Or you could buy it used, as lease returns or whatever, in about 2 years for half that price. Most American cars, with the exception of a few, like the Mustang, just dive as far as resale value, so it is best to wait two, or more years for the price to settle down. Considering how long cars last now-a-days, even an older car with 40k to 60K miles on her is not too bad a gamble for reliability. And if it is not reliable, why buy it new? Most domestic cars I bought had the two or three, and sometimes eight problems mainly within the first three months or so. Used one's have been fixed already - that is the GM way of testing cars too ;-) I would look over the road test data and see how this car compares with Altima, Mazda6, and Accord , and do a test drive of the G6 before buying. It looks pretty sharp. GM is building cars better, it appears.
I won't be in the market for another 2-3 years at least as my 2000 Intrigue is running well.
Apparently Aura will be built at the Fairfax plant in Kansas (where a lot Epsilon product including Malibu and possibly G6 are built).
I looked at side and it appears the driver door molding is a little higher than the back door on driver's side. Passenger side looks completely even and no noise.
Looks like one of those little fixable nuisances that you generally don't have with Toyota's or Hondas.
Don't be so sure. Our neighbour had an Accord with auto transmission issues and a couple of trim issues also. Believe it or not, Honda and Toyotas are not trouble free or made perfectly.
Thte Altima has at least 2 that i know of, black and grey. WHy don't the folks at GM make another choice... like Orange, or dark orange? It would sure make all that chrome look classy. Not everyone buying this vehicle wants a Darth-Vader interrior.
Just my 2 cents. What do you guys think?
I think they are missing the big picture here. Many people will shy off an excellent car like this just because of the dash color. This is not a market where the customer will take what you give them.
Also, GM is IMO making a serious mistake in marketing the 3.9L. They are not trumpeting anything; they are not giving it a special name like VQ or Northstar. The engine cover looks bland. Why don't they make it look wild to suit the image of the G6 buyer they wish to procure?
Then, on that cover, all they need to do is put the words VVT and DoD on it, and they will see a lot more younger people looking into the car. GM finally has some technology to advertise. Why don't they do it?
This company is starting to look like MCI, and you know what happened to those people. Anyone remember getting $1600 cell phone bills? This is the same sort of mistake.
Lutz should have caught this. The G6 is a awesome car, but they are sure marketing it wrong.
And what's with the coup/convertible? Those rear lights suck. The sedan’s rear lights look much better. Why couldn’t they have either kept the same lights, or made them as close as possible to the sedan.
I like this car, but man, as if GM did not have enough problems with the UAW sucking up profits and R&D money like a sponge, Lib organizations suing it left and left (pardon the pun) just for waking up in the morning, stricter regs from California, and now their core business people are incompetent too?
Sooner or later the American car shopper will have no choice but to kneel down before a Japanese master.
Err... okay no more ranting, just my 2 cents.
I dont know when the GTP will be available but the ordering information is out so it must be soon. The coupe should be out in May according to info I got at the autoshow. The 4 banger will have only 165hp and 161 lb-ft of torque, not 170 as everyone thought.
Stepping back and looking at the big picture, this car is a big deal for GM. It is a sedan, coup, and hardtop convertable prtraying pontiac's "action" image pretty well. With a 4cyl, 2 v6's and your choice of manual/automatic transmission, it looks like a direct competitor to camcord and altima.
Just wish they would get real with the pricing, and offer nav and XENON. the camry solara is less than 20K BASE, i doubt the g6 will manage that. The should remove all incentives and just take off 2K from the price.
G6 is cool. Just a little bit more GM, common you can do it.
Great idea.
Will they improve the steering anytime soon???
The GTP will have automatic climate control, 18" rims and stability control standard. I dont remember if leather is standard but I think it may be.
If you are interested in Factory XM you can't get it with Panoramic roof for the 2005 model year but you can get both options when the 2006 model comes out because XM system has a different antenna.

montanafan : I drive an Intrigue and it's variable assist steering has a similar feel. I like it also.
For the initial 2005 model year there are 4 different wheels - 2 for each model
G6 6-Cylinder Standard Wheel Cover (QC1) 16" steel, with bolt-on wheel covers
G6 6-Cylinder Optional Wheel (PF9) 16" cast aluminum, painted
GT Standard Wheel (PFF) 17" cast aluminum, painted
GT Optional Wheel (PFE) 17" cast aluminum, Chrome Tech
For the 2006 model year I know the GTP adds 18 inch wheels. I don't know if more than 1 type or not but I think that there are 2 different types of 18 inch tire that will be available. Not sure if the 4 cylinder adds any lower level wheel than already available.
I added the std sunroof and ABS. I opted for the base wheel covers since the out of pocket cost was getting up there. Tire size is the same and in my opinion they look equal to or better than the alloys which are very "open" allowing you to see a lot of disc brake. Not knocking the alloys but I just couldn't justify them. Wheel covers are not bad and look more "substantial". Don't hesitate to get them if cost is an issue. Again, you won't find ANY pics of these on the car in brochures or internet.
Initial impressions are; 1) std sunroof noise a bit louder than the Stratus I'm used to, crack the 2 back windows to get a better air pressure balance and it's better 2) a bit more tire noise than I expected but not terrible - Uniroyals were never real good tires 3) seats seem low and since I did not get the power seat option, can't adjust height - just have to grow 4) build quality seems good especially interior. More comments as the miles add up.
