What is your payment? Do you know what residual and money factor was used? I assume a 36 month lease. How many miles? Thanks in advance. Just got my first quote from a dealer. 36 months with 10,000 miles has a 64% residual and .0020 money factor.

I am looking for a bmw with very basic stuff, except for an automatic transmission. One dealer offers $32895. Is that a reasonable deal. According to edmunds:
    MSRP is 34450
    Invoice is 31795

    Any input is appreciated. Thanks!

I assume that you're talking about a 328i sedan. Is this a 2007 or a 2008 car? If a 2007, you should be able to get more of a discount. Even if it's a 2008, shoot for at least $2,000 off MSRP.
  • jamesbeyondjamesbeyond Member Posts: 5
Thanks for the reply! It's 2008 328i. I will see if I can get 2000 off.

Follow-up: I made the purchased of this '08 328i (MSRP is 34450 Invoice is 31795 ) at $32600+tax+registration fee blahbah. The out of door price is $35450. I know I not a good negotiator... But I really love this car!

    I live in south cal.

Sounds like a pretty good deal. Don't beat yourself up. Enjoy your new car!

Which dealer, if you don't mind sharing. I'm in So Cal also.

    I have a 36 mo/12K mile lease. Residual is 63%. MF is .00215. Payment is $542.
  • jackalsjackals Member Posts: 38
Thanks for following up. Wow! That's a great payment. I would love to get a similar deal from a dealership in NJ or PA. Do you remember how much out of pocket you paid? Also, what is the sales tax in Va? Do you know if Va requires the tax to be paid up front like NJ?
  • jamesbeyondjamesbeyond Member Posts: 5
The tax here (south California) is 7.75%.
The loan is 3.9% from BMW.

Hi Bimmers, shopped at couple of dealers to place an order for 335i convertible. The price with options - cold weather pack, premium package, ipod adapter, navigation system, comfort access - comes out to 56,450 - 2 dealers in Chicago Knauz and Elmhurst BMW offered 2500 off the MSRP and will throw in floor mats.. The car will be delivered in 8 weeks. Is this a good price? I have been reading on the fourms that some delaers dont budge in on MSRP at all and some add extra on the MSRP. With that 2500 off MSRP seems like a bargain.. is there a catch? Any advice?
    Thanks

$2500 off sticker on a 335i Convertible seems like a great deal. Maybe they're slow and looking to move units during the winter :confuse: According to my dealer (when I picked up my wife's '07 X3 in July), they sell the convertibles at sticker and not a penny less. The convertible/luxury/sports car market here in NY is different. Septembet through December are when you get the best deals. January is when the stock brokers get their bonuses so the luxury/convertible/sports car market heats up early here.

Beginning the process of shopping for a 328i/335i convertible (have yet to drive either) and wanted to know if anyone might be able to clue me in on what to expect on pricing, lease programs (including residuals and money factors). I'm located in Orange County, CA. Thanks.

Go to the leasing forum at the following link for lease information:

    http://townhall-talk.edmunds.com/WebX/?displayRecent@@.ef9d9c7

Residuals and money factors for 2008 3 series convertibles for 2 and 3 year leases are as follows:

    328i: MF .00295, residual 2 yr = 73%, 3yr = 61%
    335i: MF .00295, residual 2 yr = 69%, 3yr = 59%

I'm also in the OC and I found a good deal on a 328i coupe at Brecht in Escondido. They seemed eager to lure business south from the OC. Contact the internet mgr Chino Torres.

    Enjoy your search.

Well after driving everything out there this is what I want...

But anyone able to get $3K off in the Boston area recently? The cars are plentiful but the dealers are looking for $1K+ over invoice even at year end.

This car with the sports seats is very nice. Glued to the road with perfect steering feel.
  • shmopsishmopsi Member Posts: 2
Thanks much for the information. Might you also have the MF's and residuals for the 328i and 335i Coupes as well?

Bought a '08 328i convertible, red, auto is the only option in Myrtle Beach, SC for $43,250plus taxes. I think the MSRP was 45,250. Couldnt bring any further down as it was the only car that I could find in the near by location. Each dealer gets 2/3 cars on the 3 series covertible. This model doesnt qualify for 3.9 financing so got only 5.9%. dont know about leasing/residuals
Convertibles (hardtop) seems to b a hot ticket.

Wondering if the leasing experts on this forum can comment on the attached deal:

    - 328 xi.
    - $3,800 down.
    - 24 months.
    - 10,000 miles/year.
    - $269 / month.

