Must be the furtherest Sorento owner in this discussion group.
Have had a 04 Sorento Ex for a few weeks now and am noticing a distinct vibration at 100-120ks. This reduces at speeds exceeding 120. Have heard something about air pressures affecting this but the vibration is the same at all pressures from 30 -40 psi.
The dealer tried to balance/align the wheels but I am not sure he did a good job.
Suggestions? I have done about 4000 ks and it a great car otherwise.

esskay - The causes for the vibration that I have seen in this board are: wrong tire pressure, incorrect wheel alignment & balance, exceed drive shaft/axle under seal, and incorrect drive shaft position. Have your dealer look at these areas.
I had the same problem with my Sorento and was told that it was a faulty oil filter. I was not charged for the oil change. I do have a problem with the door panels that I noted in entry 663 - how about you?

I have a meeting with the Kia rep. on wed. if you have pixs of your vehicle and want to share them please email me. my email is in my profile.
frank
I have email some pixs of my vehicle showing the impressions, now that it has warmed up here in NJ the impressions have seemed to disappear.
let me know if you have observed a similar problem
I have any appointment with my service department next Monday to go over this issue. Wish me luck, as I do for you! Keep me updated on what happens on your end. I'm very curious what Kia will have to say about this.
good luck, i'm not sure what they can do. today temperatures reached mid-30 and sunny . i had no problems with the impressions in the door panels. i will keep you informed.

Well, I met with regional Kia representative this morning and gave him everything I had. He was amazed to see the impressions on all four of the outer door panels. This is the first time he has heard of this problem. I showed him other vehicles on the dealership lot that had the same problem. He informed me that he would have to address this matter with the Kia engineers and will have to get back to me. This may take some time.
My Sorento is 2003. I purchased it in Dec. of 2002 and did not notice the problem until Jan 2004. I will send you pixs of my vehicle.
Frank
Thanks.

I may be wrong here but not having pics I suspect what you are seeing is just the outline of reenforcing cross members inside the door panels.
As can sometimes be seen on the hood, the outline of the internal shows up as a skeleton layout. The cold snaps this winter have be record braking and some of you in the banana belts may have been subjected to "normal for us Canucks"
-20 or -40 F temps.
The extra mass of steel behind the door panels getting at -30 F causes outside air humidity to condensate more at the solder points and anywhere steel meets steel hence... the funny outlines. Actually you may see those more on one side of the car than the other depending on wind direction and speed which causes more humid air to come in contact with the frigid steel mass.
I do not think this is going to be a serious issue with Kia engineers. As I said... these outlines
show up on any car make... possibly more up here in cold country.
Now for vibrations above 60mph (100KMH).. Last week I took my new LX 2004 to 72mph and nothing.. no vibs and I don't plan to go much higher...ever.... unless I it I95 going to Florida if and when all the vans fly by me in SC and GA !! :-)
anxious to see KIa comments on the markings!!
To resolve the problem, I asked my dealer that they install an AMSOIL filter... I did not saw any oil residue since !
I even read a french review on the Sorento where the guy told that the OEM oil filer is a cheap one (he also has the oil residue). He suggest a better quality oil filter.

It's difficult with the reflection of the street, I can see the impression. I wonder what the Kia rep would tell you. It seems that you are not the only one who has this problem if the cars at the dealer are showing them as well. What did the dealer has to say? For a dealer who is selling Kia, I don't think that they would be happy to find these impressions on the cars. This issue would not be taken lightly.
i met the kia rep yesterday and was told that he needed to address this issue with their engineers. the dealer had no comment.
I read your posting and must say that you are probably right on the money with your information. But I also had a 2000 Honda Odyssey van and a 2001 Dodge Intrepid both along side the Kia and did not notice any problems with impressions on those door panels. Also, temperatures have reached in the mid to hi 30s and I can still slightly see the impressions.
My dealer covered it under warranty.

I have sent the pixs.

