Wow, that's quite a rare car in the U.S.! You might think about the rear side airbags unless you have adults in back. The rear side can be as dangerous as fronts to small children!
I'm probably going to finalize this deal on Monday but wanted to get another set of eyes on the deal.
36 month/ 12,000 miles/ Money Factor (.00220 - think it should be lower since I should have a .00045 reduction due to loyalty.)

Can you tell me exactly what documentation fees/MV fees/charges/taxed etc are added on to the price of car to come to a final Out The Door price in New Jersey.
I am looking at a 535i with premium, cold weather, nav, comfort access and multi contour seats and would like to know if anyone had bought one recently in the Houston area. I have read in these posts about $1000-1500 over invoice in some places but I don't know how it is in the Houston area. Many thanks in advance.
Cold weather pkg in Houston? I live in Austin and have had my 535i since August. I chose not to get the cold weather. I would suggest the ipod interface and the upgraded radio if you haven't. The multicontour seats are definitely worth it. The dealers in Houston definitely will negotiate, more so than in Austin. Having multiple dealers in one area really helps.
Thanks for the advice, I will definitely consider it. I have been offered $55,500.00 for a 535- MSRP 57,125 and Invoice 52,550- I have no idea if it is a reasonable offer or not! Any input will help me.
The best deal I got from Houston would be equal to about $55,000 based on your MSRP. I've seen some posts quoting $1500 over invoice (not in Houston, DFW or Austin), but I couldn't get them down that low. I found working through the internet sales person was better than the regular, walk in sales. The internet folks seemed more willing to negotiate On a frustruating note, my i-drive just died. Two months into having the car. I'm taking it in Thursday and am hoping for a quick fix....
Thanks for the info and you are right, the best offer I have so far is 4.5% over invoice. I think I may be able to wrangle it down to 4% but that probably is as low as it is going to go. Bummer, I hope it is nothing major with the Idrive. With the 2009 5 series supposed to be out next year, I am also considering European Delivery around 8/2008 if the new one will be available by then as I will be in England then.
I think $1000-1500 over invoice is exception than norm. Maybe the guy has bought BMW many time from the same place.
I got $2200 over invoice on a 535i last summer, my 2nd car from the same dealer. No Prep, training or MACO fees though so $2200 is above the Edmunds invoice. No Trade in either, which could be another big variable in the equation when getting a new car.
I tried 3 different states (not dealers) to get my deal, just to see how out of the norm $1500 above Edmunds invoice would be
Wow! That is a good deal. If you are located anywhere near the Houston area, let me know where you got it. So far the best offer I have is 3% over invoice but I have asked them to send me a line item description of my OTD price- We will see. My luck, there will be a $500 dealer prep fee and $500 doc fee!! Gohorns, Hope your Idrive got fixed with the software update.
NO such luck They are having to replace the iDrive unit. I haven't had the car since Thursday. I have a 328 loaner. I appreciate the loaner, but it makes me glad I got the 535i. The 328 engine is no better than I had on a prior ES300. I am hoping this is the one major glitch with the car and not the start of a trend!
Looking for my first BMW (have been Lexus and Mercedes owner) and was wondering if anyone had experience with any of the DFW area dealerships... particularly in the area of price negotiations. Want a 535ix wagon, which very well may need to be ordered or sourced from an out of area dealer.
I just left an ATL BMW dealership after driving a 535i Sport. We have not pushed hard on price yet but he 'recommended' (wink wink) that we go through Costco as will we get 'around' $2300 over invoice. So an MSRP 535i at 56370 would come to 54836. Which is 4.3% over invoice in this case. I have a feeling they would love you to take that price for some reason.
My thought is to use that as a backup plan and try to get them down further prior to playing that card.
Any experience here in the ATL area and which dealers are dealing? United has a couple locations etc.
I have a chance to buy a 535i that was a BMW executive car. $59320 retail for $53900. It has 5800 miles on it. It would be sold as new and I can get the new lease rates. a 36 month, 0 cap cost reduction with sales tax is about $730.
