That's true except this poster was from Seattle where we do get snow and ice sometimes. Like right now in fact!

In San Diego it wouldn't be necessary unless someone is a skier I suppose. The gas savings is minimal.

Glacier Blue 4WD EX-L, the wife loves it so far...misses lighted vanity mirror and power driver's seat though...getting about 22 MPG in combined city/hilly highway driving after about 200 miles.

Hey folks - I've been lurking a few months and have gotten some good info, so I thought I'd post my experience this evening.

My husband and I started talking to Darrell Waltrip Honda in Franklin, TN in early December.

This evening we went in and made an offer of 4% over invoice (not including dest charge or TTL) for a total of $19823.44.

The dealer came back with a response of $21456 .. they took off $200 for some fee that I can't remember. The cost didn't include options, but I was essentially told that the CRV would come w/wheel locks, pin stripes, cargo tray, blah blah blah...

Anyway, after the dealer came down to $21256, I told him we weren't interested and we left.

(This was after the sales manager proceeded to tell us that the demand was so great and supply so small that they could sell our selection for more $$...he wasn't nasty, or anything, just matter-of-fact..)

So, in the end, our prices weren't that far apart...so I think I will try a few other dealerships and see where that takes me.

    Hope that info helps someone...thanks!!

Hi all - just want to share that I bought a 2007 Honda CR-V EX-L with navigation at Sheehy Honda for $27,110 including appearance package (wheel locks, pin stripe, etc.) and exclusive of destination and TTL. Interestingly, I had planned to buy the same car at Brown's in Arlington because they had more selection, but they were not willing to go much lower than MSRP. I also got a deluxe deal on my trade-in (more than KBB - although they did initially try to low-ball the offer BIG TIME.) I figure I could probably save a little more in 6 months from now by waiting, but my trade-in would be worth that much less, so I guess it all equals out!

    Nearmsp,
$1,300 for leather only, $1,800 for leather with 2 front seats heated. I opted not to have them put in the heated seats. I was thinking I could buy a heating pad at Walmart for $20 and put it on top of leather in the winter and take it out in the spring. :D
Just ask the salesman about anything you want. You'll see, they will do anything just to steal another (happy) customer from Honda, if that's what you want. Again, if you opt for CR-V - good luck, that's a nice car. But mine is nice too. I love it. Just don't pay MSRP FGS!
  • banjolaya1banjolaya1 Member Posts: 88
Well, the pricing is perceived as arrogant, not the dealers although the salesman I had the pleasure to work with was not far from that description. I understand, it was a cold day, Saturday night when I visited the dealership, maybe he was having problems with his girlfriend or god knows what, but that guy was so cold, in 30 minutes he didn't find enough strength in himself to produce one single smile!
Back to pricing being perceived as arrogant, I must agree with you. CR-V's are definitely worth the money. Just not that much money... ;)
  • isellhondasisellhondas Member Posts: 20,342
Just not the market on these cars. These aren't "invoice up" cars. Well, actually, I guess they are but certainly not at 4%.

Maybe in a couple of years this will happen but not at this time.
  • isellhondasisellhondas Member Posts: 20,342
I'm sure there may be some arrogance on the part of some dealers but some customers can get downright testy too when we won't accept their low offers.

I had an email arrive from a woman yesterday who was terribly upset with a nearby Honda dealer. She had a lot of nasty things to say about them. They had the nerve to offer her 500.00 less then MSRP for an EXL CRV!!!

I tried to gently let her know supplies on these are non-existant and that she should have jumped on that deal.

I have to disagree with you. These defiantly ARE worth every nickle of MSRP and they will hold resale values like no other.

If 12 honda dealerships in MN are sent requests for quotes and only 4 respond to give a quote, I would think it is arrogance derived from having the privilege to sell a model (EX-L) that is very much in short supply. I sent out a quote for a RAV4, I got a quote the same night and then a week later Toyota corporate office sent me an e-mail asking if I did receive a response from the dealership. Honda corporate office apparently drops the ball here, and does not think Honda corporate image is affected by how the dealers behave with prospective customer inquiries. Definitely not a six sigma company like Toyota!

