If it's any help to anyone browsing through here, I was able to purchase a 2006 525i for 4% over the true invoice price at Crevier BMW out here in Orange County, California, and was able to obtain 5.44% financing through BMW too. The only portion of the deal that still leaves a bad taste in my mouth was the $385 MACO fee and $180 training service fee (whatever that is), which they said they would not budge on. MSRP was $46,570, with an invoice that showed $42,495. After the deal was inked and i was leaving, the sales guy said that they "never" sell for less than 2,000 over invoice, but I was somehow able to purchase for $1,720 over invoice for an "out the door" price of $48,662. I received several online "special" internet prices from four other dealers, but they beat all other deals and without any nonsense. I walked in, told a salesman that I would buy the car right there and then if he would sell for 4% over invoice - he was able to get out of there in 90 minutes or less too. I test drove both the 530i and the 525i, and believe me that the 2006 525i with the 215 HP engine is plenty quick and fast enough. One regret though, I wish I had purchased the premium stereo package.

    1) I think your proposed price of $48,295 looks good.. I'm not sure of the market, though... If not that, then somewhere between your price and theirs..

    2) Base money factor is .0021 without security deposit.. .00195 is with security deposit. You are almost always better off making the security deposit and taking the lower money factor.

    3) $695 is a weird number for the acquisition fee.. The base fee is $625, and when they mark it up, they usually go for the maximum, which is $825. Are you sure this is a BMWFS lease?

    4) Residual for a 36mo/36K lease is 62% through BMWFS..

Yes. It is a BMWFS lease.

$695 bank fee is accurate. I did not ask if they marked it up.

The MF was based on no security dep. I agree, putting up a security dep if it brings the MF down is better, but I am thinking I could get the MF down to 00195 regardless.

I still think the price is too high by about $1000.

Is the BMWFS MF base currently 00195 with sec dep and 00235 without? The 00195 sounds a bit low to be the base.

    I don't want a marked up MF.

What is the money factor and residual on a 2006 525i lease with 15K miles per year? I am willing tp put down a security deposit to get a lower money factor.

Also what other fees etc are out there to complete a lease.

I usually drive about 18K per year. Should I structure a 18K lease to begin with or just factor in the 16 cents/mile penalty into my calculations?

I am in TX if state law etc makes any difference.

    Thanks all for your help.

Chaz318, I bought a 2006 530i from Lauderdale Imports - BMW in Pembroke Pines. As far as getting a new 06 BMW 5series at or below invoice, "good luck". I got mine for $1000 over invoice + MACO fee. Mine has premium sound, premium package and Sirius radio, listed for 52665.

If you are talking about MSRP price, that's different, but invoice or below is unrealistic, CHAZ.

I'm in the process of leasing or purchasing a 530xi in MD. Which dealers did you receive quotes from and what dealer did you buy from?
  • chaz318chaz318 Member Posts: 16
thank you very much, i realize it is tough to find bmw's going for or near the invoice price, but can always hope for thebest, but $1000 over invoice is still much better than msrp thanks again
  • chaz318chaz318 Member Posts: 16
also you mentioned you paid a MACO fee, ive heard this only applies to cars the go through the european delivery program, my question is did you participate in that, or did you buy the car straight from the dealer and they just made you pay it nayways?

Well, I recently (4 days ago) got a 2006 BMW 530i. The only options I got were:

    1. 6-speed Automatic Trans
    2. DVD Navigation
    3. Premium Package
    4. Cold Weather Package

(No Premium Sound, unfortunately....massive regrets about this!)

I paid $51,700 (base price without taxes and fees) for it. After reading this forum, I feel I could have done A LOT better.

The good news: this is the absolute best car in the world for its class! Was almost going to buy an E350 but they couldn't deliver the car I wanted on-time, so I went back to the BMW. Definitely no regrets on the overall driving experience front! Wish I got the premium sound and negotiated a better deal...Sigh...I guess you live and learn....
  • hihomikehihomike Member Posts: 111
No I did not particpate in the European Delivery Program. My car listed for 52665 including transporation (premium sound, premium package, sirius radio, auto transmission). I paid 49520 + tax and tags. It was a great deal considering it was one of the first 06 530i's delivered in my region (back in early April).