    Thanks

a few dealerships in So Cal will match $300 over invoice easily.

I got my BMW 328i Monaco Blue with premium package at invoice price. It's hassle free purchase. It only took less than 3 hour before I drove home new Bimmer. :) They even took my trade-in for Edmunds TMV trade-in price.

which dealer if you don't mind... i've been offered about 700 over invoice (including destination and MACO) from a few local dealers; from southbay, long beach bmw.

Brecth BMW in escondido, CA. Ask for internet department. (can't say salesperson because of the rule) They'll sell BMW 328i ( in the lot ) at invoice price ( including destination fee). Just told them, a guy with wife and baby girl just bought the car last Saturday at invoice price. I don't think we have to pay MACO fee ( not in my invoice anyway). Pretty professional and easy to work with. My car was in detailing when we arrive ready to go. Everything is done over the phone and fax.

    3 year lease: residual 58%, MF .00190

    335i coupe:

    Hi Folks,

I'm planning on buying a new daily driver before the end of this year and was thinking of a Infiniti G35 sedan, but am now thinking of checking out the 328i sedan just to compare.

Here's exactly what I'm looking for:
    328i sedan
    Monaco / black
    Steptronic transmission
    MSRP (including destination)=$34925
    Invoice (including destination)=$32225
    TMV (including destination)=$34043

That's it, I'm looking for essentially the cheapest 328i possible (plus automatic and metallic paint).

I live in the Bay Area, CA area. I'm willing to drive up to two hours away to get the car for the right price.

    So my questions:
    1) Will it be difficult to find the car I've described in stock (without all the extra usual options that are shipped with most cars)?
    2) What can I expect to pay for this? The max I'm willing to spend is $32800 ($575 over invoice)...does this sound doable with the dealerships within a 2 hour driving radius around the Bay Area, CA?

Thanks in advance for reading this and for any responses.

nacho, I've now had the car a little over 2 months and it's fantastic! At first I was concerned about going smaller (I owned a 2003 525i), but the interior of the new 3 is almost the same size. My 5 had the premium and sport package, but I don't miss having the sport package on the new 3. I think the car handles beautifully and the acceleration is more than ample. I decided not to go with the 335, which was like a rocket ship. The 328i especially in sports mode is more than quick and the car handles like a dream. I'm so glad I decided to get another BMW (my third). I almost, almost switched to a G35 or Acura TL, but they just didn't have the refinement of the BMW. Yes, they had more horsepower, but they did not handle as well and their 6 cylinders were just not as buttery smooth as the Bimmer.

if you haven't done so already, I highly suggest you make your own comparison and drive all three cars, and then drive the 328 vs. 335. If you want the quickest and best one in the lot, I would go with the 335. But if you're looking for refinement, great handling and more than ample acceleration, you can't go wrong with the 328.

    I hope this helps.

I think it's pretty easy to find Monaco or Black color on 328i. Many dealers will stock common color and both color are common. Although many dealers will stock extra items. I recently saw Monaco with steptronic tranny but we chose Monaco with premium package.

$575 over invoice is very doable. Costco, Sams Club or AAA program will get you $500 over invoice. I just purchase 2008 BMW 328i at invoice price.

I suggest you to email few dealerships via Edmunds and they'll call you. I think this is the best time to buy since dealers want to clear their inventory.

    good luck.

Arctic metallic, beige leather, cold weather package
Premium pkg., AWD, STEPTRONIC, comfort, PDC

    MSRP incl. destination $ 47575; price $ 44880, or +$ 500 over wholesale, $2695 under MSRP.
    36 mo. 10000 miles/yr. .02 MF, 64% residual; $ 600 sec. deposit to bring MF to .02.locked for 90 days, with lower MF if available prior to delivery. $ 597.05/mo.;
I calculate a penny less per month.

I am not inclined to spend $ 950 for 6CD changer in the center console; it's not available in the dash--rats! Every one of my recent cars has had a 6-CD changer in dash. kyfdyx, car man or boomer23, what do you think?

    Just got my 328i sedan.

    Jet Black paint, automatic.

    No other options.

    $205 over invoice.

Thanks folks, this is a very useful resource to get an idea of what to expect.
  • ericlau01ericlau01 Member Posts: 15
I also picked up an '08 328i sedan today.

White, automatic with only Sports package, Xenon, BMW assist. Didn't need other things as it will be my commute car.

    Dealership- San Francisco BMW.

