There are apparently shortages in all models of 5 series.
    (I'm in southern california area..)

Does anyone have info on when this shortage will be relieved ?
  • kyfdxkyfdx Moderator Posts: 267,275
The '07 shortage is likely to be permanent.. The '08s come out in about a month...

Hello, I am new to this board and was looking for some feedback on an '06 525i I was considering.

    Here are the details:
    525i
    Leatherette
    Automatic
    Miles: 17,631
    Asking Price: 37,777
    CPO

Apparently the car was the service loaner. I am not sure if this is something I should be concerned about - or if it in fact might be a benefit? Any tips on price or if this looks like a good deal? Thanks in advance.

i was in a similar situation. i looked at alot of cpo and finally decided it was a better choice to lease. we decided on an 07 525xi...we live in pa..the all wheel drive if far better than my gmc 4wd. unless you have an interest to keep the car for an extended time, i would suggest you look into leasing.

what kind of lease rates we get for CPO's ?
    MF and residual...
  • stickyfeetstickyfeet Member Posts: 11
i do not feel you will find a dealer that will lease a cpo. you will have to look at new vehicles. you can research the mf and residuals at: http://forums.mbworld.org/forums/archive/index.php/f-73.html. thislinkwas very helpful to me.

sorry, i supplied the wrong web site for lease mf and residuals. i sugest you check out leasecompare.com for more info.

I tried to use South Bank.
After 2 weeks of waiting, I finally got the paperwork from them and I just laughed.
The term, down payment and monthly payment were all significantly higher than agreed to.
    Classic bait and switch.
What a rip off. Of course, I didnt end up buying from them.
Dont waste you time with them.

I live in Madison WI, and recently purchased a 2003 530i with the sport package, which includes the 17" low profile tires. I purchased a second set of tires and rims (225-55-16) with blizzaks, and the car handles well in the snow and ice. Low profile tires provide little snow traction, regardless of whether you have RWD or AWD. The weight distribution is pretty close to 50/50 on the BMWs, so RWD with snow tires works really well. I previously had a Lexus with all-season radials, and although they are better than the performance tires, using snow tires on smaller rims provides better winter traction. Also, the rubber on winter tires remains pliable in cold temperatures, which provides a more comfortable ride. My summer tires become like blocks of hard rubber in the winter cold resulting in a harsh ride through city streets.

What kind of price and MF are you guys paying?

Low profile on 530 means 18" or even 19" rims. Now, traction has absolutely NOTHING to do with tire profile. It 90% depends on rubber type. You can get 18" low profile Blizzaks, put them on 18" rims and you'll have same traction as on 16" rims. Typically winter tires are put on smaller rims to allow more space for snow chains. But if you are not planning to use chains, you can as well get low profile winter tires. Besides, Blizzaks are not the best winter tire, it has same traction as all season Potenza 960 Pole Position (see tirerack.com tests). Get "Studless Ice and Snow" tires instead, like Bridgestone REV0.

I just stop by my New Jersey dealer to ask him about the lease program for existing BMW owners. I spoke to the sale manager without sitting down to press the issue, and he told that I may order A 2008 535I with $1500 hundred off sticker and a MF of .0018, a residual value of 62%, 12000 miles, 36 months. I may also lock in a lease rate for 90 days. I told him that I was not ready yet. However, I just want to know from other members on how close can I get to the invoice. In addition, may other members provide me some numbers on the deals that they acquired. I want to have my numbers before I negotiate

PA (Outside Philly) shopper who went to local dealer for 525 '07 and 3.9 financing; of course no models left in black or silver without all options. Dealer suggests '08 model coming in end of April. @ Dealer they are trying retail price. On line I have one quote for $1800 under invioce (44k for dark grey, auto and cold weather, leatherette) any advice in terms of this price or any other Philly area 528 deals? Is this car in that much of demand? New to the site/on line experience - sorry if questions seem basic.