I figured that I ended up paying around 1300-1400 over invoice.
  • scotlowscotlow Member Posts: 23
I am in my second round of discussion with my BMW dealer.

First round I got the offer I posted earlier
    MSRP - 51020
    BMW Wholesale - 46795
    Dealer Offer - 49500

I am trying to get 1500 over invoice or 48295.

The dealer is off by 1200.

Also, the dealer told me my INVOICE calculation of 46795 (Available everywhere and accurate) does not include 2 items:
    MACO - $200
PDI - $300 (Pre delivery inspection)

These 2 last items are JUNK FEES. Right?

Is anyone else seeing these in their offers?

The dealer does not seem to want to bunge on these fees.

I am almost ready to give in and offer 48795 even giving him these fees but that would be 2000 over invoice.
  • kyfdxkyfdx Moderator Posts: 267,543
MACO is a regional advertising charge, and it is indeed on the dealer's invoice.. It varies by location..

    $300 PDI is pure padding...

I like to know what the invoice is... but, negotiate down from MSRP.. I know the magazines say not to do this... but, what is important is getting to the number you want... As soon as you bring up the dealer's cost (invoice), you start getting hit with all of his costs...

If the dealer makes $2K, but that is the best price you can find, that still makes it a good deal..

Yep - we did it - we placed our order for our 2006 525 xi (black ext., beige leather interior)

    Options we included:
    1. 6-speed Automatic Trans
    2. DVD Navigation
    3. Premium Package
    4. Cold Weather Package
    5. Sirius radio
    6. Xenon lights

Think we did pretty good - $2260 below MRSP........... What do you think?
  • jfirbjfirb Member Posts: 9
Congrats! The deal is pretty good as you said but could be better. How much is it over invoice? People here are getting around $1500 over invoice. But anyway you got a great car!
  • scotlowscotlow Member Posts: 23
    PDI is junk.

I will include that in my offer.

I plan to offer 48500 which is ~1500 over the TRUE invoice of 46795 plus the 200 MACO and less the junk 300 PDI. This is 1000 less than the dealers first ask price.

    AM I being realistic?

I know dealers further away who are giving 1500 over TRUE invoice with no MACO or PDI factored in.

How can these dealers think they can throw in junk fees when the real cost are so easily available? I do admit I feel a little petty knocking off small fees as I drop ~50K for a car but why throw away money?

Don't pay anything more than 4% over invoice price with ALL options figured in at their invoice price too. Spend the 12 bucks on the consumer reports true invoice price - it's worth it. Then add on the MACO, but tell them the PDI is their cost of doing business. if they don't want to deal, tell them to pound sand.

My 545i was ordered on June 16th. My dealer called me yesterday that the car arrived at the dealership and it would be ready for me on Monday, August 1st. 6.5 weeks from order to delivery.
You should figure anywhere from 6-8 weeks for the total process.

    MSRP (base) $44,000
    Cold Weather Package 750
Premium Package (leather, garage door opener, auto-dimming rear-view mirror and lumbar support) $2,000
    Auto Transmission: $1,275
    Xenon Headlights: $ 800
    Satellite Radio: $595
    Destination Charge: $695

    Total SRP: $50,115

I would like to do a 24 month/24K mile lease. The dealer has the car in stock. Any advice on how I should negotiate and what base should be used for the lease . Should I use BMW ficancial services for my lease.

    I currently own a 5 speed 2005 325i.

Due to a change in family circumstances the 325i is now a little cramped for my needs.

    I have located a CPOed 2004 525i witk 9K miles.

Is ther much difference in backseat space?

    Any downsides to this car?

The car is a 6 speed with:

    Cold Weather Package
    Premium Package
    Xenon Headlights
    Satellite Radio Preparation

The dealer first asking price is $38,000.

    Is this a good price?

    thanks fro any help

    scotlow,

When I bought a new 2005 530i in March of this year, there was two additional fees....

