My, do we have an attitude or what? FYI, Edmunds data has been known to be incorrect at times (or not up to date). "Isell" has been a valuable source to potential buyers for a long time here. If he says 2% holdback, I'd have a tendency to believe it. You are the one who needs to loosen up......

Looking for an EX 2WD CR-V in the Washington DC/VA/MD Baltimore areas. Would like to know of the best dealers you bought from including in the Baltimore area. I hope there's deals in these areas for no more than $500 above invoice.
  • kiawahkiawah Member Posts: 3,666
Just go to the closet local dealer in DC area, and give them a written offer for 500 over invoice. Put you name, address, and phone on the offer. You're not going to have to search high and wide for a dealer to accept that deal. If they accept it, you bought the car. If not, say thank you and walk out. They'll either call you back in a day, or you can move on to a different dealership. You have lots of dealerships in that area, and it's a very competitive area.

first, I want to thank everbody who responsed to my question. I also faxed and called Honda Customer service(1-800-999-1099)regarding the HDAG fee. The lady who answered my phone could not find the answer, even after consulting with her supervisor. They set up a case and will reach me in 24 to 48 hours. I will try to paste the answer here.
right now I am still negotiating with the dealer and he seems to low down the price by 300$, which makes 23245 OTD for 07 CR-V LX 4WD (long island, NY). Does anybody in new york know if this price is reasonable?
  • blueiedgodblueiedgod Member Posts: 2,798
    (long island, NY).

Did you get HDAG from Paragon Honda? They are known to be crooks.

I went to Boyd Honda in Oxford. They are ok, I would recommend Hoover Honda in Danville, VA too.

Anyone have advice on pricing for a 2008 CR-V EX FWD in Ohio. I have a price of $22,600 plus doc fee of $250. I think it's too high.

    Appreciate any advice

re: advice on pricing CR-V EX

I'm in the market for the CR-V except with 4WD. Because the local choices are limited to two dealers, I've emailed and called dealerships up to 90 miles away or so and gotten better offers. You can do the same there and see if the local dealer will budge if you have a competing offer.

Since the '08s have not arrived here in SC, and aren't supposed to until late Oct/early Nov, I can imagine getting a price close to invoice would be difficult.

Apparently its a standard practice here in the Lowcountry to buy a cars from a dealership up to 100-200 miles away, even up to Charlotte, where there are more to choose from.

I can't help with a dealer. However I have an 07 with nav. It's nice having the integrated system with the camera built in. It is expensive, but if you plan on keeping the car a long time I believe it's worth it. I read somewhere recently that built in nav systems depreciate significantly faster than the car itself. That is why on a lease, it costs more becaue that accessory can lose it's value quickly.
  • firefighter75firefighter75 Member Posts: 9
Thanks for the reply. The other option is to get a Tom Tom but then I would need to hide it in the car when I park in a bad area. Does your voice rec work well or do you need to repeat your commands a lot or change the wording?

    That's true.

A Navi system adds very little value to used cars.

Most people don't care about them I suppose.

Just purchased today at Herb Chambers Honda of Burlington [suburban Boston]. I paid $22,610 which included freight and $259 "Doc Prep" fee. Edmunds TMV suggest I actually got a deal!! Best price offered me for the AWD [2008 EX] was $1,125 more.

If anyone out there got a better deal, please let me know where.
  • affrommaaffromma Member Posts: 5
I wanted to buy the same vehicle from Hendricks [Woodbridge VA]. But, when their Doc Prep fee was rolled in, their price was $700 more than what I eventually paid [I had the luxury of buying near Boston MA].

Edmunds says Invoice is $21979 [that would be w/o "Doc Prep" crap added]. I paid $22,610 which included Doc Prep.

I paid $22,610 w "Doc Fee" ... but that was at dealer near Boston.

When Will the Manufacturers Go Toe-to-Toe with these Guys ?

Sixty years ago dealers may have added value, but not now. In my neck of the woods, dealers vacate their buildings after selling 20,000 vehicles and build new ones at a cost of $5-7 million. That's $350/car that consumers would love to have in their pockets. In the past nine years I've purchased, all new, a 2008 Honda, a 2004 Infiniti, a 2001 Isuzu, a 2000 Ford, a 1999 VW, and a 1998 BMW The ONLY time I went to the dealership was to pick up the car [except the '99 VW, which Bill Britt VW delivered to my driveway]!
  • stevecarstevecar Member Posts: 148
I was also going to mention the stolen nav systems problem.
As far as the voice recognition, I don't use it much, so I can't give an honest opinion.
I basically got the nav built in because it's a long term car, I liked the rear camera safety and didn't want the hassle of break-ins. If you use the windshield stick on it leaves a mark. People look for the mark and if they see it, they will break in assuming the system is in the car.

