Why the lack of posts on this forum? I posted my ideas on what I would like to see on the 08 MO s. Never posted!! Is every one very happy W/ the Muranos now.
  • baldwin3baldwin3 Member Posts: 121
?You posted and it did not post? As far as this 05 MO owner is concerned, the car has been great to 30K..which is right now. TPS at 7K only problem, fixed 3 hr/Warranty.
As far as improvements I would like: cabin noise from engine/tires is loud in 05; A/C seems rather impotent...otherwise 21.5 level roads at 70mph with A/C on which is not bad.

finally get the right motor mount replaced by my mechanic. He said only the right motor mount is bad, causing engine to move to much and a clicking sound sometimes. cost is $350 (some shops quoted $400 or higher for the right motor mount)

It drives *much* better without the engine rocking back and forth. The vibration I was experiencing before is now gone - car is smooth under hard acceleration now. Hope the other mounts hold, so I don't have to spend a grand to replace them.

Nissan need to do a better job on quality - for a vehicle this age to need motor mount replaced is no fun.

    I have a 2003 Murano-AWD. Has anyone replaced the tail-light bulb themselves ?
The bottom tail light works, but when you apply the brake the light, the light does not get brighter.

How do I get to the bulb ?

    Thanks

I am from round rock texas. three teachers yesterday died driving a nissan murano. They said on the news that the car hydroplaned driving down the hill. I didn't find out until today that one of the teachers, the driver, had this happen to her twice this year before yesterday. She was able to control it before and sadly enough, she wasn't this time. Has anyone had problems with hydroplanning with the murano. I am doing research now, because something isn't right. This was a fairly new car, thinking 2006.
  • mike1111mike1111 Member Posts: 93
That sucks for sure.I have only had mine 07 SL AWD for a few months but I have driven it in the rain and have not noticed any problems.Seems pretty solid to me.That being said hydroplaning can happen to pretty much any car.I have driven cars (Escort) where when it rained it was like being on skates.
  • baldwin3baldwin3 Member Posts: 121
I must jump in and say first that Texas has had so much rain that 13 people have died in 10 days from flooding and police are using personal water craft to rescue people. Having said that, hydroplaning is simply a phenomenon in which a vehicle's tires are not in contact with the pavement, and control is lost, often resulting in a sideways rollover. Cars sitting still do not hydroplane. The basic factors are l. water depth 2. speed 3. tire quality 4. vehicle weight. It goes without saying that of them all, speed trumps and right here I'll say it is not a Murano Maintenence and Repair problem. Period.

Can the center rear seat belt be retracted somehow or removed all together, it gets in the field of vision when I look in the center rear view mirror...
  • buppersbuppers Member Posts: 25
Page 1-18 of the owners manual shows you how to stow the center rear seat belt. Even with these instructions, it is a real pia to figure out how to do it. Once done, however, it is completely out of your field of vision.

For the past two years I have had intermittent problems with going thru a LOT of oil between oil changes. Two months ago at my 60,000 mile service, the dealership told me the "o" ring was leaking and it was replaced. At that time, the engine and oil were "flushed." On the sheet which detailed the work it said this "helps reduce harmful exhaust emissions."

Earlier this week I took the '03 to get inspected and it failed emissions testing. The person at the inspection station said cars manufactured after a certain date (into which my Murano falls)are mandated to pass emissions testing for at least 8 years after manufacture. Does anyone know if this is true? I looked in my Owner's manual and was referred to the supplemental manual which had a lot of legalspeak which didn't really answer the question. In any case, it's going to the dealer for a free fix, since despite their assurances that the car was "like new" when I picked it up after service last time, I still need to add at least a quart of oil between changes, on a four year old, well maintained vehicle.

Has anyone had any problems with their drivers seat? A couple of days ago I noticed when I got in the car the seat seemed to be leaning towards the window, just a bit.Yesterday I got in the car and the seat actually rocked from side to side, just a bit.I brought it to the dealer and they ordered parts ($260,labor not included)! I have 50,000 miles and the super premium extended warranty and it is considered an my problem. Any thoughts,is this a fair deal? Should a cars' seat have to be replaced at 50k?No one has abused this car,I treat it as my favorite thing.
  • homeounerhomeouner Member Posts: 145
RE: seat needs parts; That seat should be covered by warrantee. I also purchased the extended warranty from the Nissan dealer where I purchased the Murano new. Its a shame the warrenty is not printed on softer paper as thats about the only practical use for it. My contract has a list of covered items, I will look if seats are covered. That sound to me that the dealer is try ing to crawfish out of his responsibility.