The first fee was MACO, which is an advertising fee (amount varies depending on location) that BMW charges all dealers. It's built into the MSRP, but comes into play if you negotiate an "$X over Invoice" deal. For southern California (L.A. county), the fee was $415.

The second fee was a Training fee of $180 which BMW charged all dealers.

The PDI fee is something new to me..... this one sounds bogus! You might want to check with another dealer on this.

I cannot say any valuable thing about price, equipment, etc. in the U.S.A, but I can tell you there is more backseat and trunk space in the 2004 525i than in you actual car.

I'm going to assume that your cash due @ signing = 1st payment, security deposit, and the $342 in fees.. This still seems about $100-$125 too high.. I'd like to see a breakdown of that...

The good news.. It looks like they are using the base money factor...

The bad news... It also looks like they charged $825 for the acq.fee ($200 markup).. I can be pretty sure of this, because I get the same lease payment to the penny.. I show the CAP cost to be $48,020 + $825 for a total of $48,845..

So, add the $200 bump and the $300 admin.fee into the price, and you are still at $2500 below MSRP, and with the base rates..

That looks like a good deal from here..

Thanks for your reply. Is that a $100-$125 in upfront cash or monthly payment? I am going to assume in cash since I have never seen that low of a monthly payment.

Has anyone been able to get a better payment in the Atlanta area?
  • kyfdxkyfdx Moderator Posts: 267,543
    $100-$125 extra in upfront payment....

1st payment = less than $700 with tax..
    Security deposit = $700
    Fees = $342

There might be sales tax on the Admin. fee... but, I can't see where they come up with over $1800....

No.. the payment looks right on the money..

If $2500 under MSRP is a good deal, then the lease deal is the smallest payment possible...

My wife was at BMW dealer this weekend looking at 06 530i. The she was interested has:
    Premium package
    Sports package
    Auto
    Cold weather
    MSRP is 53320.
Dealer offered my wife owner' choice lease 3yr/12000 and I guess 62% residual(I can make sure on Monday) $719.00 per month. We have to put $3500 down to cover tax+title. In this area tax is 6.5%. My wife told me the money factor is .0025. I would appreciate all the help I can get. Please guide me if this is a good deal. If not what counter offer I should give. You might think why iam considering owner's choice. Texas is not a lease friendly state. I might buy this car at the end of the lease. Thanks in advance.

  • kyfdxkyfdx Moderator Posts: 267,543
I'm not sure exactly how the owner's choice works... That residual you were quoted is the same as if you were doing the normal lease.. However, the base money factor for the traditional lease is .00175....

You don't mention a selling price... You need that to calculate any payment.. This deal looks a little high to me..

If you did a traditional lease, and had a selling price of $2K off of MSRP, you'd be looking at a payment of $674/mo... with acq.fee rolled in... 1st payment, security deposit and taxes upfront... I'd rather do that, even if I had to pay the taxes again, if I chose to purchase later... $45/mo savings = $1620 over the life of the lease..

I know you have to pay tax on the whole car either way... but, if you do the owner's choice, then turn the car in... you'll be out extra money... If you really want to purchase the car, I'd suggest a straight purchase for 60 months.. then you can shop around for a good interest rate... Of course, your payment will be closer to $900+..

I'm planning on leasing a 2006 525, can someone let me know what the numbers will look like? I'm In Southern Ca.
Options: Auto, Prem, Cold and Fold Down rear seats.
    MSRP: $46995 Invoice: $43060 . Based on what I've read here, I'll offer $45000
What will my payments be, based 36months/36miles lease, with base MF and Residual? :D Thanks
  • kyfdxkyfdx Moderator Posts: 267,543
$623/mo. + tax... Probably around $675/mo. with CA sales tax..

Due at signing: 1st pymt, sec.deposit, license/registration.. Probably $1700 or so, total..

I rolled the $625 acquisition fee into the Cap cost....

    Residual 62%.. MF .0022

MF is lower on the 530i, with the same residual, if you were thinking about it... It might not be that much of a jump in payment..

