I have 07 Murano SL with only 2500 miles. The noise started coming around 1500 miles. I took in the dealership and they said something about front rotors being glazed and they resurfaced them. Noise went away for a day or so. Again it came back so I took it back. This time they said that some new bulletine came and they changed the brake pads and resurfaced the rotors again. Again same thing. I took it in today. This time they sanded rotors and brake pads and applied something called anti-squeal to the pads. Let's hope the noise goes away this time. What bothers me the most though is that everytime I take it in, they pretend that they have NEVER heard of such complaint and today I found this forum where so many have same issues.
My '04 MO has sun visor dropsie syndeom also. The new car dealer replaced it after six months. The mount is really "Mickey Mouse". The altama is much better designed. If I lower the seat I can see under it. Other peer cars seem to be better desighed in the little things
Never buy a Murano again!!! 2003 Murano SE @93k miles see below:
Problem List:
1. Left bank catalytic converter and O2 sensor going bad. 2. Drooping sun visors. 3. Excessive tire wear. 4. CD speaker channel failure. 5. Car locks itself (locked me out while running once). 6. Water pump failure. 7. Constant clicking and popping noises. 8. Sluggish performance. 9. Oil leaks near oil pan. 10. Backlash in power seats.
I work on a lot of different cars. I am meticulous about preventative maint. I have never had such list of problems in a Japanese car before. This is my last Nissan!!! :lemon:
Anyone have any advice on the catalytic converter? I have yet to replace it.
Your Murano may have the same developing problem I now have.
Mine started the same way. I am now being told that I need a new catalytic converter ($1400). I replaced the O2 sesnor first. It has not helped yet.
If you get a check engine light and error code P0420 you can bet it is an O2 sensor and or a catalytic converter. The Murano has two converters. I'll be checking this week to find a universal converter instead of the Nissan OE.
You might want to have your car scanned at Autozone for free.
I was having some transmission issues earlier last year. I don't have the AWD though. The CVT fluid must be changed every 30k miles. I bought 16 qts. and used it to flush and replace the fluid just like an oil change. It is finally working right now.
The AWD's are much more complex and problematic. This sounds like a speed sensor going bad. These are not expensive to replace. Try AAMCO instead of a dealer. After you get it fixed my advice is cut your losses and get rid of the car.
Well after 1 day, the noise started again. 3 times and they can't do a thing about it. I am very disappointed with NIssan's service. After spending good amount of money, I am not at all satisfied. May be I should have gone with Ford Edge after all
What is the deal on extended warranty. Can I buy it when my lease is up (39 month) or must I do it before the 36 month runs out? I won't be near the miles. I have an 06, bought July 06 and after nearly 18 months I have only 12,000 miles....Avg 8-10 per year.
I bought an extended warranty right before my original expired and it is useless. Paid over $1500 for it, and bought it from my Nissan dealership. The company it's from has filed bancrupcy. Be very careful.
I have an '04 Murano and the front drivers side turn signal went out. I cannot for the life of me figure out how to replace the bulb. I really don't want to have to take it to the dealer to get it fixed since we have about 3 feet of snow right now and the nearest dealer is an hour away. Anyone have any suggestions? I tried releasing it from the clips that I thought were holding the cover on, but no luck.
To post # 1969 mikesmorano where you bought 16 qt. of CVT fluid. My dealer charges $19.95/qt. Can the fluid be purchased at the popular parts stores?? I would like to know. Thanks anyone.
DO NOT substitute any other brands of CVT fluid for your Murano.
Call the dealer and tell them you work for AAMCO or some local transmission place; they should give you a quote that is about $3 cheaper per qt. Then pick it up and pay by credit card.
The dealers usually give discounts to other local shops. If you know a mechanic friend they should be able to have them pick it up for you also (cheaper).
On the MO the only brake adj. are the emergency brake a drum type brake, adjusted W/ a notched wheel as per decades ago. The disk pads all have thin metal shims that vibrate for some reason, hence the new kit for stopping the noise has new shims. In the past on most disk brake replacement pad kits would include a tube of grease to be applied to prevent squealing. I was able to obtain a shop manual CD. at a very low price W/ lots of information.
I have a 05 MO S AWD at 30K miles. It has been trouble free so far. Recently, there is a noise coming from front of the car after I turn it off. It sounds like a small motor turning to a stop like "zzzzz...". I'm guessing it's one of the pumps (AC, fuel, brake?) but not sure if I should go to the shop to have somebody check it. Did anybody else hear this kind of noise? Is it something serious?