I live in Midwest & am being offered the following by the dealer: 2007 Silver 550i with black leather (has about 8 or 9K miles on it), cold weather package, premium sound package, comfort access, heated rear seats, satellite radio and Navigation; 24 month lease with 12K miles is $755.23/month (including ~$40/month tax). Is this a good deal?
Also what are the current MF & residuals for 5 series BMWs. Would truly appreciate some guidance from the more experienced posters. My first foray into getting a BMW.
    Thanks a ton

    Hi:

It depends on what your drive off is. The monthly sounds very good. What is the MSRP?
  • eh550ieh550i Member Posts: 12
    Hi:

By comparison I got a deal for 10K/yr 2 year lease MSRP approx $69K and my monthly is $852 with 3K drive off. Hope that helps.

Quoted anywhere between $600.00 and $2500.00 off $63,000.00 MSRP by TN and NC dealers on a 2008 550i. Fees range from $0.00 to off the chart.

    Hey Professor

What's your take on getting the 550? I was planning on buying it but the 2009 model is going to have the engine upgraded for more power much like the recent 535 has been upgraded for this model yr. And also with the 535 twin turbo setup being just behind the 550 in the power dept, i'm considering "dropping down" to the 535 or wait it out for the 2009 55X model.

If they had just come out with the "updated" 550 this yr, it'd be a no brainer for me but auto makers always seem to put me in a pickle ;)

I ordered a 528 with premium/sports, Nav, xenon, and satellite radio two weeks ago and it should arrive by the end of June ( $2,000. off MSRP)... However; I did not order the Logic 7 radio, just kept the standard.. I think this was a mistake. My wife drive a 2005 Lexus GX470 with the Mark Levinson radio and it sounds great..

The Question did I make a mistake, will I notice the difference??

P.S. this will be my third 5 series in the last ten yeasrs and I never had the premium sound before. I drive a 2004 525I now..trading it in..!

Before The internet, Money magazine published the invoice prices of cars once a year.
Edmunds took it to the next level, with holdback, incentives, rebates for each make and model etc.
Now the dealers get back to some of us with this extra charges, MACO, dealer preparation, training fees; only on certain models, region etc.

So somebody who thinks they got $1500 over invoice on 535i may actaully only gets $2000 of MSRP. (at least on 535i that I looked, MSRP doesn't carry MACO, dealer prep or taining fees). Hey it's a conflict on interest between us and dealers so let the game continue on...

BTW, people always say it's supply and demand, yeah right only in this game we are handicapped since dealers is the one who can see the supply and demand curve. For us it's an empty X-Y axis graph.
  • stratapropstrataprop Member Posts: 21
I can definitely tell the difference, but some people can't (like my wife). You might be able to make a change if you catch it now.
  • professor1professor1 Member Posts: 5
For me, waiting for the 2009 550 is academic because I sold my wife's Lexus GS430, and the BMW is the replacement vehicle. If the 2009 is as rumored (i.e., more power/better economy), then I would be tempted to wait. She and I drove the 2008 535i, and I confess that I would not have known that it was a twin turbo six rather than a V8 if BMW had hidden the badgeing. (And if I had not looked under the hood.) While I thought I detected minimal turbo lag, I think it was more imaginary than real. I am banking on the 550i returning almost enough on trade or sale value to make up for most of the 535i/550 cost difference.

Sorry that I cannot be of more help.

Does any one knows if the 2008 528i has ventilated seats as an option?
Also i am quoted a money factor of 0.0018 on a 24 month lease is that the going rate?
  • professor1professor1 Member Posts: 5
Do you mind sharing the name and city of the dealer(s) whom you contacted? $800 (to) $1000 over invoice is better than what I have been able to negotiate. (I was not certain that the Edmunds board host would allow the sharing of such information. As such, I asked, and they said yes.)

    Thanks.

If anyone can provide me with some guidance on the Money Factor that BMW Financial is using on 2008 535s right now I would greatly appreciate it. In this forum I have seen as low as .0018 and I am being quoted .00305. Are money factors regional or national?

    Thanks.
  • kyfdxkyfdx Moderator Posts: 267,275
For current owners, BMWFS is offering .0018..