I am researching warranties for 05 Murano which I will purchase Jan 08 as lease expires and my experience with the car had been excellent. Going to www.warrantydirect.com, it is frustrating to find only ONE company that sells in California, and the policy is junk. I may have to do the dealer policy, which is $1,500 (to 150,000 and 7 years) but covers all but wear and tear. Anybody out there with good or bad warranty experience? I can't keep a car this complex without one...
  • michaelscaimichaelscai Member Posts: 75
got it stowed away, yeah, not very clear instruction.. seem one side - the 'belt tongue' - still loose after following the instruction. Looks good now :)

My 2003 Murano has only 37,000 miles. So far it's been nearly problem free..but I am now told the motor mounts need to be replaced..for $700. Is this a harbinger of more problems to come? I really like it and have recommended it to several friends, while warning them about the premium fuel.
    Thanks

Have 2006 Murano Xenon Headlights, kinda of bugging me the driver side headlight shines about 15 feet or so shorter than the passenger side headlight. Can really see this in the #3 position. Dealer said that is the design of the lights and nothing wrong. If that is the case on all the Murano cars then I guess I can accept this. Is that the case? Wanted to test drive one on the lot but dosn't get dark early enough yet.

    Hello ljette,

My 2003 Murano had the same problem as you describe. I just took it in to the dealer to have the problem fixed. My dealer is covering it, since I had the car in for the same problem while under warranty. Dealer supposedly ordered parts at that time, but never called me back to fix the problem.
Nissan published a service bulletin on this.

    http://www.nissanhelp.com/Bulletins/Murano/2003/3.htm
    Service Bulletin Num : 05043
Date of Bulletin: JUN 1, 2005 View Document

Summary: 2003-2005 NISSAN MURANO; DRIVERS SEAT NOISE AND / OR ROCKS BACK AND FORTH

    Hello vamurano,

I have the same year, and same mileage as your Murano. Just wondering if you had noticed any noises or issues with motor mounts ?
I did not buy an extended warranty. I really like the Murano. Consumer Reports, reports the newer Murano's have even a better repair record and less problems than the 2003. Considering buying a new one, and getting rid of the 2003
  • michaelscaimichaelscai Member Posts: 75
I'm feeling a slight loss of power, and worse mileage after I had the right motor mount replaced - used to get 20.5 mpg or higher on average, now only getting 19.5 mpg after 1 full tank.

Could they have messed things up when they replaced the motor mount? I suspose the engine/some wires have to be removed to replace the motor mount and something might have gotten loose in that process. Anything I should re-check? like spark plug wires and anything else?

Hi - I know this is strange posting about heating problems when its 90 degrees but just recently found this board. I have an 06 and when it is cold out and the climate control is set above 70 the heat works fine from the front vents but only intermittently from the rear side vents. I called my dealer and they said they would look at it but never had a chance to bring it in. The ac blows from the rear vents all the time when its hot out. I have a toddler so I'm constantly checking the rear vents. Anyone else notice a problem like this?

Hi I have a 06 murano and the front brakes squeak when applied during reversing, when slighly applied went to the dealer but they say it is normal . Does anyone have this problem .
  • mike1111mike1111 Member Posts: 93
Yup it's known issue with the Murano.I rented a 06 for a long drive and the next morning the brakes howled.Thats the best way I could put it.It was LOUD.I loved the ride so much I bought a 07 SL AWD.The brakes on the 07 are better as far as loud BUT they still squeak when I hit the brakes. It don't happen all the time but it sucks when it does.I'm thinking about taking mine back and have them fix it.It's not normal but it's something that alot of Murano owners have had to deal with.

This winter, we noticed that the headlights had collected some condensation on the interior. well one very cold night we woke up to cracked headlights. both sides had cracked. we are thinking the condensation froze and cracked the headlights but the dealer will not replace them as a defect. they think that somehow a collision caused this. but anyone with half a brain can see that the cracks originate from the inside out. has anyone else had this problem?
  • morton4morton4 Member Posts: 12
I have a 2007 model and I also had the squeek noise right form the day we took it from the lot. I brought it back in a few weeks later and they ended up replacing the brack pads. Something about a known problem was spoken. I have no squeeks though. I also was not charged if that helps.