    With tax I'm paying $724 for 36 months for a 2005 545i. Just $1764 more to drive a 2005 545i rather than a 2006 525i for 3 years.

    But:

I know, I know. The gas!
About $1200 more for the 545i.

So it's really like $3000 more.

Oh well. At least I can get to the corner drugstore 20 seconds faster than I could with the 325i. :)

I found other experiences useful to my buying experience, so I wanted to post mine so that it may help others.

I decided last week to buy a 525i. My preferred configuration was the way they ship the majority in this trim line: Premium Package (Leather, etc.), Automatic, and Xenon Headlights. The MSRP is $46,565, and I felt my best deal would be 2k below sticker w/ no junk added (dealer fees of any kind). I live in a large (but not giant) metro area, so we have 3 or 4 dealers within 30 miles.

I first went to my local dealer (10 minutes from my home) and test drove a car. I then called back a few days later and informed them I was ready to by, and made my offer over the phone. I offered 3K under sticker, with no dealer fees. After saying no way, the sales-person countered with "If I can get it, would you take $1,500". I countered with $2,000 and no junk fees, at which point they said they would see and would call me back the next day (It was close to closing time). They did not call back the next day (or day after) - they essentially let me walk.

A few days later (today), I went to a dealer about 30 miles away. I expected to have better luck because this is a larger dealer (I would say mid-size based on their inventory). I spoke with the salesman and test drove a 530I demonstrator. While the bigger engine was nice, I cannot say that I was willing to plunk down the extra 4K - 5K for the car. The sport package was another story. I liked the tighter handling, and preferred the look of the low profile run-flat tires and the grey window trim (instead of all the chrome).

Unfortunately the dealer did not have the 525i w/ the sport package. He did however try to earn my business on the original model that I was looking for (w/out the sport package). They would take $1,800 off, but not the $250 dealer fee. He also indicated that the offer would be good until the price increase in September. They did offer to get me a car exactly like I wanted, but it would be $600 more due to shipping and the fact that they would not go as low on a car that was not in inventory. While we did not reach agreement, I was impressed with the dealer and will probably use them for all major service.

Next, I called a dealer about 100 miles away after verifying through the internet that they had a car outfitted exactly the way a wanted (colors, trim, options, etc). This is a larger dealer although not a mega dealer like you might find in Miami or Atlanta. I told the salesman my story - that I was prepared to buy the car at the dealer in my Metro Area and that the dealer was willing to take $1,800 off the price. However, you have the model outfitted exactly the way I prefer, and that if you will knock off 2K (and no junk), I will buy the car from you. He called back in a few minutes, and said we had a deal, except for the $200 dealer fee. I agreed and gave a deposit. He will fax me the paperwork Monday Morning and I will be the proud owner of a new BMW.

    Summary cost
    525i MSRP $41,800
    Premium $ 2,000
    Sport $ 2,000
    Automatic $ 1,275
    Xenon $ 800
    Destination $ 695
    Total $48,570

    Discount ($2,000)
    Dealer Fee 200

    Total before tax/tag,etc $46,770

Summary. I think I got a good deal, although the full 2K would have been better. I thought both the last two dealers were very professional. Also, while the final dealer gave me a better deal ($300 off net), it was on a car that had an additional 2K of selling price ($180 more of mark-up according to Edmunds). Also note that I was fully honest with all 3 dealers, and did not play one against the other. I also thought I was treated fairly as well (although my local dealer should have at least called back).

Does anyone know when the 525i's msrp either increased, or will increase from 41,800 to 42,500 become effective?

If you order and placed a deposit on a car today assuming the msrp is still 41,800, but the car is delivered 6 weeks from now when the increase is effective, would you pay based on the old or new msrp?

    Thanks!
  • kyfdxkyfdx Moderator Posts: 267,543
    $41,800 + $695 destination = $42,495 base price..

I'm pretty sure this is the current base price... and.. that it will be higher on September 1st. If the car arrives at port after September 1st, it will have the higher price..