Yeah I purchased a used murano. It is making a scratching/squealing noise that can get loud. Sometimes are worse than others. Brakes seem good and rotors check out ok. Is this a mater of replacing the pads and shims to make this annoying noise go away? Help thanks!
I have a 07 Nissan Murano SL AWD and it's got 22,000 miles on it. I noticed while cleaning that the drivers seat was broke. It moves side to side and up. I can feel it sometimes when I turn a corner. I was wondering if the drivers seat is covered with the 36,000 mile warrenty? I called to get it fixed Monday but was wondering if they'll give me a hassle or if its covered. Thanks in advance
Same thing happened to my 05 at 20,000 plus miles. They covered it 100% and gave me a loaner car for a week because they had to order a new seat. I told them I didn't want to drive my Murano with a broken drivers seat.
I've been told two conflicting time tables in terms of when I should be changing the CVT fluid on my 2005 Murano. One Nissan dealership says don't bother at 33K miles since I'm a low mileage single driver. The other dealership says they would do a partial change to see what that tells them after that's done AND to determine if in fact a total CVT transmission change is needed. Does anyone know what the frequency is for a 2005 Nissan Murano at the 32K mile mark. What is the price I'd expect to pay per quart, how many quarts does it take, and is this something a savy technically inclined homeowner could do? Thanks, Wayne
I was told by the service tech to change the transmission fluids at 60,000 miles on my '05 Murano. But his boss the service manager came out and told him that because they are sealed nothing needs to be done to the transmission until 100,000 miles.
I have a 2004 AWD Murano with 47K miles. It's had the automatic door lock problem and the transmission problem (required full replacement) and a host of little annoyances, but still like the car. Now near the end of its 50K warranty with a new, dangerous problem: turn on the engine (can be cold, on a hill or flat, doesn't matter), release the emergency brake, and the entire system freezes, locks up. Sometimes it's in Reverse and sometimes it's still in Park, but once it's frozen, there's no controlling it -- steering wheel, shifter and brakes are locked. The only thing is to turn it off to reset it. Sometimes it happens multiple times a day; sometimes once a week. It got dangerous when parked on a downward slope, trying to back out, and it started rolling forward into the car in front of it. Quickly turned off the ignition and set the emergency brake to avert an accident. Dealer is looking at it but can't replicate problem, of course. Would very much appreciate hearing anyone's experience with this or ideas about what's wrong.
Folks, this has been a great forum and I appreciate all of the input and comments. I made a decision and got the 2008 MDX with the tech and entertainment packages, so it is fully loaded.
I just wanted to take this opportunity to express my thanks to the group before I leave.
This service bulliten was issued some time ago. My breaks don't make noise all the time but they still do from time to time. I have 18,000 miles on my 07 now. hope this helps........................ Stacy
I'lll pick up where you left off... I've been checking out this forum for a few months and been contacting my local Nissan dealers for Murano $$$'s. But to be honest the more I read about 1st generation tranny problems the more I'm leaning toward Toyota/Honda products. My '00 Maxima has been decent yet ate through 5 sets of front rotors, a slipping tranny but nothing else major with 136k on the clock.
So I'm a little trigger shy of pulling it on another Nissan. I'm a gizmo nut and when you compare the Murano to better mpg CR-V/RAV 4/Rogue they've got little to offer.
I'm going to pull the trigger and a couple of weeks and need to make a decision ASAP.
Perhaps a nice incentive or low APR could sway me back to Nissan???
Had the seat problem at 22,000 miles. The seat would rock back and forth and tilt upwards. Nissan fixed the problem free and gave me a free loaner car for the day. Everything went nice and smooth so I'm happy with that. The cause states "failure of seat linkage". As far as the squeeky brakes I had the same problem for awhile with the 07 SL but it has went away on it's own. I never took it to Nissan or complained cause I knew there was'nt much they could or would do. It stopped the sqeeling at about 15,000 miles I think. It will every great now and again but it's very light. So far so good with the Murano.
I've had my 2007 Murano for three months now, and as it's heating up, I'm noticing that my air conditioner, in a word, sucks! My 2005 Accord had great a/c, it was freezing on the first setting. This Murano, though, can be on the second or third setting, all the way on cold, and I'm sweating up a storm. I'm getting worried about a California summer with this thing! Anyone have this experience? I'm taking her in for her first oil change tomorrow, and I'd just like the consensus. Thanks!
