I have ordered several BMW's, and usually they take about 3 months from the time of the initial order at the dealer. I guess it also depends on the area of the country in which you live. I live on the east coast (NY) so it may take shorter than someone who lives in the midwest.

I think this is an excellent deal. I am wondering if there is anyone in the Boston area gettting the similar deal.

Does the dealer have 525xi in stock? Or did you have to order? It seems no dealer here even gets a 525xi for test drive. :confuse: Only one or two dealers have one 530xi.
  • beeamwbeeamw Member Posts: 3
I did test drive both of them and then ordered the 525xi as the one in the lot did not have all the stuff I wanted. The dealer says he will have my car by 2 nd week of august and I can actually look up the progress on the BMW web site. He gave me the production no. of the car.

You've visited that same forum. I saw your posted question from earlier today. Just use the "search" option. We're not allowed to put infor concerning other forums on edmunds. Also, check out edmunds ED forum.

    good luck.

I contacted my dealer who was able to give me the name of the vessel and transport shipper for my car. It's "en route" and on the open waters right now and will arrive in New York on Friday, July 1. I should be able to take delivery on or about July 8 (in Maryland). I ordered the car on May 18.

$3,000 off msrp????????????? that's an incredible deal. Did you get
book value for your trade??? I unfortunately discovered this site too late.
My 525xi is due at my dealer this week.

I'm picking up my new 5 in a few days. Just wanted to see if anyone had
any advice about anything unexpected that I might run into, or any important
need-to-know offerings before I get there.
  • beeamwbeeamw Member Posts: 3
I m not trading in. It's a rip off. I will try to sell my old car online. You can still negotiate with ur dealer if u havent put anything down.
  • jfirbjfirb Member Posts: 9
I am going to take a test drive and hopefully nail down a nice deal this weekend. What is the best deal did you guys get? I am in the Boston area. BMW Norwood said you are selling at MSRP. I won't even bother going there.
  • hpowdershpowders Member Posts: 4,331
A few weeks ago I made a pretty good leasing deal on a 2005 545i which had to be ordered. The car should be here towards the middle or end of July.
I got the base .0010 money factor and a pre-tax monthly payment of $673 on a $58,000 MSRP vehicle.
Does anyone know if I am locked into this deal? I ask because since the 545i is outgoing, I am wondering if BMWFS comes out with a better deal on this car this month, perhaps cash back to the dealer, am I in position to ask for the better deal?
I have a print-out of my deal from the dealer but I didn't sign anything and I did make a deposit for the fees with my credit card. :confuse:
  • jfirbjfirb Member Posts: 9
Finally ordered the 525xi after about 1 month research. Man, you would think all dealers are pretty much the same but they are DIFFERENT! I emailed for a quote to all BMW dealers around Boston. BMW Norwood told me they are selling at MSRP and no discount at all and the way they said that was so arrogant. Since other dealers offered at least $1500 off MSRP, I didn't even bother to ask them to match even though it is the closest dealer to me. Finally I took the test drive and ordered from BMW Peabody at about $2500 off. What a great experience there. The salesman was very polite and listened carefully what I wanted rather than pushing to sell what they had. He actually didn't push to sell any options I didn't mention. I would highly recommend BMW Peabody.

Congratulations! My motto is if you're spending that much $, you should have it just the way you want it. Did they give you a time frame?
I ordered my 530xi on May 17 and expect to take delivery sometime this week. The car has made it to the US and is now in New York. It is nice to be able to track the order on-line. Good luck! :D
  • jfirbjfirb Member Posts: 9
Thanks! Yes, they actually modified a car that they already ordered but hasn't been built to match my requirement and told me I can expect a Mid August delivery. Enjoy your coming baby!

    Hello,

    I have configured a Item 2006 525xi for
    Price
    525Xi Base $44,000
    Auto trans $1,275
    17in Rims $300
    Premium Pkg $2,000
    Xenon Lights $800
    Sport Pkg $700
    Sat Radio $595
    Cold Pkg $750
    Dest Chg $695
    Split Fold Seats $475
    Total $51,590.00
    Invoice is 47,240

The dealer said the best he can do it 1,590 off MSRP so 50k total plus tax, tags.

Is this a good deal? This is not a lease.

    Thanks,
    monk134

It's up to $1,800 there people are not budging at all.
  • beamingbeaming Member Posts: 40
I suggest taking your configured auto to a couple more dealers. You'll be surprised how they can suddenly give you a better price. At your total price and considering the invoice price, I'd be happy to get $2,200 off the msrp. You are not far from that mark and I think it is attainable, the key is to tell them what you are will to pay.($49,390).

    Hi,

I just started my quest to become a first time BMW owner. I am looking to lease a 530i (3yr/12k). MSRP incl. options (premium package, 6 speed automatic), excluding destination charge is $49,575. Invoice is $45,415. From the forum postings over the past month or so, it looks like I should be able to get $1500 over invoice. I haven't seen any recent postings on the current money factor rate. The best information I can find is a money factor of .00195, which is an interest rate of a little over 4.5%. This would take me to $665/mo (incl. taxes), and about $2100 down (incl. 1st month, security deposit of $750, destination charge of $695).

