to pay.
Regarding price, I have been quoted only $1000 of MSRP on the 08 coupe and $1000 over invoice on the 08 sedan. Is anyone doing better in So. Cal?
Suprisingly, my insurance company told me that they will cover no car with the 335i engine so that helped with my choice to go with 328i. Better call first!

With a small amount of work I found two dealers in the L.A. area willing to do $500 over invoice for a sedan. Note, though, that they included MACO and a training fee in their invoice, which totaled an extra $460, I think. So make sure you are clear on whether or not the invoice price includes those fees, so you are getting apples to apples comparisons.
I ended up buying from South Bay BMW.

Residual would be something like 65%, not .0018. The .0018 would be the money factor.
What is your sales tax rate in your area?
With this information, someone can tell you whether it is a good deal or not.

My MSRP was $49,870; invoice was $46,265 (inc. $200 MACO and $180 training fees). My final cost was $47,320. This works out to $1,055 over invoice, or $2,550 off MSRP.

Thanks for taking the time to read this and response. I am in the process of purchasing my first BMW. It's a 2001 330ci, black on black leather with power soft top, premium and sports packages and 74,000 miles. The interior and seats are in perfect condition. The exterior 4 minor flaws: needs valve cover gasket replaced, has 2 very small dents, has a ding in one wheel from a "curb check", and the BMW logo on the hood is peeling.
We have negotiated to $18,000. In addition they will fix the valve cover gasket and have the :confuse: door dings repaired prior to delivery. This is NOT being purchased through a BMW dealer.
1. Is this a good deal?
2. Any worries with not purchasing through BMW?
3. I read something on this site in the past about BMW's service program. Does a car this old with a secondary owner (not CPO) apply to this program, or am I on my own?
4. I also read something about BMW's extended warranty plan. Can this be purchased separately without the car and is it recommended?

i'm cross shopping the TL-S and 335. I have driven both and each has their pros/cons. you get more bang for the buck on a TL-S as you can get them for as low as $35k, and current MF at Acura is .00081. very attractive.
but while the TL is a nice car, and nicely equipped for that price, it's FWD, and nowhere near as fast as the 335. when i drove the 335 i loved it.
my question is - i can probably lease a TL-S with nothing down and pay only $450/month.
how close can I come to that on a similarly equipped 335 sedan?
what if I was willing to give up NAV, and only get a more modestly equipped car - steptronic, paddle shifters, sport, climate, but leave off NAV...
also - i'm figuring i'd spend at leas 1000 bucks on routine maintenance on the
TL over th life of the lease. the BMW would have that for free...so that's at least another 30-50/month in "saved" costs by going bmw.
basically, i'm wondering how close in price I can get a 335 compared to a TL-S. if it's going to be 100-150/month more for the bmw, i'd probably just get the TL. but if it's under 100 diff, I'd be tempted to splurge and get the bmw.

Equipped as you list it, the 335i sedan with limited options would MSRP at about $43,300 (no premium package, no metallic paint, no leather). You may or may not find such a car in your local regional inventory, so you may have to order the car equipped that way. If you get the internet managers at various dealers to compete for your business, you should be able to get close to $2,000 off of that, putting you at about $41,000 before fees. Residuals are 61% for 3 yrs, and base money factor is .0020. Dealers will add to the cap cost a bank fee, "MACO" and training fees totaling close to $1,000 unless you can negotiate them down, and you'll have to pay one month's security deposit or your money factor will go up by .00015. This will put you at a 3 year lease of a bit more than $600 per month, depending on the miles per year. One way to reduce that is to pay multiple, refundable security deposits. You can pay up to 7 of these deposits, and each one will buy down your money factor by .00007.
Be aware that BMW 3 series comes only with run flat tires and no spare tire. Especially on sport package equipped cars, there is only one replacement tire and it is the oem Bridgestone that comes on the car. Tires on the sport package cars are high performance summer tires that will probably last only 15K miles, and it is likely that you will only find replacement tires in stock at BMW dealers, at close to $2,000 per set, installed, so factor that into your financial formula. Some people deal with this by removing the run flat tires before they wear out and replacing them with regular tires of the appropriate performance category, then plan to re-mount the run flats just before lease return. They also have to deal with the problem of having no spare... (vaious options exist).
They're both amazing cars, but very different. My son just got a low mileage used 2006 TL. It is very luxurious and roomy, and the interior and electronics are amazing. The BMW is far more of a sports machine, with incredible acceleration and fluid handling, but the interior of a lightly equipped 335 will not be nearly as luxurious as a TL. The cars are so different that they are really not in the same market segment. IMHO you really need to ask yourself what kind of car really appeals to you. Also take a look at the Infiniti G35 sedan. Performance close to the BWM, rear drive, better electronics at a much cheaper price. Not as roomy as a TL and I don't know what Infiniti lease rates are, but it is certainly a competitor.

Besides the RFT situation on the BMW, you're stuck with no dipstick & an oil sensing system that had a lot of initial problems (maybe they're fixed by now, but who knows?). Getting rid of the dipstick is the solution to a problem I certainly don't recognize.
yes - they are different cars. both are 4 door sedans, but one is more of a luxury car with *some* sportiness and the other is much more sporty (but still luxurious).
if $$ were not anobject I'd go 335. but i'm trying to be practical. practical is not always fun.
