I live in the Bay Area and am looking at the 2008 CRV AWD EXL w/ NAVI. I want a good deal and have time to wait for it. How do you get the invoice price?
I'm in the Chicago area and I'm about to pull the trigger on a 2WD CRV EX but not sure...I'm paying cash and want to purchase this weekend.
The best offer via internet pricing I got was $21,013 + doc, fees and tax (8.5% in Chicago) which comes to: $23,106.
Is this a good deal?
Two other things I noticed.
1.) The dealer is listing invoice on this vehcile at 22,249. From what I've read, the correct invoice price for this model is 21,359. Would this be correct? How much does invoice price vary from region to region?
2.) Not sure if I should spring an extra $1,100 for a 4WD version. Sorry if I'm opening a can of worms here.
The weather in Chicago is as bad as here in Boston! All wheel drive is really helpful in the snow. Plus for resale/trade in I would think AWD would be popular in Chicago. I just bought an AWD EX, picked it up Tuesday. I paid $22,000 plus $298 doc fee, tax/title. So the new 2008's have definitely gone down in price in anticipation of the 2009's coming out.
Yes, you got a great deal!!! Where did you go? I just got a quote from carsdirect.com for a 2008 EXL 4WD for $28,000 OTD. If I can get your price, I would get the NAVI.
Dan, the 21,359 is close to dealer cost, not invoice, the difference is the holdback of about $689. You've got a pretty good deal there. Within 200 to 300 of the lowest I've seen, unless there are hidden fees you're not telling us about (the doc fee is limited to $150 in IL).
As for AWD, cost wise it's a wash, unless you can get it for less than $1100, and even then if you don't need it, why buy it? Since the AWD equipped vehicles are more plentiful up north, sometimes there's only about $800 difference to the consumer after negotiations. More parts, more things to go wrong, but a lot of people DO need it. Only you can make that decision.
The add-ons like protection and pin stripe are already on the vehicles on the lot. Are any of the items mentioned above negotiable? He said that the $1,641 discount is really good. No 0.9% financing available on this car since it is very popular.
I took delivery this past Tuesday on my new 2008 CR-V EX AWD from Boch Honda in Norwood MA fror $22,000 plus $298 doc fee plus Mass. tax/title. So I think that the prices you are being quoted in Kansas City are high. Boch is lower than the other dealers around here but I had two other dealers offer $23,000 for the same vehicle the month prior.
I'm originally from PA, now in the Boston area and sometimes take the train (Amtrak) to visit. So you can order your CR-V from Boch Honda and take the train up here to take delivery if you can't find a local dealer who will come down $1000.00. I bought the CR-V EX AWD (4WD) for $22,000 plus $298 doc fee plus Mass. taxes/title this past week.
Bought this last night -- San Antonio TX area -- good dealership - hardly any pressure --
2008 CRV-EX L w/ NAV. MSRP 27,890.
Only add on was some Bogus "Protection Package" for $495
Sothat bought the car MSRP price up to to 28395.
Dealer sold me the car for 24,995 before TTL.
so bascilly i got 3400 off MSRP
No other fees but TTL - No doc fee, or any other bogus fees.
Finance guy almost cotst me and the dealership the sale though -- he would not -- and I mean NOT - no matter howmuch i told him NO - stop trying to sell me the stupid extended warranty for $1500. he kept telling me that I was making a killing on the price of the car and that I could easily afford the Extended Warranty package. Finally when i stood up to leave he got scared - and i mean scared - i told him thats it -- I'm gone .. and got my papers and as actually going to go and find the general mgr and complain .... 25 minutes after that -- i am driving off in a new car...
No DOC fee and they waived the Destination Charges
It's funny. I spoke with these guys and i had a quote of approximately the same from another dealer and they said "something must be fishy" to get such a low price. BTW edmunds says invoice is $25955 yest a few dealers have stated invoice is $26200 (independent). So is Edmunds wrong? BTW that is a great deal. $800 below invoice
I received a few quotes online. It took a bit of pushing but got about 5 dealers to give me a breakdown.
I had a few questions before proceeding with the purchase
One dealer was approximately $1500 below invoice Two dealers were approximately $700 below invoice One dealer was at invoice One was approximately $200 over invoice
The one dealer is the closest to my home. The red flag to me is how he can be so far below everyone else? I asked multiple questions and it seems legitimate. What sort of "tricks" can they pull?
Once I decide on a dealer, what do I need to know when I am there? I am not a "car" person so will need help. When you guys purchased your cars, did you have someone knowledgeable with you to give the car a once over
I too was very interested in the CR-V EX-L. After visiting dealerships & doing the home work, I decided to give the Outlander SE a "look". I wanted to remove all doubt that the CR-V EX-L was the clear winner for me.