Is that the best I should be able to get? I am in Northern NJ - any pointers on flexible dealerships is always welcome!
  • kyfdxkyfdx Moderator Posts: 267,543
    1) Always include the destination charge.. it is part of the price of the car for all calculations.. In this case, it is $695, bringing your MSRP to $50,270. Likewise, the invoice would be $46,110.

    2) The residual for 3yr/36K is 62%.. the MF is .00195

I wonder a little bit about your numbers.. because I think you are confusing the destination charge with the acquisition fee.. Destination charges are generally not broken out from the price of the car, for pricing a lease.. or paid separately..

Anyway, using my adjusted MSRP and invoice including destination...

With a cap cost of $1500 over invoice, the payment would be $611/mo. + tax.. with due at signing: 1st payment ($660 or so, incl.tax), security deposit ($700), acquisition fee ($625) .. title and license.. Probably $2200 or so total....

A pretty good deal for a $50K car that just came out.. All dependent on you getting $1500 over invoice and a dealer that will use the base rates, of course..

    regards,
    kyfdx

Thanks for keeping me straight. I did mess up on the numbers, and confused destination charge with acquisition/bank fee. Here's what I got from the 1st dealer I talked to:

    MSRP: $51,020
    Invoice : $46795
    Cap cost: $48750

    Residual is 62%
MF is .00175 if I put a deposit down, .00195 without deposit

    Payment came to:

    $616 + tax w/ $2533 down

    Downpayment:
    1st month payment
    $825 Bank Fee
    $250.5 Registration for 3 yrs
    $7.5 tire tax
    $700 deposit

I mentionned to him that the bank fee should only be $625, but he said that only applies to returning BMW owners. I am sure I can work that down.

I am at $1955 over invoice now, so I'll try to get to $1500 over invoice.
  • kyfdxkyfdx Moderator Posts: 267,543
Yeah.. the $625 for returning owners only is hooey..

I think he might be off on the MF.. .00195 is with deposit.. It would be .0021 without the deposit..

You are doing pretty well already... You aren't far from a good deal..

Well, I leased my first BMW and I thought I'd check to see what you all thought of the 3 year deal.

    MSRP: $46,520.00
Invoice : $42,880.00 (auto with premium and cold weather pkgs) - my notes showed it should be $42,550.00.
Gross Cap cost: $44,705.00 ($43,880.00 and the $825 acquisition fee)

    Residual value $29,307.60 (10,000 miles/year)
    MF is .00240 (nothing down)

Down payment was $1,361.66 (first month's rent, $70 doc and title fee, and $650 security deposit). There was no trade-in (I'll sell my 2001 525ia myself)

Payment came to: $605.34 plus tax

    Hello,

I have just purchased a 525xi as well mine is due late aug. Can you tell me what if any discount you recieved or any problems that you ran into?

    Thanks
  • beamingbeaming Member Posts: 40
Did you shop it around and push for the $2,200 off the msrp as I suggested to you?
  • beamingbeaming Member Posts: 40
I am thrilled to report that I took delivery of my 2006 530xi last night. It's a beauty, black sapphire metallic with auburn interior. The eight-week wait for the order was well worth it. I have exactly what I want on it. By the way, the comfort seats are awesome. :D
Question: I'm now faced with the dilema of purchasing the extended maintenance (as well as the extended warranty).
Any thoughts or suggestions from those of you in the know????????? :confuse:
  • freddybbfreddybb Member Posts: 95
Congrats beaming -- mine is coming soon and it is black sapphire metallic as well with the grey interior. Let's compare notes after we have had them for a while.
  • juventusjuventus Member Posts: 5
I have bought a 2006 525i which is waiting to be shipped to the U.S. I made a mistake by not ordering the comfort seats. Is there any way I can buy the comfort seat headrests from somewhere? If not, can I have comfort seats retrofitted after delivery?
  • bdkinnhbdkinnh Member Posts: 292
The comfort seats are more than just the headrests. I doubt you could have them retrofitted, but you may be able to switch the order. Ask your dealer - I'm sure they would be happy to help since they would be getting more money from you. ;)
  • kyfdxkyfdx Moderator Posts: 267,543
You can buy the extended maintenance and warranty at any time before the original maintenance/warranty expires..

No reason to buy it now..

  • beamingbeaming Member Posts: 40
The only advantage to buying it now is that the price to purchase the extended maint. and/or warranty will continue to increase according to the dealer. I'm just trying to decide if it's worthwhile.....
  • kyfdxkyfdx Moderator Posts: 267,543
Extended maintenance started in January of '04... Extended warranty sales started in September of '04... No price increases to date..

Of course, that is no guarantee.. Also, no guarantee you'll actually keep your car past 4yr/50K either..

I'd just prefer to keep that money in my pocket... A lot can happen in 50K miles...