Good deal given it isnt new new? A bit wary of the 'executive car'...meaning 'factory demo'
I just ordered my 535i here in Houston with the Cold Weather Pkg. as well. The reason... love the idea of being able to keep my headlights clear & clean at night when there is a mist in the air, or a lot of road film on trips to Dallas & SA. Also RE: the best deal... build your car out on Edmonds.com and see what others are paying. I was able to get even lower going through the internet designated salesperson than what was reported on Edmonds, and with NO HAGGLING. Received an upfront offer of 3% off the build-out price from Momentum BMW West.
Hi all, looking to purchase 5 series auto and navi (i would welcome any recommendations for additional options) in Los Angeles area. Any recommendation would be appreciated.
Hi all, looking to purchase 5 series auto and navi (i would welcome any recommendations for additional options) in Los Angeles area. Any recommendation would be appreciated.
Other options I'd recommend: comfort access (keyless go), comfort seats, Premium sound system, and satellite radio. Also, consider ipod connectivity and Sports Pkg. (comfort seats I believe are included).
I agree with carnaught. However DO consider the 550i if it is in your budget!!! I had a 535i on order and cancelled for a 550i, and I can assure you even though the 0-60 numbers are almost the same, it is not the same vehicle by a long shot! The sports pkg. is an entirely different set-up. The suspension is not merely recallibrated, it is retuned and callibrated and comes with 19" NON RUN-FLAT tires!!! Plus the manual is a short-throw box. If I am not mistaken, the 550i is totally built and assembled in Germany (at least mine was), and not in SC. If this is something that interests you, look for a dealer with a well equiped 550i on the lot and negotiate. Manuals do not sell as fast as A/T and they are willing to deal. :shades:
... and the Z4 leaves our shores soon as well. Believe the upcoming X6 will be built in SC, but no coupes or sedans at this time. Does the X6 come across as something spawned in a marketing meeting?
Agree that the 550i is an incredible car. Although the MB e550 has more HP, the driving experience is totally unique in the BMW. I have the '03 530 and have driven the 535SP at length (brother owns one). Still love that BMW straight 6!
The 550i premium over the 535 may seem steep, but you just have to drive them to experience the difference, subtle it may be.
>"Does the X6 come across as something spawned in a marketing meeting?"
I have a feeling I'm in the minority here, but I actually like what I've seen of the X6 so far. That could change when I see one in person, but I'm not turned off by it.
As a single person I don't see myself ever buying a 'crossover', though. If I wanted a truck, I'd buy a truck. If I wanted a car, I'd buy a car.
If I had kids, and I needed something that I could take to the golf course as well as soccer games, I'd take a look at the X6.
Any good experiences or advice on pricing out of area dealers? Any reason or target any specific area of the country?
right now I am emailing all dealers within 50 miles asking for best prices.
Lastly, anyone drive both 535i and 528i and just shake their head? Looks like I can save $100/month leasing a 528i but havent driven it yet...only 535i.
one of my local dealers seems to be taking the strategy to offer me Invoice+2% on 528i or 535i.
So if a 528i msrp is $51,270 and invoice is $47650, they offer $48603 ($953 over invoice).
535i would be msrp of $56,670, invoice of $52,771, they offer $53826 ($1055 over invoice)
Are these good prices?
these deals give me these leases payments using the november rates posted
535i, 36 month at $754, 24 month at $760. 10k miles 528i, 36 month at $679, 24 month at $640. 10k miles.
What is unsure is the out of pocket. they mandate a $399 doc fee (pretty much standard here in ATL). I assume security deposit+first month. I am unsure about the ACQ fee...I normally see them squeeze that into the lease cap cost, but I would push to eliminate it basically.
I picked up a 2008 535i for my wife for $55,900; MSRP was $60,045 and Invoice was $55,210 with the following options:
ZPP Premium Pkg ZSP Sport Pkg 416 Sun Shade, Power Rear, Manual sides 322 Comfort Access, Keyless Start & Entry 609 Navigation System, Voice Activated 6FL Radio Equipment, iPod & USB Connector 655 Radio Equipment, Sirius Feature 494 Seats, Heated Front
I negotiated between 2 dealers and it took about a week... but it was done all by email. I spent less than 1.5hrs at the dealership taking care of the paperwork and doing the show/tell of features.
The most painless car buying experience I've ever had!
I will be working on a similar deal this week with....at least 5 dealers.
Right now I am trying to verify true invoice price. I have 4 sources, and 4 different #s. The dealership, kelley bb, cars.com and carsdirect.com. about $800 difference.......