Regarding 75 day waiting period for an EX-L, you think you could provide a customer in less time than this for a color not "on-order" or in-stock? Ahmm, I am wondering if the dealer that took my booking against a deposit is pulling a fast one on me..
  • nearmspnearmsp Member Posts: 90
    thanks banjolaya
I am definitely test driving a RAV4 this weekend. Do you think Honda dealerships will offer something similar too? I could then look at buying an LX CR-V and adding after market heated leather seats!
  • phisherphisher Member Posts: 175
Actually he's from Minnesota, and if you buy a honda because you expect it to run 100,000 to 150,000 miles or more the gas savings really add up. 2WD might not be right for everyone but there are sure a lot of people out there that don't need 4WD.
  • isellhondasisellhondas Member Posts: 20,342
    That's true!

Last month we had a guy get transferred here from So. California. He had a decked out Lincoln Navagator 2WD!

He didn't need it either but his company transferred him here!

Talk about saleproof! The Lincoln dealer laughed when we called for a buy bid.

I can't imagine anyone in Minnesota buying a 2WD...as I look out my window at the falling snow dreding my drive to work this morning! I HATE it!

Did you get the cargo tray or cargo cover; I just bought LX and was told cargo tray wasn't an accessory I could get (I believe it's standard on the EXs); I settled for cargo cover.
  • snoopy21snoopy21 Member Posts: 114
cliffb, these are three different things. the cargo tray covers the floor of the cargo area while the cargo cover hides the items in the cargo area from view (see http://handaaccessories.com/crvint07.html for photos and descriptions). the item that is standard on the EX and EX-L trims but not the LXs is the dual-deck cargo shelf which can be special ordered from your honda parts department for around $362 or so.
  • brianjandreaubrianjandreau Member Posts: 67
I just ordered an EXL in silver, beige, or white. The dealership told me that they should have one within three weeks. But, contrary to the experience others are having, I was quoted $200 over invoice.
  • isellhondasisellhondas Member Posts: 20,342
If they have any others for that price, we would buy them!

    Thomasf,

Go to this web site it's cheaper than the one the other person gave you for the same thing. Plus, instructions on a PDF. file http://www.bernardiparts.com/category.aspx?categoryID=313.

They currently have one in red, but we don't want that color. The dealership is Lee Honda in Auburn, Maine. You could google them to find their website.

I started the process by contacting several dearlships in my area with the offer of $23857 for an EXL. One replied that that was rediculous. I replied that I knew the dealer holdback was $780 (from Consumer Reports) and that I'd be willing to pay $24857, which would give them a reasonable profit of one thousand dollars when you factor in the holdback. He said yes to my offer. I then threw his offer to the other dealerships, and Lee Honda wrote back with a quote of $24837. Granted, they were only $20 less, but they were closer and my family had bought from them in the past.

Charlies Honda in Augusta, Maine, the third dealership I contacted, wrote to me agreeing to the $24857 as well. They have a glacier blue one right now.

I don't know where you live, but you could certianly contact them via their website. Let me know if you have any more questions.

Write checks for every one we could buy for that price.

We are (by far) the largest dealer in our state and we have ZERO EXL's. Your market must be much different!

BTW, holdack is NOT profit but I'm sure not going to open that can of worms again!
  • brianjandreaubrianjandreau Member Posts: 67
I imagine that holdback is for overhead expenses, etc. But I also imagine that it's designed so that dealerships are assured a profit. It sounds like you would know better than me, but what else would hold back be for?