I have a 2003 Nissan Murano SL AWD. I went to the driveway to start the car and it would not start. It exhibits a clicking noise. The battery is fine because the power windows still work, the cd player works and the lights turn on. What could it be?
  • ihatemymuranoihatemymurano Member Posts: 3
I needed the a/c repaired two months ago. It was not up to par and they claimed to fix it but it still sucks and they said the A/C wasnt covered under waranty. Also they said i needed to change my fuel pump and said that that was also not covered with the extended warranty. I HATE NISSANS!! well just the 2003 MURANO!!
  • homeounerhomeouner Member Posts: 145
Homeouners reply to SECURITY+ Gold coverage. When purchasing this warrentee they sell it as same coverage as the first 36 mo. coverage. My service manager tells the sales dept. to "not misrepresent the PLAN." Its too bad the paper its written on isnt softer because thats all its good for!! you know, like the index sheets of the Sears Robuck catalog in the out house.
  • baldwin3baldwin3 Member Posts: 121
If Nissan's extended warranty does not cover the A/C and the fuel pump...and I would question this, where does one get a full wrap policy for a Murano? My search finds very few selling in California...only Nissan, and when I buy it, I will certainly take these posts with me...no A/C, no fuel pump, etc...before I buy it, and if those things are not covered, the car gets turned back after a great three year lease.
  • ljetteljette Member Posts: 19
Believe me when I tell you ,DO NOT buy extended warranty coverage that does not have Nissan name on it. I was sold a policy from my Nissan dealer from Automotive Professional,Inc.,that is worthless and I paid huge bucks for it. To top that off,I got a letter from them 2 weeks ago telling me that they had filed for bankruptcy! If you don't buy extended coverage at the time you purchase the car it seems you are throwing your money.
  • ihatemymuranoihatemymurano Member Posts: 3
Thanks for all the help. i posted previously about the car failing to start. it kinda sounds like the noise when you first start the car times 100 with an added popping noise. I hope its not too bad and i hope its covered by the extended warranty.
  • homeounerhomeouner Member Posts: 145
I would like to know the total money taken in from the Nissan companys extended warantee's sales compared to the money paid out to fix failed partsor problems on the cars covered. From the reports on this forum the profit must be very large as the coverage seems to be very minimal.
  • ljetteljette Member Posts: 19
    Dear homeouner
I'm with you,I'd like to know the stats on monies paid out compared to taken in from warrantees.I know the one I purchased is worthless.Stupid me,this is the 2nd time I've been suckered in by extended warrantees. Never again!

Below there is a Security+Plus Components Coverage Chart which tells you what is covered and what is not by plan.

    Hope this helps.

I have the copy of my Gold agreement. The inspection charge is paid by the customer!! If the car is brought in because of a suspected problem and the dealer does not find anything wrong, its always a first time for them, as well when it was when brought in during the factory warantee period, the owner is stuck W/ the inspection charge. During the factory warrantee period its covered under the new car warentee, the extended warentee is not really an extension of the new car warentee as they told me when it was sold to me. The cost is very negosiatrable.

If homeouner wants to spell it that way instead of
"homeowner", well, that is fine with me. I want this forum to be honest and true, not full of "sqeeks" (squeaks) and complaints that a dealer/service guy can answer in a few seconds. This forum should consist of CONSTANT and MAJOR problems such as the original TPS failures and the gas tank protector situation.
As far as warranty policies are concerned, Nissan's Gold is the best...and when you buy it you can NEGOTIATE that if there is a problem, the diagnostics are FREE, not on your check...this is real, trust me. Thank you, homeourner, for the advice...any warranty beyond pure Nissan is junk. You are correct. JB

I am looking at the Nissan Platinum Policy which is not visible on post #1891, but appreciated that information. Because of post #1886 I will specifically ask about A/C and fuel pump when I sign up but looking at Gold Plus coverage I believe you..fuel pump and A/C compressor are not mentioned in coverage under Cooling and Fuel.
As for Platinum, which "gives you Gold items plus coverage of almost all assemblies of your vehicle" (what is that, one wonders?), I also see A/C compressor and fuel pump are not mentioned and exhaust system, hinges, locks, brake linings are excluded..as I guess that is wear and tear. The price IS negotiable..I have in writing a "repeat customer price" of $1495 for 7 yr from in-service date or 100,000 miles on odometer (currently have 31,000 at 33 months) and 0 deductible. (Have 4 Nissans from this dealer...regular price quoted as $1,944). With a simple window motor replacement running $700, I can't imagine going without a warranty. What thinks the group?
  • homeounerhomeouner Member Posts: 145
In Feb. of '94 when I began posting I misspelled homeowner. I figured if I made it right I could be someone else!! I have the Gold warrantee pkg. W/ no deductible. I brought my MO in to the dealer to have them check out the reason for slow warm up, could be the thermostat. It is listed as covered as well as the housing and the gasket.I would have had to pay $110.00 for the testing. If it was defective and had to be replaced every thing was paid for by Nissan. If it was good I would have been charged for the test!! During the first 36 monghts the total cost would have been covered. extended warrantee is missused. The service manager said they never go bad and the weather was warming up so I left it go. Dear host, The drop down should list the correct spelling only, not let me choose which word is the correct one, thats why
I made the error in the first plsce. thats what the spell check is for.
  • pf2001pf2001 Member Posts: 110
Subaru is the same way. If they can not find the problem, you pay. I disagree paying the inspection charge. Crazy....