It was a 6 hr process as I had a trade in. Lessons learn- be careful how they try to juggle the numbers of your trade in with your counter offer of the car. They tried to do a balancing act with your offer.

Overall, $2000 off MSRP or $600 over invoice. It seems that they have more selections, from barebone to moderately to fully loaded BMWs with a variety of colors.

Final note, I ended the deal with them throwing in the all season floor mats and trunk tray. Forgot to add in the wheel locks.

Future buyers- make sure you end the deal with these items!!!!

Looks like a good deal to me. I did check it out on my lease spreadsheet and it looks about right. Remember, I'm not an expert like car man, just another user with about a month's more shopping experience than you and access to a couple of other web sites. That said, you got a great discount and you're doing all of the right things such as security deposit to get the lowest MF.

I assume that you're paying the inception fees, such as MACO, training, etc outside of the lease. What is your total drive-off expense?

As far as expensive options, you'll find that you'll pay about $30 a month more for every $1,000 in options that you add. Do the math and you'll realize the alarming fact that you're paying for the option FULLY in your three year lease. So you'll pay $1,080 for that $1,000 cd changer over the life of the lease, then the dealer gets the car back with the changer that you bought. Kind of disgusting, huh?
  • ursamajorursamajor Member Posts: 127
    The printed quote:
    Drive-off of $ 2284.07, consisting of:
    Security $ 600
    Doc fee 45
    Bank fee 625
    1st month $ 597.05
    License fee (CA) $ 361.75

The price (cap cost) detail includes MACO and Training of $ 560, and the destination charge of 775, so those are included in the discounted cap cost of $ 44380, which is $ 500 under the cap. cost full total of $44880. MSRP is 47575.

Therefore, those costs are being financed at 4.8% APR (2400 x .002)

My remaining gripe is that I will not want to lose the use of a center console for any reason, and that the cost of the 6-CD changer is acceptable, but it's dangerous to play one CD at a time on long trips or when you want to switch music, and that is a really stupid marketing/design choice, to deny the customer something that Scion drivers get (and for that matter, any Japanese manufacturer provides); and let's not get started with run-flats. I still might change my mind and not take delivery unless the MF is lowered enough to compensate for the loss of the 6CD changer. I listen to music a great deal, but the inconvenience of not having adequate center console space is too much to tolerate for the life of the lease, or longer if I bought it for the $ 30K+ at the end of 36 months--not likely. BMW is selling a 335 "clean" diesel by mid-2008. If that could be driven with biofuel, under warranty, I would wait for it. I couldn't get any info from BMW North America on this vehicle, which debuts at the Detroit show Jan. 19th next month.

To my fellow recent BMW buyers, were you also offered a 6 yr / 100,000 miles maintenance package, which extends the standard 4 year/50,000 miles maintenance for another 2 years / 50,000.

They say that buying an extended contract of some sort is the dealer's last resort to making more money, but since it's a BMW and the higher cost of maintenance, tat it might worth considering.

The cost is $2400 or lump into financing.

Anyone out there that have bought this and assessed its value?

At this point in time, you can buy the extended maintenance package at any time, up until the original maintenance plan has expired. I think the list price for that package is under $1500.

So.. in this case, just skip it. If you decide you need it later, you can buy it from any BMW dealer.

    Thanks for the info.

I was quoted $2400 by the Finance Manager. So I google'd the info and the $1500 price was a few years ago.

May I ask if the $1500 is the current rate by other dealers? I found that I can walk into any BMW dealer to get this plan.

Any recent BMW buyers got this plan and what was the price?

  • kyfdxkyfdx Moderator Posts: 267,338
For the maintenance plan? Up until about a year ago, you could buy it for $995 on a 3-series..

It's more now, but certainly not over $1500..

Now, the extended warranty, that mimics the CPO plan is around $2500-$3000 depending on warranty.

OK, seems we have all the data for 'over invoice' price we should pay. But, my question is; what is the invoice price we are all comparing to? I recently bought a new Toyota Prius - wanted the gas mileage (50 miles per gal) - and I have a 1990 BMW 535i which is still in great shape. In that 'buying experience', there was always a question of the actual invoice price. My paperwork included a dealer holdback of $446 and something called Wholesale rebate for $223 - then there was an advertising fee - all to come up with the 'invioice price'. So, the total was what I would call invoice price was $X + 446 + $223. Is this how it's working with BMW's also? What is the base INVOICE price for a 325i. 2007 or 2008 - are we all using Edmunds to figure this price?