If you aren't a current owner, then the rate is .0025

To get to .00305, your dealer is marking up the rate the maximum .0004, plus assuming that you aren't making a security deposit, which adds .00015, resulting in a total of .00305..

    2004 530i - Dealer offer $35,369
Its Oriental Blue Metallic with Beige Leather interiors
    42k miles has nvn/pp/cp/premium sound/xenon lights
included is full extended maintenance warranty for 100k miles or Feb 2010
The original sticker price on this car was $54,420

    Price Breakup:
    Asking 33900 + 1200 (maintenance extended) + 269 doc fee, title fees = $35,369

Any honest opinion is sincerely appreciated.

    Question on Bluetooth Upgrade:
This car was most probably manufactured in Feb 04, is it possible to upgrade it with bluetooth? and also does the premium sound package plays mp3?

Thanks for reading and if can, please answer with your comments!

Got the following lease offer from my local dealership:

    2008 535i - Sport, premium, nav, logic7 & iPod
    36 mo / 10k per year

    MSRP - $58,075
    Selling Price - $56,575 ($1500 off MSRP)

    Down payment - $500 + TT&L
    Payment - $874/mo.
    MF - 0.00305

    Two questions:

    1. Should they be able to get closer to invoice on the selling price?

    2. Should I be able to get the MF to the base + security deposit waiver rate of 0.00265?
  • ping2ping2 Member Posts: 6
I looked at a very similar car and they were willing to take $2200 off the sticker price of $58,700. Before I purchased the car someone on the lot told me I should look into the run flat tires especially on the low profile sport package. Several posts on edmunds and other forums indicate serious issues with cupping under 7-10k and excess wear under 10k. The tires are ~400$ a pop and are not covered. Not sure if the problem is that prevelant; the car looks incedible.

I need some assistance please! I am new to leasing. I received a quote for a 2008 528i with Premium Package and Xenon only,

    MSRP: $49,675
    Sales Price: $47,159
    drive off of $2000 even
    62% resid
    2.65% MF
Total of $690 per month (including tax)

Do I have all the necessary info to determine whether this is an adequate deal?

    Thanks!!!!!!!

which dealer did you go to? I tried going to 3 diffrent dealers in NY & NJ area & best I got was:
    2008 528xi
    Prem. Package/cold weather/metallic paint/Navi
    msrp-$52225
    cost-$51030

No one seems to want to budge below $1200

Is this a good price or can I do better?

I am looking at buying a 535i (for a number or reasons, leasing is not a good option for me). I am in central Texas. Does anyone have a recent experience buying a 2008 535i in San Antonio/Austin/Houston/DFW. I am curious what discount off list folks are getting.
  • gboro2007gboro2007 Member Posts: 8
my experience is that if you find the right dealer at the right time, you can purchase the 2008 model at 1500-2500 over invoice price. if your deal is based on X dollars off of MSRP, you aren't looking hard enough or you just want the vehicle (which is ok too).

this may mean you have to look out of state for a better deal. I was looking in NC and they were basically selling the vehicle at $1,000 off of MSRP and weren't interested in going much further. I found a much better deal in another state and got my vehicle for $1300 over invoice.
  • slailorslailor Member Posts: 5
My current lease on a 530i will be up in mid-November. What can I expect to pay (a good deal) over invoice on 535xi? By this slow time of the year is there apt to be any incentives? I usually check three dealers-one in MA and two in NH.

    Thanks for your input.
  • nayyarnayyar Member Posts: 9
Wondering if I should negotiate further or take this as dealer's final offer. What would be the invoice price of this car? Here are the numbers for a 2008 5.28i
    MSRP $52,550
    Selling price $50,085
    MF: .00131
    Residual: 75% 24month 12k/year
    Dealer offering 615/month
    Inception include: 625 + 75 + 81 NY Tax? + Plates
  • wolfer2wolfer2 Member Posts: 10
I ordered a 2008 535xi yesterday for $1642 over the invoice price, including MACO and administrative fee. That works out to a little more than $3000 under MSRP.
  • gboro2007gboro2007 Member Posts: 8