I have a 2003 murano, 51,000 miles. i originally bought the car with 18,000 miles on it. the car began to intermittently
"smoke" briefly on startup at around 24,000 miles. i took the vehicle to the dealer it came from but nothing could be found. over the next 20,000 miles it went to the dealer for almost every recall on the vehicle(alternator, fuel pump, etc.)the dealer didn't want to ever note it on the account that it was smoking occasionally also, said it would hurt the resale if documented. all oil changes were performed when necessary. at around 46,000 miles it began to smoke very badly... the dealer then told me it had sludge in the motor and needed a new motor.i then asked if they could flush the motor, the service dept told me they could, but it wouldn't do any good and i stood the possibility of oil sludge debris plugging the motor and causing it to lock up after the flush...so i declined. they
said to bring the oil change receipts in and they would have nissan
warranty the motor it was probably damaged from the person who owned it before me.
after gathering all the oil change receipts, the cars check engine light came on and had a loss of power with strong motor vibration and noise. stopped at a jiffy lube on the way to the dealer to have them check the oil level, they said it was fine. car still smoked badly at this point. dropped the car off. dealer called back and said they knew the problem-no oil in the motor. i said that is not correct i had it checked on the way. he said well what i mean is, is that most of the oil is trapped in the #5 cylinder due to the motor being sludged. i then left the car for nissan north america to give them the go-ahead to warranty the motor. the next month was a constant run-around from the dealer and NNA until they finally denied me 4 weeks later due to a "lack of maintenance" 3 more months passed with the vehicle at the dealer while i initiated a lawsuit. after 4 months of a rental truck $4200.00) i called the dealer last week to see if they would flush the motor. they said yes, no problem. i picked the car up last week and he told me it would run "rough" till all the oil that was trapped in the cylinders burned out. (this sounds Crazy!)there is absolutely no smoke at all now but it does run rough, at idle and mainly if your coasting between 40 and 50 mph at around 1400-1500 r.p.m. and give it gas the steering wheel and car vibrate very hard. the a/c being off seems to increase that range to a higher starting point. saw a snap-on scanner hooked up to it and it said"random misfire". also the engine load on it at idle with a/c on was around 27% percent i believe on that scanner. there seems to be a significant loss of power also. i had the tires rotated and alignment today, did not help! i then also changed the front three spark plugs today, my wife seems to think it helped a little but i cant tell. i cant get to the back three. i suddenly feel like the dealer is putting the screws to me, but cant figure out why?? oil trapped in the cylinders??? he said give it a while(but couldn't tell me how long before it would run right). for them to tell me 4 months ago it needed a new motor, to it now not smoking at all is a mystery..... the check engine light is on constant from start-up till i pass 3500 r.p.m.'s then it flashes constantly. what should i check next? any advice??

There's at least a couple of postings in this topic that mention a sludge problem with '03-'04 models. Type 'sludge' in the search box at the top of this page to see them. I don't recall that anyone had a solution beyond avoiding the problem with oil changes every 3,000 miles.

Lumbar support adjuster on my '05 Murano has stopped working. I push the switch and get nothing, zilch, nada. Anyone have this problem and what did it cost to repair?
  • enchantedironenchantediron Member Posts: 2
i think i may be past the sludge issue, the bilstein motor flush machine seems to have cleaned it out fairly well. my main issue now is this "random misfire" code on the scanner(rough to idle an d accelerate) any ideas?

I am having a similar problem with my 03 Murano. The rear hatch doesn't always open. I have to play with the power locks and hit the button 4-5 times before it catches. However it doesn't always catch and then i have to load my car from the passengers seats. This is very annoying. Do you have any ideas how i can fix this? What exactly did the dealer clean for you to get your problem to go away? Does anybody else have any ideas of how to fix this problem?
  • 03murano103murano1 Member Posts: 2
I have a 03 murano and the power windows seem to go down automatically after being opened. The only way to make them go up is first hold the window in the up position, take the key out, and open the door. After all those are done, then release the power window button and it stays up. I asked the dealer and they told me it was a window timing problem so i brought it in to get fixed for $50, but the dealer said the motar was bad and they tried charging me $550 to get it replaced and installed. I said no chance and took my car back. At that point the windows kind of worked ok again. However i still think it might go bad again. Does anyone know how to fix this issue without spending $550??

I had this problem. I have a friend who is a master tech. So he checked the service bullitens. Apparently the service bullitens indicate that the popping and cracking is from a looses rack in pinion bolt. So I took my in cost me $35.00 ...had it tightened and now i am good to go. NO more noise