I left the Home Depot store last night at dust. The temparture was in upper teens and windy. I walked to my car and noticed a straight line on each left driver and passenger door panel. I looked the right side and saw the same thing. It was the same image which I saw from joboo's email. It's just like the impression of the door reinforcement bars. However, my car was quite dirty because of the dust and road salt on my car. But the image was quite impressed even under the parking lot lights.
I woke up this morning (temp. = low 20s) and can't see the impression. I will pay close attention to this. I first need a car wash and a camera. Then I will prepare to contact Kia. I only have a few years old digital camera and a regular 35mm camera. I hope I can document this again on picture.
hicaffa and folks in cold climate area - This could be a wide spread problem for some Sorento owners. We probably need to alert our Kia service people and Kia about this.
Please notify your regional kia rep and get a kia case #. this can be done by contacting the kia 800#. Your dealership should be able to tell you when the kia rep. will be at the dealership. Please let me know what happens. 2003 Sorento owners and possibly 2004 owners, should carefully look at their vehicles after a cold spell and see if they notice any impressions or outlines of the reinforcement bars in the door panels. If you are not sure what to look for please let me know and ill forward you photos.
thanks
Frank
Interested to see the photos. Email me them at diversmail@canada.com
I have my Sorento since September 2002 and I never saw anything suspected on my doors panel.
Anyway, I will take a particular attention to this now.
Thanks in advance for the photos.
I have emailed you the pixs
slan - It is surprised that you didn't notice this yet. It looks like you are living in a much colder area than me. The daytime high here is 12F. It will be a negative reading tonight.
I first noticed the problem on 1/10/04, the same day I noticed the puddle of oil in my driveway due to the faulty oil filter. The temperature that night dropped to below 0 with the wind chill factor. I have noticed the impressions ever since. As the temperature rises the impressions seem to go away, but not completely. I first told the dealership service manager of the door panels while I was getting my free oil change. They told me to contact Kia Customer Service. The following Mon. I contacted the Kia 800# and received a case #. Both the Kia Customer Rep. and the dealership service manager called me to let me know when the regional Kia service Rep. would be at my dealership. Each region of the country will have a # of Kia service rep. in the area to inspect problems with their vehicles. I am also trying to have them pay for someone to clean the oil stain on my new driveway. I used some stuff to absorb the oil, but it left a stain.
The reg. Kia service rep. will come to your dealership to inspect the vehicle.

I just took a look at the photos (thanks frank). I live in Quebec, so it's very cold here. We have some -10, -20 and -30 degree celcius. I never saw that on my Sorento. It's a black one. I don't know if the color of the Sorento can play a role.
I bought one of the first Sorentos available on the market (sept. 2002).
Two tweeters at the A-pillar (side mirror), plus one speaker on each door makes 6 speakers total. Since I have the LX and it should have 8 speakers. If I count 2 speakers in one of the speaker on the door, I would have 10 speakers which is not right for the LX. It doesn't make sense to me. Can you explain in details? Sorry to be a pest
BTW, I went to an Auto show and I stumped the entire Kia team on my question about the speakers. No one knew the answer. No one knew where the other 2 speakers are located (8 speakers, found 6)
EX • Speakers: 10 (6 locations, 4 double cone)
Source: http://www.kia.ca/specs.asp?lang=en&plate=sorento
slan - The U.S. sales brochure don't give much explanation on speakers. It just said 8 speakers on LX and 10 speakers on EX.
About the door panel deformation, I only saw it once on my Sorento last week. BTW, mine is gold beige. And it was dust with some lights in the parking lot. I don't see that again for the last few days. And it must be super cold when it's occurred.
I was wondering if anyone of you have experienced a grinding sound that occurs as soon as the engine turns over when it has been sitting in really cold weather over-night. It only happens when the truck is really cold. It grinds for less than one sec then goes away. Has anyone had this happen to them?
Just so you know, I don't seem to have the problem with the door panels and I leave my truck outside in some pretty cold weather.