Bottom line, I purchased the 2008 Outlander SE 4WD, bluetooth, cargo cover & navigation system - OTD $27,100. The Outlander had everything I wanted in a SUV & more. The warranty was also a big plus.
I am not here to change anyone's mind, just a suggestion to compare if you already haven't.
The lowest quote I have is $24,289 out the door (including all fees and 7.75% tax)
sound good?
essentially: $24,289 - tax ~$1,747 - tags ~$220 ------------------------- ~$22,322 is what i estimated as the sales price. i did not take into account any other fees like destination or doc since I only requested out the door pricing.
I got an internet price quote of 24772 for the above model that I want to purchase. This price is lower than the invoice quoted on edmunds.com. I wonder how much is the dealer hold back. What does any one thinks? This is without tag, tax, license, registration, and accessory fee. With all these fee, I am looking at additional 9%. The only accessory I want would be the wheel lock. I am giving my 08 EX-L without Navi to my brother so I am back on the market for a one with Navi.
Just be careful. I also got a similar price and was told these are bait and switch deals. The accessory fee is added afterward since most cars have the pro package
We decided to go for a CRV with Nav. Did research on this thread and came up with numbers and sent color combination to few dealers.
Here is what I paid Lute Riley Honda, Richardson: $26,600 + TTL which came to $28,492 OTD. Add-ons were wheel locks, mud guards, and cargo tray.
Lot of negotiation occurred. Dealer said that he could not go below this price since he would lose money on the deal, and he did not want to do that since CRV is a much wanted vehicle. Later, the financier later showed me a screen where it said that they made a net of $13 on the deal. Not sure if all that was accurate.
That seems a little high for a 2WD without Navi. I paid 28400 OTD for a AWD with Navigation in Northern VA. That price included the wheel locks, cargo tray, mud guards and a pin stripe.
The title was misleading in my earlier post - I have changed it now. We did pick up the CRV with a Nav. It is quite possible that it was not the absolute best deal but for that itself I had to undergo a lot of negotiation and wait time, and the dealer reaction made me think that I was not far away from their least price.
We just signed the papers on a 2008 CRV LX 2WD and wanted to share my price with everyone for comparison. After a bit of haggling, we got the dealer's lowest out-the-door price of $21,900 and went home to think about it. I called later and asked if they could do it for $21,600 OTD and include window tinting, cargo tray, and retractable cargo cover (which are the only accessories I cared about). They agreed so we went back and gave them a check.
Comparing prices is near impossible when they want to add on various taxes and fees. That's why we went in with an OTD price in mind. Here are the numbers on my contract:
sale price $19,485.63 "customer services" $499 (amount already pre-printed on the contract) total including tax, license, registration $21,600
The invoice price with destination fee was $19,927 so (with the customer service fee added) we paid about $60 over invoice and got around $600 in accessories included. The best thing is that I chose what I really wanted rather than getting some random mud guards and pin stripes added by the dealer. Sure it makes you feel better when they add in a bunch of stuff, but if it isn't something that you'd pay to add for yourself then it's hard to quantify the actual value. Who really needs wheel locks on the LX wheels anyway?
I'm not sure we were compensated for the fact that it is an end-of-season '08, but I plan on keeping it for a while so that's probably OK. I had to go with the black interior instead of the gray that I prefer, but I got my first choice exterior paint (royal blue).
Nancyh2, that's a good attitude to have. There will always be pricing higher and lower somewhere--enjoy your car. You didn't state where you are located so it's difficult to say what a reasonable price is. One thing for buyers to consider, however, is that they shouldn' t accept fees and charges even if they are printed on the contract, unless they are certain those charges are customary in their area. That $499 "customer services fee" seems quite high and suspicisous, even if it includes the doc fees.
Hi, I live in Austin, TX and am interested to know about buying experience/lease info/price paid for 2008 Honda CRV EX L w/ NAV. I went to a dealer yesterday and was quoted a seemingly ridiculous price of almost $500/ month for a 36 month term incl a $1000 trade in. Thanks for any info!
Hi Dschaeffer. I would highly recommend not even discussing payments. That's where they will get you everytime. Do your research, the MSRP on that vehicle is 27500 (I think). Like some of the previous posts did, tell the dealer what you are willing to spend. I live in DFW area and all of the dealers that I talked to could not negotiate much. They say it is a hot selling car right now and can't even keep the EXLs on the lot. I got the EXL w/Navi, for right under 29000. I can't remember exactly now, but it did have several add ons. Many we didn't want and a few we did. Good luck.
yesterday I bought CR-V EX AWD for $21,800(on road $23400) guys, is this the good price ?.......Boch came down to $21800 from $24K after 1 month negotation........but fianlly Boston Hurb did price match with Boch.