    Thanks

So the lease on my parents' 2005 530iA was up the day before X-Mas. I used Edmunds as a guide to determine its invoice when I took delivery of my '08 328i yesterday. It is realy subjective because its a BMW and that it went back and forth to get to $500 over Edmunds invoice.

Realistically, it would be hard to get to the BASE INVOICE because one would look foolish trying to get to that number for BMWs (i.e. a little to cover the overhead for the dealership, the rubber floor mats, splash guards, wheel locks, that one would negoitate to seal the deal).
  • treadstone71treadstone71 Member Posts: 4
The $205 I paid over invoice is "Edmunds Invoice".

If I included the advertising and service/training fees that the dealership tacked onto the "Dealership Invoice" price, then I paid $375 BELOW their invoice.

Does anyone know if the 2008 328i sedan's backseat folds down. The catalog indicated that it is standard, yet, I was unable to find the latch that allows it to fold down. Is it possible that the folding option is with the Cold Package and not as standard as indicated?
  • cdnpinheadcdnpinhead Member Posts: 5,620
The fold-down rear seat is definitely NOT standard. As you speculated, it is part of the cold weather package (along with heated seats & headlamp washers), or can be added as a stand-alone option for $475 list.

I am looking at getting a 2008 335i Coupe in Alpine White with black interior.
Options are: Steptronic, paddle shifters, comfort access, cold weather pkg, park distance control, premium pkg, sport pkg, nav system, satellite radio and the iPod adapter. MSRP is $51,295. I'm located on the central coast of Calif. I moved here about 6 months ago from upstate NY and the dealers are telling me that since I get bored with any vehicle after 2 years, that a lease would be better for me. Also in Calif, when you trade in a vehicle, you do not get the sales tax from the value of the trade applied towards the new car. So a lease sounds better in that regard. If I go with a lease, what would be the best deal I can get for the MF, etc.?
Also if anyone can suggest a good dealer near San Luis Obispo and up to 200 miles away, I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you

I'm down to the wire between a couple of cars, and the dealer here has one Barrique Red '07 328xi wagon. Only issue is seeing if my dog likes the back of it--it's much smaller than my current 04 XC70.

Options: Premium, STEP, Cold Weather, Xenon, Metallic

MSRP: 43275 (edmunds), Invoice (edmunds) 39860
    Selling Price: 40597 +tax
    36 Months Lease
    12K/year
    Residual: 62%
MF: .0019 (incl. a .001 reduction to MF from BMW)
    Price: $535.20 plus tax

This all expires tomorrow, so I'm going to be looking at it one last time after researching a car that I think is a great one, for sure. Hoping SIRIUS and iPod adapter can be added later...

Read as much as you can on the Leasing forum:

    http://townhall-talk.edmunds.com/WebX/.ef9d9c7?displayRecent

Your information on leasing and taxes in Calif is accurate. The December base money factor, also called the "buy rate" for the 335i coupe is .00235. January rates may go up a bit, if rumors are to be believed. That would be the lowest you can expect to pay, except for the effect of refundable security deposits ("SD", equal to one month's lease payment, raised to the closest $50). (Before security deposits, be prepared for the payment on the car that you describe to be over $700 a month.)

First of all, if you are a new BMW customer, you'll have to pay one SD or they will bump up your MF by .00015. Then, you can pay up to seven additional SDs and each one will lower your MF by .00007. So you can lower your MF to .00186 with eight SDs, which adds up to about $5,600 that your dealer would hold throughout the lease, and then give back to you at the end of the lease. Each SD will probably lower your monthly payment by only $5 to $7, but that adds up.

Try not to put any money down, meaning no "customer cash or customer cap reduction". You should expect to pay one security deposit, first month's payment, DMV fee, an acquisition fee of between $625 and $825, and a few hundred in additional fees, most of which are dealer profit and somewhat negotiable. Some of these, such as the acquisition fee, are usually rolled into the lease, but you can pay them out of pocket.

I don't know about good dealers near SLO, but you are better off emailing a bunch of dealers through Edmunds. If you only work with your closest dealer, they'll have no motivation to cut you a good deal. You'll get responses from the internet managers at the dealers you email, at least from those that are interested in your business. Tell them that you're ready to lease with the dealer with the best offer, and tell them the amount you're willing to pay over invoice. I would get a list of dealers from BMWUSA.com and pick the ones that you'd be willing to drive to, even as far away as San Jose. You should be able to complete the deal via email and phone and only drive to the dealer once, to complete the deal.

Good luck, and post your leasing experience here for us.