I've read that the Baltimore dealers offer better pricing than the DC area any thoughts?
  • pete22pete22 Member Posts: 80
In Orange County, CA. Just asked for on-line quotes for a 1008 CR-V EX-L (FWD no navigation) have alredy gotten a quote at 24,600 and invoice shows 24,344 with destination. I was surprised 2008's are being sold that close to invoice. Would Cosco get invoice or is this deal as good or better ?
  • isellhondasisellhondas Member Posts: 20,342
In So. Calif, nothing surprises me. Seems like a shame to have to cheap sell such a great car but that is what has become of that marketplace.

Just watch out for add-ons or tricks. They HAVE to make a profit somehow.
  • pete22pete22 Member Posts: 80
well there is the 840 holdback and the delaer inplied dealer incentives exist. Probably a kickback that even Edmunds doesn't know about.
  • isellhondasisellhondas Member Posts: 20,342
Oh, yeah...lots of secret, hidden money...beware!

    Shhh...don't let Edmunds find out!

i called heritage honda westminster on September 10th to place an order for a 2008 CR-V.
I spoke with a salesman named Joe Ski, at first, he sounded very pleasant and He told me to call him back in 2 weeks so he can give me VIN number and the delivery date. he told me he is a man of his words and no deposit is needed.
When i did, he told me he would call me back, but he did not, i called him the next day and he says he would call in the evening with the VIN number, no calls, when I called him back 10 mins. prior to COB, he tells me he would call me in the next morning, then 1 hr later, then momentarily. This kept going for 3 days, and when i finally got hold of the manager, when he checked the order list, he found out no order was placed by Joe Ski.
Come on... have some professionalism in you career. he should take his job more seriously and customers' time more seriously.
The manager told me he can place an order on the 15th of october for Nov. delivery, but can't guarantee he can get the model and color i want b/c Honda allocates cars.
at this point i don't care if i can get CR-V or not, but curious how the manager and the dealership can handle this. i will call him on the Oct. 15th and post what he says.

No excuse for that kind of treatment!

Are ther other stores in your area?
  • matrixva1matrixva1 Member Posts: 21
Did you talk price on the 2008 at Heritage. I thought they were one of the better Baltimore area dealers pricewise?
  • naborsnabors Member Posts: 26
    Pete22,

Could you post what dealership in Orange County gave you this quote and, possibly, the salesperson?

I'm looking to purchase TWO '08's.

    Thanks!!
  • kkucelkkucel Member Posts: 5
Did you by chance price any of the dealerships in Raleigh and Cary compared to Boyd? I grew up in Creedmoor so I have no problem going back there if they can give me a better deal than Cary.

We've decided to purchase a 2008 EX in Glacier Blue.

So far the only quote I've received includes:
08 CRV EX 2WD with the cargo net is 22842.00 plus 3% tax, 398.00 document fee, and 74.00 registration fee.

The quote also says "this price cannot be combined with any special finance or lease rate offers".

Does that mean they'll raise the price if I tell them that I'm using my credit union for financing?
  • trinity3trinity3 Member Posts: 50
I just rode by the only Honda dealer in my area and saw that they acquired the property adjacent to their existing dealership. This dealership is known for their "no haggle pricing" (they will not negotiate at all).

I don't buy that these guy's are merely making it by the hair on their chinny chin chin.

I am going to get a great deal this time; I've been taken advantage of in the past and it won't happen again. For every fair deal informed shoppers get, they'll more than make up for it by exploiting others.

It sounds like you're an expert at this . . . do you have an specific pointers?

    Thanks, Trin
  • kiawahkiawah Member Posts: 3,666
No, that means if Honda comes out with special lease offer or financing discounts, that the dealer won't give you those with the price that you got.

Which dealer is this at? Leith?
  • kkucelkkucel Member Posts: 5
    Thanks!

No...the quote was for Autopark in Cary. I'm waiting for the quote from Leith.

I did reply to the quote stating that I hoped for something closer to invoice. Doesn't hurt to try..right? :)

Just got a quote in So.Cal for the '07 CRV EX-L AWD w/o Nav for $23,000. He said he can go a bit lower. Good deal? That is best I've seen thus far.

i want to get back to this topic because I did get an answer from American Honda Customer services (1-800-999-1009).
Basically what they told me is when honda sells the vehicle to the dealer, dealer can charge any fees they want to add on. The HDAG fee may comes from the ads that dealer put on local channel and papers.
  • stevedebistevedebi Member Posts: 4,098
"Basically what they told me is when honda sells the vehicle to the dealer, dealer can charge any fees they want to add on. The HDAG fee may comes from the ads that dealer put on local channel and papers."

Of course, the consumer doesn't have to pay for whatever fees the dealer tacks on.