Ghosty, you got an excellent deal on your car, but you're being a little confusing with your pricing. You really didn't get $3500 off MSRP. That MSRP was inflated with a "bogus" protection package, as you called it. You got closer to $3000 off MSRP, and that was for a NAV version, which has a very high markup. I'm not tryng to diminish your good result, but it can be dangerous to generalize because everyone might think they should aim for $3500 off MSRP, and that's not true, or acheivable.
At this point in time, however, people should be shooting for within a few hundred dollars of dealer cost (not invoice). Otherwise they'd be better off waiting for an '09. The dealer costs are within a few hundred dollars of the best pricing on this board at this point in time:
This pricing includes destination, but is before taxes, title, doc fees, and any other miscellaneous fees. Don't pay any fees that aren't reasonable and customary for your region or state. Not everyone in every region will be able to get this pricing, but they should be able to come close.
thats an excellent price. i paid 24,239 out the door for the same car. subtracting all taxes my true vehicle price was around 22,500 so you beat me by 700 bucks. congrats!
btw..no one other dealer within 100 miles would beat 24,239 out the door in my area so i hopefully got the cheapest i can find for n. california, sacramento.
I just picked up my 2008 EX-L from Sons Honda in Griffin GA this past Saturday for $24,500 OTD with me paying sales tax of 6% back in my home state of FL. We were visiting near there and worked a deal through the internet and phone. Add ons included in the price were moon roof visor, mud guards and "paint protectant package". Great car for the money.
Were was this special APR announced? I don't see anything about it on Honda's Website or here on Edmunds. Might be just enough incentive to go for an 08 instead of waiting for an 09.
Dixiedog, that seems like a very good deal. Would you mind give me the detail price they gave you, and also the sales person's name & phone # to my email jsmith@spricate.endjunk.com.
McGrath Honda of St Charles, IL Experience: Everyone was fantastic! Very highly recommended!
2008 CR-V EX-L AWD Honda Invoice $24,837.00 (no destination fee) MSRP: $26,700.00 (no destination fee)
Dealer's base price (no destination fee): $24,314.00 Destination fee: $670.00 Base price + destination fee: $24,984.00 Options: -- Protection package - wheel locks, cargo tray, mudflaps: $0.00 -- Free car washes for life Tax (7%): $1,761.00 Transferred plates: $105.00 Documentaion fees: $150.00 Other "BS" dealer fees: None!
Final OTD price: $27,000.00 (no financing)
This final price was the initial offer from the sales manager, and was cheaper in OTD price by $200+ compared to 8 other local Honda dealerships. Also, he was the only one to offer any included options, and the Protection Package is variably priced from $500 to $800 from what I've seen. There was no haggling involved, and there was no funny business when it came time to finalizing the deal -- greatly appreciated considering how much of a headache this whole process can be.
The special APR is now listed on the Honda Website (you can even print out a certificate :confuse: ). 1.9% for 24-36 months & 3.9% for 37-60 months. Looks like that can save me between $800 - $1000 over the life of the loan (depending on how much I decide to put down). Since I plan to own the CR-V for a long time, that might be enough to get an 08 over an 09.
2009 AWD Ex-L With Nav $37,500-? i GOT THIS QUOTE FROM A DEALER HERE IN ST. LOUIS. No trade-in.
With NAV, MUD GUARDS,ROOF RACK, BODY MOLDING, LEATHER STEERING WHEEL, REMOTE START, COMPASS MIRROR, LUGGAGE RACK, CARGO AREA COVER, ALL SEASON MATS, CARGO TRAY, REAR ARMREST TRAY, 17"5-Spoke Chrome-Look Alloy Wheels, Color-Matched Door-Edge Guards, FOG LIGHTS, Bass Speaker System, Backup Sensors. The wheels are a pricey option. Don't think I'm forgetting anything. Is $37,500 too much? St. Louis area. Anybody know if the 2009 has bluetooth?
That's quite an expensive vehicle, loaded up with all the options.
Considering you can get the base model for low 20's, you've got a vehicle that is almost twice the base cost. You're in a range of total dollars that you may want to consider other brands.

After some research, I have decided to go for a 2008 CRV EX-L 2WD without Nav in the DFW (Dallas / Fort Worth) area.
Here is what I got from my first dealer after a 2-hr session with him:
MSRP: 25,500
Destination and Handling: 670
Protection (wheel locks, mud guards, cargo net): 699
Pin Stripe: 299
Discount: -1,641
Sales Tax (6.5%): 1,638
Tag/Registration: 59
Smog: 21
Title: 33

No DOC fee and they waived the Destination Charges
MSRP is $21,370
Car selling price: $19,450 (dest. included)
total out of door: 20450 ( 3% NC Tax here)
Got better prices from other dealers but don't wanna bother driving 1-2 hours just for saving $100 or so, Auto Honda is the closest on to my home..
I had a few questions before proceeding with the purchase
One dealer was approximately $1500 below invoice