ACQ fee is the bank fee charged by BMWFS. It should be $625. BMW allows dealers to mark it up $200. It is just extra profit for them. You should pay $625.
DOC fees are a complete sham. It os just a way of them getting money out of your pocket. There is actually a law in NY that caps DOC fees to $45.
MACO & Training fees are legitimate charges added to the INVOICE (not the MSRP) of all BMWs. MACO is an advertising fee ($300) & the Training fee is $180.
2001 Prelude Type SH, 2022 Highlander XLE AWD, 2023 Toyota Tacoma SR 4WD, 2025 Toyota Camry SE AWD
Deal price: $48825 or 1.1% over invoice. (This invoice includes his maco and training fees, KBB invoice is shown as $410 less than that)
I ended up getting 4 dealers close to this price.
All were bidding on a car that was not at any of their dealerships, so they did have to pay transportation in addition to above. However, the dealer that won did it a bit sneaky. They initiated the dealer transfer without me approving their deal...thus the dealer I did say GO to, could not get the car. I made them beat that dealer's price, or I was walking from that car.
I could get this from multiple dealers in ATL. Just start working the email with them and when a specific vehicle is found, email those details and keep going back and forth. Eventually they will ask what will make you stop doing that, so have a figure in mind.
Smithsonga, what do you mean by "email those details" and "what will make you stop doing that"? Are you saying that you sent other dealer deals to them and made each one beat the other or did you keep the figure in mind out in the open. I am in Atl. why dont you say the dealer names and critique each one for dealing. I am closest to Global and would be easier to use their service. They dont give a bimmer for loaner if you dont buy there. Other dealers are pretty far. Are they similiar in their loaner rules? What did "specific vehicle" mean? You did not special order? Car you wanted was available locally? Thanks
Ok, I knew approx the car I wanted...color/interior/options...I gave them some leaway and told them to find the car. When one of them found a car that hit my mark, I told EACH dealer about that specific car. I found it convenient with my deal that the car was out of the area..so everyone had to bring it in.
then, yes, each time I got my best deal, I would email that to the other dealers (without saying where I got the deal).
That moves quickly and one dealer asked what price/# would it take for me to commit on the spot and stop shopping around. I gave him a really low number, he called back and didnt quite hit that #...SO, I took that good deal and shopped it again.
Global called me too late to be part of the party. I ended up going around with Athens, Macon and United Roswell.
Athens or Macon will drive a BMW loaner to your house, drop it off, drive your car to their dealership for service and return/swap etc. However, Macon is 60 miles south of the city...so they will put some miles on your car.
If you want to cut ot the case quick, talk to the Internet person at Macon and start dealing around.
You can always give Global the last look if you want to buy from them based on location, if they will not meet/beat your best deal, you have to decide what it is worth to you.
Be prepared at the end to have last minute changes...I said OK to my final dealer and sent sorry's to the others. I got immediate action and the price dropped further and I ended up at a different dealership. it is amazingly ruthless out there.
I am thinking about getting a 528i. Dealer in here has a 2008 528i auto, nav, premium, ipod, xenon adaptive light, heated seats, real time traffic for 47000? It is a finance loaner with 9400 miles on it. Is it a fair deal?
$690 over invoice is an envious deal. which two sf bay area dealers competed? also, how do you keep the salespeople from playing games at the end of the process (switching numbers around at signing.. etc)? thanks.

The point is that the car is not new and should be leased for better than "new" rates" IMHO.
Where are you located. I can't seem to find anything that reasonable in my area (TX). Thanks.
Thanks.

I was thinking of the 3 series... this getting old sucks sometimes!
I was thinking of the 3 series... this getting old sucks sometimes!
Only the SUV's, the X3 and X5 are made in S.C., to my knowledge.
Anyways, good luck with your 550!

2001 Prelude Type SH, 2022 Highlander XLE AWD, 2023 Toyota Tacoma SR 4WD, 2025 Toyota Camry SE AWD
Acquistion fee (for leases). I am told it is a minimum of $625...charged by BMWFS. Some dealers mark up to $825. Can this be negotiated to ZERO?
Doc fee. Most local ATL BMW dealers make this $399. I have seen $499 and $299. I would think this could be zero also.
I believe some of the invoice pricing differences could be the MACO and Training fees. I am researching that.
thx