Never had any trouble with the AC and I'm very particular. I'd have it checked out by the dealer. :surprise: My only complaint is the squeeky brakes when backing up. That is one problem I've seen over and and over on this thread.
It was a hot day yesterday (90 deg F) and so I fired up the AC on my new 09 Murano SL. Even when I had it turned down to 60 deg F it still didn't feel very cool. So I too am finding a bit of dissatisfaction with my new Murano's AC temperature.
I have an 06, for 2 summers now, going on my third. I seem to remember (not a/c season here yet) it starts slow, but eventually it will freeze you! Seems like it takes a while to "warm up". Don't know why that would be, maybe because of my black leather makes it feel even warmer inside because I'm sitting on such warm seats. Remember when it's really hot out to make sure you start out using recirculated air.
I'm new to this forum so bare with me as I try to explain my issue. I have a 2007 Murano S model that is making some sort of binding type metal on metal noise. I can't seem to isolate it, but it appears to come from the rear with occassional front passenger side as I make turns on any given speed and some times at acceleration. It doesn't seem to make the noise until it's driven for a while.
I want to take it to the dealer, but would like some feedback on this issue so let me know if anyone has experienced this issue
I just got a call from the dealer stating that they know my murano is having a problem but they could not determine if it is the transfer case or the cvt transmission. Since the truck only has 11000 miles, they would like for it to get a little more wear before they can determine the issue. Hilarious!!!!!
did you ever have this issue resolved? I seem to have the same problem with my 2005 SE. I was told by the dealership that it is brake related, had my brakes serviced, but the noice is still there.
Both front door locks need replaced on my wife's '05 Murano (*not intelligent key). Less than 3 yrs old but high miles( 57k). Dealer wants $650 for the job. I want to fight Nissan on this as I don't believe this should happen on a car this age. Any thoughts, suggestions?
My 05 Murano's passenger door lock slowly went bad this past winter but I haven't taken it in yet. It wouldn't be so bad if the tailgate wasn't tied to the door look.
I have an 06 SL. love the car but it recently has started to "use" antifreeze. the car is not/does not run hot and it has been pressure tested with no results. My dealer cannot seem to find the problem and has advised me to "keep an eye on it". Has anyone else run into this issue? I only have 28k miles on it and don't want to get rid of the car but a car that "uses" antifreeze concerns me. It "used" almost the entire reservoir between oil changes. Not sure driving conditons are a factor but it may be helpful in troubleshooting. I live in the atlanta area and drive (practially) bumper to bumper 20 miles each way to work. any ideas? thanks for the help
There are probably only two ways to "use" antifreeze...one, when it enters a crack in the block and is combusted..often causing white exhaust smoke. The second, is a leak...I personally had a cracked overflow reservoir which leaked...and it was obvious...a constant little puddle on the garage floor. In this case, the level in the radiator will not decrease, just the reservoir. A radiator leak will/should also give you a little puddle overnight, especially after driving and parking, and the level in the radiator will slowly vanish. Check that concept out.
hey thanks for the info. i think it might be the block since i have no puddles. unfortunately that is what i was thinking but wasn't sure if anyone else has run into a similar problem with their murano. I guess I am confused as to why the dealer didn't find the problem. I would think a dealer could/would be able to tell me if there is a crack in the block.
I'm leasing a 2005 Murano SE; dealer said it needs new tires last time I was in for an oil change. Lease expires in August and I don't plan on keeping the car. Can I be penalized for not doing suggested maintenance? The tires look perfectly fine to me! I don't want to buy new tires for the next owner ...
After asking around: check the dipstick because any significant coolant leak into the block should get into the oil sump and make it milky. Be sure to see if the level in the Radiator goes down...if it does not, then it is the reservoir losing fluid, but strange...no puddle. My dealer replied that the Murano engine which is the bulletproof Nissan favorite RARELY has a cracked block, and then nearly always when run without coolant.

one could by extended waranty through 3rd party such as warrty direct and so on..
its not cheap for murano..or secure as nissan own warranty.
You are correct. The warranty is 8/80,000 miles.
Unfortunately I am now at 94,000 miles.
I did find an aftermarket CAT for ~$300 that will work.
Anybody else have this problem?
What did you do?