It's a free country. The dealer is free to tack on fees, and the buyer is free to walk away and go elsewhere... which I recommend.

Does anyone know if Honda dealerships will install Honda accessories purchased online?

    Specifically:
    Auto Day/night Mirror
    Fog Lights
    Moonroof Visor

If so, do you know what the estimated installation costs are for each of the items listed above?

    Thanks, Trin
  • kiawahkiawah Member Posts: 3,666
Boy, you have a lot of guts to ask a dealer to install somebody elses parts. When you go out to eat in a restaurant, do you bring your own food?

That is their money maker, they won't agree to do that.

And just who would you hold accountable if it didn't work? Product was defective which is your problem, or labor didn't install it correctly which is their problem?

If you buy the parts at Honda, they will tell you the installation costs. They gave me parts and labor prices up front while dealing for the car.

In pricing a 2008 CR-V EX-L, I was wondering if anyone had experience paying the $40 for the information at www.fightingchance.com and if they thought it was money well spent.

It seems a lot of the info is available on-line free from Edmunds or KBB, but they promise a lot on their site.

Any opinions would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks!

I bought the package and to be quite honest the exact same information can be found by combining information found here as well as on other sites for free. Granted I didn't take advantage of calling their number for further assistance but I was rather disappointed in the material that was sent so no didn't think it was worth it.
  • tarajtaraj Member Posts: 3
How did you get to such a great quote? What was your process? Did you accomplish all of this online? I am in the market for the same car in Maryland. The best quote I have been offered so far is 26,600. Any advice on how to get down to your number?
  • kkucelkkucel Member Posts: 5
I called three different dealerships here in the Raleigh/Cary area and finally decided to go with Leith Honda on Capital Blvd.

I purchased an '07 EX 4wd in Glacier Blue. OTD price was 24,162. Broken down it's:

    23,000 for the car
    3% tax
74 or 79 for tags (don't remember exactly)
    398.00 for document processing.

I also added on a cargo net for 50.00 but ended up getting that for free due to a teeny tiny scratch on the interior of the driver side door. :D:D:D
  • tarajtaraj Member Posts: 3
You called rather then working online? Was that personal preference or did you find that more effective (phone)? Did you find the dealerships were willing to compete against each other? You purchased an EX not an EX-L with Nav correct? Thanks for the info!
  • zswxzswx Member Posts: 55

Just got a quote in MA. for the '07 CRV LX AWD for $20,537.
    MSRP $22,435.
Just want to share this info. with others.
  • naborsnabors Member Posts: 26
    Alamocity,

Thanks very much for your response.

I see on their site, they claim to a have a "way" to get past the typical internet sales reps (who they say are the most inexperienced at the dealership) who you'd probably get when you ask for a price quote, who just quote a standard price - not the best price. They claim they show you how to get to the person at the dealership that can pull the trigger on a great deal based on the dealer's individual situation with end-of-month quotas, manufacturer incentives, etc.

Is this true? What kind of "inside" information do they offer in terms of "speaking to the right people" at the dealership?

Are their form letters for obtaining price quotes anything special?

Thanks so much for your help.
  • tarajtaraj Member Posts: 3
I just received this quote from a MD car dealership for a 07 CRV EX-L with Nav. Does this seem like my best price or may I hope for better? It is the lowest of 3 quotes so far but the OTD price is still higher then I would like. Any suggestions? Thanks!

    Car $ 26527
    Destination $ 595
    Processing fees $49
    Tax $ 1358.55
    Tag $ 195
    Total $ 28724.55
  • kiawahkiawah Member Posts: 3,666
    Thats great, right at invoice.

I've never found Leith to be in the ballpark from a price point of view. I always give them first shot to meet my price (always a reasonable price that ultimately other dealers have accepted).
  • welldonewelldone Member Posts: 15
    Nabors,

I bought Consumer Reports Bottomline Pricing, it was a total waste. The information I was given was incomplete, worst than you could find online for free. Their junk service was even missing available rebates.

Yes, Edmunds is a good source.
  • adamantliadamantli Member Posts: 17
i am in the market for a 2007 Honda CR-V LX 4WD. Two dealers here in long island rejected my offer price of $20922 plus tax and DMV fee. Sales representatives seem accepted my offer, but two sales managers both said no.
instead, another sales rep. let me test 2008 LX AWD model, but the lowest price he can offer is 21322 plus tax and DMV fee.
    any comments on my offer?
  • isellhondasisellhondas Member Posts: 20,342
Any comments? Well, yeah, it was obviously too low or you would be driving your new CRV.

    What, exactly do you want?

If they offered you a 2008 LX 4WD for 21,322, that was about 300.00 more than their invoice.

    These aren't distressed merchandise.

    That was an EXCELLENT price.

Why would they want to lose money on a popular car?