Either way, I'm definitely happy with the deal I got.
  • isellhondasisellhondas Member Posts: 20,342
You should be happy! I just hope nothing changes when you get there!
  • kaiserinkaiserin Member Posts: 2
I understand. I am in sales, and we turn down deals ALL the time that aren't profitable enough, so I can understand why I got turned down...but, I'm just not willing to pay MSRP, or close to that.
  • yangdariyangdari Member Posts: 20
Don't believe the dealer hype about CRV and EXL shortage. I went to a local Honda dealer this Sunday (Bay Area) and they had 18 CRVs on the lot. Out of the 18 at least half where EXL models (many with navigation).

IMO, if there is any shortage it is local and will likely be resolved in the very near future. Several people on this forum already reported getting the car close to invoice. CRV prices will likely only go down from here. My guess is that you can buy below invoice later this year.
  • isellhondasisellhondas Member Posts: 20,342
    Don't believe the dealer hype?

We are the largest volume Honda dealer in nine states.

We have ***two*** CRV's on our lot. Both of them are LX models, the least popular.

    Is that "hype"?

We have some in transit and about half of theose are already sold.

    Below invoice? Don't think so!
  • thomasfthomasf Member Posts: 10
We got the cargo tray with our LX...it's not included in the LX model.

Does anyone know if you can get one of those cargo shelves that come standard on the EX and EX-L models?

This forum helped me back in 1999 in getting me a Odyssey EX.

Now, my experience to get a CR-V in Atlanta, GA. I have put a $500 deposit for a red CR-V 2WD EX.
    Dealership: Honda Carland.
    Price: $22,972
    Doc Fee: $89
    Tax (7%): $1,614
    Title Fee: $18
    Lemon Law fee: $3

    Total: $24,696

Includes splash guards, pin striping & floor mats ( I guess floor mats are standard )

Scheduled for Feb End / Early March delivery. I went through AAA Auto Buying Program.

Has any one got a better deal in the Atlanta area?

    Thanks

I'm trying to get a feel for the market in Boston on the CRV's. 20,500 is a great price, which model did you go with? How did you like dealing with Tewksbury? Were there any other dealerships that you visited? Thanks in advance.

    Hi!

I am scheduled to pick up my new 2007 Honda CR-V AWD EX-L w/o Nav (Beige Metallic) this coming Friday and appreciate having a checklist on what to look for and make sure of when taking delivery at the dealer.

    Your inputs are most welcomed.

    Thanks in advance,

    A checklist?

It's already had an intensive Pre Delivery Inspection done but just make sure it doesn't have any damage that may have happened after it was delivered.

    I'm sure it'll be fine.

What is the approximate odometer mileage that should show up on new Vehicle?
  • isellhondasisellhondas Member Posts: 20,342
Oh, when they come off the trucks they usually have 3-5 miles on them. The techs drive them as part of the PDI, they get moved around etc. Usually 10-25 miles is pretty normal.

  • nearmspnearmsp Member Posts: 90
Would any dealer use it for a few test drives as well (within the 25 mile range you mention)? At what mileage would a buyer call it NOT "brand new"?

I had recently had test driven a couple of Subaru's and they had odometer readings of around 10 miles and I would not be surprised if these were later sold as new. I could get the strong smell of burnt oil. I don't know if the dealership had even put in the oil after arrival. I would presume they would ship these vehicles without oil or gas?
  • isellhondasisellhondas Member Posts: 20,342
A few miles shouldn't be a big deal. Demo cars with 5000 miles are sold as "new" cars.

Of course those Subarus were sold as new cars and I have no isea what you smelled. Cars come with oil in them!

I once had a woman test drive an Accord twice. When she returned to buy, she demanded I sell her a car that hadn't been test driven. I think the car she had driven had 19 miles on it but she wanted a "new" one with 10 miles.