Hey, how was the pricing on your 530xi, did you have to pay alot extra for the awd? Do you think it will be worth it? Thanks, I am also looking at the Lexus GS.
  • beamingbeaming Member Posts: 40
Good point. I wonder if BMW can decide to stop offering the extended plans at some point in the future. I do not recall getting any documentation on this offer, just verbal with the finance guy.
  • beamingbeaming Member Posts: 40
I negotiated $2500. off the msrp and my car was pretty much loaded except for sports package and a couple of other stand alones. After the $2500. discount, my car was $58,215. If you go to bmw.com, it will show you the price difference between the xi and i models (I think it's about a $2000. premium). Since I've only had my car for 6 days and have only put about 40 miles on it, and it's July in Annapolis, Maryland, it's kind of difficult to say if it's worth it. Many posters think it's unnecesary, but I like having the added control. I always recommend GERMAN, if you are truly on the fence between the two autos.

Reading the posts on this site shows me their are some very knowledgeable people out there regarding the 5-series. I am jumping into the world of finer cars. I have my eyes set on a 525 or 530 but not sure which way to go. Slightly higher horsepower in the 530 than the 525, is there a noticeable difference? What should i expect to pay for either model with the cold package, premier package? I plan on purchasing rather than leasing with putting a rather large down payment down. Is there negotition power on my side with this. Any help would be great! Thanx

Congrats! You must be enjoying the new ride. Please keep us posted how you like it (or dislike if any). I am still waiting for my black metallic 525xi, which is being transfered to the port of exit. I think I am going to get it soon.

Thanks to all for posting your info on prices paid, it helped me alot in my buying process. Thought I would return the favor. Just put a deposit down on a 525i, Titanium Grey, automatic, premium pkg., premium audio, folding rear seats and sirius radio for $45,745 or $1190 over invoice. Car scheduled to be delivered to me by the end of July, its on the ship now. Emailed several dealers and took the best quote. Got one quote for $850 over invoice but would not be built until later and delivered at the end of Sept. so paid a little more to get it sooner. Hope that helps.

What dealer in Minneapolis did you get $3000 off MSRP?
  • hihomikehihomike Member Posts: 111
I don't think there is a good selection of either model for 2005 - as the 2006 models are already out there.

I had a 2005 525i, and found it to be much too sluggish. Thus, I just got my 2006 530i, with 255 horsepower, and believe me when I say it has the power and the performance I was looking for. The 06 525i has 215 hp, which is 30 horsepower more than the 05. I would strongly suggest that you test drive the 06 525 and 530. Then, you have to determine for yourself which is best for you.

I live in Florida, so I had no use for the cold weather package, but the premium package is a must. I also go the premium sound package, with logic 7 studio surround sound - a great improvement over the standard radio. I also have sirius radio, which is outstanding with the premium sound package.

As for what you will pay, for the 06 530i, it should MSRP with cold weather package for around 52,500. If you shop the price from dealer to dealer, you should be able to get one for around 1500 over, as I did.

I bought the car as I plan to keep it for a number of years. With interest rates going up monthly, I would urge you to make a decision quickly and negotiate your interest rate as well.

    Good luck
  • suehsueh Member Posts: 9
just got my titanium gray 525xi. WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I love it. My only
regret is not getting premium sound. While it has been 90 degrees plus,
my grill and hood are staying extremely hot even hours after the car
has been driven. Dealer says normal (??)
  • suehsueh Member Posts: 9
I had a few problems along the way, but I did end up with "discounts" totalling just over 2k (off msrp, over and above the $$ I got for my trade). I'm sure I could have done better, it seems like many others have. I was short-changed on the
trade, just didn't want the hassle of selling it myself.

Dealer ordered the wrong trim so my wait was extended two additional weeks. They gave me some $$ off but I had to ask for it, more negotiating, left me with a bad taste in my mouth.

The good news is I'm gonna stop my belly-achin' and tell you the car
is incredible!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Well worth the wait and a few inconveniences!!!
    Did you order?
  • skobolaskobola Member Posts: 207
Hihomike, can you please e-mail me the name of that dealer who sold you the car for just $1500 above invoice. I also live in Florida (Miami), and they really do not appear to be discounting the cars, and especially not the new (2006) 3- and 5-series.
  • cmybimmergocmybimmergo Member Posts: 265
I wouldn't think so. My 02 stays cooler than any car I've ever driven, even when it's in the 90s. Have you asked another service department?

Check out Lauderdale Imports in Pembroke Pines or their Store on Federal Hway in Ft. Lauderdale (they have two stores). I got mine at the Pembroke Pines Store. They are on I-75 and Sheridan Street, just east of I-75.

    Good Luck.

I thought that the sharing is not allowed, that is, to announce the name(s) and other such information, and therefore I have asked hihomike to e-mail me, just because ha/she does not have his/her e-mail posted as public. Now it seems that you as a host would not have any problems in announcing the names and such in the forum., which hihomike did in the subsequent post, so let it be. THANKS HIHOMIKE!