People can be so funny sometimes!
  • snoopy21snoopy21 Member Posts: 114
also, if the vehicle was a dealer trade (your dealership swapped cars with another dealership to get you the color & trim you wanted), they drive those from one dealership to the other so there will also be those miles on the odometer.
  • snoopy21snoopy21 Member Posts: 114
man, you nailed my mother-in-law perfectly! she did this when i helped her buy her camry a few months back but she wanted one with zero miles on it. the one she ended up buying had 9 miles on it (3 of which she put on herself) and she wasn't happy about it LOL
  • isellhondasisellhondas Member Posts: 20,342
They get driven at the factory and the PDI technician has to drive them to make sure everything is OK.

Sheese, what difference can a few miles make!
  • squasheadsquashead Member Posts: 19
Bernardi is a great dealership. I take my Odyssey there for service. I was there last night, but the gyst of the experience was CRVs are leaving the lot quickly. We were looking at an Accord, but may have to consider the CRV due to back seat space for kids and car seats. I have been hearing they dont discount much from Sticker for the CRV, but if you did $200 over invoice, you did very well. Did you do it via the internet or in person, if you can, which salesperson? I May be in there soon, depending upon the outcome of my Subaru's transmission check this afternoon.

    tks
  • squasheadsquashead Member Posts: 19
Amen to that message. When I was buying my Odyssey in 2000, all dealerships were asking for $500 deposits, but none would guarantee when delivery would occur. I did not comply saying "I dont have $500 to leave at all the Honda dealerships around Boston" and the sales manager went the other direction. Later when I was in a dealer showroom, a customer was in a heated fight to get his $500 check back that the salesperson could not find in the safe. The tone got very hostile and for good reason. If you trust the dealership, you are taking a risk regardless and still may have to fight. if you dont know them, dont even bother. Selling a car with the same VIN is a lame excuse, somebody paid them more for it, and they sold it for more money to them. It happens. its like getting your keys back from a salesperson when negotiating a trade in, funny how long it takes to find them

"I could get the strong smell of burnt oil. I don't know if the dealership had even put in the oil after arrival. I would presume they would ship these vehicles without oil or gas?"

That was most likely the engine breaking in. My 2003 CR-V had a strong smell for the first 400 or so miles. Apparently it is a coating that is on the engine to protect it, which burns off. Not sure about Subies, though.
  • isellhondasisellhondas Member Posts: 20,342
Really? I don't seem to notice this much on Hondas. I do smell the coating on the exhaust systems when I get out of the new cars.

    Hi,
I've been soliciting quotes online for a 2WD LX in southern California. I'm flexible on color, though I prefer Royal Blue. The best price I've gotten so far is $20195 incl destination. Does that seem reasonable? Anyone getting better in the area?

    Thanks!

I put a $100 deposit on a 2007 CR-V EX-L in Silver the week before X-mas and the dealership told me it would be ready by the end of February. I have the purchase order which is $24, 542. I asked the dealer if this included destination charges. The dealer told me there is no destination charge, just TT+L. The dealer call me yesterday and told me it wouldn't be ready until somewhere because there were so many people before me on the list. Now the dealer is telling the price is $24,542 plus TT+L AND freight charges. What is the difference between delivery and freight charges. They sound the same to me.

Yes, I do with my 1060-879 all time record against the Red Sox, 26-6 World Championships & my 40 -11 Pennents. That's why I bought the CR-V so I can carry all this stuff around to show the Red Sox fan in "Red Sox Nation" What rivalry!!! It doesn't look like one to me.

    Drive Safely ;)
  • squasheadsquashead Member Posts: 19
Yeah, but our rings are shinier, since they are only 2 years old, your last one is already tarnished. He who wins last, wins best right? B  ut you are right, there is no rivalry. BTW, June 2-3 I will be at Fenway, how safely I drive home depends on the outcome.

Atamian Honda was the place we visited and in general was a good experience.
  • hylandhyland Member Posts: 1
According to what you are saying, you paid them $1000 PLUS they got the $780 holdback! What you should have done is offer them $220 over invoice, and THAT amount combined with the $780 holdback they will receive from Honda, would give them $1000 profit.
